Our stay at Iberostar Cozumel
LYNN W.
Mar 08 2019
Our week at Iberostar was absolutely great! The staff are friendly and super helpful.... they really work hard to make your stay exceptional! The food and service in each restaurant was always to our liking and a wide variety was always available. The hotel rooms were fun in that they are separate "bungalows" with a balcony and hammock. The beds were a little dated but all the other aspects of our vacation made this very unimportant to us. The beach was great and the pools are so relaxing and never too busy. We definitely want to return again. We cannot wait to come back!

Honestly, we don’t even want to waste our time rewriting our complaints. We have given a complaint to our travel agent, the onstaff Apple vacations rep at the resort and our complaints have been submitted to Apple. Worst travel/trip experience we’ve had in our 6 years to the playa Del Carmen/Cozumel/Riveria Maya area! Did not get the trip we paid for, not even close. So much lost time complaining with no results. We feel that our group of 8 were treated asjust a number and do not plan to return to an iberostar.

This is a little difficult to judge because we actually ended up at two different resorts. I will say this, Iberostar Cozumel was not too bad for the price we paid. Staff was friendly. HOWEVER! Midway through our vacation the water and AC went out at the hotel. We were asked to move to Iberostar Maya which we accepted. They paid for our transportation. When we arrived at Iberostar Maya the run around began. We were told we were being moved to Iberostar Del Mar but that we would have access to the rest of the resort and we would have dinner reservations every night. (we were Star Prestige at the original resort) This was a lie!!! FLAT OUT LIE. We received no supper reservations at all. NOT ONE! We tried but were always told they were booked. So now were are stuck at the furthest building away from everything and stuck eating buffet type food every night. NOT WHAT WE EXPECTED AT ALL, NOT WHAT WE WERE TOLD WHEN WE AGREED TO MOVBE AND NOT WHAT WE WERE TOLD WHEN WE ARRIVED AT IBEROSTAR MAYA. We go somewhere every year. Last year we used Delta Vacations. In the past we have used Apple and I believe once we used FunJet. This whole experience left me doubting if we will ever return to an Iberostar and left me questioning if we would use Apple Vacations again. We will see what the report we filed with our travel agent does. We wasted a day of our vacation being moved from one resort to another (which we agreed to) only to have a the main part of the day wasted with the messy check in and chasing around with the concierge trying to get the reservations we were promised. Normally we are very easy going people that do not complain about much but that whole day was wasted and the rest of the stay was less than enjoyable. Hope fully someone can do something to change the way this mess is handled in the future and give me answers to why we never recieved what was promised. Extremely disappointed group of 8 travelers.

We were enjoying our stay however a few nights in the air conditioning and water went out at the resort making it not a comfortable stay. We were then transferred to a different iberostar resort and got downgraded from our star prestige package to the lowest hotel on the resort . Again multiple calls had to be made because the room wasn't cooling. The last night the air didn't work at all. We had a lot of hassle at this resort as well and lost a lot of travel time which was a huge disappointment. We were promised dinner reservations and never received any at all, again another huge disappointment. I personally would stay at another resort next time I travel.

We had a great time. It was a change for us since we usually go to resorts that resemble hotels. We enjoyed this resort because of the flora and fauna throughout the resort. The food was top notch compared to other resorts we have been to. Our room was clean and the maid service did a great job of making sure we had clean towels and restocked our refrigerator when needed. One downside to the resort was the beach area. The beach was very rocky so it wasn't easy to get out into the water without tripping or stubbing a toe. My wife and I have told our friends we would not hesitate going back to this resort.

My wife enjoyed the resort smaller than past resorts so easier to get around. Staff was excellent and cleanliness or resort was excellent! Plan on returning to resort and bringing more friends! The 2 other couples we traveled with also expressed desire to return. They were happy with stay and enjoyed the resort.

I most definitely would come back to this resort. The entertainment was amazing (& included). I will say that the wifi was slow, and a lot of the same meals were served along with the lastest the bars are open was 1am, but I had so much fun.

