BEST RESORT IN AREA! BEST STAFF, BEST FOOD!

This was our 4th time to Samana and all around the best resort there and indeed one of the best resorts that we have ever been to. The weather was not the best because of the rain and the beach is small but do they ever greet you well, ready to do anything to make your stay a memorable one and make your feel at home. The restaurants are great but the buffet is even better; by far the best food that we have had of all the very many resorts we have stayed in. The house wine is also a plus. Small adult only resort is also a big plus. Always plenty of space & chairs. Superior rooms & superior staff. Roberto at the lobby bar can make any type of special drink you want.Jose at the pool bar is also a good bartender and always very friendly. Isabelle at the front desk is super helpful and William, aka Al Pacino is always smiling, joking & so friendly. I do not hesitate in most highly recommending this resort, especially for older and middles aged persons. 5 BIG STARS FOR US!

Ok this is my first time reviewing but I've been to a lot of different all inclusive resorts. My husband and I went to this resort in February 2018. We are both foodies and love our wines. Here is a breakdown of our thoughts: Service: the first day wasn't great. There was only one person checking in a busload of people but it was late. The other thing to note is not many spoke English but they did try hard to understand us. Throughout the week the level of service did increase. Staff always seemed cheerful and helpful. They always were on top of refilling our drinks, even by the beach and our room was always cleaned well. Food: the buffet was always well stocked with a huge selection. Something for everyone and it was very good. The best restaurant was the rodizio hands down! Be prepared to be full! It was a great experience! The Italian restaurant was good but not a lot of choices and the Don Pablo our least favourite. Make reservations early if you don't want to eat at 8pm or later! They book quickly. If you download the app you can book from your mobile device. Drinks: lots of choice and they always kept them coming! Basic wines weren't bad either :) Rooms: always clean, smaller than we expected for having a junior sea room suite. Definitely book the sea view! It's worth the money! The views were spectacular but I'd recommend going higher up. The lower balconies had large pillars that while sitting blocked the views. I recommend leaving a tip the first day because it's well worth the results! (We found this out later on in the week) Shows: the shows were pretty cheesy. The one acrobatic show and fire show was worth going to though. It did rain most evenings during our stay though bringing the shows inside which may have hindered them slightly. Resort location: be prepared for a scary and fast bus ride to the resort which takes a while to get to. Roads are narrow and dogs everywhere running out on the roads. The resort location is stunning! Beautiful views no matter where you are and from almost every restaurant. Because it's on a hilltop keep in mind there are a ton of stairs everywhere you go! We sure got our workouts in! If you don't like stairs-don't go! Definitely the nicest view for a hotel we've ever been too! THe resort is equivalent to being on a cruise ship. It's smaller and private and not a lot of ways to walk and explore. If that's your thing then you're in luck! Swimming: the ocean was gorgeous and there was always a chair for someone. This goes for the pool area as well. The ocean waves were relaxing whereas the pool area always had music and activities so choose your preference. Both were equally nice just different. The water in the ocean was warmer than the pool. Amenities: there were books, magazines and board games for you to use in the main lobby. We went to the spa and choose the Bahia couples massage. Don't do the jacuzzi it was cold and shallow and not worth the money but the massage itself was nice. Don't expect it to be like at home, more of an all over body relaxation massage. They don't work out those knots but it's still great. They also had a small gym with a shower. It only offers a few pieces of equipment but was hardly used. It does the trick just fine! Excursions: we only did the National Park eco-tour. If you book with the hotel not your flight rep it's way cheaper and the same thing!! It was a 40 min boat ride in very rocky waters but it wasn't too bad and the boat driver was very capable! We visited the national park which essentially was rocks and cliffs which you view from the boat. Then you hit cave #1 where they give you a flashlight and lead you through a Swampy like trail and a cave. It wasn't anything spectacular but fun to walk around. Then we went to the sand cave which was a bit more interesting and had a lot of bats flying in and out. Lastly we went to the public beach for a buffet style lunch of chicken, rice, fish and fruit and they give you two drink tickets. Then you are on your own to swim at the beach. The water is much calmer and you can purchase drinks from a beach bar. It was very busy. This beach you can actually get a free shuttle to at anytime from the hotel by the way but you have to pay extra for drinks. Worth seeing and the boat ride is fun but I don't think the $100US paid each was worth it. We just wanted to get out of the resort and do something different. All in all a good experience, amazing view, nice smiling staff, clean rooms, decent food and the wifi always worked even by the beach. I'd definitely recommend this hotel.

