Our stay in Cozumel
LONNY L.
May 14 2018
The resort was very nice, the service was excellent! The food was typical buffet , not bad but not great. The water around the dock was awesome for snorkeling, there is not a beach, it is mostly rock and coral but it was still great, a lot of sea life! There is a dive shop at the resort and they seem to be great! I highly recommend it!

We have stayed at different all-inclusive hotels in Mexico through the past 10 years but this was by far the best. It was clean, the staff was great and the entertainment was by the the best I have seen. They have a night where they have a live Fire show on the beach. It was like nothing we have seen live before. It is an excellent hotel.

Iberostar Cozumel

The overall resort was pretty good. We thought the food was mediocre, at best. Most desserts had no flavor, very bland. At check in, we were asked if we would mind a room with 2 queen beds? We said we didn't. When we got to the room, it was 2 double beds. This made it very uncomfortable and not restful at all considering we have a king bed at home. We didn't ask to change rooms because we liked the location of the room. After a couple nights though, we regretied that decision. Most of the staff was friendly but some didn't greet guests or even smile as you passed them. They looked like they didn't want to be there. The only reason we would go back is because of the convenience of the dive shop and that would be the only reason we would recommend this resort to anyone.

This was the second time we have stayed at Iberostar Cozumel. We will definitely be back for a third! The staff is great and very friendly. We love the jungle feel of the resort and it never seems over crowded. The food is outstanding for an all inclusive. I would absolutely recommend this resort to anyone.

We had a wonderful experience at Iberostar. The staff was friendly, the beach was beautiful, and the food was awesome. This is the best buffet we have experienced at an all-inclusive. The rooms are small and simple, but completely met our needs. After all, who goes on a beach vacation to sit in the room? This was an excellent vacation for a great value. We have never repeated a visit to any place we have been, but we have already talked about returning here!

We had an excellent time. From start to finish our trip was amazing. When we got to the Hotel in Cozumel we were greeted by friendly staff who took us back to the resort. There the greeted us at the door and again at the font desk with refreshments. They took our luggage to our room. All of the staff were amazing, always smiling, always courteous, fun, interactive. The star friends were awesome and interacted with guests throughout our stay. A special shout out to two of our bartenders Roger and Ivan. There was also a young lady who made special trips for us! Our friends love Roger, and he has become their extended family while on vacation. The snorkeling excursion was amazing, and the jeep tour was very fun and informative. I dont think there was anything that we had to complain about. We will definately vacation here again and we will highly recommend this resort to friends and family.

The hotel and grounds were lovely. The front desk staff and Apple staff onsite at times rude and not helpful. Getting to and from the airport, ferry, and hotel was a nightmare! The Apple staff was not organized and caused my family to lose half a day at what should have been spent on the beach - it took 4 1/2 hours from landing at airport to transportation arrival to hotel. Ridiculous! I would book Iberostar again but never through Apple Vacations.

Iberostar Well Worth the Stay

Second stay at this resort. Very happy with service and facilities. Staff VERY friendly and helpful. Made sure to tell front desk they and STAFF did a very nice job and that we were very happy with stay. Beach bar and pool bar may be a little under staffed, but people working do an excellent job of fulfilling orders! Ivan and Laura at the beach deserve extra kudos for the service they provided. Very friendly and willing to please. Only complaint would be we were not recognized like others as returning customers. Mentioned several times to front desk. Not a deal breaker. Apple agent at hotel very friendly and helpful. Booked a boat and snorkel trip with after staying. Very helpful in helping us renting Jeep at resort with another agent. Felt that we had to make multiple trips to front to talk to agent about return taxi to airport, but was quick and fit in while at front to eat breakfast. Will plan to stay at Iberostar in future and will more than likely book through Apple Vacations. Make sure to review where to meet agents when arriving at airport. People inside airport VERY insistent to get you to their place of business and misrepresent themselves to keep you from meeting your Apple people OUTSIDE the terminal. Nice to have return taxi to airport lined up by our Apple agent at resort, made multiple trips to visit worth it.

