Excellent Views, Clean Beaches and Resort
Nov 27 2018
Ambar Blue Resort is on the beach and definitely nice to have the beach close to the hotel. I highly recommend this resort, very relaxing and adult only. There are other resorts on the property that you can visit, but this Ambar Blue allows no children. We had a great experience.

Bahia Principe Resort review
May 30 2018
We stayed in the Ambar Blue section of the resort. My first issue is that I picked an "adult only" resort, unfortunately, not ever part of this resort is adult only, and we were never told that. The room was clean, but dated. It was obviously in need of repairs. The air conditioner didn't work well, and we had to have the temperature set to the lowest level for any relief, and it wasn't much. We had issues with the power going out and sat in the dark for two hours before someone helped us. I had gone to the front desk to ask for assistance, I was told they would send someone to our room, and never did. When I was leaving for the 2nd time, an employee was walking past our room, I stopped them and they assisted us. The beach was so covered with seaweed that we only went once when we first got there, and never bothered to go again. We just stayed by the pool. We would have liked to spend time in the pool in the evenings, but it closes at 7pm. The bar staff was friendly until they realized that we weren't tipping above what is supposed to be included in the cost of the trip, then they would forget to make the drinks properly. We chose to eat at the buffet most of the time, but there were flies all over the place and the food was often overcooked. The pool was huge, beautiful, and one of the few places that were adult only.

The hotel was beautiful, but our room needed a lot of repairs. The AC didn't work well, the power went out a few times (once for two hours without assistance despite my going to the front desk for help). We had to have the temperature set to the lowest setting, and it was still very warm in the room. After the people in the room next to ours checked out, it sounded like the employees were remodeling the room in the middle of the day, while we were trying to relax from being at the pool. The food at the buffet was often overcooked, and there were flies around us while we were trying to eat.

Don't stay here
May 10 2018
The food is terrible quality... I lost weight in an all inclusive resort, who does that? The cocktails were very inconsistent. The rooms have only 4 outlets total and the mattress was worn out. Pillows very small too... Air conditioning was weak. I would never stay at this resort again based on the food quality alone!

Two Issues
Apr 29 2018
Overall, very good experience. Two issues; The zip lining excursion information at the Apple desk in the hotel was outdated. As a result, one of the activities was no longer available, and we had to make a quick decision on the available activities - which turned out to be below average. The second issue was poor communication regarding the departure transfer. As a result, we almost missed out airport transportation.

We were very disappointed with the resort. They have expanded the size of the resort greatly, but the size of the beach can't expand, so the beach is too crowded to enjoy. There aren't enough staff for the size of the resort or the number of guests, and only a few speak any English. The pool bar staff was terrible, as was the liquor...all second rate and watered down. The buffets were the only decent food, so don't bother making reservations. The rooms were large and pretty, but we came home with a dozen huge bug bites, the A/C never worked right, and three days we had a cold shower. Our rooms didn't get cleaned till late afternoon. We won't be returning and we won't recommend this resort.

Traveled with 2 other couples, our room was not ready and another couple had double beds instead of a king. It took over an hour to change their room. Apple made reservations for us at the hotel restaurants. They were not all at the same time. When we went to guest services to correct, we were told all restaurants were full and could not get reservations changed until 8pm or after. Guest services advised since we were in the adult only section, we could not eat at the other resort buffets. We did anyway. Went on 3 excursions that we booked through Apple on site and had no problems. I would go back but not sure if I would pay the extra for the adult only section. The only perk was it was closest to the beach for walking.

This was our second time at this resort. We had a wonderful time. Food, cleanliness, service was wonderful. The beach and ocean were spectacular. Hiraim the Apple representative was amazing. He made you feel like you were family and handled all questions or issues you may have had. I am hoping we can return next year.

exceeded our expectations
Apr 07 2018
This was one of the best all inclusive experiences we have had of about a dozen all inclusive vacations. The beach is gorgeous and is probably the cleanest compared to any resorts we saw on our beach walks. Food overall was decent but some of the a la carte restaurants were exceptional. Because the Ambar Blue is part a large resort complex you can explore and find all kinds of entertainment to suit your taste. Staff is super friendly and positive and they aim to please, we loved the butler service. We were sad to leave.

Hotel staff seemed to have the "right of way" . They parked cleaning carts in the middle of a busy walkway so guests had to walk around them. Staff would not cede the right of way for the guests. Seems like the staff was intimidated on Monday morning when management returned to the property. Someone was always trying to sell something to me. Did not like the experience and by the middle of our stay, we were forced to avoid the lobby in fear of being asked to buy something or commit to a sales talk.

Nice place with tricky transfer
Сергей М,

We stayed with my wife 14 nights starting November, 18. The hotel was fully renovated. All photos placed on site of hotel are true - room was very beautiful, public areas are clean and pretty and staff is very affable, polity and helpful. Check in and check out is OK. A la carte restaurants are pretty too, meal is nice. BUT! Don't trust to their COMING2 travel service and free transfer! They have a desk in airport for free transfer. That's OK because they give you proposals of their tours and they interested to invite you. But they seriously deceived us on the return transfer - they promised to provide a car on the way to airport and did not do it. As a result we needed to take a taxi after 45 minutes delay. Tricky service COMING2!

