I have nothing but praise for this Hotel and all the staff. Check in was fast and friendly and well organised. My room was perfect for me, a nice size and great location Room was kept spotless every single day, a safe is offered free of charge as is the mini fridge which was topped up daily ~ this can always be re topped up or items exchanged at any time. The housekeeper kept my room spotless. The food is absolutely Amazing and of what I consider a high standard. Huge choice of meats, cheeses, vegetables and desserts - you will not go without- Restaurants, although busy were well run, staff very efficient and polite. All the foods were topped up constantly - you will never go hungry here either in the buffets or al a cartes The pools are amazing - plenty of sun beds although in high season I’m not sure how this would fare - I have stayed Here before and also Coba and never seen a problem with beds although this may be different in school holiday time. The beach is amazing-yes some seaweed is drawn in but this is quickly removed in the wheel barrows. The shows were on each night - plenty of entertainment both day and night. Usually I stay at the Sandos hotels but fancied a change. I cannot say which I prefer as both are of height standards but I will be back here that’s for sure To end this a huge shout out to reception staff, housekeepers, waiting staff, Gardner’s,pool guys because you are all lovely and hard working. I will definitely stay here again.

Another amazing holiday at Akumel

This hotel really is special. The buffet is fantastic and the A La Carte restaurants give you a taste of the high life!! The hotel grounds are beautifully maintained and the staff are consistently hard working and cheerful. Nothing is too much trouble for them. This year we wondered if there had been some cost cutting as regards the number of staff in the main dining room, and there seemed to be less of the golf buggy buses running around the complex. We hope this won't continue as it will gradually impact on we, the customers.

Ok...our first time at Bahia Principe Akumal, and it won't be the last! To start with the only complaint that I have is check-in needs improvement. We arrived at 11:00 PM and only one clerk was working the front desk which in istelf was not a problem....the problem came after. He told us that a bellboy would be right up to take us to our room.....well 45 minutes later, we were still waiting. This was not a good start for me, but then came George who saved the day for them....he was on his way home and decided to take us to our rooms...not only did he take us to our rooms, nut also waited outside to take us to the 24 hour snack bar so we could get something to eat...Well done George!! The resort in itself is spectacular, it is beautiful and immaculate. The staff work extremely hard at maintaining the grounds, and I must say they do a great job. The resort is also 4 resorts in 1....Sian Kaan, Tulum, Coba and Akumal. It is VERY large, but there are carts that are always around to take you everywhere you could want to go. The food was great, we had the a-la-carte at 3 different places....Japanese, Gourmet, Italian, the service at all was above par and the food was very enjoyable. Although the A-la-carte was good I was quite happy at the buffet, there were never any long lines and the food choices were amazing, and very tasty. There was always LOTS of food, certainly wasn't going to be loosing any weight!! The rooms are very clean and well maintained. As this was my first time in Mexico I wasn't sure what to expect for the beach, I am use to the beaches in Cuba, so from that perspective it was a little disappointing. I would rate the beaches in Cuba a 10, and the beaches in Mexico a 4, but the pool more than made up for it. The pool winds throughout the resort so you can always find somewhere and umbrellas are always available. The best of all....The Staff, they couldn't be more pleasant or helpful, anything you asked they answered with a smile. Our waitress Neyfi at the buffet is a delite, always smiling and ready, after the first day she knew exactly what we wanted before we could even order and most times tea, coffee or Mimosa's were at the table as soon as we sat down. Edwardo at the lobby bar during the day...Fantastic!! Saul at the pool bar again great! and my favorite of all...our buttler Rosy, she is a professional, was was kind, pleasant and always wanting to do something special to make your stay even better. I could go on and on, but lets just say i would absolutely recommend this resort to my friends, I will be back again!!

Returned to the Akumal, this time for 10 nights. The resort appeared to be only half full (late Jan 2019) so getting prime locations on the beach or at the pools was easy. We were able to book a la carte restaurants for 9 of our dinners at Akumal, Coba, Sian Ka'an and Tulum resorts. All were excellent. Maiko and Alux at Sian Ka'an and Mashua at Coba stand out. Both Mexican restaurants, Cozumal at Coba and Tequila at Tulum and fun with mariachi bands at both. The main buffet serves breakfast, lunch and dinner with more than enough variety for any taste. Simpler breakfast and lunch buffets were also served at Los Corales in the adult section of Akumal. Transportation between resorts was fast and convenient. Our room in Villa 65 was good, quiet AC, TV with a few English channels. Ensure that there is a screen door to the balcony so that you can leave the door open at night, some rooms were not so equipped. Be sure to try the cocktail of the day in the main bar at each of the resorts. In summary, it is difficult to expect more from an all-inclusive resort, they make an extraordinary effort to please all of their guests.
