Just got back from a 7 day stay (Sept16th - 22nd) and couldn't be more pleased that we had picked this resort... Based on reviews we were expecting a bit of a tired resort with a hard sell vacation club spiel... We did find the young blonde gal fairly aggressive but we remained firm that we weren't interested... We were left alone after that .. We were told by a staff member the resort is about 34 years old ... That considerd we felt it has been kept up pretty well ... We upgraded to an ocean front room and it was worth every penny !!! Stunning views ... Being open the hallways do carry noise but nothing that kept us awake... Reno's were being done to the Club building so we didnt get to see that but it was set back from the beach... would not have wanted to stay in based on that fact ... Reviews mentioned the be able to smoke in alot of areas was off putting ... We need not have worried .. Vegas is way worse !! The buffet and snackbar were average but the A la Carte restaurants were very good ... We didnt see a problem with only 2 being open on a rotation each night ... Many reviews complained about having to make reservations ?? At Marival you can make your reservations for the whole week on your arrival and not have to worry for the rest of your stay .. The staff are exceptionally well trained and the customer service they provide is stellar !!! In Canada we strive for good customer service but we dont hold a candle to the staff here !!! That alone will see us back here ... If you do find yourselves at this resort make sure to look out for the following people... for they will take EXTRA SPECIAL care of you and yours ... Cesar Marcos Enrique Esmeralda & Laura from Las Palamos Mexican ... Sarah from reception desk... Eduardo Carlos & Roberto from La Pergola breakfast ... Rene from La Pergola dinner... Josefina from the back lobby & martini bar ... Dalia & Hugo from the front lobby bar ... These folks are super hard working and deserve being tipped well ... 😎

More kids than adults. Bad food, hotel will nickel and dime you.

If you are looking for a relaxing vacation, this is not the place for you unless you haul your kids here, love hundreds of ill-mannered and screaming kids. But let me start with the check-in and go from there. We arrived and check-in was fairly easy and then we were instantly hit with timeshare people before we could even get into our room. This is unacceptable and made us both extremely angry since they were unrelenting. "Join our club," blah, blah, blah. No, just get us to the room so we can change and get in the pool. We were finally taken to a very musty, beat up, shabby room which was unacceptable. Our bellman escorted us back to the front desk where they tried to weasel us for an upgrade. I wasn't falling for that and declined, asking for a different room. Taken back up and this one was still musty, still shabby, but better than the first. We accepted it, changed, and hit the pool to cool off. Kids everywhere! Screaming and running kids. We went up to the bar and had quite a wait because of you guessed it, kids swarming. Found out from another guest that they have an adult pool. We headed over there. Kids! Mom and Dad allowed their kids in the adult pool. We are not only annoyed now, we're angry. Decided to call it an afternoon and go to the bar, have a drink, then head to our room and clean up and get ready for dinner. The bars are a joke unless you like cheap liquor that is weak. There is no top shelf alcohol even if you were to pay extra. So now let's tell you about the room. Dark and stinks. The mini fridge is stocked with a few sodas, a couple of beers, and a couple of bottles of water....but wait, it is dead and everything in it is warm. No biggie, we can get it fixed or a different one. Well after 2 days, that didn't happen. My wife went to iron her dress and there isn't an iron or board in the room. She wore something else. While she was getting ready, I pulled out my tablet and no WiFi. No, you have to pay extra for that or just use it in the lobby. Had I known this beforehand, I would never have booked this place because being all inclusive and charging for WiFi is an excellent indication of what's in store. And it was a great indication. On to dinner.... Down we go and attempt to get into several of the specialty restaurants and were turned away. We had to eat the buffet. Kids everywhere and turning the place upside down, slopping stuff around, and it wasn't being cleaned up. Crying kids. My god, this was hell. Seriously hell. Was the food good? No, it was really poor quality, not hot, and reminded us of school cafeteria food. Entertainment that night was geared towards, you guessed it, kids. Off to our room and turned on the TV to get 2 English channels. Get up the next morning and I must say, breakfast at the buffet was edible but the yelling kids running around was a distraction. Then off to the adult pool with again, kids. I caught an activities guy and asked him about kids in the adult area. He said he'd call someone. Nothing happened. We left and went into Bucerias to check it out. When we returned, our bed was made and we were going to take a nap. There was sand in the bed from the previous day and we had even left a $5 tip. So much for that. By this time, we were not happy. Just repeat the above for another day and then I went to our vacation rep and complained asking to be moved to another property. They talked with staff at the hotel and they recommended we go to their sister property. So off we go to look at it and it isn't even on the beach! But wait, there's more. It costs more than twice as much and they didn't even attempt to give us a deal. Thanks to our on-site vacation rep, we were moved to the Hard Rock for around $60 more per night. A world of difference. A great difference, no complaints. So fellow travelers, if you want a relaxing vacation, this is not the place for you. If you want to have a drink at one of the bars, you may be excluded because you're not a member of their club. The bars also only have cheap liquor, no name brands. And it's watered down. You have to pay for room service. There is no pool service for food or drink. If you want to get in the other restaurants, don't count on it. If you love a ratio of about 3 kids to 1 adult, you might like this place. In all honesty, we hated it. What really puzzles me the most are the 4 and 5 star reviews. Haven't these people ever been anywhere else? Do not, and I repeat, do not stay here unless you are a glutton for punishment or you like really bad food, bad service, shabby rooms, and you love obnoxiously loud and unmanaged children. Next time I'll use a travel agent like I should have this time but I depended upon the reviews on here and didn't read them, just looked at the overall star review. What a stupid mistake I made. I should also mention that there were kids at the Hard Rock, but not ill-behaved, not the majority, and not loud. They were older and pleasant.

