Great family vacation

Third vacation in Punta Cana this time our son and girlfriend came with us. We stood at the Majestic Elegance this time. They have activities all day long lots of fun games. Didn't like the fact that you can't rent a cabana or the buffet food. Everything else was perfect. Main bar in at bottom of stairs in main entrance has this amazing bartender Tony campuzano this guy makes great drinks, great conversation and gives you good tips. Super helpful and funny. More>

Will be back…Wish we never left!!!

Four of us flew by Sunwing Elite to Punta Cana DR on July 4th 2016 (more below).Hotel arrival Majestic Elegance was second stop from airport. Our arrival procedure went well. Had welcome drink and were quickly forwarded to the air conditioned concierge check in. Went very well. Elegance side has butler service. From there, Emmanuelle our butler took us four and another group and made quick stops along the way to our rooms explaining the hotel and areas. It was okay but we had a very early day and were very hot so we asked to just get to our rooms. He had the group briefly wait and directed us over. It was about 35c and very humid. Our rooms were very nice (more below) but the room safe was locked out. We were the advance group for a wedding party of almost 60 guests and carrying funds and wedding rings etc, and didn’t want to leave the room until this was resolved. Likely should have called our butler first but we didn’t. It took the hotel close to 2.5 hours to resolve and this was finally done by Emanuelle getting involved. He had come by to check in on us. After that it was about 1 hour as the lock system had to be changed. That was the only downside for our whole stay. FYI…They are building another hotel right beside the elegance side. The noise was minimal but our room was not in the row against the new hotel. I always review trip advisor before travelling and was pleasantly surprised that the quality manager Maria was answering reviewers comments. So I called her in advance to check in with her and left her a message advising about the large group coming and to verify shuttles and possibly some wheelchairs would be available for the elders coming and to make sure they would be available on the wedding day to help everyone get around quickly. I left the message in the later part of the day for her on the hotel number. She called back shortly after but I was unable to take her call and she left a message. Before I could call her back the next morning, she called me to make sure I received her message. She had actually reviewed our whole guest list, spoke with the wedding coordinator Laura, and advised everything would be okay. She was willing to assist more but I mentioned that based on her follow up to me and her great responses on trip advisor, I knew I could trust her assistance for anything needed for when I arrive. FYI…Laura thank you so much. I leave the wedding report to my wife….from all I heard though…it was AWESOME. You should have seen all the ladies watching from the beach side….I think they all hoped for a wedding like that. On the morning of our day two we met up with Maria to go over everything and in summary… our wish list was hers. What a wonderful person. She apologised for the safe lock issue, inquired as to how long it took and who and when it was resolved…she was concerned…not acting like she was concerned. She was going to call someone to follow up to see why it took so long and I mentioned not to worry about it…it’s yesterday’s news. My wife and I were so pleased and in advance of the coming wedding and the arrival of the next 50 or so guests I tried to give her a 50 dollar tip. She refused it telling us that it is her job, she loves what she does, and the hotel already takes very good care of her. WOW. I couldn’t help but force her to take the money and put it in a charity or for someone who could use it. Regarding the resort, and since the next day the remaining guests were arriving, I took a bit of time for myself. And of course with the wedding day coming, I knew I needed to check out the resort and find some quiet places to hide….The hardest thing for me was the heat as I usually don’t travel south in the summer. I checked out the entire Elegance side. Everywhere I looked staff were hard at work, washing floors, painting hallway walls, ceilings, working in the gardens, emptying garbage, shuttling supplies…it was very well coordinated..and of course because of this it looked in pretty great shape. Everyone one I saw, I gave a few bucks to them…you should have seen their smiles and appreciation…It only made them work harder! The Majestic Elegance side had many areas to cool down. Each one I found (and sorry if it was only for the elegance side) there was one in the lobby by the reception side, and 1 at either end of the resort rooms layout. All had cool drinks snacks, espresso…and one near the rooms included wines and champagne, TV with close to 100 channels and newspapers….all staff were always ready to help. Above one of these rooms at the end near the beach was another air conditioned area…beer and liquor and breakfast snacks opening at 7am and stayed open to 11 pm…someone was there to help, cleanup, get coffee and rinks…..what pampering. And just outside these levels, was the beach bar, then a short walk to the gorgeous beach area. To the left was the private pool area and someone was serving drinks every time I was out there. Even had someone there doing towel service. Also to the left was the Sea and Sea buffet area with easy access from the beach. Everything was very close. Because of concerns of the Zika virus some of our guests cancelled. The hotel was spraying regularly and all was well with our group. Our room was spectacular, roomy, and well laid out. We had a bedroom with 4 post bed, Jacuzzi, TV, additional air conditioning, phones, side tables etc. opening by sliding door to outside lounger and steps