Vacation and Relaxation

This resort was absolutely phenomenal. The beach club access was my favorite part and they treated me like absolute royalty. Having been a guest at the Residences and using the Beach Club at this Resort... was super fantastic! They have all the freshest food and the best chefs. Wait-staff is so friendly and attentive and they truly anticipate my needs. The sunsets are to die for and the shows, entertainment and leisure activities are perfect for a safe way to vacation in luxury. The beach vendors were cool because I got a severely discounted massage at the beach there! My favorite part of my overall experience was the work and effort from a Resturant manager by the name of Leo. My flight was delayed and had to stay an extra day, while my other part of my party had left.... he was so gracious to recognize that, go above and beyond to make me feel welcomed, attended to and like I was at a home away from home. He was the epitome of service, and that extra touch that people seek when traveling abroad. I was extremely grateful that Leo was there to make the entire experience for me the most stellar and a very enjoyable one from start to finish! Every detail was perfect in my memory and I will definitely go back!! I have recently recommended this place again. And now at least 8 of my friends are going there this week because of it! Can't wait to hear stories and see the sights and get treated like royalty like I did, while I was there! Thanks Leo! Thanks Marival Resort! More>

We visited this resort with three generations, staying in a two bedroom suite. The facilities were reasonably maintained and at least half of the staff were friendly. Interestingly, we were often chastised for not following some unposted rule and it was apparent that they did not care much for USA citizens. The bartenders would actively ignore us. The mini golf course was never open and the children's playground was a place we were discouraged to use. The all-inclusive was rather deceptive since they would not provide alcohol to your suite, had hours where there was no food available, and then had buffets for "members only" that were not clearly identified (until I was asked to leave and had the buffet food taken from me). The reservation required restaurants were great and the staff were the most helpful there. We used the resort photographer and had some great pictures taken on the beach. The best piece was the suite and its cleanliness, while the worst was a general feeling of "being watched" as the Americans were breaking rules (like sitting on the swing set, going down the water slide beside a two year old rather than behind him, etc). Being respectful people and not "wild and crazy", it was disturbing to feel that we got in trouble for something every day. That being said, we won't return to this resort. More>

Wonderful experience. The beach was fantastic. If you are looking for a quiet and restful vacation, Marival Resorts and Suites is for you. Also experienced the neighboring resort which is by the beach and had a wonderful, relaxing time. Ask for Cesar. He was so attentive and provided excellent service while you lounge in a cabana bed. Going back!!!! More>

Another great Vacation thanks to Jackie at the beach Club, Alonso and Berenice (reception). We feel like home when we are there, very friendly and engaging staff. Luigi and Etzequiel are running great restaurants at Palomas and Amalfi. Fernando is doing a great job with the shows and his staff keeps guest busy and enjoying their vacations. Can't wait to comeback. More>

After reading the reviews before we left for or trip, it was apparent that the number one complaint was over aggressive and rude time share people, so I actually emailed the resort ahead of time and emphasized quite heavily that I was in no way interested and did not want my relaxation ruined by aggressive staff members - and when we got there, they stayed away! Rooms were nice, we had a two bedroom suite that consisted of the master suite and washroom upstairs and a second bedroom and washroom along with the living room and kitchen downstairs. Can't remember our block or room number but we were immediately across from the adults only pool - which was great. Rooms were relatively quiet, especially being on the second floor. Every morning while getting ready in our bathroom we heard what we thought was the maid next door singing, turns out it was the music from the buffet!! I agree with previous reviews that the beds are HOT and firm, and I like a firm mattress, but these are quite firm. They're hot due to the plastic sheet underneath; we finally took ours off on the second last night and it made a huge difference! Food was mediocre in my opinion, have certainly had better at other resorts. The buffet was basically the same day after day, with some small changes. The dinner buffets were themed. Reservations for restaurants was nightmarish - make them ahead of time!!! As soon as everyone checks in, they race over to make their dinner reservations. The line up was long and some people are thoughtless to those waiting behind them. The restaurants have specific days and hours that they're open, so you might not get the place you want, and if you're at the end of that long line, your choices continue to diminish! We only ended up getting two out of our allotted three reservations. La Pergola was upscale and service was superb but my husband ordered steak and it was inedible. The manager stopped by our table to chat and when my husband sheepishly mentioned the gristle in the steak, the managed agreed that it was a bad cut and apologized, but did not bring anything extra. The cinnamon ice cream here was the best ice cream I've ever had! Next was Amalfi. Food was better, service was the worst. Our server was soooo much nicer to the Mexican guests seated next to us; it really was a miserable dinner. The beach is fantastic. Most days were too rough to take out boogie boards - which actually were provided (about the only thing), but there was one day when our girls were able to take them out. Nice sandy beach, lots of room, not too rocky at all. We hung out exclusively at the adult only pool - which is just straight down from the children's pool :-/ It wasn't too bad though. The main pool, where our girls hung out was always busy and full of action. The girls, being 12 respectively, found the kids club to be boring and the so called teen club was a games room, which didn't interest them either. They spent their time divided between the pool and the beach. There is an awesome bike path and bike rentals at the property. Brakes are not the best on these bikes, test a few before you pick one! Booze is not allowed before 11 am, which is a good thing I guess as some people have no limits, but I absolutely missed having Bailey's in my coffee, C'mon, I'm on holidays!! ;) We quickly found our way around this buy stocking up the night before and putting it in our fridge for the next morning! Personally was not interested in the nightly entertainment. Did check it out on two separate occasions but was not thrilled either time. I found it very loud. Overall, I found this resort to be lacking general amenities and many of the little extras found at other resorts. We also tried to book a bike tour and checked a few times to ensure the correct information, but it was the wrong info. Bike tour not offered on the day we were told, so we went ourselves. Service around the adult pool was great and friendly too. Oh, and the little pizza shack close to the adult pool is really good and has drink 'specials' every day. Over heard a local saying that the vendors on the beach are actually licensed and wear their licenses so you can see them - they are apparently a better deal than buying at the night market within the resort or even going into town - as far as silver goes anyways.
