Best Hotel in Kauai!
MICHAEL W.

We absolutely loved Koa Kea Resort! The staff was great, really comfortable rooms and the beds and pillows were the most comfortable ever! The location was great and right on the beach but still felt very quaint. We would definitely stay here again if we find ourselves in Kauai!

Our first visit to KK was in 2014. We compare all resorts to our favorite, the Four Seasons on the Big Island. Although not as large and grand as the Four Seasons, the KK nevertheless was in it's league, almost perfect. Our second time was in 2016 and although still nice, had slipped noticeably to a four star experience. This time it was 3 stars. We had the Ocean Front suite (248) and although the view and double balcony as amazing, the room itself was tired. The furniture needed refinishing, the mattress was lumpy and uncomfortable needing to be replaced, the TV options were third rate (even cheap hotels have the option for current pay per view movies, but only movies there were B movies or worse). On the first trip my wife fell in love with the Mai Tai's at KK, this trip the Mai Tai's were literally undrinkable. There was only one bartender at the pool and no other waiters, even though the hotel was at capacity. That meant getting up from your lounge chair and waiting in line at the bar for a drink. The food selection at the bar was nothing like previous visits. The staff, with a couple of exceptions, seemed to be just going through the motions with no personal attention. I could go on, but suffice it to say we won't be going back and that makes us sad as we had really loved this place.

Amazing Customer Service & Beautiful Resort

My first impressions when I arrived to the Koa Kea Resort was "wow". The employees were very nice & helpful. From when the bellman greeted us, to checking into our room, Koa Kea's customer service was phenomenal. The small resort was charming. The rooms were modern, and the decor in the lobby was beautiful. The Red Salt's (restaurant) steak and eggs for breakfast is highly recommended! Overall, I loved the Aloha atmosphere. They have yoga classes in the morning, a nice pool, & jacuzzi. It is the perfect place to stay in Poipu. Located right by the beach makes surfing, paddling, & snorkeling accessible. Koa Kea, is a luxurious, peaceful, and beautiful resort. The staff with their excellent service adds the cherry on top. Thank you for a wonderful experience!

Loved this resort! It’s small and luxurious. Every need is tended to. Upon arrival, you are taken on a tour of the property and to your room where you are given further information. We were each given a beautiful lei upon arrival as well. The room was lovely. The marble bathroom gorgeous . There is a complementary bottle of wine along with macadamia nuts in the room. It has an expression machine and at turndown service you are given bottled water and chocolates. Beautiful Oceanside property in sunny Poipu where luxury and customer service is number one.

Great Small, Upscale Hotel

We also choose this hotel based on reviews and 4 days in we are absolutely delighted and 100% satisfied with this resort. Koa Kea is on par with the Hawaiian Ritz and Fairmont properties where we have stayed. Rooms have a very modern feel. Service is simply outstanding. The staff here truly goes out of their way to assist you. Their massages and yoga classes are top notch. We were looking for a smaller, classy venue with an intimate feel to start our Hawaiian trip and the Koa Kea delivered. Highly recommended, particularly for couples.

Knock Out View From Room

We had a ocean front room with a 180 degree ocean view from our lanai around 40 feet or so from the water on upper level. It wasn't cheap but our thought was as we are elderly, this may be a one time shot. Who knows, Kauai has been calling ever since we left as it was hard to leave. The hotel was just what we hoped for, small, quiet, beautiful, luxurious and 40 feet or so from the sea. We had no desire for a big resort with all the noise and long walks to get around. We were not disappointed there. The staff was great also. A couple of things prevented this from being truly a knock-out stay. First the bed mattress was in need of replacement. It sagged and had seen it's day. It was not what one would expect from a high end hotel room costing $800 a night, taxes and fees included. We did not turn in a complaint as from other reviews I read Ko'a Kea's answer is to put a piece of plywood under the mattress. Also the built in wood furniture is old, scratched and needs to be replaced The second issue was beach access. there is no actual sandy beach directly in front of the hotel. The shore is paved with large volcanic rocks, probably to prevent erosion. You can go left (east) for a good distance on a nice walkway past the next door mega-hotel and access a beautiful but crowded beach, or go right (west) to the end of Ko'a Kea property on the walk and down to a quieter sandy beach extending west in front of other hotels. The problem with the second option is that the beach access path is very narrow, through bushes and culminates in a final step down of about a foot and a half over a rock. Neither option is elderly friendly and the West option presents a hazard to anyone trying to go this way. The hotel would not need to spend a lot of money considering what they take in to put in decent mattresses and construct a couple of steps to the beach with a hand rail. This would certainly go a long way toward moving my review to excellent.
