Not a luxurious at all, disappointed with food and amenities (which were few). Used Apple Vacations before and was impressed, but for this second trip I was annoyed Apple did not specify there was construction at the resort and lied that we were on the beach. Even Apple Rep at hotel said we were in a terrible hotel. Thanks for the head's up.

IFA Villas is a great place to stay if you do not want 5-star service. The hotel rooms are nice and the maids were so friendly and polite. The grounds within the resort are nice. I didn't realize, when I booked that you'd have to take a buggy/shuttle to the beach or walk. It was only a few minutes away, but I wish I would have known that. My only complaints are as follows: I booked a king-bed room, which we got 2 double beds and never could get them to change that. If you wanted to eat at the nicer restaurants, you had to stand in line before 8:00 to get a reservation when the desk opened at 8:30. My worst complaint was the flies!! They are everywhere in full force! It made eating at the buffets difficult. They were doing remodeling down by the beach on one of the restaurants, so they lost water in the bathrooms for the day. That was bad! Beyond the flies, the food is good. However, we were hoping to have fresh chips and pico de galo/salsa on the buffets, which they never had. Real bummer!! Had an AWESOME massage by Veronica-loved her!! We did a few excursions during our stay. We booked them through the resort. The transport to the catamaran's and island were very long. The resort is geared for Spanish speaking people, so we couldn't go to any of the entertainment in the evenings because we do not speak Spanish. That was a bummer. Overall, this vacation was very cheap through Apple and it was a good week. The weather wasn't so great, so I'm glad the bars were accommodating!

We were more than pleased with our week at IFA Villas Bavaro. The beach was beautiful, the room was clean and comfortable, and the staff (in general) made us feel welcome. We were especially impressed by the bar staff at the Margarita bar. What a personable and entertaining group! We had some good meals at the ala cart restaurants, and the buffet was more than adequate, especially the breakfasts highlighted by some of the best bread we ever ate. (Those big slices can't be beat.) Maybe the overall was a tick below a 5 star we visited last year, but the value was amazing at less than two thirds of the price. I wouldn't hesitate to recommend this resort to anyone. One other thing of interest was the wide variety of languages we heard. People from all over the world were there. Obviously the mail language of the staff is Spanish, and some speak English better than others, but don't forget that it is their language and their country. I really think it helps to try to use whatever Spanish one is capable of. I think the staff appreciates that. One more thing. I truly believe that the excellent room we got was a direct result of booking through Apple. Thanks, Apple.

We had a blast at IFA Villas Bavaro! The staff were always nice, helpful and spoke good English. Our room was always clean and in the perfect location on the resort (near one of the pools and a 3 min walk to the beach).

Loved the resort, very nice, very clean, friendly people and beautiful! However we asked for King beds in 2 of our 3 rooms, and that didn't happen...which really stunk for 2 of the couples on our trip. The waiting in line for reservations every morning was RIDICULOUS...it meant we couldn't sleep in AT ALL. The line began forming at 7:30 and if you weren't in line by 8:15 you were basically screwed for a decent, if at all, reservation for a sit down meal. They didn't start taking them until 8:30, so we learned early in week to plan on being in line for at least 45 minutes to an hour. That really stunk! And we ALWAYS complain about cigarettes smoking. This was the first resort, however, that didn't have designated smoking areas, so there was no avoiding it. Despite those minor things we had a blast!

IFA is a very comfortable hotel. The buffet is decent, and the menu changes daily. It is open at convenient times. The pizza/grill is also open at very convenient times - whenever I came back late from the bars/clubs, this is the only restaurant that is open, and they have pretty good burgers and fries available. All 3 restaurants that require reservation for dinner are excellent. Make sure to call or visit guest services early on the day you would like to book because slots go fast. If you have excursions scheduled and are unable to make it, you can book the night before, just show your receipt. Nightly entertainment at the theatro was fun (10-11pm) - dancers are great and have good energy. Lots of good crowd participation. Different show every night. Unlimited drinks at the bar are great, especially in the pool. Go for the mamajuana shots and the cocoloco drinks - the local favorites. Staff is extremely friendly and helpful. Most speak little to moderate amounts of english - if you speak some spanish, it is easier to get by, but the staff is always friendly, polite, and professional and try their best to accommodate you. Especially loved Emmanuel at the front desk (night shift), Carlos in guest services, and Junior and another very nice bar tender whose name I can't remember but he played Romeo Santos music for me at the Jacuzzi per my request because it was too quiet! Disco Fantasy was fun too. I went earlier in the night and there wasn't a lot of people yet (11pm-2am); but from what I heard from other guests, it becomes more fun after 2 AM. Overall had a great stay and would recommend!