to the pool. Beside the bedroom was a separate bath room area and double sink wash area with big mirrors and changing area with separate stalls for toilet and showers. There was a sliding door to divide this from the main large hall entry area ending in the living room complete with its own AC, couch and sofa, table, desk and chairs and TV with stocked fridge and 4 choices of alcohol. The sliding door opened up to a large private bali bed with sun cover, an outdoor Jacuzzi and it was only 5 yards max to the pool. WOW. The resort was super nice and the staff super friendly. I always drop a few dollars to everyone as I love to see them smile. By the end of the week quite a few people were saying they only want to work for me…what a touch to make you feel special. I must admit I thought all this great treatment was because of the wedding party…but my wife said it was the same treatment she received 5-6 months earlier when she went to check out the resort to make sure it was going to be great for the wedding. Sorry we did have an issue with the elderly roomed on the second floor when the elevators went down. My wife handled this one…she did explode on the lobby staff when it appeared they didn’t seem to care or fully understand…until she showed them the video she was going to post of trying to get them up all the stairs … The elevator was still down the next day but I asked Emmanuelle to resolve this. You have to expect something to happen on holidays. Evening events….sorry was too tired….heard they were good. I did stop quickly one night for a rock and roll band doing some old tunes and it was great. Restaurants…only went to steak house and Sea and Sea. Was pretty good but not exceptional….maybe it was what we ordered. Heard others were pretty good too. Resort was very nice, well laid out, and in pretty good shape. Not as big as some resorts we’ve been too which actually made it feel “homier”. The lobby was beautiful. People…so many to thank….our butler was Emmanuelle but after all his assistance and a few times chatting with him…he is family now. He treated us liked he cared…and all those I talked to said the same. I was told he started at the resort as a groundskeeper and worked his way up. They say he is an example to all. It’s great to know the hotel recognises this too. Anyways back to the story…He even tried to surprise us by cleaning our rooms on the wedding night as he knew the bride and bridesmaids were in one room and the groom and groomsman were in our room for most of the day getting ready, and for pictures and what a zoo it was…I was kicked out of my own room for this…then I spent the day running errands for my wife and bridesmaids…with last minute preparations. But there was Emmanuelle..he helped with extra drinks, glassware for champagne for the wedding party photo shoots…even some days when I looked for him and was advised it was a few hours after his shift…there he was to check in with me. He even brought us nice majestic hats and shirts as apology for the room safe issue. We were going to have an issue with the shuttle cart and getting the old people to the sea and sea outdoor area for the reception….what did he do..he had someone send down the wheel chairs in advance so when the elderly came they were ready to set up and whisk them over. The staffing and food at all the buffets was great. The rehearsal dinner was in the main buffet area with top notch staff service, the cocktail area and Piano bar was excellent, with the final wedding dinner at the Sea and Sea which was very well supported. The wedding, they ever arranged to have some cold beers for me….to bad I was the only one in the wedding party with shorts and sandals….but if it wasn’t for all the help and cold beers I would have melted…and yes they had a lot of cold water for everyone else too. We noticed Maria many times around the hotel checking on things. Our wedding party did notice some things at the rehearsal where the wedding service was going to be and right away she was on the radio to call someone to address it. I will say…it was the best serviced pampered resort I have been to in a very long time. For sure we will be back…The new side opens in December and if on schedule and maybe we’ll try it there….I’ll have to roll the dice on that as there would be no reason for me to upgrade further from the elegance side. There are so many people to thank, I don’t even know where to begin…So to everyone…. a very warm thank you and my wife and I wish you all the very best. Sorry it has taken so long to write but better late than inaccurate or short. We will see you all again!!! The Flights…Four of us flew by Sunwing Elite to Punta Cana DR on July 4th 2016. Overall departure okay. Flight on time. Showed wrong movie and had to watch it again on return. Sunwing reps on the flight did not have enough DR entry forms for us so we had to fill them out at airport. 8 flights arrived at same time and by the time the bus delivered us to the herding area and we finally filled out the forms we were way back in the line. Processing through the airport was slow. The $10 entry airport tax seemed like a scam tax however I think they need it to upgrade the tourist arrivals area. We were the last to get though and by the time we reached the transport bus to the hotel it was packed. We did get seats though. There were issues going back too…especially with the elderly…Sunwing staff in Punta Cana had very little patience. One elderly’s bag was lost on the return flight and after waiting hours at the airport with a large group we were finally advised it was nowhere to be found…The sunwing support rep was very curt, was taking a number of calls on her cell phone and said she was off work in 10 minutes…but we needed assistance. Even the Toronto airport security representative yelled at her to help…Luckily the elderly had extra meds at home. Took them 2-3 days to locate. At least they delivered the bag. More>

