Uncomfortable and Food Poisoned
MATTHEW V.
Jul 08 2017
This is nowhere 5 star resort. The beds are hard as rocks, the maids try to enter your room with the do not disturb sign on the door, and my wife had food poisoning and was very sick for 3 days. Way too man kids. Over 200 kids to be exact. Entertainment is awful. Overall this place ruined our honeymoon.

Bahia Esmerelda
RYAN G.
Jun 26 2017
Staff was great. It is a very large resort, but the Esmerelda property is closest to the beach. There is a tram that runs throughout on a regular basis if you want to go to restaurants on the other properties or to the village resort area. Only complaint is you have to get up early (630/7 am) to put towels down if you want a decent spot around the pools or beach. Not much the hotel can do about that. Overall we had a great time.

Too much noise
DEBORAH E.
Jun 17 2017
Our room was directly behind the stage...yes, directly behind the stage. the noise was terrible. There was no rest or relaxation, in our room, during the evening hours. I cannot believe they would consider giving people this room. We asked for a change but were told there was a room way in the back...long way from beach etc. No one was at all concerned about our discomfort. The staff did not care at all. It was as though giving us this room was a big joke to the staff.

The worst vacation that I have ever taken
JAMES T.
Jun 01 2017
When we first arrived they told us that our reservation was cancelled and they did not have our name in the system. We waited around for 3 hours in the lobby (Sweating as we had on long pants), Finally I had the ask for the manager that could barley could understand English or even speak it. One of the guest had to help me speak to them since they were fluent in Spanish and English. After fighting with them for another 45 mins we finally were able to get into a room & were told we would have to move the next day. (which I threw a huge stink over & they left us alone) "I even provided all our travel documents." The staff was not friendly what so ever & was always looking for a hand out, they would even wait by you with there hand out. The room was never restocked,(mini bar, towels, soap,ect..) drinks that we had the night before were not even thrown away. We had dirty sheets with blood stains on them one night and had to have the house keeping change them. Trying to get the house keeping to do any of that was not fun neither, they did not know any English. They even walked into our room one afternoon as we where changing getting ready for the pool after our room was already cleaned. The restaurants had you on a time limit even though it took them for ever to bring your food out (I did not finish one meal), they told us that we had to leave because the next reservation was about to arrive. I have never heard of that in my life it was horrible. The buffet would open at 12:30 and close @ 3:30 for lunch, if you arrived at 3:00 good luck getting drinks or even your plates picked up, plus the food was cold and they did not refill it. Pool bar & wait staff (No English) 2 persons the whole week. The one lady would walk around and try to refill your drink every 1.5 hours the bartender was so overwhelmed with all the orders. The beer was luke warm & hardly and ice if any in the mixed drinks, try and get a frozen drink was a joke they never had any ice. The beach was nasty with all the seaweed or what ever it was. They never handed us any information for anything going on in the resort, they had entertainment 1 night which was our last night. The Apple vacation guide was never around & when you did find him he was short with you and never really answered your questions, unless you wanted to book a trip with him ( he was way over priced & wanted cash). He even told us the wrong pick up time to catch our flight back.

TO TO TO MANY KIDS!!!!

Loved the Bahia Principae Esmeralda BUT.....to to to Way to many kids!! They were at the swim up bar in adult quieter pool. Fantasia behind our hotel is a child friendly hotel and they took over the beach and our pools. Disappointed but still had a great time. Food excellent!!! Will not be back unfortunately 😟. Entertainment fair. Bars extremely small seating 6 at some to 12 others could not ever get a seat to sit. Boring... had to sit with the other loud tables.

Resort overall was nice. Clean and spacious room. Beach was popular but beautiful. Entertainment was fun. Only disappointment was the food. We were unable to get in to many restaurants despite trying to make reservations our first day there. 2 of the 3 buffets we are at were not too good and room service took over an hour both times. Room service food options were also limited to not many options. Overall good experience with staff but the lack of good food would prevent us from going back

I am not sure I would return to this resort we traveled with 4 my husband and I were taken to our room and shown all the intricacies of the hotel room our son was left to search for his own room with no assistance he was a first time traveler. Most of the restaurant staff roamed around not quite sure of their role we often had to ask multiple times for water or coffee. The Apple rep was friendly but gave us inaccurate information he told us our excursion included a massage of 40 minutes it was 15 minutes, he told us that the Apple Welcome dinner was on the beach but failed to tell us that we needed to meet in the lobby to be shuttled to a beach destination much further from where we were staying. When we discovered this from the lobby manager this manager tried to get us a shuttle to the beach but the person driving the shuttle would not take us and there was a clear disagreement between the 2 men. My husband voiced a complaint and the lobby manager said he would provide us a complaint form no such form was ever provided. Apple booking complaint; while booking out trip the rep told us we would have to pay for our luggage and that we would not be able to take a carry on, everyone on this flight had a carry on which was upsetting because our luggage was also charged for being over 50lbs and had I been able to take a carry on like all the other passengers I would have saved the extra fees charged to me...very unhappy with Apple and the lack of pertinent information

A beautiful resort located about twenty minutes from the airport. Pools and beach are wonderful and very well maintained. The staff is out of this world, always friendly and eager to assist in any way. The food for the most part is the best of any all inclusive that I have stayed at.

