Food at Iberostar

I became very ill after dining at the resort; I was sick the entire vacation. My husband became ill as well after five days. We are still trying to recover from the intestinal issues. Very disappointed in the food quality and the restaurants at the resort. Expected better.

This was the third Iberostar Grand that we have stayed in. The rooms were much smaller than in Jamaica and Mexico but the resort itself was awesome. The beach was the best of the 3 and the pools were very nice. Our butlers, Starling and Melvin, were great. Very attentive but not overbearing by any means. Whenever we needed them, we were able to find them and they got what we needed in a timely manner. The staff at the restaurants were great - especially Bily at the buffet. By far the best waiter we have ever had. Overall, it was a great vacation and a resort I would highly recommend!

We loved nearly everything about the Iberostar Grand! Our room was absolutely stunning, as was the view from our private balcony. We were greeted with cool towels and cold drinks while we checked in setting the perfect tone for our honeymoon. Our butlers, William and Boom Boom were great! They stocked our mini bar with my husbands preferred beer choices. They also made reservations at the restaurants for us; our favorites were the Japanese and the Surf & Turf. The breakfast buffet and omelets were great! The rest of the food (specifically the Italian restaurant) was a huge let down, given this is an all-inclusive resort. The staff was incredibly nice, accommodating, and genuinely happy to help guests. If the food were better, I would highly recommend this resort.

Overall cleanliness was excellent. For the most part, all of the staff were courteous and helpful. The room was comfortable and clean. Regarding the food, and I am not a picky eater, but there were very few meat choices for us having a traditional healthy American diet. The food choices for buffet were mostly catered to Europeans. Huge disappointment for us with food choices. Also, unless you are a repeat or in the Iberostar Club and you want to eat at one of restaurants at the resort, be prepared to wait at your table forever. The service in the restaurants is catered to repeat guests and club members. Everyone else gets disregarded, so much so, that we witness time and again couple getting up and leaving. Seriously.

I would highly recommend this all inclusive resort. We were greeted by friendly and efficient staff upon arrival. The stay could not have been better. From the friendly staff, the delicious food, the beach and pool area were all spectacular. I would highly recommend for a totally relaxing vacation. Apple vacations answered all my questions and guided me through the process without difficulty. Can't wait to go back :)

I have 2 concerns with this hotel. First is the saving of the pool chairs. Many are saved by 7:00 a.m. Many people are saving covered cabana's as well as chairs in the sun. The hotel needs to assign someone to watch the chairs and clear them when vacated. The other concern is the restaurants. We arrived on Thursday and could not get reservations until Saturday. Even then the only reservations we could get the next 3 nights were at 9:00 p.m. That's a little late for me. We've been to this resort about 6 times now. I really like it but will likely try another resort on my next Punta Cana trip due to these concerns.

I would recommend this hotel to anyone! If you want an experience where you don't have to lift a finger and want to have a worry free vacation, then this is the hotel/resort for you. The staff is beyond amazing. Everyone greets you with a smile and hello, the food is phenomenal and unlimited drinks wherever you are on the resort, and the staff will help you with any questions or concerns you have. I can't say enough good things about this resort, and it is absolutely beautiful. Every day we continued to be blown away by the beauty of the resort. Also, our butler Luis was great. He made our stay fabulous and made us feel completely welcome and comfortable even though we'd never been out of the country before. We definitely plan on coming back as soon as we can. Loved this resort!

Quality of resort has declined

Jun 25 2017
Just spent 7 days at the Iberostar Grand Bavaro. We have stayed at many all inclusives in Mexico, Jamaica, Bahamas, Republica Dominica. We stayed at this resort 4 years ago and I rated the resort very high. Since that time, the quality of the resort has declined. Pros: 1. General quality of the employees remains high. Willing to help, but sometimes difficult to get folks to understand English. 2. The grounds are well maintained. 3. The beach is wonderful. Crystal blue water and seaweed is cleaned daily. Cons: 1. The quality of the food has significantly declined. Food is very salty and either under or over cooked. The theme restaurants are worse than the buffet. Gourmet Restaurant - wife had filet and said it was great. I had the lamb and it was not edible. Japanese Restaurant - don't expect any show, most food cooked at grill behind the tables. Italian Restaurant - we both had what they call lasagna, just ground beef covered with loads of cheddar cheese, no noodles or ricotta, was very greasy. Surf and Turf - had lobster and ribeye and were OK, but a little tuff. I do understand we all have different tastes, but this is compared to other all inclusive resorts and to this resort just 4 years ago. 2. Pool was really in bad shape. Tiles missing, adhesive in gaps, odd tiles added to some missing spots. 3. Friends team must have been under a lot of pressure to many times daily to ask if anything was wrong. I tried to respond honestly one day, but then get into a long discussion of the issue, not what I wanted to be doing on my vacation. 4. Wife and myself both got sick about the 3rd day. Did not leave the resort or drink the water, even though they say it is ok. Not sure what we ate to cause our illness, but had to be from the resort. 5. Rooms are in need of updating. Really telling their age. Items broken. Maids however did a great job of cleaning and towel art. 6. Had some personal juice we brought from home stolen from the fridge. We were extremely disappointed to return to a resort that we had previously highly rated. Sad to say, but we will not be returning to the resort. We love the Iberostar Grand Collection, but this resort does not live up to those standards.

