I would NEVER stay there again. We were told there was several restaurants and there only two they were open each day. Ice machines empty no matter when we went.

Nice hotel, close to major beaches, rain forest, San Juan, and old San Juan, easy access to highway, we rented a car outside of hotel, cheaper! Food was not old at resort, and super expensive, not even much selection on room service, pizza was even awful. Resort very clean, pool is nice, service is good, rent a car if you really want to see P.R., very relaxing, not a young crowd. They could use more entertainment, we went around Christmas time, so the island was in good spirits.

Would definitely do a different no No waiting for us at the airport only got there there was not a working refrigerator in the room was told to put ice in it, and use it like a cooler. Overpriced drinks and food with not very good service we know they didn't care because I never asked how our stay was when we checked out

We enjoyed our stay at the Gran Melia. We are a family of 4 and enjoyed the pool and the resort. The staff was friendly and accomodating. The room was clean. There were a few areas of improvement including the fact that one of our TVs did not work properly (and only one remote per room with two televisions) and the temperature of the room was often hard to regulate. I would suggest that the hotel stock the rooms with kitchens with more utensils and cooking pots but other than that, we enjoyed the resort and the island.

The staff were very friendly/helpful. Beautiful grounds and very nice rooms. Lovely pool. Food and drinks were overpriced and the $500 "credit" toward food/beverages was misleading; it was actually vouchers for things like $30 off a spa treatment or $50 toward a room upgrade.

There was not enough activities except for tennis and the swimming pools. Food at the 3 restaurants were OK and a bit over priced. We only stayed for breakfast. The pillows and bed were too soft for my husband and my taste. The time to check in was too long. Stood on line for 40 minutes to check in. Check out was better since it was later in the day. Unless you're red level, I didn't see the point of paying extra for almost same service except Red level facilities were a bit nicer. Resort is too far so had to drive to all activities outside of resort.

Terrible! Do not stay here!

We got a VIP Red Level Oceanfront suite. Our sheets had a big yellow stain, blood stains, and makeup. The housekeeper was very rude and argued with me that the sheets were fine and didn't need to be changed. I had to argue with her for about 15 mintues until she changed the sheets. Our tv didn't work, which we reported to the Red Level staff member, who did not call maintenance to fix it. Our toilet did not flush well. The shower had very low pressure because of the plumbing problems with the toilet. The Red Level has happy hour from 5pm-8pm, but by 6pm they run out of everything so if you get there late, too bad. We were supposed to have a personal butler; we never met this person in a whole week. You are not allowed to have any type of food or beverage in your room, even water, because they want you to buy from their room service. There is a refrigerator in the room but it's for their own snacks and if you touch or move anything, they will fine you. We stayed here because we wanted a Five Star Hotel. This is not Five Star quality!

Wonderful Hotel

I was very skeptical about this hotel after reading several reviews. After arriving there, this is the most beautiful hotel that I have ever stayed in. The staff is so helpful and nice, and the hotel is in a great location unlike some of the other hotels. I hope to return to Puerto Rico and will stay at this hotel.

Bed Bugs in our bed!
Mari1230,

I tried to contact the hotel several times about the bed bugs and we never heard from them! The restaurants were good however the pools were quiet. However I would not recommend because the hotel did not handle the situation correctly. Me and my mother were not sure why so many bites as we used repellant every day so we asked a doctor when we got back and he suggested they looked like bed bug bites. Never heard from Melia.

Beautiful resort

I went with my family and had a great time! We had a lot of small trips planned so we didn’t stay in the resort. However the place is beautiful! Pools and rooms are very clean. The breakfast is amazingly delicious and the staff was very friendly. We did not use the beach, we opted for the pools instead.

I recommend this hotel

The hotel was nice, only problem is checking in takes very long even though we have existing reservation. I also do not like the different breakfast place for different customers. Since everyone paid the same, there should not be restrictions on who can go to which restaurant for breakfast.

Big Pool of Lack of Services to accommodate
Chris P,
Wed Dec 06 11:19:27 EST 2017
This is a beautiful place and the online pics will put a smile on your face. . big pool but it lacks alot of services. I stayed in the red level suite but it was not worth it. Food and contacting the front desk for services is a major issue. No call back from no one. I mean management knows that there is an issue but has focused on customer volume. If you are traveling with small children this may not be the best hotel unless you would like to wait and walk far for everything. If you are with children make sure you get a room closest to the pool because this place is big and half the time you will be walking far to your room. (don't forget anything in your room) The trolleys they have wont stop for you because they are after new incoming guests. If you are single with friends and hiking this may work because is close to the rainforest and other restaurants 10 minutes away. But do not expect any rapid service to fulfill your request. Beware of offered hotel credits: The hotel credits they offer over the phone cannot be used in just one place they are broken down by dates and restaurants. This means that they wnt you to spend more in order for the credits to kick in. If you do not use them you lose them. I never got to use mines and it's a hassle to talk to anyone to help you. I hope they change this practice. Do not be fooled the restaurants in this place are expensive and it looks like managements knows they have short handed staff. I paid for the Red lounge suite & services but that system they have in place does not work. You won't feel any special or better and your off with a regular room. I contacted Ruben the hotel manager at the time of my stay and I am reasonable but he never returned my call after many attempts by VM and his staff. The price is what get's you in but do not expect anything else from this place.

This is a 5 star hotel operating at a 2 star level
Miss M,

This is a five star hotel operating at a 2 star level. The grounds at this property are amazing, as soon as you enter the compound you can tell it is well maintained, from the beach area, pools, restaurants, there’s even a coy pond, just beautiful. However, the inefficiencies with the staff, the check in process (which took over an hour and a half), the rooms which have a serious damp and possible mold situation, this place needs a major overhaul with management. This is a great place to visit and have dinner, but I would NOT suggest that you stay here. I took my mom here to celebrate her 60th birthday and I really regret the decision.
