Excellent Restaurant Staff, Mediocre Front Desk Staff
ErickM01, Sacramento, California
Mon Jul 02 21:44:19 EDT 2018
My wife and i were here from Sunday June 10th 2018 to Friday June 15th 2018. The overall experience could've been much better had the front desk staff been attentive and willing to make it a memorable experience for my wife and I. (more on that later). I want to take a minute to recognize the outstanding work the staff at the buffet line does along with the staff at Surfos Restaurant. Lastly but certainly not least, the attention to detail at the swim up bar by Vladimir, Jorge, Adriana and the outstanding work and attitude by Odorfina. She always had a smile and was a pleasure to interact with. The 4 individuals at the swim up bar were absolutely fantastic and were super super super attentive. At the buffet line, Daniel kept the coffee coming, I am a guy that drinks a lot of black coffee and he never seemed bothered by the frequency of my request, i must have had 6-8 cups of coffee with my breakfast; he kept checking on my wife and I to see if we needed refills or anything else. He was absolutely awesome. Once the buffet moved inside because of the storm, Sergio took excellent care of us and a table of friends we made, in all, there was about 6-8 of us at the table and Don Sergio's attention to detail was excellent. We had dinner at The Mortero place, dinner was nice, unfortunately I did not get the name of the gentleman who waited on us, but he was great as well. Now, on to my comment regarding the front desk staff. Not very friendly and if I could summarize it in one word. COLD ! Once we checked in and had the unfortunate pleasure to deal with Edwin, he did advise me that there is a cost for replacing lost towel cards or keys to the room. He made sure I heard this clealy but once he checked us in. We just stood there and I said to him.. bro , is someone taking us to our room or how do I find it?? This should have been a warning of what was to come. After I checked out the room, I came downstairs immediately and indicated to Edwin that my wife and I were on our honeymoon, and that the room where he put us in had a cement wall for an ocean view. He asked me to come back on Monday and notify him and perhaps he could put me elsewhere, I came back Monday, Edwin was not there instead it was his co worker, another dude who just didnt want to go out of his way to accomodate us by moving us to a different room or give us any options... This dude told me to come back Tuesday, I came back Tuesday and told Valentina. Valentina then said to check Wednesday and perhaps they had cancellations. Now, word of mouth travels at resorts and we did talk to a few people who did get upgrades with no issues, most of the upgrades were honored due to the storm perhaps. However, Edwin, his co worker with the slick hair parted to the side or Valentina did absolutely nothing for us. I remember Edwin's name twice because I dealt with him 3 times, at check in, and also on different days where i clearly clearly mentioned to him that we were on our honeymoon. He simply DID NOT care. I didn't get agitated or anything, but the lack of service on their part, the fact that i told them, hey !!! guys i have a cement wall that we are starting at since you guys put me on 4718. They did not care, and the ocean view part was a big big big factor into choosing this place. They did not go out of their way to accomodate us. The sink was slow to drain, the room is next to those big fans that sit on the outside and those motors go 24/7 it seems like.. The front desk staff did not care. As for Edwin, he just says he cant do something and thats that. Here is a quick verbatim of our conversation. I said.. brother !! any chance you can upgrade me, I am on my honeymoon, you put me in this room viewing a brick wall.. he said. "its a cement wall" come on man !!! Tomato Tomatoe. Valentina, while somewhat apologetic, just said to check back with them, by this time we were looking at a Wednesday, Thursday was a storm day and the place seems to come to a halt, at least the outside activities and the bars. I get it, its an act of God. We were a bit disapointed that we couldn't try the other restaurants on site due to the storm. I want to highlight that the reason I don' give the resort a low review is because I don't want to cheapen the work the staff on the outside did. They are absolutely phenomenal. On the flip side, the front desk staff truly truly dissapointed. I can with 100% certainty say that we will not try this place again.

Best Vacation Ever!

