our gal Krystin at the outside bar was awesome! She was very attentive and knew exactly what i wanted and was happy to be there. At check in we were treated like royalty and shown to our room. we had some questions and within the next 10 minutes they had sent up directions to where we were asking about. The turn down service in the evening was an awesome touch and our gal was the BEST! As busy as the restaurant was Food Manager was more than eager to get us fit in so we could have a dinner their with them. I will definately suggest to friends and family to book however, i don't really want to give away my tiny secret paradise we have found with your resort.

We absolutely loved Koa Kea Resort! The staff was great, really comfortable rooms and the beds and pillows were the most comfortable ever! The location was great and right on the beach but still felt very quaint. We would definitely stay here again if we find ourselves in Kauai!

Let's hope corporate doesn't kill this gem!!

Returned for our 3rd visit in the last 4 years. The location is simply the best, the staff that has been able to stay through the Meritage's acquisition remain friendly, helpful, and responsive, but I fear that the warmth of the original boutique hotel is being stifled under corporate. We had to work hard to get the housekeeping management to clean our rooms (repeatedly had to call -- at 4 pm!!--to get service!!) even though the we had the second most expensive suite in the resort. My daughter, who had the most expensive one, had the same issues, as did our friends. (The cleaning staff was wonderful.) The place just smells of common corporate--the obligatory lei upon registering, the morning yoga, the free sampler smoothies around the pool. Under Meritage, the Red Salt breakfast buffet is an embarrassment. Reminds me of what might be found at any interstate motel!! I'd like less of the pretend and more of the natural wonder of this place. Thank goodness for the staff who chose to remain: Paul, the food and beverage manager for the resort is so knowledgeable; Jenny, the morning waitress at Red Salt, is quick, fun, and efficient; the people at the poolside bar go out of their way to please, the groundskeepers are friendly, unobtrusive, and forever busy, and the valet people are top notch. These old timers make the resort still feel intimate and welcoming. Dinner at Red Salt is great and the bar (thanks again, Paul) is very well stocked.

Comfortable, easy and relaxing

Came here for a babymoon when I was 20 weeks pregnant, seemed to be a common theme as there were many other pregnant women at the resort. The check in process and customer service at the front desk were both informative and helpful. Bed was exceptionally comfortable and room had great blackout curtains. Bathroom and shower were large and updated, makeup mirror and rain shower included. Room had his and hers robes and flip flops. Turndown service came 2x/day and replenished water bottles each time. Pool is not huge but it does its job. Unlimited towels available as well as towel covers for lounge chairs. No beach directly in front of the resort but beach access right next door on either side, a short easy walk. There was a lot of rain throughout our stay, one rainy afternoon the spa staff offered guests by the pool a complimentary chair massage which was thoughtful. Massage in the spa was nice, not the best we have ever had but relaxing nonetheless. Ordered a club soda at the lobby bar and was charged $4 which I thought was a bit excessive (wasn’t bottled, was from the soda gun). $37/day resort fee. $20/night for overnight parking, self parking is not available. Staff is courteous and helpful. There are restaurants and shopping centers that are within walking distance. There were a lot of kids at the resort so if you’re looking for the “adult only” quiet, it won’t be here. Overall, a pleasant and relaxing stay. Would return or recommend to others for a future stay.

We arrived after 15 hours of travel from Baltimore and learned that our reservation had been cancelled due to non- payment! We had booked the reservation through a Trip advisor sponsored site called Hotel Quickly last October. They took our money though our Chase credit card but never forwarded the money to the resort. In fact we discovered the company had gone out of business in December. Koa kea was very accommodating and upgraded us into an Ocean View suite from our reserved ocean view room. The views were terrific as was the sun on the south side of the island which we learned was a rare site on the north side of the island in February. Their restaurant, Red Salt, was outstanding! We did have to pay the resort again for our stay but are hopeful Chase will refund our second payment after they research the situation.

beautiful, quiet spot

We loved Ko'a Kea! Super friendly staff, nice rooms, great location and view. It's small and quiet, so if you're looking for something with more activity on-site, this is not the place for you. If you're early to bed, early to rise and love a quiet, clean spot, we would totally recommend. It's also pricey, so it's a splurge, but we felt worth it.

Beautiful Small Resort

This is a beautiful, small, relaxing beachfront resort. The renovated rooms are very nicely decorated and the staff are all very pleasant and professional. There is good snorkeling right in front of the resort and the surfing looked pretty good also. It is also a great place to watch the sunset. The place is on the quite side and it is not really a good spot for kids. We really enjoyed our stay but I could not give it 5 stars for a couple reasons. First, we booked a partial ocean view room and I realized that we would not have a pristine view. However, I didn't expect a view primarily of a parking lot, a giant propane tank and some shrubbery. It seems to me that there are a lot of complaints about this very issue they need to stop booking rooms like ours (361 directly next to the parking lot and propane tank) as partial ocean view. The view is just bad from some of these rooms and they shouldn't pretend that it isn't. Second, they need some more lawn chairs. We went down to lay out one morning at 10:30am and every single chair at the pool and the lawn was taken. I asked if they could bring out some chairs for us and they politely told us they could not. We had to hang around like seagulls waiting for some chairs and saw other couples in the same predicament. At these rates they need to buy some more lawn chairs and keep some in storage to accommodate their guests if all the chairs fill up. Finally, I think the food and beverage prices were a little over the top. I realize you are gonna pay a premium for food and drink at a beachfront resort on Kauai - but charge me $14 for that mojito at the pool in a 16oz plastic cup - I am fine with that - but at $17 you just feel like you are getting ripped off. I really think that if they toned down the food and drink prices just a little they would sell more food and beverage and have happier guests. Despite these issues we really enjoyed our stay and would recommend this resort to a couple or some adults for a beautiful and relaxing place to stay on Kauai.
