Excellent for families!

We travelled to this resort in November 2017. we are a family of 4. 2 Adults and 2 kids 5 and 3 years of age. Flight with Air Canada was ok. no meal on the flight. They pay the departure tax when you leave the Dominican Republic. The hotel is about 30 minutes away from the Airport which is great when travelling with kids. Upon arrival at the hotel there is a clown to entertain the kids and you are greeted with a warm face cloth and welcome cocktail. The kids get a welcome beverage too. This was a nice touch. Check in was relatively smooth. we were taken to our room with our bagages by a bell hop. He showed us to our room and brought all our bags in for us. For those of you that have travelled with young children...you know how nice this is! overall the check in and front desk/baggage service was excellent. The room was nice and spacious. However there was a musty odour when we walked in. Also the A/C stops when you open the patio door, when you close it, it should come back on but sometimes the draperies get in the way or you have to close it a little hard for it to work. The beds are a little bit hard. The kids received a small soap and toiletries kit which was cute. Overall the rooms are just ok because of the smell and seemingly weak A/C. the cleaning staff however was excellent, fresh towels and mini fridge re-stocked daily. They were also always very friendly. This resort is adjacent to the Grand Bahia Principe Esmerelda, Ambar Blue, Ambar Green, Turquesa, Punta Cana and Bavaro resorts. So it is part a huge resort with many restaurants. If you are staying at the Luxury Bahia Principe Fantasia you can eat at the a-la-carte restaurants of the other Bahia Principe hotels. But not at their buffets. You can reserve at the a-la-carte restaurants on their hotel app. There are trolleys that will take you around the different resorts. We never waited very long for them and the drivers will tell you what trolley to take to get to where you want to go. This is a nice feature because there are plenty of shops and playgrounds and even another waterpark for the kids to enjoy. The Fantasia water park is newer and has a better snack bar but it was nice to be able to try second one. The buffet was very good. It is located at the main building next to the lobby, We mainly ate breakfast and dinner there. The service was excellent. There are two omelette/egg stations in the morning and two grilling stations in the evening so it was not too long for us to have fresh eggs made or a piece of chicken grilled. The theme of the buffet changes every night. the overall variety of the dishes is decent as well. The Fantasia has a waterpark for the kids. The park itself is very nice. There is a section for younger kids and the main section for older kids, There are plenty of chairs around the park with umbrellas. There is also a snack bar/bar with a large shaded area and bathrooms. the food at the snack bar is nice, there are sandwiches, tortilla chips with cheese and popsicles for the kids. The service at the snack bar and bar where excellent. There is a cocktail of the day which was always really good. There is a basketball court and volleyball court right next to the water park. You can sign out a ball for these at the gym. There is a gym right next to the water park, It seemed very nice but I did not use it. There is the garden circus restaurant just a few steps away from the water park. It has a large covered terrace that you can use even if you are in your wet bathing suit (you have to wear a shirt). This is great because you don't have to go get the kids changed to grab lunch. The food is the same as it is at the buffet or close enough. Service was very good as well. The beach is a 5-10 minute walk from the water park area. You can walk or take the trolley. There is a section on the beach reserved for Fantasia guests. there are alot of chairs and palapas for shade and the bar service is ok. The beach itself is nice, the sans is soft. The water was a little bit rough while we were there but that is not the hotels fault obviously. There is a beach restaurant for Fantasia guests with attached restrooms. The food and service were both very good. There is a large pool at the hotel. One side is quiet and the other has music and animation staff. We preferred the side with animation. They had games, activities and balloons for the kids. There were nightly shows in the theatre next to the lobby. Usually one for the kids followed by one for the adults. The theatre is covered but it is outdoor so it was a litttle bit hot at times. The are tables around the theatre with bar service. They also have a show projected on the main castle at 10:00pm, a little late for the kids. There is a kids club but we did not use it as we preferred to stay outdoors at the water parks, beach and pools. The only part of this resort not up to a luxury hotel standard is the beach/pool towels. There are two huts on either side of the pool where you are supposed to be able to get clean towels. However they only had clean towels twice while we were there. I can understand you wont always have clean towels at all hours of the day, BUT when the girl at the hut is more interested in texting on her phone than helping me out or telling to come back later on I dont feel I am at a 5 star resort. Many of the people we met complained about the lack of clean towels. Luckily a person form the room cleaning staff named Juan saw that I was upset about the way the girl at the towel hut had talked to me, took me aside and found me some clean towels. Juan thank you for taking extra time for me and my family. Over all this place is very good! obviously this place is geared towrds families. I would give it 4.5 stars but I can't because of the A/C, musty smell in our room, hard bed and lack of clean towels.

Beautiful Hotel but lacks lots of service.

