an amazing time! unfortunately it went by way too fast. my initial impression was that the place is massive. i can’t even imagine how they’re able to operate at that scale and still give such attention to detail. we were fortunate to receive an upgrade to the penthouse suite with rooftop jacuzzi and it was phenomenal, we will definitely be upgrading when we return, it’s worth it. as others mentioned, the food at alux was amazing. the buffet style food for lunch and snacks got a little old, but that’s to be expected with all inclusive and it was totally manageable and better than a lot of others. the house beer is dos equis and the liquor is premium and poured with a heavy hand. been to a handful of all inclusives from barcelo to secrets and this tops the list. special shout out to silvana (sp?) at the front desk and galdino at the beach bar who were extremely professional and accommodating.

We had a great time! We booked Coba but at check in were upgraded to Sian Ka'an and once the very long process of checking into 2 different lobbys and getting our luggage was over the rest of our trip was excelente! We had been looking at the resort map from Coba and thought we had it down pat, but had to learn Sian Ka'an on the fly which was really easy and we are very happy about taking the upgrade. At first we were a little disappointed about being in building 32 because we were so far away from all the action, but it was really nice on days that we wanted to be quiet as most people don't even know about the Jacuzzi pool and sushi bar, but if you can't walk far distances you might not want to be in the area by the Jacuzzi pool. The pool at the other end of Sian Ka'an is where all the action happens and the entertainment team is wonderful. We played bingo everyday and than there was always different games after bingo, one day we played a game where they put a little bit of water inside a balloon and the team that had the least amount of balloons on their side of the volleyball net won...really fun and lots of laughing by all! The food was really good everywhere we ate! We did 3 a la cartes, Cozumel the Mexican restaurant was good, the salad bar is so big that I was almost full before the main menu came. Gran Tortuga the Brazilian BBQ was fantastic, the meats were very tasty and great quality. We could barely breathe we were so full. On the last night we ate at Mikado "The show" and what a way to end the trip! The show was great, the staff was great and the food was the best! The beach is beautiful, we got a seat every time we went and within mins someone would come and take our drink order and return with it very quickly. There are lots of fish to snorkel with right in the buoy swimming section of Sian Ka'an and the trolleys would take you right there without much of a wait. The trolleys are a must and most of the time there wouldn't be much of a wait but I did find it a little stressful in the evenings trying to make it to an a la carte on time because of the amount of people, but I guess there was no reason to stress as we always made it on time, but you do have to give yourself about 20-30 mins in case you just miss your trolley. The only advice I would give to the resort is to have some fruit, pastries, coffee or something in the lobby for the people that have to leave at 5/6am. By the time you get to the airport food court you are very hungry. Everything was wonderful, and we will return! I recommend this resort to anyone, I felt safe the whole time and the staff works very hard to keep things going smoothly.

On my first day arriving, the hotel check in team told me my superior junior suite was not ready and I would have to accept a smaller room with less facilities for a refund of $20, wow , then 30 seconds later I was then informed my suite would not be available at all!! I’ve come to celebrate not only my birthday but 12 year anniversary too, I was disgusted by the reception staffs attitude of sorry but were fully booked, then I called the manager out and told him if my room was not going to be available then call my tui rep and I’m leaving immediately. He then changed his mind and we were offered our suite for the next day. Not a great start after 16 hours of travelling. See what day 2 brings??.

