Construction site on arrival...

At first the good stuff: the hotel is not as big as many others in playa, the pool lies inbetween a nice garden surrounded by a palm trees. the location seems perfect as far as beach-access is not absolutely necessary for you (and to be frank: the beach in playa is super-crouded anyways..). and the staff is reasonably nice and the breakfast is also very good. now to the bad stuff: the rooms are "american standard", and lack every bit of charm. upon arrival in the evening we recognised that half of the pool area was covered with barriers for a construction site. on the next day at 10 o'clock the jackhammers started and went on for the whole day. it was like that for our whole stay in playa. only when we complained, we where offered access for the spool at a partner-hotel (but this only because the very nice front desk girl took some effort). and because of that arrangement the management wanted us to sign a waiver upon depature. don't get me wrong: i don't want to complain about the necessity of renovation work, and i absolutely don't want to complain about the staff. but i thing it was a outrageous decision by the management, that at low-season it is O.K. to ruin the stay of the few guest there are. without any doubt it was taken into account, that not everyone will complain (i think normally i would also be one of them, because i'm out diving the whole day anyway - but since i catched a cold i had to endure the construction site more or less the whole day).

It was OK

We had big expectations of the Magic Blue Hotel because we saw a lot of great reviews and the pictures are stunning but honestly our stay was simply OK. Our room (12) was less than average; the mattress and pillows seemed to be very old, the AC was pointed directly to the bed so we were never at a nice temperature (always hot but feeling like we could get sick anytime) and it was simply ugly, all painted in white, with two white blinds on each side, the sink outside the bathroom, the shower didn’t even had a door, etc. But the worst thing was the spotlight located right outside our window (WHY?!); when we turned off the lights to sleep it looked like it was still daylight! My husband had to put towels to try to cover it. Also, one night there was a couple screaming and fighting at 2AM, the walls are so thin we could hear it as if it was happening right inside our room. Another thing that happened is that we were not told we could pay the parking lot from the reception with credit card until the very last day (we overheard a conversation at the reception), it would’ve made our trip way easier if we didn’t have to go to the ATM everyday. However, the service and breakfast were great, and the installations -outside the rooms- were nice. None of these things are related with the service or the staff, and the hotel was full, so we decided not to complain, but we are definitely never going back.

Wonderful place

Great hôtel ! Position is perfect as it is a couple of minutes away from the beach and the center. Rooms are nice, offering a nice balcony with hammock and a pool view. Service was great, especially the reception that welcomed us with refreshing drinks and wet towels ! Breakfast is amazing too, offering a large choice. Pool is very relaxing, offering large chairs and sofas with shadows or not. I would definitely come back !!!

Good hotel for couples

Nice and quiet hotel with large rooms and a balcony. We've stayed there for 4 nights. Its next to the coco bongo and close to the 5th ave which is the main place to be in. Good breakfast and nice happy hour every evening at the pool bar

The best place to stay in playa!!!!

We stayed in this perfect hotel for 5 days. The location is the best in Playa, the rooms are very clean and beautiful(especially the master suit), the pool is great and the hospitality is the best! All the staff (especially Angie the reception manager) was so kind and helpful and did everything they could to make our time there the most pleasant! Very recommended!!!!!
