Wonderful Hotel - great time

We stayed at the Luxury Bahia Principe Samana for 6 nights the end of June. The weather was good, cloud covered most of the time, but we were ok with that. The view from our room was amazing. Really beautiful. Food was good, drinks were good. The hotel itself was very nice. So good and bad - here we go Good: The food was good. Know this going in. Not all restaurants run every night. You need reservations to get into one of the sit down restaurants. We tried each one - and I probably liked the Brazilian the most. We messed up how to do the cards and were not being served tableside.... once I said something, we got served all we could eat. So, my suggestion is turn the card green even if you are not ready to start the skewers, once they see the card red they will not come back. The buffet was good, but it got old fast.... They do theme nights, but really it becomes almost all the same thing. Breakfast buffet was great. Drinks were good but plan on tipping each time you get served. We were a little confused on the tipping at an all-inclusive, but I think they come to expect a tip each time. Once we tipped, we got a bigger smile. Rooms were as advertised, clean and well kept. We did not see the butler but did not ask either. Bad - the front desk. Know this going in... English speaking customers are at a disadvantage. When we checked in and there was no one who could converse in English, we were a little concerned. Over the week our Spanish got pretty good. Try to speak their language - I think they appreciate it. Also, they are not the uptight, get-it-done-now Americans we are. Trying to hook up with the guy who was to arrange our return transfer to the airport became a huge hassle. Don't let that ruin your trip - they will get you back.... no worries. The Animation Team was great and the nightly shows were fun. We would love to go back (once our Spanish is a little more developed).

Just an incredible place

We are just back from an incredible week spent at the Luxury and what an incredible week it was! We loved every moment we spent there. The drive from the airport is approximately 75 minutes. We were greeted by a very enthusiastic staff that made the registration pleasant and quick. Very nice. We had a room with ocean view on the top floor. Room was large, with a very large bed, very comfortable. There is an area with sofa, table and 2 extra chairs making this a very cozy environment. The balcony is also a nice size with a table and 2 chairs and extra room. Probably the best room we had in a "all inclusive". The grounds are just spotless. It's clean from on end to the other thanks to an army of staff cleaning at every moment of the day. Food was awesome. The buffet offered so much variety that is becomes easy to over indulged because you want to try pretty much everything. The 3 "à la carte" restaurants were also awesome. The service is great and you can see the staff is well trained and attentive to your desire. My favorite was the brazilian restaurant, soooo goood!!! The beach is small but very clean. You can see the staff cleaning it up every morning. The water was great, clean and warm. The pool area was nice as well, although we did not go because why go to the Caribbean and sit by a pool all day... There are plenty of areas to soak in the sun rays, plenty of chairs by the pool, the deck, the ocean, no need to go out and "reserve" a lounger early in the morning. What made us choose this hotel was the fact that it is a small hotel, only 149 rooms, so we knew it would not be overcrowded. We enjoyed every moment spent there and the chance of us coming back in the near future is very high. Only negative points are: - outdoor jacuzzi was not working very well, only 2 jets in operation, which was disappointing. - in room jacuzzi was also problematic. When I started the jets, 2 nozzles shot out of their sockets. So did not use for the rest of the week, but hey! I had the ocean next door, so it wasn't so bad after all.

Excellent!

Beach was so great and beautiful, no crowd, lots of shadow and unbelievable crystal clear warm water in the sea. Lots of sea beds, beach bar was good too. Buffet food - the best ever! Lots of choice and everything was so tasty! Especially lobster dinner! Restaurants were good too. Don Pablo and Brazilian. We did not get in to Italian, it was closed...Never mind! Next time. Service - was just outstanding! Room bed was comfortable, room size was good - 40 m, AC was working fine. WiFi was good working and available even on the beach! The weather was NOT extremely hot - very nice warm air with some breeze (July!!) and was very comfortable for us. We would highly recommended this resort to couples or singles! Note: it is Adults only very small and quiet resort, no disco, no loud music, just to relax. And lots of stairs - be careful. Evening shows were probably good, but we did not go. I tried only MJ show and did not like it, left in 15 minutes. Sitting on the balcony, listening to the sea waves - it was perfect time for us before going to sleep. Thanks to all hotel staff and management. Our staying was just great! Can not wait to be back next year!

