Many staff were friendly and well trained, many were not. Frequently the bars did not have the top shelf liquor as advertised. Some bottles had clearly been either diluted or they put a much less costly liquor in the bottle. For example: a bottle of Tanquery Gin at the beach bar was not even Gin. Gin has a very distinct flavor and that was clearly NOT Gin. Frequently when going into the buffet area there were empty tables but they were all still had dirty dishes. Maybe it was a staffing issue, but it seemed that there shouldn't be that many dirty tables during breakfast & dinner service. Consierge Manuel Gonzalez was OUTSTANDING. Very friendly & helpful. He speaks 4 languages and is very informed about the hotel services as well as local areas.

First of all most vacations are what you make of them. 2nd time there probably the last , Hotel overall was O.K. Beach had too much sea weed and the locals who are hired to clean it daily did poor work , Swimming Pool outdated and not properly maintained, Food was O.K. I have been to many Iberostars this time it was not recognized even after I told them a couple times starting at check in Amstar travel products are bonafide tourist traps , As experienced travelers in the D.R. Overall we had a good time on vacation.

The staff were excellent overall but we were disappointed by the cups and trash still by the pool, on the beach and throughout the resort every morning. The Apple Rep misrepresented 2 of our excursions One was a city tour and he told us as long as we had 6 it would be private but we were loaded on a bus with 8 others and he told us the bus ride for one excursion was an hour and it was 2 hrs 20 mins! The beds were incredibly hard . The 3 specialty restaurants were excellent. The liquor was lower end then what we expected and are used to. The fitness center was the best I have seen in 12 years of resorts Overall I would say good medium level inclusive

Hotel room was average, we did upgrade to the ocean view which was nice but all rooms appear to be the same and could use some updating. Being that this on the Atlantic side don't expect the white sand of punta cana, but it is still very nice with palm trees. Big down fall is the lack of beach chairs and condition of them, honestly if you aren't out there at the crack of dawn you need to hunt for one! The food, service and attitude of the staff was excellent! The people working there really did make the stay here worth it.

Beach could have been cleaner. Food was okay. Not much variety on the buffet so it was kind of repetitive. Very busy on the weekends when the locals came in. We liked the quietness of the Puerta Plata area but the resort is too small if you are staying for longer than a week. We only stayed for 1 show at night. After listening to the first 5 singers for karaoke singing in spanish (they were all local people) we left. Iberostar needs to change their entertainment at night. This is the 5th Iberostar that we stayed at and the shows are almost the same. This is not a 5 golden apple resort. More like a 4 golden apple. We have stayed at 4 red apple resorts that were nicer than this one.

Exceptionally clean! The staff is friendly, young and very helpful! I have never seen a place where everyone works so hard to ensure that you are taken care of and happy. I had to touch the grass to see if it was real ! The views from every room ( garden/ocean) is beautiful . I felt very secure on this resort. Just the right size ... Not too big ...easy to walk... Especially for the elderly . Highly recommend . Thank you for a beautiful vacation . Larry from Amerstar was special !

Wonderful and one of the best holidays

We visited Puerto Plata and Iberostar Costa Dorada for the first time and it was amazing. The service was excellent, food and drinks were very good. We stayed in Rm.1009 with beautiful, breathtaking ocean view and it is worth it. Enjoyable time on the very private balcony. Room was big, clean with good working air conditioner. For our son, extra bed was already in the room, before we asked. Great service! From our previous experiences, why is also Iberostar Costa Dorada better than some hotels, we stayed before: - we eat seafood paella with lobsters, another day seafood pasta with lobsters on the beach for lunch. At different hotels, we got the extra charge for lobster dinners on the beach. - WIFI is free and works everywhere excellent. - Safe box is free. - We paid for late checkout $ 10.00/hour and it is very smart and good for us. Our bus to the airport was at 06:00 p.m. - Lots of sunbeds on the beach and on the pool. Never had a problem to find it even in the shadow. The pool was big and clean. -Peacocks are everywhere. Flamingos, turtles and ducks in the main lobby. We would like to say THANKS to Leonardo from the main buffet and concierge Miguel from the lobby. Always friendly and happy to help us! Sorry, we do not remember all names but big thanks to all Iberostar employees for hard and great work!!! Do not read the negative reviews, remember if you smile at someone smile will be back to you! Enjoy the beautiful weather, sun, ocean and good atmosphere!

Great value, great service!

