Golf Course is Terrible!

Just got back from Loreto and played this course once. The picture shown on this site is very deceiving of the golf course. These are the only nice holes. The pro shop is a joke, restrooms on the course are disgusting, front nine is a goat ranch with grass and weeds (which also are in the bunkers along with rocks), the cart paths are dirt/dust which covered us and golf equipment and the cart was about ready for the junk yard. Worst $160 (2 people/low season?) I have ever spent for a round of golf. Love the town of Loreto, but will never ever play golf here again.

May visit

pretty funny really, it is low season, but staff seems very reluctant to serve, at pool they just look at you, and you have to go over and order/get you own drinks, in the breakfast place, we watched the cashier supporting a pen between the cash register and her forehead. we had picked a room with balcony if that's what you call it, the 1st room had a funky odor but had balcony, got moved, the 2nd room the ac did not work and had balcony, the 3rd room was fine except no balcony and the windows were filthy with grime and bird poop. we just cracked up, golf course was cool, will probably stay in town next time as its 20 bucks each way, overall was ok an experience as long as you do not expect much. just have to make the best and chuckle.

Stayed there 2 times a year, for the last 8 years. So very strange no one mentions the warm, hot tub. It has never been hot. Hot is at least 100 degrees Celsius. Theirs is 92, at best. The hotel has always been our favorite, for it's atmosphere and views. Great rooms. The breakfast staff are excellent. Good food through out the place. But, say, didn't anyone notice that there is no service at the pool at all. none. If u swim up to the bar, yes, there is service. Most people had to wave and some yelled for service. The strangest thing I've ever seen, was a customer, bringing their dirty dishes, glasses etc. back to the staff and tipping them. The staff at the pool routinely ignore the needs of the people, around the pool. The staff have trained the customers to bring their soiled dishes and glasses back. I watched this happen on a lot of occasions. Could not believe what I was seeing. Work to rule is the order of the day, around the pool. It was not like that in years past, just the last 3 years. Last 2 years, wife and I arrive at the pool. Get cozy in a cabana. After waiting at least 25 minutes for some service, finally, had to walk to the bar to order drinks and food. Staff have everyone trained to do the same. Staff always cheerfully delivered orders to everyone after they walked up to put their order in. Very difficult to tip 15 to 20 percent in those conditions. Was it poor tipping on our part? They were treating everyone the same. Please can we see some great service at the pool and get that hot tub up to speed. We will b returning, hoping for the best.

Dirty rooms and no staff

We stayed at the resort for several days mid April 2018. We were put in a room with 2 beds. One had several long black hairs and very dirty sheets. The bathroom was disgusting, sandy and dirty. Front desk was very slow and not helpful. Their Sports Bar was closed for the season which left a dining room to eat. It didn’t open until 8am and only had a buffet? You couldn’t order off the menu. Really not many places to eat in the area unless you drove a ways. Pool area seemed clean but staff wasn’t exactly friendly. It seemed we were there during a time when they were operating on a very slim staff. Wouldn’t stay again.

After reading a number of Trip Advisor reviews for the Loreto Bay Golf course lately, I feel compelled to comment. My wife and I have lived in Loreto Bay for the past 6 winters and I’ve been a dues paying member of the golf club most months we’ve been here. Each fall when the monthly members begin arriving, topic number one is “How’s the course?” And each year we’ve learned to accept certain conditions. Some years it’s the fairways...or it’s the greens, or the range balls. And every year it’s the bunkers. If you’re planning to include Loreto Bay in a special golf vacation you should be aware that the condition of the Loreto Bay golf course is by no means first class. This is not a Troon course. Lisa S’ recent one star review listed a number of negatives about the course and as I read them I found myself nodding in agreement. There are however some positives that should also be considered if you’re thinking about visiting.. Positive Cost. When I got here 6 years ago monthly membership cost $240 USD. Currently, a month of unlimited golf runs $350. Weekly membership is $150 and single round play is $90. I think most members would agree that Loreto Bay is not an $90 course. Design. Whether it actually was designed (or re-designed) by David Duvall or not, the layout of Loreto Bay is, IMHO outstanding. Like any course, the subtleties take time and play to appreciate but, take it from me, it’s a good one. I’ve played it many, many times and have not tired of it. Views. Great views of Baja from the Sierra Gigante mountains to the Sea of Cortez. Fairways. The fairways are far from perfect but, generally speaking, they’re good. See negative below Greens. Challenging contours and pin placements. See negative below Walking. It’s a good walking course and most members do. See negative below Tee boxes. OK. Usually 5 per hole so lots of options for better players to stretch it out. Men’s tees from 5400 to 6800 yards. See negative below. Bunkers. The fringes around most of them have been trimmed so lost balls are no longer a problem. New sand this season has been very welcome. See negative below. Negative Power carts. Electric. They are dusty and occasionally unreliable. Yes, the cart paths are all dirt and a few areas can be muddy in the morning after sprinklering. Range Balls. For the past couple years, the range ball situation has been a joke. Thanks to a generous member the range balls have recently been upgraded. You’d think that with new range balls someone at the pro shop would take charge and make sure to have baskets filled and available. Range ball baskets. There aren’t any. Fairways. Loreto Bay’s fairways have many areas that would be designated “ground under repair” at other courses. Members have come to accept them as just part of the deal. Most of us take a free drop and move on. Greens. The greens are slow, perhaps a 6 or 7? They’re probably about as good as the mower is capable of cutting. Many greens have areas in need of repair. I’d compare them to an average municipal course. Walking. In some cases it’s a LONG way from green to tee so you’ll get your exercise walking Loreto Bay. Not sure if this is a positive or a negative. Tee boxes. Some are missing markers and some need repair. Bunkers. TOO MANY BUNKERS! Most are strategically placed and make sense but some are WTF? This might be a personal problem. Since Hurricane Odile, most bunkers have been unplayable. Even with new sand this season some bunkers are still hard because they don’t drain well after sprinklering. Most monthly players accept Loreto Bay for what it is: a well-designed course in a gorgeous setting, near our homes that continues to be a good value. Management’s reply to a previous review that “members do not complain about the course” is not accurate. Many of us are beyond complaining. Most of the negative reviews on tripadvisor probably stem from unrealistic expectations. If you come expecting Loreto Bay to give you a Cabo-course experience, you will be disappointed. I just wish it would live up to its $90-per-round rate.
