Overall this is a great hotel for the value. Clean, well maintained, friendly staff, food was great. The only negative I would say was the service. I'd give it a 6 out of 10. The sense of urgency at the pool was almost non existent. We'd order a drink and for the time it took for the server to bring it, we had already gone to the swim up bar 4 times. No joke. Room service took 2 hours and didn't even bring what we had ordered. Service in the restaurants was much better than the pool but went with empty water glasses most of the time. I know at an all inclusive tips are normally included in the fee but we ALWAYS tip extra. Even with extra tipping, the service was still subpar at the pool. It was almost like we were bothering them when we asked for drink or food. Maybe most people don't tip and the servers know they are going to get paid anyway? I don't know but this was the first time in Mexico that we had experienced a lake of customer service. I would however go back though know what to expect. The property is very nice and the Nizuc section I would highly recommend.

Terrible beaches, loud AC BUT terrific staff and amazing spa

The beaches at our resort were absolutely disgusting, quite a disappointment, luckily the pools at Moon Palace were nice. Also, the AC in our room was so loud. I enjoyed the staff, they were all very nice and helpful. The spa a the Grand (Moon Palace) was top notch.

Great but the amenities are a joke!

Sep 13 2016
The hotel and staff was wonderful but do not be fooled or suckered into the amenities/"cash credit" at the resort. It basically adds up to the amount/total you would pay for any amenities that you might receive anywhere in the states. They raise the price to make it look like a deal but it is not! DO NOT BE A SUCKER!

What was expected!

Our experience pretty well matched our expectations. We were taking our 9 and 11 year olds so trying to decide between a large resort or smaller. We went large for more options for them. While this was probably a good choice when it came to that, it was so big that getting around it was time consuming and we ended up just saying forget going to some of the activities. The evening shows we went to were entertaining and enjoyable. We played mini golf daily and they loved the Flowrider. The food was just mediocre but that was again, what we expected for all the resorts. The two fine dining restaurants were booked the whole time we were there. The beach at Moon Palace was not nice, but since you can go to the other Palace resorts, Beach Palace was beautiful. A A few consistent problems were that the bars were way understaffed for the amount of people at the resorts. This was the case at Moon & Beach Palace. It was difficult to get service. Service at the restaurants was great! Another was that it was difficult to get our fridge restocked in our room with drinks as well. Also, while 24 hour room service is included, often times it was 2 hours plus wait time to get your order and besides the restaurants & buffets there were no quick service stations to grab something that wasn't sweet. If you are taking kids, stay at the Sunrise building. Overall though, we and our children had a good experience and enjoyed our vacation!

Golf cart- the way to go!

We stayed in the golf course villas and really enjoyed our stay. We didn't have an ocean view, but having our own golf cart opened so many opportunities for us that it was worth the trade off. Because we had our own transportation, we ate at many different restaurants with ease and went to a number of different pool areas on our trip. We are not golfers, but loved the golf course setting.

drinks were watered down. had to bring my own spirits. Jacuzzi was broke in room. No wash clothes the last 3 days. They ran out. Was refused towels for an excursion that they sponsored and it required towels. Could not eat at the restaurants that we wanted as they were booked by members. Asked to be placed in sunrise but they put us in Nizuc. Had to go out to the pool at 7 AM to get a spot near the pool. Beach was full of seaweed. The membership sales pitch was rediculous. 5 Sales people. they told us about 90 minutes. We were there 3 hours and 20 minutes. I felt like I was held hostage. Dont do it unless you want to buy into there membership which is not worth it in my opinion.

This place was recommended by friends. We were disappointed upon arrival. We specifically booked for the sunrise section of the resort only to be put in the Nizuc section. Next the sales presentation that we were promised gifts that were changed. They told us 90 minutes but the actual sales pitch was 3 hours 20 minutes and 5 different sales people. Messed up our day and stressed us out. The pool was so crowded we had to go out at 7 am to reserve a chair. It was difficult to get towels. We didn't have wash clothes for the last 3 days. Complaining at the front desk did not resolve the problem. The drinks from the were watered down. I went to the bar and asked for an additional shot in a small glass. It was nearly all water. We had to bring our own alcohol for the drinks. And we are not big drinkers. Also talked to other guests with the same issue. The room was in need of repairs as the in room jacuzzi was broke. Having said all by that, we did enjoy our stay but we felt we overpaid for that level of services and accommodations that we received.

Very, very good food.. Alcohol was good brands.. Gorgeous rooms.. Service was very good too.. Extremely clean and well kept resort.. The small touches were well thought out (especially having the room keys contained in the wrist band!!) Resort credits aren't much of a deal(the 16% tax almost makes the activities cost what they likely are worth).. Not sure I'd return but we got a good deal online, so I'm not saying I won't come back either..

Great Thanksgiving!

We have been to moon palace numerous times over the past 4 years and the Grand is becoming a favorite. The food and attentiveness of the staff was good. The high points of our trip were the heated pools and the pool bartenders. Gustavo Cruz and Victor Acuna both took great care of my family and I. The drinks they made were delicious and very consistent. We will definitely look for them when we go back in a couple months. They were fantastic. What's nice about this place is that you do get to know the staff very well that they start to recognize you. We were waiting for our son at the flowrider and one of our favorite bartenders ever, Jorge Petul, walked up and greeted us by name. Always make you feel special when they remember you and your family. What is obvious is that the enhancements to the Moon Palace resort are primarily at the Grand. Sunrise and Nizuc restaurants could use some attention as well. The quality and selection of food has gone down over the last year in those two sections.