Animation Team 100% (Everything else was awesome too!)

This is the very first family all-inclusive resort trip we've taken, that being said, we've traveled a TON. And now we're looking to add a trip like this to our scheme annually after this vacation and that is 100% because of how well the kids club and the animation team kept everyone entertained. Kids Club The first day we arrived we were greeted at the kids club by Estefania and Leslie. Both wonderful women who ran us through the day's schedule. We did think it was a bit of a bust because the club was so small and my meager adult brain didn't really understand what would go on in this small but well air-conditioned room. Little did I know that was really just the base station that they worked from, met up and adventured from. Soon we met Leo, Adriana, Ricardo, Reuben and the rest of the Animation team that supported the kids club in various ways. All absolutely lovely people that were so very engaging and cared that our kids (and us) were having a great time. Animation Team & Shows The shows were great, we attended 6/7 nights and the only reason we didn't attend the 7th night was cause the kids were just wrecked tired....... SEXY Brian was so great, charismatic, funny, and great at getting our kids involved at the pool in various activities like movie trivia as well as getting my wife on stage for one of the shows. My daughter has a new long-lost older sister now named Karaly is so lovely and great with the kids. An incredible trip that without the great people named here and rest of the team that I've not named here would not have been the same. Hope to meet each one of them again in the future. Restaurants We made reservations at 3 of the restaurants, The Mexican Restaurant, The Italian restaurant, and the Mediteranian restaurant. All the food was fabulous! The service was very quick and they were mindful of the kids being in the sun all day and then once they hit the AC they tend to get tired. I would have loved to lounge a bit longer and take it slower but the servers almost had a sixth sense of the kids attention spans. They made sure the kids food was out quickly, offered up small appetizers right off the bat to keep everyone distracted. Alan was so lovely at the Mediteranian restaurant on our last night. He was very attentive and accomodating, my wife didn't like one of the items she ordered, it just wasn't her taste. Alan wisked it away no questions asked and replaced it with something else. Thank you so much! Many days we ate at the Casa Bella at some point we were looked after by Esther most days. She made sure our kids had drinks, ketchup and all the things. La Bamba right beside the kids & activity pool became a hangout for my wife and I while the kids were at the kids club. If we weren't at the beach or sunning it up at the pool we were sitting in La Bamba getting looked after by Gerardo & Ramon. Ramon is the quiet smiley type that worked well with Gerardo. Gerardo kept a hugely wide assortment of "specialty" drinks for both my wife and I. Hands down the best hand made drinks in the whole place (for us). Gerardo is funny, entertaining and kept us well hydrated. Thank you so much Gerardo! Room Our room was very large (like 790 sq ft large...) we were very happy with our choice for the 4 of us. More than enough room to stretch out and not be tripping over eachother. The balcony was quite large as well, a great area to stretch out and enjoy during the one evening of rain we had....... Adriana looked after our one bedroom suite so well. Turn down service every night, quickly tidied each day. She was in and out of our room so quick and so efficient that we really only ran into her on our second and our last day. Thank you so much Adirana (Gomez). Adriana asked how we liked the room after our first night, because we had the 1 bedroom suite with 2 double beds in the room and pull out couch she organized a cot for my son in the large bedroom and setup the couch mattress in the room for my daugther (it's how the kids wanted it). When we returned the second night the beds were all exactly as expected and everyone was perfect.

