Nice stay at Marival
WILLIAM W.
Aug 20 2017
Rooms are great, newly updated, cold, nice beds and pillows. Ala carte restaurants were really good, breakfast in restaurant was good, main pool was way too packed and way too many kids. We finally found the adult only pool because we got tired of kids jumping in where we were standing. The pool bars were busy, I wish they had better beer selections. Beach was nice, all staff was great! Overall, it was a nice place to stay.

Alcohol drinks watered down

The drinks at all locations in the resort were watered down. And the bottles did not contain the brand that was on the bottle. I asked for a shot of rum to confirm and after asking his manager they gave me a shot from behind the bar. Even that was not Bacardi. My wife can only Handel 1 real drink. She was drinking over 7 drinks and never felt it. This was the only issue we had with the vacation.

This is the 4th time I have gone to Mexico. The 1st 2 times I went to Cancun and we used Apple Vacations. I was highly impressed. The 3rd time I went to Cabo San Lucas with family and did not make the travel/hotel arrangements and was not impressed. When I booked this trip I knew I wanted to use Apple Vacations. I was disappointed that it was rated a 5 star hotel. Not sure if I will use Apple Vacations again.

This resort is great for kids and family , the rooms are very nice and clean . Food was ok the breakfast was the best , pizza wa great but really you don't want to eat pizza everyday, buffet was not good at all . The best part is the facility very clean , great kids pool . I will love to go back but I do suggest they work on the buffet to be better .

we did not like the persistence of the RCI person we were handled over to when we checked in. we did not know they were an RCI or we would have asked to skip them. It would be great if the hotel could have a non smoking section on the beach. people were close to us & we constantly had smoke in our direction & did not want to move because we wanted the shade. very thankful they kept Miguel for the yoga classes.

Our room kept falling apart, toilet paper holder fell off the wall, door below the sink fell off and landed on my foot and my moms room the sink faucet kept falling out of the wall. Also did not like that you didn't have much privacy with the glass doors for our toilet area. I also wished there was beers stocked in our refrigerator every day like other places I have stayed at in Mexico.

I could write a long detailed review of The Marival, but in short it is a mixed bag. There's a lot of other things that your survey does not cover that might drag their rating down a bit. It's a very nice place, but it has its problems.

There was only one of the service restaurants out of three open at dinner and breakfast only the buffet was pen for lunch. The elevators broke a couple of times which greatly affected me because I am somewhat disabled. I was unable to go to walk on the beach because they didn't have rails on the stairs and no ramps. Because they only had one restaurant open they had told us there were no reservations available I had to ask for a manager to get seating and both nights there had been plenty of tables available. The handicap facilities were poor, they think all handicap people are only in wheelchairs I use a walker the toilets were all too low

Our hotel room was the first room off the lobby! This has got to be the worst room in the hotel! With the open concept to the lobby all noise traveled; therefore, I was woken each day before 6:00am to voices, laughter from either the staff or guests. Overall I found the hotel staff to be rather unfriendly, not the "service" I had expected. The bartenders at the pool (family) were actually rude; most often did not even speak to you when you ordered a drink. The animation team at the hotel were fabulous and extremely friendly. They provided the daily entertainment as well as the shows at night; they were great! Many of the hotel staff spoke little to no english which surprised me; I ordered egg whites for breakfast and the Omelette chef had no idea what I was asking. Overall, pleasant visit due to the animation team and the friendly guests we met. Hotel staff were just not friendly and didn't seem to have service as a priority.

HIGH PRESSURE START TO A GREAT RESORT
Warmka2, Iron Ridge, Wisconsin
Wed Jan 17 11:58:02 EST 2018
This was an awesome resort and we had a great time once we got past the high pressure sales pitch in order to get our room! I think the resort would be better served to let the place sell itself. After a long day, we were happy to be there and did not appreciate the tactics used to try to get us to commit to a "breakfast" that we know would be a timeshare sales pitch. Very off putting. From check in time til the very end, we had a blast! The food was great, grounds were immaculate and the staff was outstanding. No complaints. Would love to give a thank you and shout out to Baldo, our favorite bartender who gave us outstanding service and to the entertainment team, especially Rueben! These two made our vacation great! I would give the resort a higher mark if it had not been for the rocky start and high pressure. Give it a rest and let your resort speak for itself.

I really had a hard time rating this resort. I want to be fair so I have narrowed it between average and poor. I have experienced many types of accommodations and because I was going to Mexico I kept my expectations low. That was a good thing because otherwise I would have been more disappointed than I was. The beach was amazing, the pools were very nice, the people were friendly, the service was good, the hotel foyers and open areas were nice. This is where things change - the food quality and taste was poor and exactly the same every day and in every restaurant. Breakfast was by far the best meal of the day. 4 out of 8 people in my group got sick (on different days) from the food. Not sure what it was but it was definitely from the food. We really got to the point of not wanting to eat when it came to dinner. As for the hotel rooms they were poor and need updating. Strong musty smell in our first room before we changed rooms, our bathroom sink faucets (in both rooms) were broken and leaking, the sinks didn’t always drain, sometimes no hot water, sometimes no water at all, sometimes no power and the Wi-Fi was poor. If you need Wi-Fi to work then don’t count on it. We paid for 10 nights but left the last two nights to stay elsewhere. We just couldn’t eat or sleep there anymore. Our last two days were the best of the 10 days.

Disappointing

I have been to Mexico several times before, but this was my first visit to Puerto Vallarta, so it was a nice change. I have also only been to Mexico during the summer, so when we go, we usually stay at 4 and 5 star resorts, as it's much cheaper at that time. Since I have been to Mexico several times, I have made a lot of comparisons with the previous resorts that I have stayed at. The things I liked about Marival: The layout of the resort was easy to get around. It was a nice size - not overly big, and not extremely small. The grounds were well maintained. Every pool was clean and inviting The ocean area was well kept and enjoyable to swim in. The things that I did not like about Marival: The time share people that greet you as soon as you arrive at the resort. I've never experienced this before.....so it was a bit uncomfortable for me. I found that a good portion of the staff did not speak English well, which made things a bit frustrating at times. I also did not like the reservation system their restaurants use. We were allowed to make reservations at 3 restaurants for the week, but one of those reservations had to be used for the Christmas day buffet, which was the same at every restaurant. We also did not realize that reservations opened for the week on Sunday, so we were only able to try out 2 other restaurants because they were already full for the week. The food, at times, was under cooked, or very grey and bland looking. Overall, the meals were unsatisfying. The cleanliness of our rooms was also questionable. My brother and his family were quite ill for a good portion of the trip (not sure if it was travelers diarrhea, food poisoning, or the flu). They had asked a maid to come and clean up after my niece had been sick on the floor, and all they did was wipe it up with a towel. When they were asked to clean it up a bit more, all they did was wet a towel and wipe the spot again. No cleaning products were used. Overall, I did enjoy the trip, but I can't say that I would go back to Marival, or recommend it to other people.

Staff was great. Loved the beach and pools. Restaurants that you need reservations were all good but not a fan of the steak house. Room was very clean and great shower in our room. Had a king size bed and used a roll away for our daughter. They had it all set up buy the time we got to our room.
