Dissappointing Anniversary Vacation

We were disappointed with our experience at this Melia resort. Maintenance never did repair the bathroom hot water issue that I addressed. The on site steak house that was touted as fantastic was just mediocre at best. Tours and taxi fares were very expensive and sometimes unavailable. We have stayed at other Melia properties in the past but would not recommend or return to this location.

Not perfect, but pretty close.....

My new wife and I spent 12 days at the Level. We were joined by 6 friends and family for the first week of our stay. Everyone had an amazing time. The food was great regardless of where we ate. The entertainment was decent (except for the steel band, they were fantastic!!). Most of the staff were very accommodating and friendly. There were several short power outages and checking in still takes a bit too long. Other than that, things were wonderful. Of special note, the following staff members went above and beyond: First and foremost, my man Simon - concierge at the Level - just a great person!! Sanita and all the ladies at the Level check-in Juliet - concierge at the Level took great care of us all Onar and Akeem Chef Kerry Ann - thanks for the great meals Trecell and Erica at the Marketplace Nerene at the Level pool bar Asani The massage staff & the Food and Beverage Manager!! This was our 3rd visit to Braco Village in just over 27mths and we will keep returning as they continue to evolve.

Great little visit

My son and I came for a long weekend stay - four nights - and Melia exceeded our expectations. Check in was smooth and pleasant, Richardo was a rock star in helping us to our room, and he remembered our names throughout our stay and said hi whenever he saw us, making us feel very welcome and at home. We mostly ate at the buffet, as it was enormous and provided many choices for each meal. It was open every morning at breakfast, lunch, and some evenings while we were there. Rasta Pasta, the Italian restaurant, was also good. They mark gluten free dessert items and list ingredients for most other items, which was helpful. The beach here was beautiful and the grounds crew are working hard all day long to keep the beach clear of seaweed and sea trash. There are a few jettys built along the beach with walkways to tidal pools or just rock walls where you can feel the waves crash. Kayaking, paddle boats, and a little sailboat catamaran are also on site, and the watersports crew does a great job helping guests enjoy themselves. Melia Braco is smaller than other all-inclusives on Jamaica, which we liked. The place was at or near capacity during our visit, and it never felt crowded or too busy. They do a great job of providing enough amenities for everyone. We probably had the same room as a previous commenter who mentioned that they didn't have hot water in the shower in building 12. We only had hot water for one shower during our stay. The other showers ranged from cool to lukewarm. Not a dealbreaker for us - it was worth it to us to stay on the quieter end of the property. Wifi was missing in our room most of our stay, but they said they were working on it and the last day of our visit we did have wifi. It was only a short walk to the front desk to get wifi when we needed it otherwise. But we did not come to Jamaica to be on our phones! We did book an excursion with Dacia at the concierge desk. She was extremely knowledgeable and helpful. The excursion went flawlessly. Be sure to bring your water shoes if you want to go to Dunn's River Falls...although the cheap ones we bought roadside on the way there worked fine too. Overall, this visit was nearly perfect. We would love to return to Melia Braco in the future and try out the Level side of the resort, a similar but upscale and private experience with an extra pool, exclusive dining and lounge options, and spacious beach just for Level guests. The Level has 52 rooms and the regular side of the resort has 180 rooms.

Nice property.

Beautiful property. Everyone that I had an encounter with as far as the staff, was very pleasant. The food was pretty good. We had an issue with our bathroom, every time we flushed or took a shower this strong odor of rotten eggs would come from the bathroom. That was really the only issue we had which could have been resolved by changing rooms. This property is very far from the airport. We didn't have the free shuttle service because we weren't on the Level Side, so most companies were charging $140 and up for roundtrip transportation from the airport to the resort. We wanted to go to Margaritaville, the taxi cost to the one in Ocho Rios was $180 roundtrip and to the one in Montego Bay was $200. So as beautiful as it was, I probably wouldn't stay here again because it was just too far away from everything.

I’m generous giving it a 3

I’ll give u the good points first: small complex, landscaping, buildings and beach all look great. The employees are all very friendly and there is security everywhere. No crime problems at this complex. The food was ok and if your just looking for a place to relax, sit on the beach and get out of the cold, this place is fine. Now for the bad points: the rooms are big, clean and the beds are comfortable. Great balcony with a view of the beach. There’s a roof over the balcony and at first you think how nice, but I was wrong. Every day I would find black pellets on the floor and on the chairs on the balcony. Also there were new wet stains on the chairs and floor everyday. It took me two days to figure out it was bat crap and piss. At dusk u can see hundreds of bats flying and several guests finally saw the bats going into the roof of the balcony. It takes a lot to gross me out but this was bad and I couldn’t sit on the balcony any longer. I confirmed what I found with many guest, but the staff said they didn’t know what it was. Now for the real complaint. I have stayed at Melia in Punta Cana 2X and I’m comparing this place to that. Punta Cana approx 10 waiters or more on the beach everyday, Melia Braco at most 3 most times 1. I thought the first 2 days the alcohol seemed weak and then I spoke with other guest, they’re watering it down. It smells like rum and taste like rum but no alcohol reaction. Every guest I talked to said the same thing. In Punta Cana u need to take it slow because it’s powerful. Everyday they ran out of. Beer, wine and hard alcohol. How do u run out of rum in Jamaica. Many days the only bar open was the beach bar. Everyday some of the restaurants were closed and your eating selection were very limited. In Punta Cana nothing was every closed, many bars and restaurants were always open. I won’t be going back to Melia Braco but I will be going back to Melia in Punta Cana.