The resort was very pretty and our room was very comfortable. The man cleaning our room did a great job and was friendly as was some of the bar staff. Luis from Apple tours was helpful the first two days but then he disappeared without warning. There was another Apple tour person for a day but for the rest of the trip we had no one. We weren't helped with our trip out of the resort. The people working the desk at the resort were invariably rude to guests as were some of the people working in restaurants. We also were harassed constantly by people selling within the resort.

While the rain season is something you cannot avoid, there were a number of glitches during our trip- ones that really shouldn't have happened. Details as follows: 1. We lost power at the hotel for the larger part of an entire morning (Monday). 2. Our dinner reservations for El Caribe restaurant were mixed up (at Guest Services). As such, we had to make alternative plans. The customer service component of this mishap/experience was disappointing. The staff in this particular restaurant were not helpful, ushered us away from the restaurant, and made us go back to Guest Services to inquire as to what happened. In doing so, we were unable to find said gentleman, who come to find out- was on dinner. 3. The 12-18 inches of water we received on the Monday of our trip flooded the pool, shut down all outdoor entertainment, and unfortunately, the hotel offered nothing indoors to do (i.e. a recreation room/building). 4. Our television went out. 5. We could never access the Wi-Fi hot spots (labeled as free)- even in the designated areas. 6. We lost hot water within the bathroom of the hotel for at least two days (showering concerns). 7. It was difficult to hear some of the entertainers throughout the day, since a significant part of the resort was under construction (new buildings). 8. We had to discard of our own garbage, and find our own supplies (towels and toilet paper). While there were a number of concerns we had on the negative side of the scale, the experience also came with several other benefits. Those who did not fully speak the English language went out of their way to find someone who could fully communicate with you, if you needed something. The performers were great (evening theater experience). The wait staff at the hotel were great- they ran a well-oiled machine, were friendly and courteous, and really seemed to enjoy their roles. They made you feel welcome, and they cracked jokes with you, and many went out of their way to help you make the most out of the experience.

We were grossly disappointed in our choice of this hotel. The food was the same every single day and was disgusting. By the end of the week we all had lost weight. My husband and I love wine and were disappointed in the fact that the wine was served out of a turpentine jug.. not kidding. They have four specialty restaurants but in order to get into the restaurants you have to call ahead at 9 AM in the morning or wait in line in the lobby with 100 people deep . Completely ridiculous . Our TV broke on Tuesday it took four days to fix it because no one could speak English and kept blaming it on a satellite problem ! My family has traveled all throughout the Caribbean Mexico and have never experienced a disappointment like this place. The only positive I can say is the hotel was kept clean and the beach is beautiful but they seaweed is bad!

It's ok - overall give it a 3/5

For the most part our experience was good. There are some good and bad things about the property. Here are my thoughts and recommendations: +Book excursions: Hotel is ok but can get a little boring. Ask for Antonio - he books excursions with a legitimate local company. We did the Sauna trip, all day about $170 for both my husband and I. It included drinks + food and really nice beaches. I did a dune buggy excursion - it was $70 for both of us. They take you on trails to see caves, a small place where they let you try local coffee & mamajuana. Note - the company takes credit card but prefers cash (USD). He probably won't give receipt but no worries, they follow through. He normally calls right in front of you to confirm the trip. Also note: there are ALL DAY excursions - they day 3-4 hours but by the time they pick up people from other hotels around punta cana + excursions it turns into an all-day affair. +Ask reception for event information: We booked from Wed to Sat and later found out that they had a really nice concert planned for Sat. night on property. Ask in advance and also when you get there. They have a club on site and we did not know they had shows at the club until Friday night. +Food get there early: The food was great - a mix of your normal latin food but breakfast is very much Dominican inspired = mofongo + salami etc. They do have some variation like french toast, omelets and cereal. If you wait to eat you will most definitely get "scraps". We arrived late Wed and it was near closing of the lunch area and we had dried and not very tasty food. But we got there early the other days and had great hot and tasty food. +Gift shop & Pharmacy on property The gift shop has great prices we bought all of our gifts there. My husband had a headache and went into the pharmacy and they had everything - like a mini CVS.They accept all major CCs, cash & pesos. All in all we had a good time. I rated the property a 3/5 because: +a lot of noise - they use golf carts to take people to their room and you hear them because the pathways are pebbles. So afternoon naps are somewhat hard to fall asleep. Hotel is under construction but they construction noise is not an issue. + we had issues with hot water other people we met didnt but we ask to have someone take a look at our shower and no one came. So we had to take cold showers for 4 days. +lack of communication - we found out later that the back of the villas had jacuzzis and it was quite. A couple that had a room back there told us - there was no map of the property given to us. We say that later they did provide maps to people, so you should probably ask if they do not provide. Also ask about entertainment. + a LOT of locals - seems like they open food and pool to locals for a fee. There was a birthday going on and the pool & food was PACKED with locals on Friday. Wed & Thurs was quite but still some locals around. We did stay at the bar a couple of times for drinks - they're ok if you are a light drinker. If you like hard drinks, I suggest you go to the gift shop and buy a premium bottle ($20-30) and drink that along with the free drinks. Also a note- DO NOT EXCHANGE your dollars for pesos - you'll lose money. Everyone takes USD.

