Wonderful HOTEL, FOOD and Service

The hotel smells divine and the service was outstanding. The food selections are wonderful and the swim up bar is heavenly. You truly don't have any need to leave the resort. The night club was fun too. Diffently lived up to the 5 Star rating. I couldn't get us to the butler , so I tipped him early on so he wouldn't ome back

Not a Five Star Resort

I spent ten days at the Grand Rose Hall, August 3-12. I chose the Iberostar Grand because I have stayed many times at the Iberostar Grand Punta Cana and had a fabulous experience there. I did not have that same experience in Jamaica I am sorry to say. There were many positives. The workers were polite, friendly and hard working. The restaurants were very good, but they can use one more. The room, after we changed the first because of a musty smell, was large and clean. The grounds were well kept and clean and easy to get a lounge even in the shade. Sounds great so far but there were several problems. You chose to pay extra for a five star hotel because you expect all the services to be excellent. The "butlers" were less than useless. I virtually never saw the afternoon butler and the morning butler who I only saw by accident on the way to breakfast almost never followed through on my few requests. On my first day I was told the butler would be there in a few minutes to introduce himself and show me how things worked in the room. Two hours later I had to go to Guest Services, they also had difficulty locating the butler. His excuse, he was talking politics with another new guest. Room Service was also less than desirable. I had simple requests, please leave no snacks and two large bottles of water daily. They never got it right. When I called I was put on hold and they never returned to the phone. Often no one answered the call. When I requested wine be delivered to the room bottles were left but still corked but there was no corkscrew in the room. For that you had to get the butler if you could find him, usually a 45 minute wait. In the ten days I was there Room Service and the butler never got these minimal requests right!! I saved my biggest problem for last. I love the beach and love lying there in late afternoon until about 7 o'clock by myself or just strolling the beach. The first time I did this I was surprised to see some of the less desirable local peddlers walking the "private" hotel beach. I was approached by two, in full view of security, and was harassed with such comments like "baby I know what you need,I know what you want" Not comments a woman alone on the beach wants to hear. It was extremely frightening. I went to security, who watched the whole scene. I was told that hotel policy was to allow peddlers on the beach after 5. I was actually scared and complained to hotel management. The General Manager, Ms Sonia N told me that Jamaica government policy was that during the day everyone had a right to be at the waterline but not on hotel property but after 5 the hotel allowed outsiders on the sand but not allowed to harass guests. However, she could not tell me how this policy could be enforced. The hotel solution was to increase the hours for security but still no solution for how to control what was said to hotel guests. I was followed on the beach in subsequent days and had other inappropriate remarks aimed at me. As I told the General Manager, if a guest feels endangered and intimidated on hotel property it can not call itself a five star hotel no matter how good other things might be!!! For this reason I would rate the Grand a one star hotel but because of the wonderful hard working hotel employees I would give it three stars and would never consider going back to this Iberostar. Management does not compare to Punta Cana!!!

Nice Time in Jamaica

Spend 6 nights from July 6th to July 12th. Arrived early and had to wait awhile for the room. The receptionist was very nice. Looked for us at the pool when room was ready. We took a room on the 3rd floor because they told us it was an upgrade. Room was very nice. Never lacked for anything(toiletries, etc.). The restaurants are all pretty close to each other. We ate at buffet every night, always a theme night or a good variety of food. We did eat at the surf and turf one night. The beef tenderloin was very good. The people at the resort were very nice and very attentive. The Star Team(entertainment) were very good at keeping the guests active and entertained. The shows at night were just ok. I spent about 99% of the time at the beach. I love sea water. Very clean, clear and warm. The pool area was also nice except for the area where the bar was located. Way too noisy and crowded. Overall nice vacation except for extremely noisy pool area.

I LOVE the resort BUT some of the staff isn't quite trustworthy!

Let me start off by saying my husband and I loved this resort so much, that we came back a 2nd time and brought all of our immediate family with us! That is how much we loved this resort. I always say its the people that keeps me coming back. Everything about the trip was what everyone else review has mentioned already. There was a really bad smell in our room and it wasn't quite clean in the bathroom but they handled that almost immediately and moved us to another room! My biggest gripe is that some of the staff are truly friendly and truly want to help and others can't hide that they don't want to be there or their frustrations with guest. My husband and I went to spa courtesy of the resort for going on the presentation. We went and we enjoyed the ladies. We laughed and then everything went silent because it felt so good. I ended up taking off my Adidas Fit Watch and placing it into the bathrobe and forgot it was there. I didn't remember until about a few hours after. I called over and over again and no one could seem to locate the watch and I felt that was SHADY! They gave me the run around - saying it was down in laundry and they had no way of knowing. And even one young lady told me it wasn't there without even looking in the "lost and found" So I felt it was SHADY all around. I fill out a lost and found form but i don't truly believe it will be returned. Thats my biggest and only GRIPE about going to this resort. Its not the first time I've lost something and NO ONE seems to know where it went. I don't trust that no one knows. I believe that maybe they kept it for themselves. I don't know. Anyway, thats it. Hopefully someone finds it and it MAGICALLY appears in the mail.

Top rate and friendly service from our arrival to our departure . The staff is exceptional and the rooms are spacious and clean. Check-in went smoothly with Junior, and our porter David was great. I have to thank our butlers Reynaldo, Ojay and Shane for making us feel at home and taking care of our wants and needs. They were amazing and made our stay exceptional. I also have to thank Donavan who was not our butler but attended to our needs as well, he's fantastic and should be Head butler if you have such a thing. I also need to thank Hashtag, my Jamaican son,Hakeem in the pool area, Chef Corrine and Kareena from the omelette station for looking out for us. We traveled as a group of ten and we had a great time and would recommend this hotel for sure.
