The service and the food were excellent but there was a lack of entertainment. there should be some water sports and the beach is not set up for swimming or diving. There is a lack of aquatic activities.

Awesome property, they only need an ATM on site to avoid extra cost for clients having to leave the property and paying for a costly taxi ride. The pools are great with friendly and funny service at the swim-up bar.

A Weekend Refresher

My husband and I spent 4 days over a long weekend to just escape the hustle of Miami. We loved visiting off-season when the resort isn't as full . The staff was extremely friendly and attentive. The restaurants had something for everyone . I am a stickler for clean bathrooms, more attention needs to be paid to the shower stalls. Tiles should be spotless and white, my room had mold in grout . Other than that, I would definitely recommend and return.

We arrived and were greeted by the staff and were served their welcome drink which was really good. I continued to order it throughout the trip just with additional rum. The room was as seen on the web and having the room key wristband made it easy to get in the room without having to search for a key. The in-room mini bar stayed stocked! We had a great time with the activities such as the canoes, kayaks, Glass Bottom Boat and Chukka Catamaran Party Boat to Dunn River Falls (best way to travel to Dunn River). Security was always present so we felt really safe. The late night room service wasn't the best but it's great to have the option. The staff was friendly and always willing to help. I would definitely revisit this resort!

First Trip to Jamaica

We visited Jamaica in May on a five-day trip to the Meliá Braco Village for a friend’s destination wedding. Prior to the trip, we were able to secure complimentary transportation to/from the Montego Bay airport by contacting the hotel, as we booked through Meliá directly. Locating the desk in the airport and getting set up for our ride to the hotel was very easy and reasonably efficient. Upon arrival, we checked in and received the welcome drink and cold towel. We arrived at the hotel around 1:30pm and were told our room would be ready at 3pm, was no problem. Unfortunately, our room wasn’t ready until well after 4:30pm and everyone else in our (large) group, including those who checked in well after us, had access to their rooms much earlier. Incidentally, though we were the first to check in, we were the only couple that didn’t receive a room a) on the closer end of the resort to the pool, restaurants, etc. and b) with at least partial ocean views, though everybody booked the same “garden view.” The resort was largely empty as it was off-season, so not sure what the reason was for the long delay. It’s also worth noting that we did not choose to book the “Level” side of the resort for an additional charge, and from what we heard the service was much better in the upgrade area. The rooms at Braco Village are very nice—much nicer than some other island resorts I’ve visited, which tend to be clean but very basic. Our second floor room had vaulted ceilings and a nice lanai, where we enjoyed our morning coffee. The downside was that we were placed in building 5, which is quite far down from the pool area/town square, but we don’t mind walking so that was fine. We literally would not pass one person on the path down to the building because of how quiet the resort was. The wifi at the resort worked excellent in and around the check-in area and "village square" and also in the rooms. It went in and out a bit down by the beach, but if you're an iPhone user and can get away with only iMessaging and Facetime, I wouldn't even bother adding an international plan to your cell service before you go. The pool area is very nice, however the pool was closed for more than one full day during our stay due to a mistake in which water supply was used to fill it. Luckily the Caribbean Sea was extremely warm so we cooled down out on the beach instead, but it was a shame we couldn’t use the swim-up portion of the bar on one of the sunniest days of our trip. The beach is pretty much in line with what we were expecting based on other reviews—it’s not the white sand and turquoise water typical of the islands. The sand is very coarse and the water is rocky after about the first 5-10’ off the shore, which lends itself to the water appearing dark, without that blue hue. Be sure to pack water shoes if you want to venture out at all and watch out for sea urchins. In terms of dining, 876 Prime is by far the best restaurant on the property. There is an upcharge for certain cuts of steak if you are not a Level guest. The service is excellent and it is a bit more upscale, so be sure to take a look at the dress code beforehand. Nikkei, the hibachi restaurant, was fun and a little rowdy (we had two full tables of family and friends with us) but a departure from your typical hibachi back in the US. Still fun and has decent food if you’ve got a larger group. It’s worth noting that the food served the night of the wedding was probably the best meal we had all trip. We missed out on Rasta Pasta but others from our group reported it as delicious. There are only two bars at any given time to choose from (unless you are a level guest, then there are two additional bars—at the pool and the “lounge”) which are the Wet bar (accessible from both in the pool and out) and Jigger Bar. When Shakers (the club) opens, Jigger Bar closes. All the drinks were delicious and definitely packed more of a punch than we’ve experienced at other all-inclusives. They aren’t pouring them light, that’s for sure. If you’re a beer drinker, your only choices are Red Strip, Red Stripe Light, and some of the in-room mini bars were said to be stocked with Heineken (ours was not). Overall, we had a great trip. There weren’t any major issues and the weather cooperated for the most part. We traveled during rainy season, so there were a few sprinkles every day and definitely periods of pretty dark clouds, but it was super warm and it didn’t affect our experience much. Don’t panic if you see rain all day, every day on the weather forecast because that’s what was showing for the duration of our stay and it didn’t turn out to be the case. If you’re looking for the true Jamaican experience, I wouldn’t necessarily recommend the Meliá Braco Village. The beach and water don’t give you the “wow” most people are looking for in the islands. The staff is very professional and courteous, but I wouldn’t say we felt the true, warm island hospitality I’ve heard many travelers rave about from Jamaica.