We came here for my boyfriend's 30th birthday, I searched high and low for a resort that was the perfect combo of fun and romance, and this was it! I booked the penthouse suite with the rooftop Jacuzzi, ABSOLUTELY worth whatever the extra cost is to get this room. From the minute we checked in, we were treated like we owned the place. We were greeted by Hector, who went out of his way to make sure all the plans I had regarding dinners and birthday celebration were met. Our butler Yair was fantastic, so friendly and accommodating, went out of his way to make sure we always had what we needed and would come and set up our Jacuzzi fresh daily at the time we requested. On the day of his birthday, they decorated the room door and brought in complimentary champagne and the cutest birthday plate of chocolate. There were always rose petals everywhere, which added to the luxury and romance of the resort. Our favorite bartender Randi, knew us after the first day and was literally the best bartender we've ever come across on vacation. We had his birthday dinner at Alux, who also went out of their way to decorate the table with rose petals and make sure we were at the best table in the house. The food was amazing and ended with tableside flambé. The activity pool was super fun, but the "quite" pool was so relaxing. The tram ride to the beach was no big deal at all, even quite nice. We also had dinner one night at Los Corales, which for the view alone I would recommend. It is beachside and the views are stunning at sunset while you have dinner. One thing I want to mention that is very rarely discussed is the linens and accommodations. The towels were huge and fluffy, the bedding / bed was exquisite. I have never slept so soundly in my life. The toiletries supplied are much more than any other resort I've ever stayed at. The only complaint I had, was the shower water was not hot or even warm the first night. We called and they came up immediately. It was fixed, and Hector and Yair both followed up several days after to make sure we were still satisfied with it. I honestly can not even put into one review how amazing this resort is. Every aspect was pure paradise, and I would go back over and over. I have been to Jamaica twice and Punta Cana once, and going forward I am a straight Riviera Maya girl. PS, the food was delicious as well, I know this is a main concern for most people when trying to decide on a resort. If you are looking for adult only, fun, and romance at an amazing price this is your spot!

This hotel had so much potential yet never quite lived up to the standard of luxury. On arrival we were taken to our superior junior suite, which was nice and big. It had a lovely home away from home feel, perfect for your afternoon siesta. The shower could be much better and there is a random sink in the room that you never use. The cleaner often didn't turn up until about 5pm so that wasn't very good. Often the fridge wasn't restocked with the things we used to the most and the turn down service (when it did come) was pretty pointless as the cleaner had only just cleaned the room. The butler service was good. We had pizza room service and different scents on various day's,never took a long time. Pro's: Staff try hard to be attentive. Lovely complex. Shuttle buses were quick and friendly. Grounds kept perfect. Some beautiful wildlife to see. Beach area was nice. Book your tours in the front lobby and go with allTOURnative. Staff are awesome and a percentage of your tour cost goes to conservation of some of Mexico's natural beauties. Cons: Getting bookings in the restaurants was hard and the restaurants never seemed to have more than 50% full. Alcohol available wasn't to premium standard. Service really started to lack as resort became more busy. The Adults only beach section is open to Akumal guests too, who just so happen to be right next to the beach so you have to be up at the crack of dawn if you want to get a seat with some shade yet the bar won't give you any water until 10am. People reserving seats with towels here is a huge bugbare. People put their towels down around 6-7am at the pool and beach and do not return for hours on end so unless you don't mind sitting with the kids, you have to get up early. The restaurants were inconsistent. We went to Rodizio (Las corales) in our first week which was amazing so booked again. The second time we waited over half an hour to get a drink and an hour and 15mins to be served our first bit of beef that was so overcooked it was awful. Lack of umbrellas at pool/beach. Aircon was never on in the lobby or the buffet area. Lobby bar was slow (the 2 bar staff worked ridiculously hard but couldn't keep up with the busy area) This complex is lovely but being so huge takes away from that individual experience. I had a dodgy tummy on the second day which I put down to me having a sensitive stomach but later discovered that at least one person from every group I'd spoken to had the same issue, some returning guests too. It's a shame to talk to so many guests that have been to this resort before and returned because they thought it was so amazing yet as little as a year later, are talking about how much the standards have slipped. All these little issues could so easily be rectified with a few more staff and a little more consideration of it's luxury status. It seems Bahia Principe are becoming less concerned about their guests and we chose this hotel as my partner had been to a Bahia before and thought it was impeccable. The Sian Ka'an is lovely but doesn't feel exclusive. We had an awesome holiday and will return to Mexico but would more than likely find a smaller hotel where the beach area is exclusive and personal experience is more considered.
