Return visit was better than the last
Feb 15 2019
This was our third visit to the Ambar and we will be back. We loved the renovation of the Ambar and the walk out pool in building 70. The grounds were beautifully maintained and the beach is FANTASTIC...Thanks to Delvis for taking care of us and Megel was very entertaining.

A very outstanding facility inside and out. We were extremely pleased with everything associated with this place. We have been on 13 cruises and several years ago went to another all inclusive. We did not like the previous experiences with the all inclusive 10 years ago. Decided then we would never go to an all inclusive again. Our travel group wanted to try this Ambar all inclusive and we reluctantly agreed. The moment we arrived on site we knew we were going to love this place. Now after spending a week here we are planning to return to the same place next year! This has become our new destination and I have no problems passing on ship cruises in the future!!

The Luxury Bahia Principe Ambar (adults only) is fantastic! The staff are so friendly and helpful. Everything you need is within an easy walking distance. If you want to visit other parts of the resort, there is a trolley available if you don't want to walk. Our group did a lobby bar trolley crawl one night and it was fun and easy to do. Our group (of 8) plans on coming back again next year.

Excellent Views, Clean Beaches and Resort

Ambar Blue Resort is on the beach and definitely nice to have the beach close to the hotel. I highly recommend this resort, very relaxing and adult only. There are other resorts on the property that you can visit, but this Ambar Blue allows no children. We had a great experience.

Bahia Principe Resort review
May 30 2018
We stayed in the Ambar Blue section of the resort. My first issue is that I picked an "adult only" resort, unfortunately, not ever part of this resort is adult only, and we were never told that. The room was clean, but dated. It was obviously in need of repairs. The air conditioner didn't work well, and we had to have the temperature set to the lowest level for any relief, and it wasn't much. We had issues with the power going out and sat in the dark for two hours before someone helped us. I had gone to the front desk to ask for assistance, I was told they would send someone to our room, and never did. When I was leaving for the 2nd time, an employee was walking past our room, I stopped them and they assisted us. The beach was so covered with seaweed that we only went once when we first got there, and never bothered to go again. We just stayed by the pool. We would have liked to spend time in the pool in the evenings, but it closes at 7pm. The bar staff was friendly until they realized that we weren't tipping above what is supposed to be included in the cost of the trip, then they would forget to make the drinks properly. We chose to eat at the buffet most of the time, but there were flies all over the place and the food was often overcooked. The pool was huge, beautiful, and one of the few places that were adult only.

The hotel was beautiful, but our room needed a lot of repairs. The AC didn't work well, the power went out a few times (once for two hours without assistance despite my going to the front desk for help). We had to have the temperature set to the lowest setting, and it was still very warm in the room. After the people in the room next to ours checked out, it sounded like the employees were remodeling the room in the middle of the day, while we were trying to relax from being at the pool. The food at the buffet was often overcooked, and there were flies around us while we were trying to eat.

Don't stay here
May 10 2018
The food is terrible quality... I lost weight in an all inclusive resort, who does that? The cocktails were very inconsistent. The rooms have only 4 outlets total and the mattress was worn out. Pillows very small too... Air conditioning was weak. I would never stay at this resort again based on the food quality alone!

Two Issues
Apr 29 2018
Overall, very good experience. Two issues; The zip lining excursion information at the Apple desk in the hotel was outdated. As a result, one of the activities was no longer available, and we had to make a quick decision on the available activities - which turned out to be below average. The second issue was poor communication regarding the departure transfer. As a result, we almost missed out airport transportation.

We were very disappointed with the resort. They have expanded the size of the resort greatly, but the size of the beach can't expand, so the beach is too crowded to enjoy. There aren't enough staff for the size of the resort or the number of guests, and only a few speak any English. The pool bar staff was terrible, as was the liquor...all second rate and watered down. The buffets were the only decent food, so don't bother making reservations. The rooms were large and pretty, but we came home with a dozen huge bug bites, the A/C never worked right, and three days we had a cold shower. Our rooms didn't get cleaned till late afternoon. We won't be returning and we won't recommend this resort.