The hotel well exceeded my expectations. From the check in to the day we left the hotel staff could not have been nicer and more attentive. We had some food allergy issues and our chef Altagracia made sure she was at every meal to attend to us and make sure we had food that we could eat. Our butlers Rafael and Jose were amazing in helping us with dinner reservations and to make sure we had everything we needed. The beach and pool area were both very lovely and the pool and beach servie were also amazing. Overall it was a great vacation and would do it again without in a minute!!

The hotel was very clean. Pool was very nice. Beach area very nice. Plenty of beach chairs, despite the fact people came early to save seats and did not use them. My biggest complaint about the hotel was flies all over the food, even the indoor restaurants. Nothing you can do about the flies in the outdoor restaurant by the pool, but the indoor restaurants should have some kind of bug zappers by the door. I had 2 flies die in my cup of hot tea one morning. Looked like a mass suicide attempt. I kept my plate covered with a napkin to prevent flies from landing on the plate. The restaurant reservation system could be improved. People make reservations, then do not keep them, which leaves others locked out and empty tables. The food was very good, and lots of variety, but not true 5 star (in my opinion), but if you go hungry, it is definitely YOUR OWN fault.

Our 9 days at Grand Hotel Bavaro was spectacular! From the minute we checked in to the minute we left, the staff was amazing! Our butler, Rafael, was there for our every need and very attentive. I came down with a cold the 6th day we were there and he checked on me twice a day and made sure I had a hot bath one afternoon! He’s the best! The food was wonderful and plentiful! Suly and Jhonny were the best sommeliers and the choices in wines were fabulous. The wait staff at every restaurant were thorough, fun and great. The pool bartenders did not disappoint with the drinks they made and the Beach service with Keurlin and Tobias was awesome. We loved our bottles of champagne! The lobby bar and Cigar Bar, Yenni was wonderful, were fun to be in at night. My only request is that the hotel get ESPN so we can watch the Bowl games at night. We were saved on New Years Day when the general manager hooked his laptop up to the tv in the Cigar Bar and he was able to get us the Rose Bowl and Sugar Bowl. You can’t beat that service!!! We are going back next year and we are looking forward to seeing all the wonderful people there again! Thank you Iberostar!

Wonderful second trip to this resort. Traveled New Year's week 2018. The place looks amazing - no harm from last year's storms. Service was excellent, and the resort continues to be relaxing and tranquil throughout the day and evenings as an adults-only resort. Cordero, our butler, is a star. He really "led the way" as far as service was concerned. Smiling, friendly, eager, and paying attention to every detail, he excelled at communication and delivery from start to finish. He listened carefully and followed through. He is the kind of butler anyone would want, and the resort is fortunate to have someone with his skill-set amongst its ranks. Someone in his role really sets the "tone" for your stay here. Cordero set the right tone and delivered on his word, and was a great "face" representing the great service of the resort. Other folks that deserve a shout-out would include Merary, the manager at the Surf and Turf restaurant, who we love to see, is always friendly, outgoing, down to earth and overall, special. She really represents the "best of the best" as far as the food service side of the resort and treats guests as "one of the family", so important to folks that are fortunate enough to go to a place like this. Puche is also a star at the resort, and we always looked forward to seeing him and his excellent service. Then there is Tobias on the beach - excellent service and friendly and funny - we had some great laughs. Rodriquez, the quiet, friendly groundskeeper and man that trims and scales large trees with his machete, is always one of our most favorite of staff and a great asset to the resort. LeBron, or Starling, on the star friends staff is also a favorite. His humor and kind ways will take him far in life and we enjoy seeing him. And Anthony at the pool area was spectacular. He always made us feel at home. And there were so many others, from room service, to the cleaning crew, to the cooks and waiters - too many to list. If you go, be sure to inquire about when you can see Ariel, a guest singer in the Lounge/Lobby Bar. She is probably one of the most amazing young talents you will see on your trip - a truly phenomenal singer. She is only there twice a week for short sets, at 9:00 in the lobby lounge area, so ask for her and do yourself a favor - hear her sing! You will be impressed!!! They should give a whole concert show of her singing. We love going here and will be back. Some highlights, both pro and con: Pros: • The beach area is great, well-manicured throughout the day with plenty of palapas. • The individual restaurants are great as well as the breakfast buffet. • The property is spacious and clean, conveying relaxation. • Pools are beautiful. Rooms are thoughtfully laid out and quiet. Cons: • As of January 1st, 2018, the all-inclusive wine list at the restaurants changed and is much more limited, and frankly, of much poorer quality. Disappointing... • Be prepared - Towels in the guest rooms are shockingly coarse, flimsy and thin. The resort is first rate, but we cannot figure out why the towels in the rooms are so, well, sub-standard and of such low quality. • Smokers abound, so be ready for that everywhere at the resort, especially the beach and lounge areas. Much of this is prohibited where we live, so it is a bit of a shock to be in the midst of it. • Music in the restaurants is of questionable choice, sort of odd, "one-hit" 80's pop/rock amidst classic settings and formal dinners. They should have appropriate tranquil dinner music at the specialty restaurants... • Beef is great here. But last visit they had Kobe beef on the menus. This time it was changed to Angus. Not a big deal, but worthy of note. • Finally, in an effort to be environmentally friendly, they seemed to have eliminated drinking straws at the resort, which proves difficult sipping pina coladas and daiquiris and other frozen drinks at the beach or pool. Having to drink a frozen drink by tipping it toward you was a bit odd and cumbersome... Overall, we continue to be impressed with this resort. Their service is hard to beat. We look forward to going back.