Our destination wedding was everything we could have hoped for. Monica was our day-of coordinator and she was fantastic! She is detail oriented and made sure we had nothing to worry about the day of the wedding. As soon as we met her our minds were at ease. We got married at the chapel and it couldn't have been more beautiful The resort and location was picturesque. Our guests raved about the food and even proclaimed our cake as the best tasting they have had. Pro tip - get the horse and carriage!

Don't settle for anything but the best!

This review will be lengthy and full of praise for the many people that helped make this visit to The Moon Palace the best vacation I have ever had! So, sit back and hang on for the ride! I have stayed at this resort numerous times. Don't be fooled by the reviews complaining about this or that. If you go into it KNOWING what you can expect, there will be no possible way the stay will not exceed your expectations. Let me start by saying you need to come to grips with a couple of things. First, the beach is NOT the nicest you will ever lay eyes on. It is indeed covered in seaweed, despite their attempts to rid it of such. Second you WILL be paying 16% taxes on any resort credits you use. So, please don't book it with some expectation of anything different, then complain about it after the fact. This is how it is. Understand this before you book. Don't gripe about it after the fact! Go into this knowing this is how it is and either accept it or don't complain about it later. It infuriates me to see people repeatedly bash this resort for these reasons. Let me lay some groundwork for you. Other than an amazing vacation, I planned this trip to propose to my girlfriend (now my fiancee). I had a picture in my head of how I wanted it all to come together. So, eight months in advance I made the acquaintance of one Jose Luis Gonzalez. His title lists him as E-Concierge Manager. But, don't be fooled. Jose became not only my contact, but a true friend and guide to making our entire stay the most memorable week of my life. I threw out what I was looking for. Jose started filling in all the blanks for me. His suggestions and attention to each and every detail went above and beyond! I know for that entire eight months, I made his life a living hell with requests and questions. He took it all in stride and provided the ultimate in customer service. Upon our arrival, as we were checking in, Jose made it a point to personally greet us and welcome us to The Moon Palace. Our room was an Ambassador Suite and located in the Pina (Pineapple) building in the Sunrise Section of the resort. The check-in process was very quick and upon arriving in our amazing room, Jose introduced us to our personal Concierge for the week, Lidia Alvarez. She picked up right where Jose had left off. Answering every question and providing us with perfect service in every manner. I asked for it, she provided it. As I said at the outset, my main purpose on this trip was to propose marriage. So, when it came time for dinner there was a knock on the door. There was Lidia. She escorted us down the stairs to a horse drawn carriage. Waiting were a dozen white roses. After a few photos, my girlfriend climbed into the carriage and I proposed. Being the lucky man I am, she accepted. After a few more photos, there was a short carriage ride around the property and we were dropped off at the main lobby. We proceeded to the Sky Bar. Another great set-up waiting for us. A private table covered in roses and a bottle of champagne chilling. After the bubbly, we went to our Romantic Dinner in the Garden. We were greeted by the Maitre De, Juan Carlos. He escorted to our special private table and introduced us to our waiter, Marcos. The two of them made certain the dinner was beyond romantic. Our favorite song was played and we danced on a small bridge. Talk about knocking it out of the park...they killed it with perfection! Surf and turf was to die for. Over the course of the next week, we spent a good amount of time relaxing by the amazing pools and enjoying the activities. I want to make sure to mention the drink service provided by Rocio, Jose, Myra and Erica. They kept our glasses full at all times. Now for the food. I found it to always be above par. Those that say they it is anything less, obviously spend more on their monthly dining budget than we do. The portions were generous, of the correct temperature and quite delicious. I want to pay a special mention to the following people that made our dining experiences stand out: Bugambilias - Renulfo, Wendi and Daniel. Pier 8 - Gregorio and Pablo. Momo - Eduardo. Arecifes - Jorge and Denae. Palapa Asadero - Isai and Samuel. The service was always with a warm smile with the utmost attention to detail. My final dining thank you goes to Carlos. I beleive he is the dining manager for the Sunrise complex. At EVERY dinner, EVERY night he was there for our meal. We always had a special table with fresh cut flowers, tablecloth and rose petals. I was so impressed by him. Thank you again, Carlos. From a bar standpoint, I have to give a special shout out to Kemin in the Christmas Village. When we arrived, he said that they only had beer and wine. Well, I am a vodka drinker so I was disappointed hearing this. But, Kemin found a way to get my drink of choice and kept them coming and coming and coming! Thus, I bestowed upon him the title of "The Devil". He was awesome. The grounds, the pools, the rooms are gorgeous. In closing, I would like to thank the entire staff of The Moon Palace. You made a very special event totally amazing for both of us. We love all of you for all of your hard work. Most of all, I want to again thank Jose Luis Gonzalez. I not only think of him as an employee of The Moon Palace, I consider him a my Amigo! Rest assured, we will be back! If anyone has any questions about The Moon Palace, please do not hesitate to contact me. I am more than happy to share my experiences with you.

Special memories!!!

This was our 3rd visit as a couple to the Moon Palace and as usual I found the staff as welcoming as ever. My husband and I married here 6 years ago and this has been out 3rd trip back since and Moon Palace never fails to disappoint. The new grande is beautiful and restaurants impressive. JC steak house and Le Chateau are a must! The new spa is amazing too. We would like to give a special shout out to Juan Canto, Macedonio Sulub and Joshua Acosta for being an amazing service team in La Manglar buffet! They truly provided excellent service and Moon Palace should be honoured to have such wonderful serving staff! I also cannot forget Antonio from La Manglar (going to miss your omelettes). And Guadeloupe from ‘the pub’ you make the best Gins.....Thanks again Moon Palace for making this trip one to remember! 💞