You aren't going to love everything, but overall very very good

I haven't been to Mexico in a few years so my 'Mexico marketing' senses weren't as sharp as they should have been once we stepped off the plane. The Puerto Vallarta airport has had a ton of upgrades since I was last there. A massive resort project called Vivanta (sp?) has obviously paid a ton of money because their sales reps are right in the airport to "help" you find your transport to your hotel. I was legitimately curious about this place so before we knew it we had signed up for a timeshare sales pitch. In fairness, 'Oscar' was very nice and offered us some great activities as perks for going and, as I said, I was curious to see the resort. When we got to the Marival, a nice young man gave us the lowdown on the resort and where everything was. He also started pushing for us to do a timeshare sales pitch with them. Since we had already signed up for one with Vivanta, we couldn't do one with them. We were asked if the "people at the airport got to us". So the beginning was a little awkward, we were made to feel guilty because we'd decided to do a timeshare that wasn't the Marival's. Sorry, just had to get the preamble to explain that it is best to be on your guard when you first arrive. Our room was very spacious with a nice deck and a large king-sized bed. As with most beds in Mexico, it was definitely firm but not uncomfortable. There were amble closets. Big shower with good water pressure. Overall, the room was very good. The resort itself was fantastic. It was very clean and well maintained. The lobby was grand and open. The pool areas were very nice. The grounds were well maintained and relatively simple without being overdone. There weren't a bunch of fancy & expensive fountains and gardens that look nice but really don't add much to the experience. As with any resort, there were towels on the loungers when nobody was there yet. We spent our time on the beach and we were always able to find some loungers. They had many umbrellas on the beach which helped with the sun. There was occasionally bar service on the beach but it was hit or miss day to day. The people selling their wares on the beach were licensed so they came by at regular intervals but they were overall kind and respectful if you just said, "no gracias". Now, what is always the big issue,... the food. We traveled in July so the clientele was mostly Mexicans. The food seemed to reflect that as there were many dishes that I was unfamiliar with or just weren't to my North American tastes. Having said that, there was always enough to eat and we could always find plenty to overfill our bellies. The buffet had a different theme every night so the menu was always changing. The a la carte restaurants were excellent, especially the Mexican and Italian ones. They brought out an appetizer snack of fresh chips and guac at the Mexican restaurant and I could have just eaten that as my meal; so good. The fresh fruit was fabulous. There was a pizza/hamburger stand/snack bar that was a great place to have a bite out of the sun to have some watermelon or papaya and some chips and guacamole. They definitely had enough choices that you could find some food that would suit you. We didn't take in any of the shows or go to the disco, but the latter was very smartly located well away from the rooms. We did borrow the cruiser bikes that were on offer which were great. There is a great bike path that goes pretty much the length of Nuevo Vallarta. I played a little volleyball and my wife did a few water aerobic classes. Mostly, it was just beach and swimming in the ocean which was ridiculously warm. To sum up: there are always a few little things that aren't going to be to our liking, but overall we would definitely go again and we would recommend anyone to go as well.

Amazing!!!

We had the most amazing time at Marival's Hotel , the staff was very friendly and helpful, the food was amazing and there were several options to choose from, the hotel was very clean and there was plenty of things to do, we never got bored. My special thanks to Reggie, he recommended this hotel to us and he nailed it! It was the first time we took our 2 years boy on holidays and he was amazed!!!! We will definitely come back again and we recommend this hotel 100 %. No complaints at all, it exceed our expectations