2018 Vacation in Samana

We where upgraded to the Luxury Bahia Princepe from Jan. 27 to Feb.6 2018. We had an ocean view junior suite that had spectacular views of the ocean and various parts of the resort. This resort offers a wide variety of services many of which we did not take advantage of and probably never would so for that part we find it to be pricey. we found the beach area very small and with the road just above it could be noisy at times. They do have elevators but you are somewhat restricted in where you can go if you are not fairly healthy as there is a lot of stairs. I found the food to be average, the drinks above average and the entertainment the same as other resorts. It is a smaller resort with limited area to walk other than down the road. the resort is also quite quiet and by 11 everything is pretty well shut down. Staff are friendly and willing to assist. The resort has lots to offer if you just want to lay by the pool or beach but if you like lots of activity this is not for you

Nice view but not much else to offer

We booked this hotel for a one-week much awaited vacation end of January 2017. We were traveling with another couple and had reserved 2 junior suites with ocean view. Drive from Samana airport to hotel is about 1 hour and 20 minutes, arrived at hotel at about 4 pm. After filling out the paperwork we were informed that our room was not ready, when we asked how long it would be we were told “I don’t know”. Our luggage was left in the lobby and we patiently waited to be called. We returned around 6 pm to find that our room was still not ready and still didn’t know when it would be. Only at that point were we then informed that they did not have any junior suites available and we would be downgraded to regular rooms for at least 2 days. I think there is something quintessentially wrong with a hotel that does not respect their guests’ reservations. We ended up getting 2 (standard) rooms at past 7pm and a promise of (hopefully) getting the rooms we had reserved the next day. We finally got our rooms around noon the next day, but this only after much arguing with the unfortunate employees at the front desk and the manager. We found this to be a very unpleasant experience as this was not how we had planned to begin our vacation. The information we pieced together was that many people were shipped to this hotel from nearby overbooked Bahia hotels and as an incentive were offered room upgrades. Was this done in an effort to fill up a hotel that (from several reviews I had read) was often only half-full? I guess there is nothing wrong with that, unless of course by doing so you are punishing the people who actually chose to stay in your hotel in the first place. After this unpleasant experience we won’t be choosing this hotel again. WHAT WE LIKED MORE: -The hotel/rooms are very clean -The view is awesome, and it’s the nicest thing about this hotel -The employees in all areas of the hotel who work very hard and very long hours -The food at the buffet was quite good and in our opinion the buffet was the best restaurant option on the site -The 4 evening shows they had during our 7-day stay were very nice WHAT WE LIKED LESS: -The beach is extremely small and the waters are very, very rough. The first day-and-a-half (and every night) access to the beach was closed off altogether and every day of our 7-day stay was a red flag day. I believe there is a free daily shuttle to a public beach on Cayo Levantado, we did not go as we did not see the point of paying for a resort and then having to go get hassled at a public beach. -There is only 1 pool (not a very large one) and most of it is deep -Smoking is allowed pretty much everywhere on the site, except inside your room (allowed on room balconies), the lobby and within the restaurants. There seemed to be a lot of smokers on the site and we found this to be a problem, especially the cigar smoking around the pool, which literally drove us away one day as we couldn’t take it anymore (the day the guy selling cigars set up his table right next to our loungers and then proceeded to smoke his products non-stop). This has never been an issue for me at any other resort, but perhaps it’s because this resort is very small. -Another day it was the very loud music at the pool bar which forced us to move (I understand that it’s so everyone around the pool can hear it, but maybe place another speaker at the other end of the pool so the people closest to the bar don’t get their ears blasted off). -The à la carte restaurants were not worth the bother you needed to go to in order to get reservations. Rodizio was ok, the food at Bella Italia was seriously over-salted and Don Pablo seriously over-rated. -There isn’t much in terms of activities and although the activities we took part in were fairly enjoyable, we found them to be very short (yoga, pool aerobics only lasted about 20-30 minutes) -There’s a jacuzzi but when we used it we found the water to be unpleasantly cold So if you’re thinking of going to this resort: -Go for the view, go for the people, and for the decent buffet food and clean surroundings, if you don’t mind the smoking and have no specific room requirements -Don’t go for the beach, the water, the activities, nor if you prefer a (mostly) smoke-free environment and expect your room reservations to be respected

Excellent Stay

I was so very pleased with my stay at the Luxury Bahia Principe Samana. The facilities were great (perhaps the gym could use a little bit of upgrading, but honestly the gym is the last place I want to spend my time). The food was excellent, far exceeded my expectations, and I didn't even try the resorts. The staff was very accommodating from beginning to end. Pool great. The beach itself not the best beach in DR or Samana area, but good enough, and it's pretty easy to access the hotel's sister property's beach on Cayo Levantado. The ocean view room was totally worth it. I also love that the resort was compact, everything you need but not walking ten minutes to get from point A to point B. Last I thought the price was very fair for the caliber of food, drink, accommodation and service. I look forward to staying here again.