Anniversary Visit - GREAT decision

My wife and I spent our first wedding anniversary at Luxury Bahia Principe Samana in June/July of 2018. It was a wonderful time, and our first trip ever to the Dominican Republic. It was perfect for what we were looking for. It was luxurious and fun, you could hear the waves crash on the private beach if you opened your window (but that also cut off your a/c when you did that--which is completely reasonable). But it was also quiet and far away from all of the noise of a place like we imagined that Punta Cana would be. The staff put on a show every night that you could hear in your room until about midnight. We never actually went to any of the shows...we "accidentally" caught part of one that had been brought into the main building during rain, and it was fun and clever, but we weren't really there for the shows. We were there to just be with each other in a beautiful surrounding. The staff was enthusiastic and fun. We speak very little Spanish, we are still learning! So that presented an occasional challenge--but that speaks well for our hosts, and poorly for us! We did run into a staff member who we felt was a little frustrating and seemed unconcerned with helping us on something, but I think if we had spoken fluent Spanish, we would not have run into that issue. The few staff members we dealt with who did not speak fluent English tried very hard to accommodate us, and we very much appreciated their thoughtfulness. The first thing the hotel did for us was worked with us (i.e. Travelocity) when our airline's delayed flights created a necessity for shifting our entire schedule by a day. They also did a lot to make our anniversary trip feel special (make sure and tell them if you are celebrating something special on your trip). The hotel also always made sure we had bottled water, which we appreciated. Room service was always available (and we often had breakfast in our room). We were disappointed that we were unable to try all of the restaurants. We did not know that they would not be open on our last night there, and making the reservations was a little confusing and frustrating. But the front desk staff helped us get into two of them. Make sure and bring some nicer clothes to wear when you go to these. The buffet is always available, but the evening restaurants for which you make reservations were truly special, and they request that you dress a little nicer to come to those (I wore a polo or short sleeve button up with slacks and seemed to fit right in). We missed out on the Brazilian restaurant, but the other two (Don Pablo's and Bella Italia) were outstanding. Other minor issues: We tried to use the jets in our tub--but three or four of the six covers blew off when we turned them on! We also found the air conditioner to be a little weak--it didn't keep the room as cool as we generally like. It did work, and we were not uncomfortable, but we were a little warmer than we generally like. Also, it came as a surprise to us that you needed reservations for the daily shuttle ride to the boat that took you to the nearby island beach. We had asked about this shuttle several times in previous days, and the necessity of reservations was never mentioned. So when we arrived at the meeting place one morning just before the time the shuttle was supposed to leave (we were not late), we were asked "if we had made reservations," and that was the first we had heard about needing to do that. It ended up working out that we were able to go, but it was a genuine moment of frustration that I feel I should mention. But whatever other issue or question we had, I just had to dial "0" and it would get addressed promptly. And I only mention my complaints to keep an honest review--but I would strongly recommend this place to anyone. I've been to other all-inclusive resorts, and this was as good as or better than any others. The location was beautiful, I didn't feel a "need" to pay for anything extra--"all inclusive" really was enough to satisfy us (but they did have some nice extras that were available). The staff was fun, helpful and enthusiastic, and the hotel felt luxurious and relaxing. I would definitely return again, and it would be hard to convince me that a better place exists--especially for the money. (My wife and I chose this place because of reviews on this site and on Travelocity, and those reviews did not steer me wrong).

BEST vacation ever!

Absolutely gorgeous resort. Best staff, warm, helpful and most friendly ever. Best food here as well. I’ve been to 5 star hotels in Mexico numerous times and nothing compares to Samana. No one stands and waits for a tip like they do in Mexico. I never eat pork back home and yet ate a ton of it at the Brazilian restaurant, OMG the grilled pineapple was to die for. The sea bass was amazing as well as the lobster cannelloni. There was not one thing I didn't like here. There are mussels and shrimp every day as well as salmon, red snapper and mahi mahi. No other resort had this much fish daily. It is definitely worth coming here. The grounds are impeccable, as they’re always cleaning. The butler service is excellent too, I love the mango aroma. Every day staff walks around asking if everything is ok, do you need anything. The WiFi is perfect too. The shows at night are done extremely well. The Michael Jackson show is better here than any other hotel I've seen. Nell is amazing at climbing the tree and teaching everyone all about coconuts. Cheiny, Jennifer, Alex, Rolando, Felix, Pedro and the list goes on are the best staff I have encountered, and it is terrific how we still talk today. The bartender by the pool was the friendliest bartender ever! It truly is a wonderful place, and cannot wait to go back!!