Sorry for the late post, but I hopefully will provide useful information for those planning to stay at the Majestic Elegance. We stayed in the Elegance Club an I will be providing facts regarding out stay. Check In: We arrived at the resort at approximately 5:30 pm on July 8. When we arrived at the resort, and were identified as Elegance Club guests, we were escorted from the front desk to another area. This seemed like a "delay" technique, as our check in would have been much quicker had we checked in at the main check in. As it turned out, there were only 2 butlers on duty during the time we arrived. One butler was assigned to one of the couples and the 2nd butler was assigned to the remaining 6 couples. You guest it. We were all in a "holding pattern" waiting for all "scheduled" guest to arrive. Mind you, there were nice appetizers and cold drinks available as we waited but, after a long plane ride, we just wanted to get to our rooms. As one of the 6 remaining couples, we were escorted by our butler to the "Ella" section of the resort, while the other couple walked towards the "Elle" section of the resort. In all fairness to our butler (whose name I am having trouble remembering) he had the responsibility of escorted each of us to our rooms after a very quick "tour" (I use the word "tour" loosely). Obviously, he did not have much time to spend with us, individually, so we found this portion of our visit to be lacking to say the least. Throughout the resort, we noticed banners adorning the doors. Some said Happy Birthday, Welcome Back, and Happy Anniversary. Because we had notified the resort that we were celebrating our 29th anniversary and my birthday, I was surprised that there was no banner on our door. I had also requested a non-smoking room (which was given as an option when we booked), away from construction, and close to the beach. I said I would be satisfied with a non smoking room if no other requests could be honored. You guessed it, we had a smoking room on the construction side. Sigh! I immediately requested a room change and was told it would be done "tomorrow". I attribute this issue to the fact that we arrived on a Friday, late in the day. The room was gorgeous and the only complaint I had, other than the fact that it was a smoking room (as we learned all rooms are) near construction, was that one of our sinks would not drain. We didn't make an issue of that since we knew we would be moving. On Saturday, after multiple calls to the front desk, we were moved to the "Elle" Side and our room overlooked the courtyard. What an improvement! The room was just a gorgeous as the first and we were very pleased with our new location. The only other tidbit that I will offer is the rectangular toilet that others have mentioned. This was not a problem, just odd. Butler: As I mentioned, I can't remember the name of our butler. That's because he was very forgettable. We never heard from him on or second day. We were told he was made aware of our move and would be in touch with us. However, on the 2nd evening he left a note and 2 hats in our room while we were at dinner. On day three, we had no contact with him. On day 4, our anniversary, we did not hear from him. On day 5, the day after our anniversary, he called the room, asked what we were doing, said he would meet us on the beach because he wanted to do something special for our anniversary (our maid Carolina had actually put a banner on our door the day of our anniversary....because I had left a note on the pillow saying the day was our anniversary....and also had champagne on ice in the room for us). He never showed up on the beach, but we passed him in the hall and he again said he was "doing something special" for our anniversary. Later, when we returned to the room, Carolina was filling out hot tub and had our champagne, which we hadn't drank from the day before, on ice again. Our butler poked his head around her and said happy anniversary. This is for you. I didn't have the heart to say our anniversary had been the day before and just thanked....but did not tip...him. We didn't see him again until we were leaving. Housekeeping: Excellent....excellent....excellent. Our room was cleaned daily. We received washcloths daily (these were indeed missing from our first room). Our fridge was stocked daily. Carolina was extremely attentive, pleasant and just a joy to see each day. Entertainment: We really didn't take part in much of the entertainment but, when we did, there were two standouts: Nadia and Obama. They were extremely personable and did their best to foster participation without being pushy. Meals: Our comments are pretty much the same for all restaurants. Food was average. Service was great. Service for drinks and appetizers was very quick but the main course was always slow to arrive and lukewarm instead of hot. Nothing really stood out as exceptional, but nothing as bad either. We did learn, towards the end, that even if you had the large buffet breakfast in the main hotel area, you could eat it in the Italian restaurant if you were an Elegance Club guest. The wait staff were all professional, friendly and attentive. Mosquitoes: Yes, they exist. I received multiple bites the first night while on the beach, but none while in the room.....ever. I used repellent after the first night and was never bitten again. My husband did not receive one bite the entire time we were there. Beach/Pools: I've saved the best for last. The private beach and pool areas were worth the "Club" upgrade. We were in adults only areas, it was quiet (most of the time) and afforded us the opportunity to do what we really wanted to do....rest. The beach was very clean....I never saw seaweed! There was always a place to sit and cabana beds were always available as well. The wait staff on the Ella side, I feel, were more attentive, but this was not a real issue for us. Yes, the drinks were small, but refills were readily available. Staff also filled your personal glasses if you brought your own. It was a little bit of heaven. Miscellaneous: It was extremely humid inside and out of the room. Our swimsuits were never dry. Bring at least 2 suits. Don't go for the food. Don't go for the butler service. Go for the privacy and beauty. More>