This was my second time at this resort and it didn’t disappoint! The location of the hotel is very convenient as it is only about a 20 min drive from the airport. Upon arrival, check in was quick and the staff were very accommodating with our requests. The rooms are a little dated, but so little time is spent in the room with such a wonderful pool and grounds that are exquisitely decorated! The beach is not white sand and there is some natural kelp and seaweed floating around, however, this is nature at its finest:) The beach and pool have plenty of shaded options! The food is very good with many choices (including gluten free items at breakfast!) and the drinks are yummy too! The Mexican and Japanese restos were delish! Few tips: - Bring an insulated thermos for drinks. - Bring American money (small bills) for tips and purchases, as all places on the resort accept American cash. - The internet was surprisingly fast and included (no internet fees!) this time around - The in-room safe is bolted to the wall and is included as well (no fees!) - Towel clips would come in handy for beach lounging since it’s very breezy at this location (the pool is somewhat sheltered from the warm ocean breezes) - Ocean view room was worth the upgrade! - The Star Prestige upgrade didn’t really seem worth it to us and it didn’t seem very popular for the dates of our stay; the Prestige beach area is not in the best location. I would suggest staying a night or two without the Prestige upgrade to scope out the perks and then decide to upgrade for any remaining nights if it seems worth the cost. - The Spa is magical and the ‘signature massage with hot stones’ was even more wonderful than it sounds. If you have money to splurge with, go to the Spa at least once during your stay (and bring your swimwear because you get to use their jacuzzi tubs after any Spa service). It is so relaxing! This is a great resort to have fun and relax. Go with an open mind. It’s not a 5+++ star resort, but it doesn’t claim to be. It is a fantastic hotel that provides excellent value and has staff that are hard working, very professional, and fun! Enjoy your stay!

My son and I just returned home from the Dominican republic and stayed at the Iberostar Costa Dorada. The services were good, food and drinks at the maximum. The shows were entertaining - the Utv's and the Outback Safari was fun. We would also like to acknowledge Yokaira and Willy for their friendliness and attention. I would tell anyone whose looking for a great vacation spot where they should go. The only negative thing I can say is the beautiful noisy peacocks. I never knew they make such a ruckus - but they are beautiful birds enjoying their surroundings.

Relaxing Vacation

My husband and I traveled to Puerto Plata the last week of May. This was our first trip to Dominican Republic and our first time at an Iberostar. We really enjoyed our relaxing week. From Pittsburgh Apple Vacations offers a direct flight, just a short three hours. Travel from the airport to the resort was a breeze, only 20 minutes. Check in was fast and easy. Our room wasn't ready upon arrival, 11AM but we were able to change into our beach gear and start enjoying the beautiful day right away. After lunch we went back to the front desk and was able to get into our room by 2PM. We first met our concierge Sabino after checkin, he escorted us around the property and told us all about the facilities. Sabino checked on us throughout the week answering questions about the area and things to do. We really liked the person touch. We stayed in Building 1, Room 1214 with an ocean view. We really liked the location. The room was good size with a mini fridge restocked daily with pop, water and beer. Margarita was our maid and not only was the room keep clean she was also very friendly and always greeted us with a smile. As for the beach, it was beautiful. Unfortunately at this time during the year it is very windy so we could not stay at the beach all day. We did walk on the beach in both directions in the late sfternoon and the wind wasn't too bad if you walked in the water. Luckily this is also the off season so we were able to move to the pool after lunch and was always able to find a place in the shade. No towel games at the resort! Food...good. Breakfast was great. I loved the lunches prepared on the beach especially the seafood. The dinner buffet was ok, Wednesday was the best because it's Dominican night and they served lobster tails! We did eat at the Mexican restaurant and it was ok, the service seemed a little disorganized . We also went to the Japanese Steakhouse, it was fun and we enjoyed our meals. Each evening after dinner we would head to the lobby area and enjoy the variety of entertainment. The band's and shows were nice and the service was great. There were several servers walking around making it easy to get a cocktail or two. And the bedt thing for me...no MOSQUITOES! I am usually a magnet for bitesin the evenings but I did not get any during this trip. During our time in Puerto Plata we took a taxi downtown and to the cable car. This is a must do in the morning to get the best views. We also did a half day trip on UTVs with Outback Adventures which was really fun. A couple tips: 1. Bring an insulater mug for drinks during the day. It will keep them cold and keep out the bugs and sand. 2. Ladies cut the tags out of your swimsuites. If you don't they'll annoy you or stick out. Overall we enjoyed our vacation. The one thing that stands out at the Iberostar is the staff. Everyone we encountered was warm and friendly. I felt the staff really went out of their way to say hello and make you feel welcome. I would definitely consider a future trip and will recommend to friends and family.
