The service provided by the butlers, servers and staff deserves 5 stars. Marisol and Wandy were our butlers and they were great. Ramon at the poolside bar is very friendly, attentive, and down to earth. HOWEVER the hotel needs to work on living up to the name "luxury." 1st- the beds are very low quality. The mattresses are cheap and hard. The blankets provided were the cheapest foam material and the bed covers were super heavy and also of low quality. Luxury would be to replace those mattresses and to add soft down comforters and even sheets with more thread layers. I have slept on more comfortable beds in Hershey, Pennsylvania in a no name hotel. This was very disappointing and not luxurious at all. 2nd- There is clearly a mold problem in the gym. The gym reeks of mold! This is dangerous for all guests but especially those with asthma, like myself, and others with respiratory illnesses and allergies to mold. 3rd- almost as disappointing as the beds was the COLD WATER JACUZZI near the spa. It is the hotel's 1 and only outdoor jacuzzi and it is not heated! Who ever heard of such a thing? This is one of the reasons I did not get a massage in their spa. Who wants the go into a cold jacuzzi after a relaxing massage? When I asked for the jacuzzi to be heated I was told by staff that they allow it to get warmed up by the sun. So basically it is a miniature pool. Such a waste of space and source of aggravation. The entertainment is corny and I found the resort to be a bit too quiet. The "game" area has darts and that's about it. Theres literally nothing do do besides tan and swim. They took this "adults only" thing too far in my opinion. Adults would play ping pong, volley ball, and other low key games but this hotel is lacking so much. They have the space for these amenities, I do not understand why the hotel has limited itself in these ways. On that note, I would advise others to go to the one on Cayo levantado because this place is bare bones. It's beautiful and clean but even the beach water is bluer in Cayo levantado.

Wow amazing views

We took a one day trip organized by Grand Bahia Principe Cayo Leventado where we have stayed on 4 previous occasions including this year - We just loved it - the views are stunning and we took the opportunity to use all the facilities including the sea view buffet restaurant at lunch time - The beach bar offered a very good service for the few hours we had on the beach - there are x2 two sea view swimming pools where again the bar staff were very good and interacted well knowing that we were only there for the day - Its adults only and we felt completely chilled out whilst there - So much so that we plan to do x 1 week at Lux Bahia Samana and x1 week at Cayo Leventado next time we book WOW all over again G@J Wakefield UK

Best vacation I've taken yet

My girl friend and I spent 6 nights/7 days at this resort. August 9th to August 16th. We rented a car at the Santo Domingo airport and drove ourselves. A fairly easy 2 hour 30 min drive from the airport to the resort (drive one road for 60 miles and a second road for 30 miles.) The roads were better than they are in Brooklyn, NY! The resort offers a shuttle for guests but having our own car saved us a ton of money when it came time to visit places off the resort. We did everything ourselves instead of paying for tours. We visited Salto Del Limon (twice), Playa Rinco, Playa El Valle, Playa Bonita, La Boca Del Diablo...all on our own at our own leisure. Samana is very simple to get around and with google maps you'll have no trouble. From the moment we first pulled into the resort the staff was polite and helpful; They made us feel more than welcomed. We arrived earlier than the check in time so they held our luggage and gave us our bracelets so we had access to breakfast and all the facilities. They got our room ready early and let us settle in. The staff was more than ready to accommodate any of our requests all throughout week. The food was delicious. Every day they have a buffet for breakfast, lunch, and dinner. They have typical foods available every meal and then each night they'll add food for a certain theme (Mexican, Dominican, Italian...) They also have 3 restaurants (Brazilian, Italian, and French) that are available through reservations. Only 1 out of the 3 restaurants is open each night, you can find out the schedule at the front desk and make reservations. The beach is right below the resort and is gorgeous, clean, and relaxing. They have a bar down there so you can keep the Presidentes coming all day long. The pool is nice as well. I had a spa appointment while I was there. Price was very reasonable and the services fantastic. The staff was incredibly helpful by giving us tips and advice for traveling outside the resort. The room was very nice and well kept. The mini bar is restocked every morning when the room is cleaned. 24/7 room service is available. The resort has two stores available to buy all your basic necessities. The resort is large but wasn't filled to capacity, which was a great thing in my opinion. Never crowded or overwhelming. Overall this resort was one of the best I've stayed at. I would absolutely recommend it to anyone who asks and I definitely plan on visiting again.

Bit of a let down

Time to go against the grain of most of these reviews. This place has both good and bad qualities. I'll start with the good: -Some staff are really friendly such as Jose at the beach grill & Wandy. - The grounds are kept exceptionally well even the little beach - Rooms are nice and ours happened to have a direct water view The not so good: - Majority of staff we encountered did not appear friendly and there was hardly any demonstration of gratitude when tipping - Multiple times the cleaning people are talking loud enough outside of our rooms to wake my wife and I. - Several times we requested items to be delivered to the room and some of these items were missing - The food is not great. There are some things that are good here like the grilled chicken and some meat from the Brazilian place but largely it's a miss on food. - In the Italian restaurant and the buffet there are so many fruit flies hovering around. In the buffet they are on the front half of the food. - Serving utensils at buffets are not designated so if you're allergic to seafood but love chicken and it happens to be right in front of the seafood, good luck guessing which of the two utensils to use. - Food is also not labeled properly. Example, there was a little empanada labeled "cheese." I bit into it and there was red meat in it (which I dont eat). - The "refrigerator" in your room is actually more like a cooler. It does not make your drinks cold just kind of cool. If you want an cold bottled drink in your room then you're SOL With all of that said, you have a nice pool and a nice small beach. This is a much smaller resort than you typically find which has its appeals and drawbacks. You'll notice shorter food hours which is notable for the buffet. Definitely nice that this is adults only as well. Long story short, between the food & the less than friendly staff I would not stay here again. This is my 4th Bahia and definitely my least favorite.

Beautiful experience!

Other than the lengthy ride that it took to get to the resort from the airport , our experience was amazing. We arrived to Luxury Bahia Principe to be greeted by friendly staff and we were served a drink immediately upon arrival. We were escorted to our room which was meticulous. Our view was breath-taking. The buffet had a great variety of foods to choose from. The only thing that could be improved, in my opinion, was the temperature of the food. There were times the food should have been warmer and the annoying gnats that swarm over the fresh fruit were a nuisance. Other than that, we have no complaints. The activities were always entertaining from yoga in the pool led by Joel, to reflexology given by Nadia and Yediera. The couple massage for my husband and myself given by those two young ladies was extremely relaxing. They are the best! We really loved hearing Anelisa"s greeting every day. She always had a smile on her face and made it a point to say "hola!" Needless to say, the staff makes you a priority and you feel pampered from the minute you walk through the door. We definitely give this place a two thumbs up and would love to visit again. P.S. If you plan on making reservations for any of the specialty restaurants, make sure you pack a pair of slacks and shoes (for the men). You will not be allowed to enter without them.
