Horrible staff but great view

Staff was unlike anything I have ever experienced before, everyone was so extremely rude. There would be 5 people at the pool bar and the bartenders would never make eye contact with you for you to be able to get a drink or order food. I made reservations at the Carpi the fancier restaurant at 6pm. Nobody was at the restaurant I had to find someone to seat me, we order an appetizer and the lady never came back to us to order a meal I had to find someone again. Food was good but the staff was just horrible. The only thing good about this hotel is the views of the pool and beach. Wouldn’t recommend this to anyone find another hotel with a good view.

Awful Experience

When we arrived it looked beautiful and everyone was accommodating. After a few hours everything went downhill. The air conditioning throughout the whole place was broke and nobody told us upon check in. We called the desk because we thought something was wrong with the unit in the room and were informed it was all down. I went to the front desk to ask if I could possibly get a fan for the room because it was so hot and uncomfortable to sleep and they handed me a 5'5 standing fan and told me to bring it back when I was done with it. I was not going to drag that all the way back to my room and when I asked for assistance they told me no one was available. Staff was extremely unfriendly. We booked an all-inclusive package and every time we asked for a drink or anything the staff acted like they were annoyed with us. The atmosphere of the hotel itself was beautiful however unfriendly staff made it very uncomfortable for all of us. There were ants in our bed and when we asked the supervisor to move rooms they acted like it was an unreasonable request. ALL STAFF MEMBERS WERE MISERABLE!! Such a shame as I would never return or recommend anyone to visit. The hotel itself is beautiful with an infinity pool overlooking the beach and just a walk from the room, however I could not get past how awful we were treated.

Perfect location and vacation!

I have stayed at the Grand Lucayan resort complex numerous time over the past 20 years. I found this recent stay to be probably our best so far even with the current closures of Breakers Cay and the Casino. Check in was organized and efficient. The front desk staff were friendly and very helpful. Our bell hop, Chris, was very gracious and assisted us to our room and asked if we had any questions or needed anything for our room before we left. I booked an ocean view double and received a beautiful, clean ocean view double just as I had reserved. AC worked and a dehumidifier in the room made everyone feel more comfortable with the humidity of summer in the Bahamas. Beds and pillows were clean and comfortable, plenty of towels and toiletries in the clean and well maintained bathroom. The in-room safe was large enough for our laptop and tablets and other items. The view from our balcony was stunning, perfect for coffee in the morning and sunsets in the evening. The pool was clean and the perfect temperature, towels were provided with the towel cards we received at check in. Plenty of activities and music during the day around the pool area with the ever entertaining Luck. Waves Bar and Grill had numerous lunch options, snacks and drinks all service provided with a smile and great hospitality from Lily B. The beach area felt safe and clean with the watchful eye of lifeguard Basel. Beach vendor Miss Chloe was very helpful in selecting a few bracelets to take home as souvenirs. Food wise, Portebello's offered a wonderful breakfast buffet every morning that was perfect for children and adults, more than enough hot and cold food options with cereals, fruits, cold cuts, cheeses, omlettes cooked to order, scrambled and boiled eggs, sausages, bacon, pancakes, french toast, bagels, breads, and pastries. Coffee and fruit juices were also available. Dinner at Portobello's was a wonderful buffet featuring fish, steak skewers, chicken and the best lamb I have ever had! Vegetables, rice, plantains, salads, and a selection of desserts rounded out the meal. Pricing for food and drink was just as expected when visiting an island where almost all food and drink is imported and taxed more than we are used to in the USA...it is pricey but not too expensive if you plan accordingly by bringing snacks for the kids to keep them full between meals while playing in the pool or on the beach. Location wise, the hotel is right across the street from Port Lucaya with the straw market, shops, pubs, and restaurants. There are fewer locales than previous years due to previous hurricanes, but it still is a nice place to go for the evening for families. We booked the Dolphin Encounter through the tour desk at the hotel and had a wonderful time. Check out was literally a breeze, we were thanked and wished a pleasant trip home. We had such a great time that we have already booked another stay in August this year! Looking forward to seeing our friends and family in Grand Bahama!

NOT what we were hoping for!

We were VERY disappointed with our stay this past weekend. We arrived with our boat through the marina, we were forced to walk because the promised shuttle never showed. Time was 2 pm - we were told check in started at 3pm, fine. We went to the pool area and returned at 3pm, we were told now that checkin starts at 3pm, but can be later. After a VERY long wait, we got the room at 4:30. The entire time, the staff never smiled - they looked miserable. If you don't like your job, do not take it out on the clients. The overall condition of the resort was not reflective of the website and brochures - many updates are needed. In general the staff was unfriendly as a whole. Sadly, I was relieved when our stay came to an end. It was not the experience that was advertised or the one I had been looking forward to. I have never felt compelled to write a review before, this should show how very disappointed we were.

Very pleasant experience

Visiting the island after growing up here decades ago. Pleasantly surprised by the efforts of the staff. Any time we needed anything in the room someone responded right away and with a smile. Room was large, clean, and comfortable. Grounds and pool were great, and beach was gorgeous. Good security on the resort; my 14 year old daughter and friend wandered around safely. Overall nice experience.