We stayed 12/27/17 - 1/2/18 The lobby is gorgeous. We were greeted at the front with a refreshing towel and escorted to the desk where we were quickly met with glasses of Champaign and the check-in process began. The clerk was very efficient and through. Rooms were ocean view on the 4th floor and the views spectacular. Rooms are well appointed, good sized with nice balcony and housekeeping was fantastic. The entire property is well maintained and beautiful. There are many chairs and cabanas around the several pools but we did have to get there early ( 7am) to get one. There are plenty of huts on the beach and we never had an issue getting one. The beach is gorgeous. Not sure if the seaweed is a seasonal problem but there was ALOT of it. However the beach cleaning crew did a fabulous job cleaning it up EVERY DAY. These guys deserve a big WAY TO GO!!!! Shout out to the two pool bar tender guys that took very good care of us. We asked for Jose Curve and they went to the lobby bar to get it for us!!! And shout out to the lobby bartender that worked in the evening. He was also very attentive. I did tip these guys a couple of times and they took care of us. Food and service at the specialty restaurants was fantastic. The Star Entertainment Team was fantastic. There are plenty of activities and the team makes you feel welcome to participate in any or all of the them. Darts, bocce, bow and arrow, rifle, putting, volleyball, etc, etc, etc. And there are many water exercise activities and the instructors are fun! The work out room is first class. We e-mailed the resort before arrival and had all of our reservations done ahead of time. Buffet food was pretty good (not bad) just as good as buffet food can be. Great variety. Butler service - my daughter used hers a lot. My wife and I used ours very little. I would highly recommend this resort. Message me with questions.

I did not want to leave.....

Where do I start? The physical environment was clean and beautiful, the food was delicious from the buffets to the specialty restaurants. Although the best in our humble opinion was the French and Japanese restaurants. The nightly entertainment was top notch. However, what makes this resort stand out from others is the amazing warm hospitality of everyone! Thanks to Robert and Suly who had my back with the lattes on the beach and creating speciality coffee drinks. Kayle was sweet and attentive. The tennis with Jose was fun and we absolutely loved Samantha for our yoga on the beach. Looking forward to coming back soon.

I travelled to Iberostar Grand with three friends for seven nights starting December 29, 2017. The property is beautiful and well maintained. As other reviewers have noted, although the resort was almost at 100 percent occupancy, it never felt crowded. There were a couple of minor hitches; we had requested two beds in both rooms (we booked through Expedia) and upon arrival found out our rooms had one king bed. We were told during check-in there was one double-bed room available, but it would be further away from our second room. After a few minutes, we were told even that room wasn't available. We decided to roll with the punches, and found our rooms to be comfortable and relaxing. Our rooms looked out over the buildings at the property next door, so we didn't have much of a view, but we didn't spend much time in the room. The second hitch was with dinner reservations, which is a very imperfect system. Our butler, Frandy, came to our rooms immediately and told us he would secure our dinner reservations. One of our party has a gluten issue, and Frandy assured us he would inform each of the chefs/kitchens. That didn't happen and she had limited options for the specialty restaurants. The third hitch was with New Year's Eve dinner reservations. We did not get a reservation for the Gala Buffet and instead had dinner at Casa de la Playa. Most of our fellow diners had just arrived at the resort. The restaurant is beautiful, the service was impeccable and the food delicious--we just wanted something more exciting for NYE. Outside of the gluten issue, the food at the resort was delicious. There is a variety of well decorated, professionally staffed specialty restaurants, Italian, surf and turf, Japanese, French. Three of us were very satisfied with our meals. Our butler, Frandy, was friendly and efficient; we just didn't have many special requests. The entire staff is warm, friendly and accommodating. I spent most of my day at the beach while my friends preferred the pool. After the first two days, we realized we needed to go down at 7:00 am to secure pool seating that afforded some shade. I wish the staff would enforce the rule of not saving seats for more than 2 hours. Frequently, there would be prime spots at the pool that were not used for 4-5 hours. One of my favorite late afternoon spots was the patio off of the open air lobby. I could relax with a drink, my book and chill listening to the daily entertainment from the bar area. We were not interested in the activities for this trip--we just wanted to relax, swim, read, drink blended drinks and eat good food. One of our group did go to two shows and did enjoy those, and we all enjoyed the Chill performance on the boat. We met several people who are repeat customers at this resort--in fact, this was visit 12 for one couple. We can certainly see making this resort our go-to winter break destination.