This place was very good!!

This was out 1st trip without kids in 18 Years. We picked this place on the recommendation of friends. When you arrive at the airport beware of the timeshare sales guys. They present themselves as your hotel transport and try to sell you excursions for cheap without ever mentioning the timeshare pitch you'd have to endure at your "free complimentary breakfast" the following day before you get your tickets. We found the place to be great. Check-in went well. We arrived really early so we made our way around the resort before having our room assigned. We were told that if we had any electronic items, laptops and iPads that we should carry them with us instead of leaving them in the bags. That was a bit annoying. Yes, it does need a little updating, especially the pool tiles but overall it was very nice. The staff was super friendly and helpful. Special mention to Freddie the morning Buffet supervisor who went out of his way for us and Padilla the evening food supervisor whom we spoke with at the Italian restaurant who was also top notch. The food at the Sea by the Sea and French restaurant was so-so but def not bad. The breakfast buffet was great and the Hibachi was our favorite. Very tasty and filling. We didn't find anyone harassing us to buy anything at the beach so it was good. A bit of seaweed but the water was clean and warm overall. Hotel prices are crazy so take a stroll to the plaza right out of the Hotel grounds. You won't regret it. Prices are much more reasonable. The staff was constantly putting together cool (sometimes silly) activities but they kept everyone entertained. One thing I did not like was that there were no lifeguards on duty anywhere. Beach or pool. This shouldn't be. Overall we had a very nice trip and would definitely go back next yr. Make sure if you use travelocity or Expedia that you clear exactly what you're paying for in the way of airport transfers. I prepaid for round trip transfers but when I went to confirm my return trip I was told that I was only booked for arrival and would have to pay for the return trip. I was forced to because I couldn't get I. Touch with travelocity but after I arrived home I contacted them and they refunded the money after assuring me that it was round trip and not one way. Be careful. If you want to eat, drink and hang at the beach and pool then this is a good place to do it. More>

2nd visit to hotel

This is a beautiful resort, but I must say quality has declined in the 4 years from my last stay! The property is absolutely beautiful. It is clean and very meticulously kept. The rooms are also clean and comfortable, with adequate (although not freezing) air conditioning. The food however has gone downhill. My he buffet has very little variety, and food just sits there getting cold... The Limited Gourmet (French) restaurant is excellent. The rest..eh, not so much... The first night we arrived, we were given rooms in the Ella side of the Elegance Club. We had 3 rooms facing the construction side of the new Mirage hotel. Workers could look right into our rooms! We asked to be switched to the Elle side, which they did do the next day. Much better on that side regardless of construction. Overall, a nice 5 day visit, but I. Not sure I will return for a third time... More>