The Hotel itself is breathtaking; the castle is beautiful at night. The grounds around the hotel are kept clean. Wifi ( Wilfer), Yessica and Noel are thebest staff at this hotel. This is about the only positives I have to say. I checked in late 11:30pm my family and one other family. Carlos was at the reception and did not greet us when we came off the bus from the airport. Carlos continued to take non stop phone calls while we just stood there feeling stupid. Finally after 24 minutes! Yes 24 minutes. I will say it again 24 minutes he finally acknowledged us. It was like we were disturbing him. I know front desk check-ins must get very repetitive but in the south every check-in needs to be like a new birth...... Finally received keys no explanation about the hotel. Arrived in room and it smelled like a moldy damp basement. I tried calling reception but the phones only have a concierge button that never works. Extremely weird because what if there was a emergency. The number for reception is like 5 numbers and you have to write it down. First time I’ve never seen a hotel phone with no line for reception......I walked to the reception and asked would it be possible to change rooms. The answer was a crabby NO. So I stayed the week In the room. I sprayed the room with Lysol that I brought from home. I also sprayed the beds with downy that I brought from home to help with the smell. It smelled horrible all week. Even with the doors open or AC on. The corridors are so noisy every morning and night. You can here every single noise. I was stuck in a middle floor. Big mistake. If you come here ask for the third floor. I heard the noise of chairs from upstairs each and every day. Water running, kids yelling, running up and down the stairs, maids talking, carts rolling. Everything had a Eco. Absolutely no sleep!!! Bring lots of money for tips you will not get coffee or juice in the morning unless you want it when your breakfast is over. The waiters are running from one end to the other they have very weird sections. Instead of having there tables close together so they can watch them easier. They are scattered all over the place. But if you put money on the table you get extremely fast service. But you must pay for this. If you want really good service ask to sit with WIFI ( Wilfer) or NOEL they are the only waiters that I personally noticed that really enjoy there job and people. Also they do not expect tips and they gave great service to everyone. They are the only two waiters that gave exceptional service. A La Carte restaurant: you can never get reservations for. Even though the restaurant are all empty?? Lucky for me I reserved 2 weeks in advance but they still managed to only give me a few of the reservations that I asked for. If I wanted to eat at the others it was 9:45 pm. The only restaurant I would go to would be the Brazilian. The meat is good. But the service is not. The restaurants at this resort are nothing to write home about. I know you are on vacation time but every a la carte is about 3 hours long from the time you get seated. Very slow service! The kids can’t order off the menu they have a small buffet inside to choose from. The food is A touch higher quality than if you were in Cuba. I have read on here people saying the food is outstanding. Not sure where they were eating? For the price you pay at this hotel I would choose elsewhere. Royalton Hotel in Punta Cana is by far better. Service is outstanding at Royalton. Water park was shut down 3 days of the week I was here. They said someone had a accident in the pool. Yet no babies were in the pool and no one was sick????? I watched them to see if they actually cleaned anything and nothing was done. Personally I think it was just an excuse to have a 4 hour break. The water park is for kids below 8 years old. If your kid is too tall or big the lifeguard will say no. The bar beside the water park is good to get a drink fast. You will get good service there. Be careful of the food. Aunts were crawling inside the display case where there sandwiches were on display. I mentioned it to the sandwich guy but he didn’t seem to care. Absolutely no ambiance around the pool. At 3:00 the entertainment came to sing, the same two songs they sing with the kids all week. No local music or any music plays around the pool all day. Extremely quiet if that’s what you are looking for. Finally at 5:00 for one hour they play some music. That’s it; same thing all week. I’ve been to other hotels where the entertainment will dance, play games, sing, foam party in the pool, volleyball, ..,,, absolutely nothing it’s completely zero!!!!!!!! Three shows are good at the theatre: lion king, Michael Jackson, and the magic show. That’s it; the rest will put you to sleep. There is lots of chairs around the pool. The towels are a issue. If you don’t change them at 8:00am or 4:00 pm you will be stuck bringing smelly wet towels back to you room. I did have this happen for two straight days. Check your cutlery and dish-wear because they always have debris on them. Castle show is nice the first night....... same castle show every day. Internet connection is horrible no service unless you are in your room or main lobby. You can pay for high speed. In 2018 internet shouldn’t be an issue. Especially in Punta Cana it’s offered at other hotels that are older Construction and have no issues with there internet. Personally I think this hotel is over rated.

Amazing family vacation!

We travelled to this resort Dec. 31 - Jan. 7, two adults, two children (ages 6 and 9). We arrived late on New Years Eve night and check in was very quick and efficient, we arrived at the hotel at 11:30pm and made it to the poolside for the countdown, champagne and fireworks with minutes to spare! Our room was very comfortable and a fair size for the four of us with luggage storage and all. There was a slightly musty smell when we arrived but this is typical of the Caribbean. We had no issues with our room throughout the week and the housekeeping did a wonderful job including nightly turn down service. The pool and waterpark were a blast and where we spent most of our time. The kids LOVED having the freedom to go to the various bars and ask for milkshakes and snacks and the treats served poolside throughout the day was an extra bonus we were not expecting! I think my kids are still coming down from all of the sugar they took in that week! The a la cartes were lovely. We made reservations prior and all of our requests were fulfilled. The Japanese show table was our favourite followed by the Le Gourmet restaurant. The kids buffet at the gourmet restaurant was amazing. My daughter loved the crepe station and quail eggs! The breakfast and lunch buffets were of good quality. We preferred the main buffet for breakfast and then had lunch at the beach or in the Garden Circus. The resort was quite busy during our first couple of days but there were still always ample seating around the pool, in the buffets and at the water-park. As the week went on and the volume of people decreased we noted the service seemed to just get better and better! We had no issues with beach towels at all regardless of the time of day. We would highly recommend this resort to other families with children and would certainly consider a return visit! Thanks for a wonderful week Bahia staff!

There were 11 of us including a 5, 6, 11 and 14 year old. The water park is fine for the small ones but is much too tame for kids over 7. The main pool though is wonderful. Deep enough to swim but not intimidating for novice swimmers. Rooms were great and kept clean and stocked. The buffet always had a good selection of tasty food with lots of choice for the rugrats but it was buffet food. The steakhouse was okay but not outstanding. The gourmet had some fabulous dish presentations but don’t take the children. Overall we preferred the buffet. Best by far was breakfast at the Circus where Victor treated us like royalty. Good points: A great place for kids and quite nice for adults. Very good Spanish cava as the house “champagne “. Could improve: Put old fashioned chain locks on doors so small children don’t go wandering at night.(thank you security). Have children’s menus at the a la carte restaurants. Bad points: none