Date of stay was November 20th until November 28th. This is a second trip to this resort having been here in 2010. First impressions is the amount of change to Punta Cana over those 8 years. Lots of infrastructure improvements but lots of new hotels. Gone is the long walks of solitude on the beach. Speaking of the beach a lot of erosion has taken place. Some hotels to the north of us building sea walls. We included a 2010 picture of the beach in our photos so you can contrast the change. No evidence of any active reclaiming of sand via bladder bags as we have seen done in Mexico. This resorts location causes quite a bit of the Sargassum (seaweed) problem to wash up on the beach. The resort is diligent in their efforts to remove it. Resort refurbishment is well done. We had room 205 in building 62. Although we were 5 times returning guests to this chain no upgrade offered. There is no differentiation offered to returning guests on a vacation bought from a travel agent. They appear to have a loyalty program for those whom buy their holiday directly. They have a timeshare like product called “privileged club” we are not interested in. Room was OK. Good safe height and lighting in closet. We had to have mattress topper installed as mattress too firm. Good shower, hot water, rain head and hand wand, no bench. Good selection of toiletries provided replenished daily. We had excellent room housekeeping all days (Thank-you Mariegross!!). Improvements to room would include (1) fan control of overhead fan - it’s high speed or nothing). (2) a clock radio (3) no towel racks (4) TV channel guide surfing to find anything was frustrating. None of the restaurants food wowed us like this hotel did back in 2010. In fact this hotel had two of the below benchmarks for a long time before they were beat. Palmera buffet. Just average food and very slow on the wine service at dinner. Now only serving one type of red table wine that is drinkable but not memorable. Best al la carte restaurant for us was M.E.A.T. where we ate twice. We sat outside for dinner on patio with good view out towards ocean. Make sure to ask for Samuel and Edwin as your servers they were excellent. New coffee shop gets top marks. Sports Bar gets minimum marks due to the fact it only opens at 4:00pm even on weekends. They are on different satellite service then hotel. It is FOX centric so no ESPN or TSN. Could not watch the Grey Cup or any hockey. Food served at sports bar is limited but on par with sports bars everywhere. It’s busy time of year so you have to get to the beach/pool early and reserve your spot. All the “best” spots gone by 8:00am. They have signs saying no empty reserving of seats but there is no policing of that policy. Also it’s crowded so you will find no tranquility spots like the Grand Bahia Sian Kaan (Akumal) pools have. Constant beat of music at the pool which is great if that is what you are looking for. We paid $2,861 with airfare r/t Miami included for an 8 night stay with Expedia transfers included. Expedia local expert was very good handling the transfer. We were out of the airport 8 minutes after we walked out the door. Tips: 1. bring an extra beach towel if you like having two. Only one per person here on a card system. 2. Bring your own double insulated beverage container. Drinks here served in small highball glasses with no straws. 3. Plastic suction cup hooks to put in your shower for wet beach/pool stuff. Our Benchmarks Best Walking Beach (solitude): Marquis Cabo San Lucas (2017) Best Pool (solitude): Gran Bahia Sian Kaan (2016) Best Buffet: Gran Bahia Sian Kaan (2016) Best Al La Carte: Butches Sandals Grenada (2015) Best Diving: Sandals Negril (2014)

My husband brought this holiday for my special birthday. Day one we were unable to get into the room. Eventually we had the initial wow factor and was pleased with what we saw. What we didn’t see was that the electric sockets were not working and the plumbing to the sink was rubbish. The bathroom area flooded. The electric sockets were irreparable so following several trips to reception we were moved. My birthday passed without any recognition (many rooms had balloons etcetera on their day). The hotel had been informed and had confirmed the relevance of our holiday. We got to our new room the next day and the door was being repaired. The safe had also failed so we were unable to go out until they were repaired. We had one day where nothing went wrong but then the television failed and there was no phone. The actual grounds, pool and beach area are really lovely, as are the themed restaurant buildings, trouble is the food is lacking. Avoid the french restaurant. The food is not french. Goodness knows what it purports to be. We went to the barbecue restaurant. The food was burnt and only lukwarm. Our last night we went for the second time to the meat restaurant. The steak was a mass of fat and sinew and was inedible. The staff at the hotel were lovely, both friendly and warm with a wonderful sense of fun. The hours the staff work are unbelievably long but they always have a smile. Francesco is one in a million. With all the problems we had he bent over backwards to be helpful and couldn’t do enough for us. With his command of English he should be working in reception as he seems to be more conversant than the chaps in the foyer. We have been to this group of hotels on many occasions but this trip has really made us think again whether we will go with Bahia principe again

Again, excellent!

We stayed here 4 years ago and had a great time, now it’s even better! Totally renovated, the rooms and public spaces are beautiful, clean and with an elegant look. The food is good and the new restaurants are very nice although the air conditioning is freezing most of the times. What really stood out was the fact that Bahia Principe was the only beach area which was clean from the sea weeds, we took a walk on the beach and the other hotels beach areas were not cleaned. That was amazing! Staff is very friendly and helpful. Of course some stood out from the crowd for us: a special thanks to Lucas and Patricia from the beach, Jackeline from entertainment, Roberto, Salvador and Miguel from Brisas and Portofino and Kenia from the Las Brisas Grill, thank you for your smile, kindness and excellent service. We will return some day again :-)

Check in good, the room poorly designed, the swim out was a waste of money, the staff were very good but not any better than a hundred other hotels, its their job, we dropped over $550 in tips to the staff and that is normal for us at resorts, we have been to many and we do the same. The limbo is the only one where men have to wear long pants, all the other's shorts are fine. The food is not all that great at the ala carte's except for Maiko tapnyaki that was very good. We had a good time but it is not a 5 star and their alternatives for a better price . People told us they have been there 5 and 6 times, why I wonder when there are so many to go to. The Royalton hotels are much better, The La romana Buganville is much better. sorry for this review but we did expect more for the price, stayed two weeks 15th to 29th November.