I will start by saying that I was a little hesitant about Krystal Grand as they had several negative reviews but I am so glad we didn't change our booking because this place was fabulous! We go on an all inclusive vacation each year and this one topped Aruba and Cancun. Positives: -Recently completed renovation of public areas - the pools, restaurants, lobby, etc were all beautiful. -The food was some of the best we've had at an all inclusive resort. we ate at every venue on property and the only was that was so/so was the Mexican Restaurant (go figure). All of our meals were great and plentiful. -Service was top notch. There was no shortage of staff members to make sure you had everything you needed. Sometimes at all inclusives the bar service is slow, but that was not the case here. Housekeeping, bellman, front desk and restaurant staff all had a great attitude and met all of our needs with a smile. -The pools were ah-mazing! We were there for an entire day before we even found the adult pool and that just gave us one more option for relaxing in the cool water. -No crowds - even though our stay overlapped Memorial weekend, the hotel and public areas never felt crowded. Pool seating was plentiful and we didn't have a wait at any of the restaurants (we did make reservations for dinner) -Activities coordinator was great - we participated in beach yoga and water aerobics to make up for all of the eating we were doing. - Our guestroom was an Altitude Ocean View and it was beautiful. We were a party of 7 family members with 3 different rooms. My husband and I upgraded to the Altitude room which was by far the nicest of the 3 with a great view of the pools and the beach since we had a corner room. Our kids and their spouses had a Jr Suite Ocean view and a Deluxe Ocean View. We saw both of these rooms and agree that we were happy we chose the Altitude Room. The Deluxe ocean view was also nice - just needed a bathroom update but the Jr Suite with the kitchen was tired and dated looking but great if you needed a little more space. Negatives: -The Concierge desk was staffed sporadically so you had to make an effort to track someone down to book excursions but the concierge was knowledgable and efficient once we got her. -Had to call Housekeeping twice for minor needs like extra towels and washcloths (they tended to only leave 2 bath towels each day). We had 3 in our room and are used to getting full sets of towels. Very responsive to our calls though. Overall, if you are looking for a big party scene with foam pool parties and nightclubs this isn't the place for you but if you are looking for a clean, beautiful resort with great food and service, I don't think you can do any better than the Krystal Grand. We rarely visit the same location twice but I think we will make an exception for Cabo and the Krystal - it was too good to limit to a one time visit.

Good deal for the Price

Pros: * Hotel was good for the price paid ($500~ pp w/o tax for 5 nights) * Buffet had good variety although quality is what you'd expect of a buffet * Wasn't too crowded and we were able to sample all the restaurants. Got lucky and just missed a convention that arrived on our last day. * Between all the restaurants there's enough variety to keep your pallet fresh. * Staff was very friendly and accommodating everywhere. * Fish tacos at the Grill A++ Cons: * Pool side service was hit or miss. If you managed to get the attention of someone it seemed they'd keep routing your way during their patrol. If too many other people got served first, pool side service was almost non-existant. For the most part we always got up and ordered or drinks and food except for the last day * The highway and AC are loud! Im a bit of a heavier sleeper so it didn't affect me as much but you could always hear the noise outside. The halls follow about a 145degree angle. If you were on the side parallel to the highway you can most definitely hear the noise as well as the loud AC. We were fortunately a few doors around the bend so it was somewhat quieter. * Theres actually 2 lobbies. We couldn't find our apple rep and front desk was a little confused. Apple rep is in other lobby behind sports bar Notes (some things to point out): * The drinks are obviously for the most part well drinks. The lobby bar does have the highest quality liquor. * Martini bar has a bunch of tequilas with flavour infusions made by the staff. * Cleaning crew seemed to come really early and comes in 2 sets. First came around 9AM to do towels and linens. A later one came around 2pm to refill beverages. * We booked a "DELUXE ROH" room. I don't know what this is exactly and it isn't listed on the Krystal Grands website. We did not get the residences. I did see the residences from the outside and had we gotten one of those rooms, this review would be a bit different. * Wish there were some more activities at night, dance lessons? Adult bingo? There were activities throughout the day around the pool area up until 4pm. For the most part we hung out in the sports & martini bar which was open the latest after we completed our daily excursions and pool/lounge time. * Practice some basic Spanish. The staff is pretty bilingual where it matters. Easier to communicate with the room cleaning & restocking staff in Spanish. * Walmart is nearby for emergencies