Well I am writing this whilst still here, so far been here since Tuesday the 5 th and I have mixed reviews, on one hand it's a beautiful part of the world, I am glad we have come to see it, on the other hand I don't understand why some of the locals feel they have to rip you off? The resort is clean tidy and the majority of staff are friendly and polite, apart from the small shop that is located on site, I say that because I have been in 3 times now, each time being charged different prices for the exact item (cigarettes), even when pointed out that it says pesos on the item, they have tried charging me dollars? Oh by the way don't listen to any forums about dollars being the best money to use, change to pesos, even better change pounds to us dollars then change to pesos but again do it at a western union cos the resort is bad for them changing it 😣 this resort is not geared up for English speaking, but most the staff at least try to communicate with you, and anyway that's the fun of being in a foreign land. Outside the resort it is a poor country, but again the people we have come across are friendly and always smiling, going back to earlier in my review, I said some locals try and take advantage of you being a tourists, I feel they think as we are holidaying then we must all be rich, as we found out on our first day when down at the local market area by the beach when wife was mugged into paying £120 for a trinket that was worth about £10 lol ☹️ you live and learn 🤔 on the resort itself it's a little dissappointing, it is their out of season but for the life of me I don't know why as it's been in the early 30° since we been here 😎 went to one of the bars and wife likes her mojito s but was told not on the menu☹️ being from the UK I like ales, bitter as I get older but only the local bottled lagar which is very gassy, then they only pour you a small plastic cup so got to keep going to the bar for refill, bit annoying when you go there and have to wait 5 mins to get served even though it's out of season lol, the accommodation is adequate but nothing special, we don't go on holiday to sit in a room anyway so that's not an issue, the pool is clean but will tell it as it is, you don't see many people using the toilet s that are provided or going back to there rooms ☹️ the first morning coming out of breakfast you have the excursions people doing there job but I would say either go online and book or wait till you down the beach as you will get better deals, whilst talking about the restaurants, again not really geared up for the British palette, but the 'eggman' will knock you up excellent omelettes every morning, when we booked it did say that they were refurbishing parts of the resort, so we expected some building to be going on but did not expect to be sitting having breakfast and less than 4 ft away the wall starts being knocked down, even the staff looked shocked, something out of faulty towers I kid you not☹️ all in all it was nice and glad we went but would not go back☹️

What can I say, it was my 3rd time at the IFA and it was as good as the first two trips. I research where i'm going so I knew in advance that there were renovations happening but that didn't deter me and it also didn't interfere with my vacation. We arrived earlier in the day at around 1:00 pm and we were prepared to have to wait for our room by packing swimsuits in our backpacks but our room was ready and we were all set. I requested a 2nd floor room but got a ground floor. I don't like crawling insects and critters so I always request a 2nd floor but I decided to try it for one night and see what happened. There were no crawlies and our room was kept super clean. We split our time between the two pools and the beach with no issues. The food was good at the buffet especially the breakfast and the pizza there is awesome! My favorite though is the Café Dominican where they make delicious cocktails. It's the best spot to unwind with a Spanish coffee as well. They have a great shopping center which has snacks, beverages, and any other goodies you might want at average prices. Overall, Good Food, Good drinks, wonderful staff...all equals amazing time. Also a big shout out to the spa! Thanks to Elizabeth for booking it and Margarita your hands are amazing. Awesome massages ladies! Can't wait to return when the renovations are complete! Just one little thing, please upgrade the wifi,..it's super slow. :-)

One of my fav Caribbean holidays. 3 times we’ve returned to this hotel and have never been disappointed. Foods good, staff are great drinks are amazing specially the cocktails! Here we stayed in the bungalows witch we loved. The first time we stayed in 2015 they we’re a little old and rough then when we returned a year later they had done an amazing update to the bungalows and complex! We would love to return here but haven’t been able to as you can’t book because their making the complex bigger so lots of building work going on but I can’t wait to return when they have finished! We used to take bread to the beach and feed the fish 🐟 hundreds appeared when we fed them. I can’t wait to return here and see how beautiful they have updated it to! ♥️
