We stayed at the Majestic Elegance for 1 week. Our last visit was approximately 10 years ago at the Majestic Colonial and they were just building the Elegance then. On this trip, they were just completing their new Mirage. We booked our transfers with Blue Travel just 3 days before departure. They had the best price and their service was very good. This hotel is located 25-30 minutes away from the airport. Check in was quick and we were given a welcome drink and a brief explanation of the hotel layout and what was included. A bellhop took our luggage to the room and gave us a layout of the room, grounds and amenities. The room was very clean and comfortable, and looked beautiful. The air and all other amenities worked well. Our room had daily beverage service which consisted of water, beer and sodas stocked in the refrigerator. I would leave several dollars every other day and our fridge was always stocked. A coffee maker is also provided. The balcony has a built-in rack to /dry clothes, two chairs and a small table. There is a Jacuzzi in the room, which I was told was an additional fee to use, and the housekeeper would need to set it up. We used the Jacuzzi throughout our stay and figured out how to operate it with no assistance or fee. We also received a bottle of champagne, which made the Jacuzzi even better. Although the room looked good, the drawers to the nightstands and dresser were in disrepair and extremely difficult to open. The free Wi-Fi worked great in almost all areas of the hotel. The Elegance has 6 restaurants: Flavors is the buffet restaurant that serves breakfast, lunch and dinner. The food was good, but the presentation needed to be better, as sometimes the food looked dated. Breakfast was your typical items with cooked to order eggs. Lunch and Dinner saw a new or different theme and dishes. Flavors is located just exit left of the lower lobby/bar and is air conditioned. Limited Gourmand, 9 Doors and Botaccio are all located in the lower floor of the lobby just across from the bar, by the elevators. We ate at Limited Gourmand but didn't like the service, which was slow. We sat for 20 minutes before any staff came over. After ordering, the service continued to be slow. We also did not like the menu choices too much. We never went to Botaccio. At these two restaurants, long pants / reservations are required. At 9 doors, the service, food and entertainment was great. The chef made sure to put on a show and was extremely personable. He made sure you had all the food and servings you wanted. The waiter was also very good. After bringing the local Mama Juana drink, he continued to bring more when we continued to ask for more!! El Asadito Steak House is located exit right from the lower lobby next to the gym. The food was good and plentiful. Service was outstanding and quick. The waiter knew us as he had served us at other restaurants and made sure we were waited on well. The steak was good, but make no mistake, it is not the Grade A cut steak found in the US. See and Sea is located near the beach and doubles as the breakfast and lunch buffet restaurant. At times, we would have breakfast or lunch here instead of the main buffet. It has a smaller selection than the main buffet. Service was good and they sat you at a table very quickly. On our arrival, we had dinner here and both the service and menu was pretty good. The Majestic Elegance has numerous bars located throughout the resort including the plaza, where live music and dancing occurred, the lobby bar, and See and Sea. I found service to be quick and the drinks were good, but at times you had to request a specific liquor or the cheap no name brand was poured. There is a bar located in the sports bar and at the Coco Disco. Coco Disco is located left of the buffet, across from the plaza. The walkway also has a cigar bar, photo shop and other stores. It leads you to the Colonial, where the kids play area, Splash Kids, is located on the left. There is a Snack bar across from there that is opened at night and serves hamburgers, hot dogs, nachos and fried chicken. nearby is the sports bar and casino. We walked to the Majestic Colonial almost every night. Their layout was similar to the Elegance and their restaurants had the same or similar name and menu. If you are staying at the Elegance, you were not allowed to use services at bars or restaurants in the Colonial. I can understand the restaurant use, but don't see why bar or drink service is not included in the entire resort. There are nightly shows in the theatre. The area has several acts that go from hotel to hotel to perform. Having been to Punta Cana several times, I was aware of the Michael Jackson Show, the Circus show and other shows. If you liked one of the main shows at the theatre, you could always see it again at the Colonial the next day. The sports bar, Cocos and dancing at the Plaza provided nightly entertainment. We were glad that no timeshare solicitation, or offers of free gifts to get you to attend one was ever solicited. We also went to Monkey Land and enjoyed it alot. We had monkeys climbing all over us and were able to feed them. Just know that the time getting there and being shown other attractions at the sight far outweigh the 20-25 minutes of time you spend with the monkeys. Still, all in all I found the experience worth it. The main attraction is the beach, which is beautiful and big. We did not have a problem finding chairs. There was service at the beach but it was quicker to get your own drinks We had insulated cups which they gladly filled. The bars have a menu listing the drinks available. Chairs were harder to find at the pool. Kayaks, pedal boats, catamaran, and snorkeling, was included. There is a gym is located behind the theatre, next to the lower lobby, by the courtyard. It has alot of equipment, treadmills, bikes and weights that were in good working order. There is a locker room and shower if needed. I believe the gym was also for the use of guest at the Majestic Colonial as the Sports Bar is now where the previous gym at the Colonial was located on my last visit. Overall we enjoyed our stay at the Majestic Elegance but found this hotel catered more to guest staying at the Elegance Club than other paying guests. The best beach / pool areas, bars, lounges, Bali beds and premium liquor are reserved exclusively for use of Elegance Club guests. It’s as if the management is saying to other guest that they are 2nd class citizens and not important. For this reason, on my next return to Punta Cana, I will stay elsewhere.