This was my second visit. The first time we loved the property and the service. This time it was really hit or miss. Unfortunately due to poor service this will be our last visit to the property. Let start with check-in: Check-in took about 15 mins there was a line of people checking in when we arrived expected since we were on the same flight. But they surprised us with when we were told we would have to pay a $28 environmental fee on check-out. It would have been nice if we had been warned ahead of time. They don't take Amex but luckily another person in the party had a Master Card. We were handed keys told our room number signed a bunch of paper and then the guy checking us in walked away. No explanation about how to get to our room or even a bell boy to help us find our room. I had to motion over another women who was working check-in to ask how to get to our room. We were shown a plastic map and made our own way to the room lugging our own luggage since there was no help to be found. Very disappointed in the level of service. The room: Since I had been prior it wasn't a surprise. It is a very small room with no space to place luggage. I would recommend adding a drying rack to the room deck, so wet things can dry. Only thing was the room reeked. It smelled awful. As a result all our clothing was saturated with the smell by the time we left. Because of the humidity the beds always felt slightly damp. They were also very hard and uncomfortable. There was also an issue with the air con, it was set on frigid . We tried turning it off even raising it to 26 but the room was freezing. I'm not sure if the front desk didn't understand when we called to ask if it could be fixed but nothing was ever done about it. Dining: The food was actually really decent a majority of the time for a buffet. I would recommend skipping the speciality restaurants in favor of the buffet. We didn't find the steak house or the Mexican restaurant to be anything really wonderful. Service: We found it to be hit or miss. We tipped $2+ every time, we did get a waiter. Even if they only got one drink and the server would forgot to get the second drink even after waiting 20 minutes for them deliver it. That happened a couple time, they would asked if you would like another drink we would reply yes and no drink other drink ever came back. We found a lot of times certain parties got better service the waiters seemed to cater to them. It wasn't everyone, we couldn't determine why they got better service. Maybe they tipped better? Some meals we wouldn't even get a waiter I started just getting my own beverages. There didn't seem to be enough staff for the amount of people dinning. When I was here last there seemed to be more wait staff. Grounds: The grounds were gorgeous. They had a very tropical vibe. We especially loved looking at the cats, iguanas, flowers and the flamingos. Pool and beaches: be prepared to get up at the crack of dawn to get a pool or beach chairs. People were already out there at 5:30 AM. The would throw a book, shoe, or towel on the chairs and not return to them until after 11am. A majority of the chair didn't have people in them, Some reserved both pool and beach and they were only used part of time. You also have to compete with people who buy day passes. There were also of people on day passes when we were there. Also present were a lot of spring breakers. Apparently this resort doesn't have rules about people under 25 not staying by themselves. The spring breakers were heavy drinker, and always around the bar. They drank excessively and couldn't handle their liquor. Nothing like seeing a bunch of kids crying since they couldn't handle their liquor. Not the atmosphere I was looking for. Pool itself it fine. The beach is really only accessible by the dock. There was a large number of boat in the area around the ocean swimming area. I didn't feel comfortable snorkeling because of the people who drove their jet skis in to the swimming area more than once. Nothing was done about them. The swimming area is really small. I would recommend going down toward the Allegro or Occidental both of which have a lot larger area for swimming. Check-out: Well it took close to 45 mins to check out. A lot of people were checking out at the same time. But there is no reason for it to take so long. You really need to work on speeding up the process. When we checked out the environment fee had changed to $11. No explanation why. But it seemed like they were charging what ever the check-out people wanted to. The group next to us was charged $9 for their environmental fee. They were a group of 3 people and yes I know they were there as long as we were since they had been on our plane. So it felt like another fee that the check-out staff just determined by how they felt like that day or minute. It left a bad taste in our mouths but by the time we made it to the front we just wanted to leave. We will not be returning to this resort. There are other higher qualities resorts that are available for the same price.

Beautiful location and exceedingly friendly staff.

The warm and friendly staff are the gems if this resort. While not overly luxurious, the resort is painstakingly maintained and clean. Every one here works very hard. I don't ordinarily mention names when I review, but a few people really stand out. Marcelino in guest services is always ready with a smile and a greeting, Alicia in the lobby bar is as sweet as can be no will remember your drink order. At the steak house, the manager, Luis, was always attentive as was Felipe. The sommelier, Cesiah, was thoroughly professional and extremely knowledgeable as well as friendly and helpful.

Felt like I was home when we arrived. Greet you right away asking what you would like to drink. Everyone is so nice and polite. They work so hard keeping the grounds clean and your rooms are clean! Fridge is stocked with soda and beers. Plan on going once a year. Beach is raked every morning! Snorkeling is great off the pier. Food is excellent! You won't be disappointed! Fresh lobster tails just down the beach.

Everything was great. The front desk and star prestige staff were so friendly and helpful. The rooms were just right with a nice hammock on the deck. The diving was excellent. Some things that really stood out - YOGA with Erika was excellent! The SHOWS were amazing with the best Entertainment Manager - GILMER ... who can also dance and throw around a Fire Stick - impressive! The food was even better than Lindo which is hard - the restaurant staff were all so nice, especially Amando! A special thanks to Erika from Star Prestige who helped organize everything for us (I highly recommend to anyone going to pay to get Star Prestige - it is worth it + you get an included massage)! I highly recommend this resort ... it is a nice size and everything was just right! We'll be back!

This was our first trip to Cozumel and our second stay at an Iberostar. Iberostar Cozumel was absolutely wonderful!!! A few things about our stay: 1. We booked the Star Prestige and it was well worth the extra money. We had red and white wine, champagne, and a fruit tray in our fully stocked room. The private area with the pool, bar, and beach access was phenomenal. We loved having a private bar with impeccable service. There were very few people there which was really nice and made our trip so relaxing. There were always delicious snacks in the bar area and the staff is eager to please. We especially enjoyed the services of Guolencio in the evenings. He was so friendly and treated us like royalty. 2. The food was very good! We ate at the Japanese restaurant twice and at the Tex Mex and Steak House one time each. Two nights were at the buffet and one night was in a boat on an excursion. For lunch we went to the lunch buffet near the pool. We didn't eat breakfast daily, but when we did, we ate at the buffet. Buffets had so many food choices and the specialty restaurants had several nice offerings. We were able to get reservations easily. 3. We only attended 3 night shows as we enjoyed sitting in the Prestige area having the quiet area to drink and relax instead. Many nights, we were the only couples there so we had the bar completely to ourselves. The Rock Music night show and the Beach Fireshow were very entertaining. It was fun to see the entertainment team all over the resort. Their enthusiasm was infectious. 4. We were able to easily book excursions through the hotel. Our Delta Vacations Rep Israel was able to find the tours we wanted including the Pirate Ship Lobster and Steak Dinner, Snorkeling , and a Jeep Tour. We would HIGHLY recommend all of those excursions. 5. The grounds and animal life at the resort are spectacular. You can snorkel right off the pier and be surrounded by fish. The entire staff made us feel welcome and appreciated. We would love to get the opportunity to be able to return to this resort.