Krystal Grand - All Inclusive Hit and Miss @ San Jose Del Cabo
YappieTraveler, Fremont, California
Mon Jun 25 13:12:25 EDT 2018
Trip Duration: 6/18/18 - 6/23/18 (This was the week after Tropical Storm Bud) Ethnicity: Asian American Age: 20 - 30 Type: Couple From: The Bay Area - "San Francisco" The above is to give everyone a background of who we are, when we went, and where we came from to better cater to the various amount of people who use TripAdvisor to see if they would like to go somewhere. Hope it helps! Pro's: 1.) Newly Renovated Rooms - The rooms were clean in my opinion and look newly renovated. Nice Big 55 inch Hisense HDR TV, Keyless Card Entry into the room, Rain Showers, etc. Keep in mind we upgraded to the Junior Ocean Suite with Partial View so it was pretty good. 2.) 3 Swimming Pools - One Kids Pool with slide and various activities, One General Pool, and One Adult Pool. We spent a lot of our downtime here and it was awesome. 3.) 3 Restaurants. Ayami (Japanese and Live Teppanyaki Show) and Risotto (Italian) were AMAZING. I highly recommend booking those restaurants to eat at dinner. El Mortero (Mexican) was not good. Do not go there. 4.) Close to Airport - The ride from the airport to the hotel was about 20 to 30 minutes of local. It wasn't too bad. Cons: 1.) Bathroom - Even though it is newly renovated, it is extremely small. The door will hit the toilet when you open it. Also the toilet flushes super slowly. You probably will need to flush 2 or 3 times to get it clear. 2.) Check-In - This was extremely slow. If you go during a busy time, be prepared to wait a long time. 3.) Service - Service was hit and miss in my opinion. In general, not everyone there speaks English so communication was a huge issue at times. Also, we seemed to be ignored a lot when we went to the Buffet while other people got instant greetings from the wait-staff. I think since we are Asian, the communication barrier wasn't all that great and they preferred to speak to people who spoke Spanish. If you are of Latin descent, this is the place for you. They are extremely friendly to their own kind. 4.) Walkways to Rooms - There are 3 humongous fans you have to pass when you walk to your rooms. The fans are loud, dirty, and spray nasty water up into the air. I think they are the A/C units to cool the hotel but its disgusting to look at. 4.) Noise - It's located next to a busy "highway" of sorts. If you are a light sleeper, you will not enjoy it. You can hear the road noise in your room at all times of the day. Although it didn't bother me, it's definitely noticeable. 5.) Buffet "O" - I think they are renovating the inside rooms of the Buffet so we were not allowed to sit in there. As such, it is all outdoor seating but there is a nice view of the beach. However, there are tons of flies all over the food and birds will occasionally come snack on uncollected plates. Breakfast was good (omelette station, empanadas, etc.) however I thought Lunch and Dinner was extremely lacking. You'll notice the same rotation of foods over and over again so it's easy to get bored. I would book one of the restaurants at the Hotel instead for a better dining experience. Overall Summary: All in all the trip was fun and the hotel was about "average" to us in terms of all-inclusives we have stayed at. The price was good as it was only $900 per person for the flight, hotel, and the food so I guess we can't complain too much. Hope the review is helpful and helps you guys decide.

Overall, a good stay, but a couple of interesting wrinkles.

Overall the room, food and swimming area is quite nice and clean. However, we found the cleaning crew trying to make extra money by not properly cleaning the room, hoping for us to leave daily tips is my take on it. The first day we left the room about 7:30 and put the Please Make Up the Room sign on the door. We came back at about 11:30 and the door sign was turned around and the room was not made up. Found a maid on the floor and finally got her to clean the room, about 30 minutes later. After she left we noticed there was no hand towel. So off to find her again. About 30 minutes and two tries later she gave us 4 face cloths. Next day, the maid failed to leave any towels. Just took the old ones. And no water or Coffee left in the room. Chased down the restocker guy. Got our water. The following day the maid left us towels, but no bath mat. They sweep the floor, but don't clean it. So by now, our feet get dirty. So we finally went down and talked to a manager. I really believe they were trying to get us to leave them a tip each day. Some more of our family were in a different room and that is what they did and they got their towels each day. Anyway, the day after we talked to the manager, everything seemed to be OK. Towels and all. The food is not bad. We did not eat in the Mexican restaurant so don't know about it. Most of the waiters were friendly and busy. Not particularly efficient. For a discount price it was a reasonable deal. Would not have been happy to pay the full price.