We were at the majestic elegance from March 3 to March 10. We stayed on the adults only side. Check in was a breeze, then We were given a tour of the property and then were shown to our room. It was very nice, king size bed with a jacuzzi tub (which we used) as our butler prepared it for us. Sitting in their sipping champagne was so relaxing. Never done that before. Thanks to our butler "Easy" ???for doing ng this. The food was amazing, we especially liked the Japanese restaurant. It was nice that you didn't have to make reservations at all the al a carte's, only the Japanese and the French. The service was terrific at all the restaurants. A special shout out to Roberto in the lobby bar and Caesar at the pool bar. there was no line ups for breakfast or at the bars. The beach was amazing. Liquor selection was good, I.e crown royal and baileys. We would definitely go back. No problem getting chairs by the pool in the morning. Lots of bars, lots of food, and good service.

Would like to recommend this hotel, but . . .

I would love to be able to recommend this hotel. (you should sense a “But . . .” coming) You arrive to an impressive, large open lobby, which then opens out and down to a huge, airy, open bar area, with lovely views of palms and pools through the archways. Check-in for Elegance was a bit lengthy, but not onerous. You receive a wrist band made from string and a coconut shell and it is not removable—I was very happy to have it cut off at the end of our stay. We were then shown to our rooms, which are quite spacious and very comfortable. The staff were remarkably cheerful, helpful, and courteous throughout our stay. I had never done a trip like this: tropical, all-inclusive resort. Our trips are usually more museum and culture oriented, so this was a new experience. The pools are crystal clear. The resort grounds are large and well-kept. The beach is lovely: fine soft sand, gorgeous water for swimming, long uninterrupted strand for walking (over 4 miles). There are plenty of lounge chairs, and fixed, palm-frond umbrellas when you need to escape the sun. The food, considering it is all-inclusive, and the number of covers being served daily, is quite good, though a bit unpredictable. The variety of restaurants is good and means little repetition in a stay of a week or less. There were five people in our group, so we did get to sample a good range of dishes. Our restaurant experience: See & Sea: breakfast and lunch buffets are very good with nice variety. Eating on the terrace is lovely. The baked goods—cakes, pastries and cookies—were surprisingly excellent (bear in mind finding decent baked goods where we live in the States is near impossible). Dinner is ordered off a menu and the entire meal was uniformly awful—all five entrees and appetizers were improperly cooked or just tasted bad. Il Botaccio: Good menu and good flavors. That said, the pasta was generally overcooked, and one was tough, something of a mixed bag. 9 Doors: Japanese style hibachi grill; a la carte sushi available as well. Some of the sushi was quite good, although it is a departure from authentic Japanese-style sushi; there is an over reliance on cream cheese as accompanying filling. The hibachi dishes were very good, but the atmosphere is very loud. Our chef’s entertainment skills were not at the level of a Benihana—he relied mostly on banging utensils loudly—but he was enthusiastic and friendly, and cooked the food well. However, the portions were enormous for anyone but a college freshman; we convinced him not to cook the fourth course as we couldn’t finish what was served (and consequently thrown out). Very wasteful. Asadito: Steakhouse; predictably tasty and the most consistently well-cooked of all our dining experiences. The T-bone special was enormous, for those who are interested in quantity + quality. Limited Gourmand: French-style cuisine is served here, and aside from the odd name (in what way is this gourmand limited?), the food was very good, consistent, and the portions more appropriate. A note on desserts overall: it’s a very haphazard and inconsistent offering. The local chefs seemed often to conflate whipped cream with mousse, so ordering a chocolate mousse, you might get a small piece of cake surrounded by whipped cream and covered with chocolate sauce (kind of an upscale mallomar). A dessert of the same name at one restaurant is often completely different at another. We tried a “cheesecake” at 9 Doors, and honestly, the five of us could not figure out what it was made of. One bite and we all made terrible faces. Bizarre. But the chocolate mousse cake at Asadito was delicious as were several others. Just order what’s on offer and give it a try. We booked in as Elegance Club members, which is slightly more expensive. It gives you access to quieter pools, and a couple of very pleasant lounge areas, as well as the attention of a “butler” assigned to your room to make your stay more pleasant. Our butler Victor was a gem—helpful, pro-active, cheerful and charming, and very patient with the two older members of our party. An asset. Now for the Buts . . . Rooms: We had to change our first room because of a strong smell of ammonia & sewage. Our second room had a slight smell of sewage—an improvement. It was clear the smell was coming from the shower drain, so the drains may not have been properly trapped when installed. The workaround, which was moderately successful, was to lay a wet towel over the drain and use the scented oil lamp provided to mask the smell. This was an issue in 3 of the 6 rooms our group dealt with. The toilet and shower each have a glass door, but are open to the room. There is no private space, so sharing with a friend would be awkward—even as a couple it would be nice to have some privacy. There is closet space with a couple of shelves, but no dresser drawers. The robes provided were quite worn and tattered. The balcony was a good sized space, but opened onto a maintenance alley, busy with loud truck and worker traffic. Beach/Water Activities: There’s no walk-in snorkeling off the beach—you can, but in the cordoned off swimming area, only one small bit is suitable for seeing any fish—it’s more of a tease than anything else. You cannot swim beyond the cordoned area, or one of the power boats shuttling tourists up and down the coast would end your vacation very quickly. We spoke with a friendly Australian staying at the Iberostar (about two miles south) and he said the snorkeling off his beach was quite good. There is a snorkeling-only excursion offered that leaves from the beach and takes you farther out off the coast. We did not do this as snorkeling was included in a Glass-Bottom boat excursion which we chose instead. The Glass-Bottom boat excursion was disappointing, if not criminally misrepresented. It’s a 1/2 hour drive on a shuttle to the boat. The glass viewing area is small, and you are generally cruising in water about 3 feet deep that is subject to a lot of boat traffic, so beyond some seaweed, there is no sea life to see anyway. The snorkeling portion is not true snorkeling: you are asked to swim with a flotation device, and are guided in a circle by one of the staff. There are also a 6-10 other boats at the location, with 6-20 passengers, so it’s pretty crowded. You do see some cute fish, but it’s not very relaxing. Then you are off to a ramshackle offshore enclosure, with a couple of rays and sharks in one pen, a couple of dolphins in another, and a couple of sea lions in a third—all the pens are too small and it was extremely depressing. And then you are taken to the “Natural Pool” where all the other excursion boats drop their anchors and passengers unload to stand around and drink (and pee!) in 2 1/2 feet of water. If you are part of a big group, I suppose it’s ok, but why can’t you do that when you get back to your resort? Pointless. And loud, with 6 different boats blasting 6 different soundtracks. Finally, the noise. At virtually all times guests are exposed to, and sometimes barraged by, music being piped in or performed throughout the resort. We’re talking giant speakers on the beach and speakers lining all the walkways. Open your patio door at 8 a.m., music. Sit down at the beach at 10 a.m., music. Sit by the Elegance pool at 2 p.m., and get blasted by music and an MC on a microphone, coming from the “family” pool from another area of the resort. Music was played loud enough in the restaurants to make it difficult to have a conversation. Musical shows played every night from 9:30 to 11:00, loud enough to be heard through walls and closed windows (causing one of our party to change rooms). I wouldn't think it too much to expect to be able to enjoy the sounds of the breeze in the palms and the crash of the surf, but sunrise was just about the only time that was possible. I do realize this is my preference, and appreciating quiet is not a high-priority for a lot of people—many guests may actually enjoy the music. The resorts all along the beach were the same, so perhaps it’s a DR thing. My wife spent a very nice long weekend at a resort in Mexico last year and had nothing of this issue. The noise alone will keep me from returning.

