The hotel staff was great and always friendly and very helpful. The added touches like flowers in the room and the special dinner was great. The buffet had lots to choose from but the food quality in the buffet and ala carte restaurants was just ok. The beach, even though the staff did a good job of cleaning up the seaweed needed more attention. I can’t say enough about how good the service was everywhere in the hotel and the maid service was excellent. Improvements in food and the beach would definitely make this a much nicer resort.

Many staff were friendly and well trained, many were not. Frequently the bars did not have the top shelf liquor as advertised. Some bottles had clearly been either diluted or they put a much less costly liquor in the bottle. For example: a bottle of Tanquery Gin at the beach bar was not even Gin. Gin has a very distinct flavor and that was clearly NOT Gin. Frequently when going into the buffet area there were empty tables but they were all still had dirty dishes. Maybe it was a staffing issue, but it seemed that there shouldn't be that many dirty tables during breakfast & dinner service. Consierge Manuel Gonzalez was OUTSTANDING. Very friendly & helpful. He speaks 4 languages and is very informed about the hotel services as well as local areas.

First of all most vacations are what you make of them. 2nd time there probably the last , Hotel overall was O.K. Beach had too much sea weed and the locals who are hired to clean it daily did poor work , Swimming Pool outdated and not properly maintained, Food was O.K. I have been to many Iberostars this time it was not recognized even after I told them a couple times starting at check in Amstar travel products are bonafide tourist traps , As experienced travelers in the D.R. Overall we had a good time on vacation.

The staff were excellent overall but we were disappointed by the cups and trash still by the pool, on the beach and throughout the resort every morning. The Apple Rep misrepresented 2 of our excursions One was a city tour and he told us as long as we had 6 it would be private but we were loaded on a bus with 8 others and he told us the bus ride for one excursion was an hour and it was 2 hrs 20 mins! The beds were incredibly hard . The 3 specialty restaurants were excellent. The liquor was lower end then what we expected and are used to. The fitness center was the best I have seen in 12 years of resorts Overall I would say good medium level inclusive

Hotel room was average, we did upgrade to the ocean view which was nice but all rooms appear to be the same and could use some updating. Being that this on the Atlantic side don't expect the white sand of punta cana, but it is still very nice with palm trees. Big down fall is the lack of beach chairs and condition of them, honestly if you aren't out there at the crack of dawn you need to hunt for one! The food, service and attitude of the staff was excellent! The people working there really did make the stay here worth it.

Beach could have been cleaner. Food was okay. Not much variety on the buffet so it was kind of repetitive. Very busy on the weekends when the locals came in. We liked the quietness of the Puerta Plata area but the resort is too small if you are staying for longer than a week. We only stayed for 1 show at night. After listening to the first 5 singers for karaoke singing in spanish (they were all local people) we left. Iberostar needs to change their entertainment at night. This is the 5th Iberostar that we stayed at and the shows are almost the same. This is not a 5 golden apple resort. More like a 4 golden apple. We have stayed at 4 red apple resorts that were nicer than this one.

Exceptionally clean! The staff is friendly, young and very helpful! I have never seen a place where everyone works so hard to ensure that you are taken care of and happy. I had to touch the grass to see if it was real ! The views from every room ( garden/ocean) is beautiful . I felt very secure on this resort. Just the right size ... Not too big ...easy to walk... Especially for the elderly . Highly recommend . Thank you for a beautiful vacation . Larry from Amerstar was special !

We stayed at the Iberostar Costa Dorado in early December. The grounds are spectacular with shady palm trees, fountains and landscaping. The lobby is beautiful. The pool is huge and attractive with tons of shade huts and loungers so you never have to worry about getting one. The same goes for the large beachfront. We walked for miles along the beach. The rooms are nice and kept very clean, although clearly overdue for a renovation. One building, number 5 beachfront, has been recently renovated with nice rooms, albeit with inconsistent hot water problems management was working on. The food and service everywhere in the resort was very good. The best drinks were found at the lobby bar. The nightly entertainment was very good, especially the Rock Show which the Baby Boomers enjoyed. Overall we enjoyed our stay. A few items to note: it becomes crowded and loud on weekends around the pool and buffets when locals stay at the hotel, but returns to peaceful on the weekdays. There is quite a bit of seaweed on the beach and in the water. There is a lot of smoking in common areas of the resort and on the balconies ( although not in the restaurants), which was a turnoff to us.

Amazing resort I travelled week of November 19th for 7 days with my family to Iberostar Costa Dorada on recommendation from my travel agent. It was close to airport and not too crazy busy or over crowded. The weather was bright and sunny each and every day and was great to get away from the winter weather. The food was decent and we tried Japanese restaurant which was our favourite as well as Mexican a la carte. My daughter enjoyed herself at the kids club. She was always kept entertained the and participated in the childrens nightly shows. The adult nightly entertainment was awesome. Loin King show was our favourite and well done. Our room was cozy and spacious with a nice bathroom and balcony stocked daily with beer soft drinks and water. We were visited by peacocks daily walking the grounds. There were cats around but kept to themselves for most of the time. There were lovely ponds with flamingos and turtles by the main entrance. Everyone spoke english and it was easy to communicate. The check in/out experience was good. I would like to thank Christina and Naomi at the concierge desk for their warm hospitality. The bartenders: Marlon, Lito, Juan at Theclub bar. Leonardo and miguel x 2 at the pool bar. I had an amazing massage. We went to Ocean world as a day trip and swam with the sharks. The sea lions is the best show and would book that encounter next trip. They have a little beach and aquatic centre as well. My recommendations: 1) Pool revonations is a must. Concrete was falling apart in pool, at swim up bar and pool bottom so our feet got scapes. Pack water shoes. 2) Beach was a little rocky and full of seaweed. They had to shovel it daily but did not get to it too late in afternoon. Perhaps have it done early in am as it took hours. 3) Private washroom on the beach for Theclub members and snacks. Overall it was an amazing resort and birthday trip and looking for visiting more Iberostar resorts worldwide.