Would give it 4.5 if I could

Can’t speak to what it was but I can say that it is a nice resort. Staff bend over backwards to make sure you have a great time. They don’t always get it right but if you let them know they will do whatever they can to make sure you are happy. Food at most restaurants is very good. It seems as if they try too hard to be creative and original and sometimes it borders on the strange but it is never bad. Not a five star resort but a five star attempt to serve, usually successfully. Some of the issues with room air conditioning and the like are usually user error. The thermostats can be fussy and often revert back to a pre programmed mode. Again ask! They will make it right. They are in the business of pleasing people and they try very hard to do so. Beds are hard and again if you need a little extra softness let them know. My brother in law who is here also mentioned it to the butler and that night they had a topper on the bed. Problem solved. Plenty of loungers both at the pool and the beach all day long. I am still here, so time for what I am confident will be another great dinner. I think we will be back again in the future.

I visited Bahia Principe in Punta Cana for my 6th time and I enjoy myself more and more each time I come! This was my first time in Ambar and it exceeded my expectations! We were greeted by Horam, the Guest Services Manager, when we arrived and he made us feel welcome and special. He ensured that we had a room with 2 beds, which was important to us, and he was able to reserve our a la cartes. Horam was amazing our whole trip, checking in with us regularly, and making sure my friend’s birthday was special! We were spoiled! Our room was cleaned well every day and our fridge refilled. We really had fun with the animation team… and appreciated all the work they did to entertain us, day and night. We enjoyed our daily aqua fit classes, Spanish lessons, dancing lessons, history of Mama Juana class, foam party.. and nightly activities. Special shout out to Welkin, Jose, Walter and Marcelo!! You guys were amazing! The food and service was delicious no matter if we were at La Brisa for breakfast or lunch, or the main buffet or a la carte restaurants for supper. Samuel at La Brisa and Manuel at M.E.A.T were favorites of ours. Special thanks to Omar at the pool bar for always making smile and pouring some great drinks!! 10/10 trip… can’t wait to come back!!

This was our first time in the DR, and the Caribbean so did not know wht to expect. We stayed for 10 nights and had a really lovely time at the Ambar, which is adults only, and part of a much larger complex. The location of the Amber is nearest to the beach (which is amazing) and is exclusive to Amber guests only. We had read the reviews before we went and were a little concerned by some comments, but we really didn't need to worry. I guess there is no pleasing everyone though! The rooms are spacious with 2 double beds in each, which yes are a little firmer that I'm used to, but I never had any problem sleeping. Each block is 3 storeys and has the services of a concierge if needed who can arrange most things for you. We only used ours on a couple of occassions, once to sort out a problem with our balcony door (which was attended to immediately) and again to book a meal at the a la carte restaurants. We were in room 66202 which is on the middle floor and did not have any problems with noise either above or below us. The ground floor rooms are 'swim up' rooms. The maid service was excellent, if a little hit and miss with the towels/bath mats/face cloths/mini bar, but I think that is because there is one maid who cleans and takes away the used towels etc, which are then replaced at a different time by another person. But this wasn't a problem as it was easy enough to get replacements when needed. The food in the main buffet restaurants was good, lots of choice, and different themes each day. Also loved the coctail of the day which was based around the theme. We tended to eat at the beach buffet for breakfast and lunch which was lovely, and the staff were always very helpful. My only, very small, personal gripe would be the ability to get tea with milk, but I guess this is a british thing. I did manage it but it could have been easier. We did eat at 3 of the a la carte restaurants, the brazillian was our favourite, the waiter making the coctails at the table was just amazing and deserves a mention for his 'performance'. The food was amazing to. MEAT was also good, but we weren't so impressed with Portofino which is one of the two italian restaurants - the service was not good and the staff seemed to be getting the orders wrong a lot (not just for us) The pool area and beach are amazing and we never had any issues with being served drinks, although a lot of the time we were happy to take a little stroll to bar ourselves. The staff work really hard and do an amazing job and it cannot be easy remebering what is for who, especially when they get people shouting them over to order when they are clearly carrying a tray of drinks for someone elses order! But I guess some people are impatient. Overall we had a truly relaxing time, and if we ever go back to the Domincan Republic we would definitely not hesitate to go back to the Amber.