Birthday Celebration in Punta Cana

Apr 12 2017
The resort overall was beautiful. I loved that we were able to move around from resort to resort and the trolleys were great. The food I think could have been better, a lot room temperature and some cold so didn't taste like it should have sometimes. There was a huge language barrier but overall the people were very nice and friendly. There was an issue getting face towels and getting our room cleaned before 3pm. With all of that, I would still return but now will have to go to Ambar Blue because Esmeralda is going to be family friendly in May. Beautiful beach also. Loved spending my 50th birthday there.

Mixed feelings

Arrived in resort the week after Hurricane Maria hit and although our travel agent saying it would be fine it was far from. The beach restaurant Arrecife was closed, the buffet restaurant Geranios was also closed which brings me to the main buffet restaurant. Food was cold and very often raw in the middle, very few staff wanted to offer coffee and water and on a couple of occasions no cutlery. The ceiling opposite the grill had a leak and was dripping so much they had to cease using the servery underneath it. Bar staff however were amazing, nothing was too much many thanks to Amauris, Grisel and Josefina. Meldy the butler went above and beyond to help nothing was too much trouble. Beware the privilege club staff in the lobby they try to dupe you into attending a time share meeting and when you don't go get very abusive (Coeffy was downright rude). During our second week the rooms on our corridor were being painted the fumes were horrendous. Beach was beautiful even though we were expecting loads of seaweed (from other reviews) it was minimal. An OKish trip made worse by myself getting gastroenteritis and my grandson contracting Dengue Fever and being hospitalised on return.

We just returned from 2 weeks at the Esmeralda and it is a good resort which lets itself down on a few things. Positives Great location - right by the beach and easy to get around to the other hotels Buffet - Generally good food and plenty of choice, staff worked hard (mostly) to get drinks to you quickly Restaurants - A la carte restaurants are good, especially the gourmet in Ambar Blue. Pools - two big pools which serve two different crowds, loud or quiet. Entertainment - nighttime entertainment is good at the hotel or at the main theatre, always something going on. Negatives Maintenance - We had a leak in our room coming from the air conditioning unit which was causing flooding on the floor. We reported this 3 times to the front desk, they sent a repair man three times. First had no impact, the second managed to stop it for a couple of days, the final attempt made it ten times worse and it poured down the wall all night. Front desk had no idea what to do other than send the repair man who blatantly couldn't fix it. They're understanding of English is generally poor so they either can't or don't want to understand what your problem is. Both of us picked up colds which I'm sure was linked to sleeping in these damp conditions. Management is nowhere to be seen when you ask for them. Buffet - quite often there were flies all over the buffet, especially the acerife beach buffet. More efforts need to be made to keep them away as its not hygenic. Minibar - this is restocked on an ad-hoc basis with a random selection. Sometimes no beers, sometimes two etc. Overall we had a good stay but not being able to deal with the leak in the room was really disappointing and made us ill. We paid a lot of money to come here so would expect problems like this to be dealt with easily. We would choose a newer resort next time as the rooms have had their day.

Fantastic !

Went to the Esmeralda for the second time as we went with our kids last year but as a couple now from Oct 7 till 14. Right after the passing of hurricanes Irma and Maria. No signs of damages what so ever. Let's just say that the news like to exagerate everything !! Resort and staff are excellent and always there to help. The grounds are amazing. Butler service is hard to get during peak hours (5pm to 7pm). I guess they just don't have enough staff during those hours to serve clients. Other than that, service is great. A la carte restaurants weren't so good this year, so you will eat just as well and even more at the buffet. Maids in the hallways should keep a little more quite in the morning as sleeping in is impossible. I don't mean till 10am as you are on vacation but 8am would be good.. So you will get disturbed at 7am :(

I loved this hotel. Just a couple of minor things would have made it a perfect 5. Food is always cold, but I didn't mind that. Beware Principe Gold inviting you to a meeting ... it's timeshare, and if you don't turn up, they hassle you every time you pass their desk. Beautiful pools, I have suggested they make the 'quiet' pool adults only.

The first day I arrived at Bahia Principe Esmeralda it was between lunch and dinner time. My husband, mom and I were so hungry. We were looking for the snack bar and it turns out because of the hurricane Maria they had closed it for renovations. We enter the Jazmin Restaurant and there was Andres (one of the head waiters) with a huge smile on his face and asked us if we needed help. When we told him he immediately sat us down at one of the tables, called Yefrey (another waiter) and gave us a menu and told us whatever we wanted they would make for us. That right there says a lot. We were treated with respect, kindness and we felt right at home. I also want to mentioned Kelvin, Charly, and Jhon. They treated us so well. I'm diffidently considering going back. The pools, shows and the beach out of this world.
