This Bahia complex includes 4 hotels: Coba, Tulum, Luxury Sian Kan and Luxury Akumal. Having spent 3 weeks at the Coba in May and Sept. 2017 we were anxious to try the Luxury Akumal. Booking at the Coba gave us access to the Tulum and opting for the Royal Golden upgrade gave us 4 a la carte suppers instead of 3.(plus other extras of course). The Akumal cost about 120$/pers. more but gave access to all 4 hotels as well as unlimited a la carte dining. The Akumal is situated waterfront which is one of the reasons we were attracted to it. The seaweed problem present at so many hotels has forced the Akumal to use barriers to limit the approach of the seaweed. Unfortunately, you don't really feel like you're swimming in the ocean but more like an artificial bay. The hotel cannot be faulted for Mother Nature's assault on the beaches and is dealing with this problem adequately. My wife and I are really pool people and were more than satisfied with the selection of clean. well-maintained pools at the Akumal, our favorite being the infinity pool where the view and the service were impeccable. A lunch buffet is situated right beside the pool so you can eat and return to your loungers in a timely fashion and not appear to be reserving chairs for a long period. What satisfies us most when we select a hotel is the absence of negative surprises. At the Akumal (like at the Coba) you get what was promised. You will not run out of hot water. The AC will function well. They will not run out of beer or pasta or napkins or clean towels or soap. They will not forget to clean your room. etc. I will not go on extensively about the food: it's great. Variety, taste, quality........YES! One suggestion I MUST make is that you eat at least once at the Don Pablo and Gourmet restaurants. The waterfront seafood restaurant (can't remember the name) is also an excellent choice. Lodging, food, cleanliness, service. You'll find it all at the Luxury Bahia Principe Akumal Don Pablo Collection. .

We stayed at the Bahia for the last week in August and first week in September. We had a great time. The complex is ideally situated for visiting local attractions such as the under water caves, Turtle beach, Tulum ruins and the waterpark isn’t too far away either. The hotel is made up of three resorts, Coba, Tulum and Akumal (across the bridge on the other side of the road is the golf resort) and you are free to dine and visit any of them. We were greeted with a well-needed drink and flannel and didn’t have to queue for long until we were taken to our room. Our room did have a bit of damp smell when we arrived, I had expected this and bought nice smelling tea lites with me. Our first couple of nights were quite hot and we realised that our air-con wasn’t working properly. We mentioned this to the front desk who immediately sent somebody to fix it. Straight away we had lovely cool air and a cool room and the damp smell was gone. Room was a great size, we had two double beds pushed together which made the bed huge, no duvet wars lol! Rooms have tea and coffee making facilities as well as a mini fridge which is filled each day. There is a beach area which is perfect for paddling and for little ones. I couldn’t believe how warm the sea was and it was great to fish. The team work so hard to ensure that the seaweed is cleared and they do a great job, working relentlessly so that the sea and sand is clear. The transport services around each of the resorts is fabulous. You never have to wait more than about 10 mins for a cart train and there are multiple stops along each of the routes. We pretty much stayed in the pools in the Akumal resort however one day we went to Coba for the splash park for our son which he loved. That day the pool had to be shut as a child had poo’d, why parents can’t put swim nappies on their children I don’t know. The food was excellent and the variety was great. You would have to be a really fussy eater to not find anything that you liked. I particularly liked the breakfast with omelettes cooked to order and fresh juices made. You can book any of the restaurants to eat in and they provide a children’s menu. We loved the seafood one. The only negative is that sometimes the food in the buffet area was luke warm which was such a shame as the food tasted great. The gym in Akumal is fairly small and quite hot. It would be great if the air con could be cooler in there however I managed to have a good workout. There are no small weights which is a shame if you are not looking to bulk out!! One morning I went for a 10 km run round the resorts and it was great to get my bearings. There is no where to hang your washing on the balcony (I like to wash my gym gear daily!) but luckily I had bought some string and pegs with me which proved invaluable. Make sure you bring your mossie repellent with you. We were worried about the weather, being hurricane and rainy season, however we only had one thunderstorm. Most times it was too hot! I did find it difficult to find shade for my little boy around the pool in the afternoon, one day we had to keep moving his sun bed around the shade of a tree. My favourite part of the resort was the abundance of wildlife. We loved seeing the various animals around the resort. I would definitely return and am looking to book to come back next year.

We stayed in the Siam Kaan hotel and visited here daily as it was close to the beach. The food was excellent along with the staff, couldn't fault anything. Cannot comment on the rooms, but after talking to others who where staying here sounds very similar to our hotel.....Excellent!

Good Hotel But Not Great

We just got back from a 14 day vacation at this hotel. It's good and almost a 4 star, but too many things drag it down to a 3 star. Let me start by saying the staff is the saving grace and do an excellent job! Are you sitting comfortably, then we'll begin. The Room 8016 was dated and needed updating. There was dead bugs smeared on the walls and mosquito netting. The glass sliding door hadn't been cleaned and had snot on it. The air conditioning started off strong but noisy. And by the end had problems and we had to call maintenance twice with no fix. The tv screen went dark if left on too long. And as usual, there isn't enough english speaking channels. The mini fridge wasn't very cold. The Food was pretty good with good variety. But the cooks obviously don't sample the food because most vegetables were hard and barely cooked. But overall, the presentation was good. The Music. This was super annoying as they played the exact same music everyday in the restaurants and the Adults Only Pool. It was actually painful by day 3. You wouldn't serve the same food everyday, so why play the same music everyday?? This is really bad management and could easily be fixed but hadn't. Someone should lose their job for this. The Bars/Drinks. The drinks are ok but the cups/glasses taste like soap.. Nothing special. Average beer and spirits. The beaches are full of seaweed. But the pool areas are clean. Overall the resort is ok, but management could do a better job. I'm not sure we would go back.

Best holiday I’ve ever been on

I stayed in this resort over Christmas and it was possibly the best holiday I have ever been on. The resort was beautiful, staff so helpful and friendly, good choice of food at the buffet houses, many different restaurants to pick from. The gourmet and teppanyaki are by far the best. There is so much in the resort that you don’t even need to leave! They have private beaches, pools, bars, adults only, water park area and a hacienda. We were there over New Years, we went for a lovely meal and then went to the hacienda for the party. The entertainment was good to watch and I enjoyed it a lot. I wouldn’t even think twice to recommend this place. It’s a beautiful holiday for anyone!