Here for the diving...and the fun

My wife and I had a ten-day visit at the beginning of May. It's her fourth time staying at an Iberostar (second for Cozumel), and my second. We try to go diving twice a year, and Iberostar Cozumel was a good selection. It seemed like half the guests were divers, but we were still able to meet lots of people who got their kicks just on the surface. For a trip like this, an all-inclusive is a good choice. With our focus on a single activity, finding and getting to other locations for food and entertainment would have been difficult and a waste of time. Here, everything was taken care of. Iberostar Cozumel was also an economical choice, offering facilities nearly comparable to much more expensive properties. However, one of the major deciding factors was the Dressel Divers is on the site. This is a top notch dive operation, and the convenience is an asset. A bonus for visiting at this time of year is that it wasn't crowded. Our impression was that it might have been operating around 50%, based on the empty tables at both the buffets and the a la carte restaurants. The only "congestion" was the availability of chaises at the pool, with too many guests making "towel reservations" of the more desirable locations. There's really no hope for this. Our room was compact, but comfortable. We could have used a couple of comfortable chairs, rather than the upright dinette chairs we had. The standard fitting for the patio is apparently one lounge chair (wood, not padded) and a hammock. As seniors, we weren't ready to risk the hammock, so we had the staff tie it off and bring another chair. Unlike many resorts we've been to, the hot water was plentiful, perhaps too plentiful, since the cold water pressure was low and we almost got burned once or twice. The bathroom was marble floored and of adequate size, with a very nice shower. All the restaurants provided tasty food, with good variety. Each night, the dinner buffet has a featured theme--oriental, cajun, Mexican, etc., complementing other selections, including a pizza/hot dog/burger bar for the kids and less adventurous eaters. We ate in each of the a la carte restaurants--Steakhouse, Oriental, and TexMex, all quite enjoyable. Peacocks and peahens roam the ground, happily squawking the news of the day (or whatever peafowl squawk about). This resort is the right size, with a pretty easy walk to just about anything. Our room was close to the beach and the dive shop, but still within reach of the lobby and buffet. When we were too tired for that, the bellhop was available for a golf cart ride. The Star Friends topped off the enjoyment. Whether taking care of kids, running games at the pool, or performing in the evening show, this energetic group of talented, attractive young men and women completed the experience. We went to several of the evening shows, enjoying them all. At least almost all, as the sound level at the rock and roll show drove us from the theater to escape back to our room. The fire show was a unique experience. There's not too much to do outside the resort. One day, we toured the San Gervasio ruins. The only practical way to do this is to hire a taxi. Be sure to arrange for the taxi to wait at the site, since there's no other way to get back. It cost $US60 for the taxi. There's also an admission charge, and you can hire an individual guide for $US20, which I recommend. If you want to shop, a taxi will take you to town. It's easy to get one to bring you back. Although we didn't do it, there are exchange privileges with the Iberostar in Playa del Carmen, a scenic ferry ride to the mainland. The 5th Avenue shopping district is just off the ferry dock, so you can have an interesting day. Staff, rooms, food, entertainment, and a beautiful site all add up to an enjoyable experience.

Another Great Visit

Returned here after about a year and a half. This visit wasn't quite so rainy so got to enjoy the amenities of the property. Returned here with 5 friends for a diving vacation. The accommodations have been updated a bit since last time (maybe because of some of my suggestions?). There is a dresser with some drawers in it now and a little table and chairs to sit at. Nice additions. The rooms are always very clean, and the cleaning staff are quite nice, and make sure everything is stocked well, including beers in your fridge. And of course, always lovely towel critters left on your bed after each room change. The food was always delicious, and although I'm not a seafood lover, there was always a good selection for my friends of tuna and salmon and other delights. The pool bar is always a fun place to hang out and we met some really fun people to have some good pool volleyball games with. I was able to see the 4 or 5 cats we befriended last time we were here. They all are still looking very good. The peacocks and other wildlife around the resort make this a unique place. Very comfortable place to stay, you would not be disappointed unless you like those 5 star really high end places.

This resort is older and small, however the staff and entertainment was amazing, we made so many friends, the shows at night are great! They have one pool and we lived in it our entire vacation. Had such an amazing time i would visit again. I was Leary at first due to the lack of things to do but between meeting amazing fellow vacationers and the nightly shows and pool and beach games this vacation turned out to be a blast! I will say the food is not the greatest, i have had better at other resorts.

There are a lot of places in the world we'd like to see but we keep coming back here. The resort is just so quaint and beautiful. Service is amazing. This trip the front desk staff were exceptional. We paid extra for ocean front and got the hut right aside of the dive shop which had us concerned about noise in the morning. The first morning I got up and went out of my room about 8 am and there was a bunch of divers there and I didn't hear a peep in our room. It really was private enough even at that location. The white noise from the air conditioning muffled any noise. We slept well. Love going this time of year as it is slow and you can always get a good seat the pool or beach. We love the wildlife. We always venture over to Alberto's next door a few nights and have a great time. We will be back! Thanks for a relaxing week.

Third visit

We love this resort. We stayed here for the third time and will return again. We come for the diving and Dressel Divers are the best. The resort is quaint and the bungalows don’t feel like you are in a big box resort. The rooms were renovated since our last stay and the place looking great. It is nice to see the flamingos are doing well though less than last time. The peacocks and iguanas are a real treat. The service is excellent and the staff appreciates a tip now and then. Especially the beach servers who walk through heavy sand all day. I wouldn’t want to stay in a room near the pool or dive shop, especially if you like to sleep in or want to sit on your porch and relax. We tried all three speciality restaurants but you need to reserve right away when you arrive. The Tex Mex restaurant was our least favourite but is still good. The portions are really small so we ordered two main courses. One night the neighbors decided to have a loud 3am party, argument outside so we called security to come and quiet things down. Security came but did nothing so we called again. This time the manager came and told them to keep it inside. A but if lost sleep before our early morning diving. Other than that night, things were fairly quiet. Another great eight night stay. We hope to return in a couple of years.
