This is our fifth trip to the Iberostar Grand Rose Hall, Montego Bay, Jamaica. First the good news: they have added an outdoor grill by the pool bar that serves grilled steaks, chicken and lobster during the lunch hours. It is lovely. The staff remains exceptional. We tried the spa this year and if anyone needs a massage, please ask for Sophia - she is wonderful. She obtained her certification and has been working as a masseuse for three years. To name a few special folks, Chef Michael shucks oysters as if he just came from New Orleans; Theolynn who works at the pool knows how to fold towels that stay on the sun bed even in a hurricane; butlers Stanley (our butler for two years), Spencer, and OJay are fabulous; Chef Anthony delivers special pastries that are terrific and Basile who is so very helpful in any situation. Now for the bad news: the feral cat population has moved from the beach area to the grassy area in front of the buffet: the cats are using the grass in front of the buffet as their litter box. The Iberostar does not enforce the DO NOT FEED the CATS regulation. If tourists feed them and then try to pet them, the cats bite and claw. Of course, one must dodge the presents in the grass. Also, now that Jamaica has a no smoking policy, the Iberostar is on the fence about to handle that law. They have ashtrays available, large urns for cigarettes/cigars. When you ask them about their policy they note that the only restriction is your room or indoors at restaurants. However, if another guest complains about cigarette or cigar smell OUTDOORS, you are promptly reprimanded and told you can only smoke on your balcony. Imagine spending a lot of money to only be allowed to have a cigarette or cigar on your balcony on your vacation while your traveling companions are at the pool. If you are a smoker, you can contact the resort but I believe you will get a very noncommittal response; they will say that smoking is allowed at the pool. However, if someone complains, you will be told that you cannot smoke. If you question the management before you go, and they tell you it is ok to smoke outdoors, ask them what will happen if someone complains. If they then tell you that it is ok to smoke outdoors, PRINT that response and take it with you. My husband was told about his cigar smoke even though he always asks his sun bed neighbors if the smoke will bother them. They all said no, however, a woman two rows down and 12 beds over was offended. My husband was reprimanded and was told this is a no smoking area while two smokers walked by the manager as well as a younger male who was smoking a marijuana joint - which is still illegal. They are trying to play both sides and they need a policy and then enforce it. I double anything will be posted on their web site because they don't want to deter tourists, however, if you are a smoker, either cigarette or cigar, I would think twice about booking this property. If you are not a smoker, I believe you will get preferential treatment with a complaint which is unfair. The management needs to make a decision how to handle this issue. It is unlikely we will be returning.

Thunder and Renay and the other gal who did the games were super; the food was out of this world, even the beach grill had lobster; we were able to try each of the restaurants because our butler, Denston (also TERRIFIC) set us up as soon as we got there. the Surf and Turf was our favorite along with the buffet which you couldn't go wrong. the beach access and different pools were awesome, would most definitely return!

VERY satisfied!

A quick history so you know where I’m coming from; we travel annually to an AOAI with friends usually going to Mexico and have stayed at Secrets Capri, Secrets Silversands, Secrets Maroma, Excellence Riviera Maya, Excellence Playa Mujres, El Dorado Royal, and The Valentin Imperial. We hadn’t been to Jamaica for 20 years, but chose to go this year to add on to a business trip there. Room There doesn’t appear to be a bad room in the place! Great views from all the rooms. We were on the top floor and that made it even better. Our son’s room was near the lobby, however, and said there was often noise from the 24-hour lounge in the lobby. Our suite was spacious and all have a beautiful balcony with seating and a swing. Our bed was very comfortable and the linens were soft. They have a pillow menu available. The room was comfortable and functional. Housekeeping did a great job and kept everything well stocked and immaculate – we even caught the supervisor in our room one afternoon with a checklist to ensure housekeeping had met expectations. The butler was friendly and very consistent in checking in with us. Pools/Beach All the pools are in the same area and are somewhat adjoining. There are a few floaties available if you ask the pool concierge for them; otherwise, you can bring your own and they will blow it up and store it for you. They are more than enough beds and loungers, however, if you want some in the sun you will need to be at them by at least 8 am. The infinity pool looks right onto the beach and ocean – we liked the close proximity. The beach is not very long – maybe 1/3 mile from one end to another, but it is clean, the sand is soft and the water is warm. Your stay at The Grand also allows you access to the other Iberostar resorts on that private beach. We did go to the resort next door and enjoy their lazy river. There are a few locals at the water’s edge every morning selling their wares (including marijuana) but resort security moves them along around 8:00 am and they do not return to the property until the next morning. Restaurants Every restaurant we ate at was amazing! All of them require dinner reservations except the buffet so be sure to call and make those the day you get in. The surf and turf was our favorite. I wasn’t even going to go to the Japanese since we had eaten at a Hibachi grill several times, but I’m glad we did – it was over the top! We also found the Italian restaurant to be excellent! Spa/Gym Our spa experience at this resort was not what we have experienced at the resorts in Mexico. It did not have a warm welcome, or a tranquil atmosphere. The hydrotherapy pools are free to Grand guests and their heated tile lounge chairs were very relaxing. The services I received were a massage, a facial and a manicure. On a scale from 1-5 would rate the massage a 2, the facial a 4 and the manicure a 4. Maybe a different massage therapist would have made the difference. Be sure to get your coupons from the concierge. I did not look at the gym, but my daughter-in-law did and was informed she could also use the brand new gym at the resort next door which she did and said it was beautiful and very well equipped. She preferred it over the one at The Grand. Entertainment The shows all start at 9:45 pm and we did not go to any of them although it appeared they had some fun entertainment lined up. Almost every night there was a band playing on the pool deck and there is always wonderful music in the lobby bar each evening. Both the lobby bar and the sports bar have a coffee bar and their coffee is delicious. Service The service in terms of our welcome, help with questions, and treatment in the gift shops was disappointing. I could say a couple of the female concierges were even rude. At first I thought my expectations were off or it was a cultural thing, but after visiting with several housekeepers, Theo-lyn and Reniece at the pool, Sherika at the swim up bar, and Dimples in the lobby lounge, and Juliet and Jheannelle in the Spa, I think it was just some bad attitudes behind the concierge desk because these gals were warm, sweet, and helpful! Grounds The grounds were immaculate and clean. Staff were frequently scrubbing the walkways. The restrooms by the pool have attendants who were constantly cleaning. This was the absolute cleanest resort we have been to. Do not hesitate to book at the Iberostar Grand! I'm happy to answer any questions!

A little piece of paridise!

Fantastic resort, excellent staff, great food and top shelf liquor, can't ask for much more! Truly enjoyed our trip, didn't even leave the resort everything was so great. Entertainment team did a great job, along w the bartenders and the butlers and pretty much everyone at the resort, one of my most pleasent, laid back resorts I have ever stayed.
