Rooms not near worth the money

The room was advertised as a suite, but it was no more than average sized hotel room. The walls between rooms were paper-thin. We could hear virtually everything our neighbors said and did. Yes, even when they went to the bathroom. The beach is very small. There was no WiFi available in the room. I called four times and was told all four times that someone would be up to check. They never did. On the second night water leaked from the ceiling in the bathroom causing the floor in the bathroom and other parts of the room to form puddles that were slippery and made walking dangerous. I called to report the issue and again nothing was done. No one came to check. The leak did stop and much of the floor dried up in the course of the next day. On the third night the air conditioning went out. Possibly because of the water that had been leaking? As a result of these poorly handled problems we decided to leave a day early. Luckily for us we had other arrangements we were able to take advantage of. As I look up at the list of poorly managed problems I can find no reason I would want to return. In fact I am forced to become proactive and warn all my friends, and anyone else interested, not to go to this event until there is proof that these issues have been addressed in a meaningful manner.

We have been to the Caribbean many times to different islands, but this was our first visit to Jamaica. I am sure there are many very good resorts in Jamaica, but we found this one disappointing. It was an adults only resort, so we did expect something a little more sophisticated. For instance there were large speakers overlooking the main pool area and beach and generally from mid morning to late afternoon very loud music was blaring over this whole area. We did have to ask a few times for the volume to be turned down a little! While the food on offer in the resort was OK, it was nothing special and not near the quality we have experienced elsewhere. What I can say as a positive was the quality of service. Almost without exception the staff were very good and the service they provided excellent. This visit has put us off ever considering Jamaica as a possible future destination.

Sit-down meals take forever. We waited nearly an hour for dinner at Moonstone, and at Platinum after waiting 30 minutes for my over-medium eggs and bacon I got up and left! (Guess I should have ordered over-easy!) Most troubling was the lack of wifi coverage in the resort. It was so spotty that we ended up having to buy international phone plans for each of us. That $10 a day for 4 people/phones for 6 days was an expense we certainly did not expect to incur ($240!). That was really disappointing. Finally, the so-called gym was perhaps the worst I've seen at a hotel. The equipment is limited and antiquated and the air conditioning only worked one day. Oh yeah, upon arrival we had to sit for nearly an hour on the bus before departing for resort. Made even worse by receiving absolutely no communication from driver about departure time delay. I would recommend exploring other resorts -- especially to confirm wifi coverage!

I loved the area and the resort was great. I'll list out my pros and cons to make it a little simpler. Pros: Great value. Great staff. We were there in the off season, or on a lucky slow week, as the beaches, pools, and even the hot tubs were pretty empty. They rake the sand on the beaches regularly to keep it smooth and nice. 2 small beaches. For a $100 fee, they decorated my friend's room for her 30th birthday - it was terrific. There was a cake, and rose petals and a cool design on the bed, as well as chilled champagne and glasses. We booked on Cheapcaribbean.com and our round trip transport to/from the airport was included in our booking costs. WATERSPORTS! We took out the kayaks, my friends also did the bikes that you can ride on the water. Paddleboards and catamarans (which they are required to go out with you, 2 at a time) are also included. EXCURSIONS! We went to Konoko Falls - included in our resort fees - 4 hours - great trip. Bring water shoes, you hike the falls! We went on the snorkeling excursion too - I think it was about 1-2 hours and was also included. You need to book both at least 1 day in advance! Hammocks. Enough said. Waterslide. Pretty fun, if not scary! (It's totally tame, I'm a wimp) Clean! Adults Only! Cons: One of the three pools was under construction - pretty noisy, but just during the day. Beaches were small, with no access to public beaches. This was a downside for us, as we wanted to be able to walk and possibly interact with some locals trying to market their trinkets and such. Could be considered a positive. We had a leak in our room and had to be swapped to a new one. It was very quick and easy, but still inconvenient. Small resort - we didn't care for the piano bar - odd set up of the bar, and for karaoke the set up was strange - they just YouTube the lyrics. This really limited where you'd spend your evening. Not enough bottled water around - you had to ask at the front desk or find the housekeepers - seemed odd that bartenders didn't have it, but there were water coolers around, so there was access. Tiles are SUPER slippery when it rains, be cautious. Disclaimer: we didn't try the disco club, we were too busy taking advantage of empty hot tubs at night. Pools: 3, with 2 hot tubs, 3 swim up bars. Beaches: 2 Food: Buffet (breakfast & lunch - was fine - this is the only place open for breakfast unless you do room service, which we did not). Sushi - delicous! (Dinner only) Hibachi (need reservations) - very good, animated chef. Bar Grill - quick, hot fried food (bar food), open 11am-7am (yes, overnight!). Pizza place - opens at 12:30 for lunch. Pizza was ok (brick oven) but service was slowest here. Maybe just a luck of the draw, but we didn't return. Is also open for dinner, I believe. Italian - good food, only open for dinner. Caribbean food - only open for dinner, was pretty good, is white glove service, so a little slower, for the experience.