Come for the beach but come back for the people.

Amazing week spent in the sun and the sand. Quite literally the best staff I have ever had the pleasure of meeting. Our room was great, the beach is incredible and the food surpasses what one expects at a resort. What sets this place apart is the daily interactions with the Entertainment Staff. Shout out to Espaghetti for getting us out of our chairs and to Kevin who can guilt you into a workout with his smile alone. We chose the upgrade to the Prestige Club and were glad we did. The concierges were so accommodations and saw to all our needs, particularly Marlon with his daily greetings at the beach. Everyone was wonderful and we cannot wait to return.

Great Second Visit

If the Iberostar Costa Dorada (ICD) is in your price range, you can't go wrong. I wouldn't to call it a 5-star hotel because obviously if you want to spend more you can find something better, but we paid $1000 USD/person for 1 week. In his price range, you'll be hard pressed to find something better than the ICD Hotel Grounds/Rooms The hotel grounds are totally immaculate. Every inch of this place is manicured and beautiful. The rooms are dated but spacious and have lovely large balconies. There are no robes in the rooms, but there is a complimentary mini bar which they fill every day. Not a great variety of TV channels but that didn't bother me very much. Comfy beds and housekeeping is amazing. The room is always clean. Beach/Pool The pool has a swim up bar and is lovely, but we didn't use the pool so it's all I can say about that. The beach is long enough to have about a 1 hour walk, end to end. Unfortunately the ICD is located at the part of the beach with the most seaweed so you have to walk around it. When swimming in the ocean, we walked about 3 minutes west as there was little to no seaweed nearby. There were lots of vendors who could be pushy. We found them annoying. There are lots of beach loungers. I found the newer grey ones to be very uncomfortable though. The yellow ones don't look as nice but I liked them much more. Food The food was very good. we had a large variety from ribs to lobster to paella made on the beach. If you eat meat, you won't go hungry. I tried to make healthy choices while I was there and enjoyed a relatively low carb diet - it's possible! of course I indulged - it's a vacation. There was ice cream and delicious churros. We went to all 3 a la cart restaurants and none really stood out except the Japanese as it was a unique experience. The buffet had a different theme every night. Latin, Asian, Mexican, Dominican, Tex Mex, Italian. I do wish the hotel posted the weekly schedule so you could plan your a la cartes accordingly. There were times when food was scare - between 5pm and 6pm and after 10pm. The nacho snacks were great! Drinks The sugary drinks were delicious, but neither me nor my partner drink a lot. Not a lot of top shelf choices. mostly local brands Staff/Entertainment Can't say enough here. There's nothing they won't do. Very helpful and engaged and probably work way too hard. Our one complaint about the service is that it was SO good but we didn't come with enough $1 bills. We had to stand in line every morning to either be told that they could only change $10 or to come back later. I understand that everyone wants $1 bills so they run low but they should really be prepared. We are trying to pay the hard working staff. After bringing it up to the manager we got enough for a few days, but having to stand in line each morning and having to escalate it was annoying. They should make it VERY easy for us to spend money at their resort. If you plan on tipping, bring lots of dollar bills so you don't have to make change Other 1. The smokers at the resort made it impossible to enjoy the evenings. No matter where we sat, a smoker sat near by. It was disgusting. It smells bad, it's toxic and just plain annoying. This one thing alone would make me pause before i booked here again. There needs to be a non-smoking area because it's very off-putting to be around the awful smell all evening. 2. There was free wifi throughout the resort. I will NEVER stay at a place that does not offer free wifi. It is a strong signal and we only had to log in once for the entire week. we had 2 devices each. 3. Not the hotel's issue, but something to be aware of - the Puerto Plata airport is awful. No online check in, very long lines, no airport speakers to announce when flights are boarding so you just have to wait around until the last person boards. They also took about 20 minutes to give our flight the necessary paperwork to take off. Just brutal 4. There's a weekly beach party at night and a highly disco. We never went to the disco but the beach party was a nice way to change things up 5. They do not serve straws at this hotel. Top marks for being environmentally responsible 6. They offer a prestige package for $40USD/person per day which we did not get. It's a new program so right now we didn't see any real benefit other than a small coffee lounge and a secluded outdoor seating area. It looks like they are building a new bar - not sure if this will be for prestige clients only or not. Bottom line is right now the package isn't worth it, but as they tweak it, the value proposition may improve.

This was our second time at the Iberostar. We got a room very close to where we requested via Email. We had a great time,Everyone that works there was super friendly. The grounds were maintained really well. We only ate at the buffet because there was always great food There are theme nights at the buffet every night. The beach was great. Part of the beach seems to gather seaweed some days but they work hard at removing it. It tends to get windy at the beach in the afternoon. Peacocks wander the resort all day and there are cats that like to visit everyone. Overall it is an older resort that is beautiful and everyone there does their best to make your vacation fun. Really friendly staff.