“"Arling" our butler - was AMAZING!!!!!!!!”

Nine night stay in building C - Elegance club swim up suite room 2155. Large living area with separate large bedroom. Jacuzzi inside & outside - private patio perfect location next to the pool bar and Elegance club lounge with a three minute walk to the beautiful beach. Rooms were kept exceptionally clean -daily service and restocking the mini fridge. Arling our Butler was AMAZING !!! From check-in to check-out he made every day feel special. Several unexpected surprises - Jacuzzi with rose petals and chilled champagne in our room upon arrival. Arling even made arrangements to have a birthday cake delivered to our room. On several nights we walked into our room and there were unexpected gifts - a resort hat, shirts, lavender oils burning, etc. We were traveling with my elderly dad (80 yrs old) who was staying in room 1148. Arling went out of his way to make each day special for him at the pool, at the beach and even surprised him with a special visit at the Japanese restaurant one night to ensure that we were enjoying our meal. If there was a way to clone a butler - Arling should be cloned 1000 times. We travel often and the butler service he provided was Phenomenal............The Majestic Elegance is lucky to have an employee as dedicated and devoted to customer service as him. On our last day he personally escorted us to the lobby - waited until our bags were loaded into the car and waived good bye as we pull away. We will miss him tremendously, he became part our extended family. The entertainment team will be a pleasant memory especially to my dad - William. AKA #3 the winner in a dance contest held at the theater before the main show started. They do such a good job - up beat and always smiling: - Black Barbie, what a smile and so much energy. - Francesca, can dance-dance-dance. - Nicki what a sweat heart and so full of life making your night feel special. - Elvis the porter at the main lobby so friendly and full of energy. We look forward to returning to the Majestic Elegance in the near future.
