Iberostar Costa Dorada

Overall had a nice relaxing vacation. We've stayed at several Iberostar resorts in Punta Cana, Mexico and Jamaica. The Costa Dorada was not up to the usual standards of the others we've stayed at. Not as well maintained or clean as we're used to with Iberostar. Not too bad, but not as good as usual. Just not as clean and well maintained. Food and drinks were on par with others. For the price we paid, we are fully satisfied. I will add this is the first Iberostar where we've been solicited to attend a "time share" type breakfast presentation to hear the Preferred Club sales pitch. We declined the invitation and were left alone about it after that.

The hotel staff was great and always friendly and very helpful. The added touches like flowers in the room and the special dinner was great. The buffet had lots to choose from but the food quality in the buffet and ala carte restaurants was just ok. The beach, even though the staff did a good job of cleaning up the seaweed needed more attention. I can’t say enough about how good the service was everywhere in the hotel and the maid service was excellent. Improvements in food and the beach would definitely make this a much nicer resort.

Many staff were friendly and well trained, many were not. Frequently the bars did not have the top shelf liquor as advertised. Some bottles had clearly been either diluted or they put a much less costly liquor in the bottle. For example: a bottle of Tanquery Gin at the beach bar was not even Gin. Gin has a very distinct flavor and that was clearly NOT Gin. Frequently when going into the buffet area there were empty tables but they were all still had dirty dishes. Maybe it was a staffing issue, but it seemed that there shouldn't be that many dirty tables during breakfast & dinner service. Consierge Manuel Gonzalez was OUTSTANDING. Very friendly & helpful. He speaks 4 languages and is very informed about the hotel services as well as local areas.

First of all most vacations are what you make of them. 2nd time there probably the last , Hotel overall was O.K. Beach had too much sea weed and the locals who are hired to clean it daily did poor work , Swimming Pool outdated and not properly maintained, Food was O.K. I have been to many Iberostars this time it was not recognized even after I told them a couple times starting at check in Amstar travel products are bonafide tourist traps , As experienced travelers in the D.R. Overall we had a good time on vacation.

The staff were excellent overall but we were disappointed by the cups and trash still by the pool, on the beach and throughout the resort every morning. The Apple Rep misrepresented 2 of our excursions One was a city tour and he told us as long as we had 6 it would be private but we were loaded on a bus with 8 others and he told us the bus ride for one excursion was an hour and it was 2 hrs 20 mins! The beds were incredibly hard . The 3 specialty restaurants were excellent. The liquor was lower end then what we expected and are used to. The fitness center was the best I have seen in 12 years of resorts Overall I would say good medium level inclusive

Hotel room was average, we did upgrade to the ocean view which was nice but all rooms appear to be the same and could use some updating. Being that this on the Atlantic side don't expect the white sand of punta cana, but it is still very nice with palm trees. Big down fall is the lack of beach chairs and condition of them, honestly if you aren't out there at the crack of dawn you need to hunt for one! The food, service and attitude of the staff was excellent! The people working there really did make the stay here worth it.

Overall this was a clean and very friendly place to stay. Beach and pool areas were nice. Some of the entertainment was horrible (my opinion) but some of the shows were a lot of fun. Some of the restaurants good some just okay. We all enjoyed our vacation! A good time was had by all!

Beach could have been cleaner. Food was okay. Not much variety on the buffet so it was kind of repetitive. Very busy on the weekends when the locals came in. We liked the quietness of the Puerta Plata area but the resort is too small if you are staying for longer than a week. We only stayed for 1 show at night. After listening to the first 5 singers for karaoke singing in spanish (they were all local people) we left. Iberostar needs to change their entertainment at night. This is the 5th Iberostar that we stayed at and the shows are almost the same. This is not a 5 golden apple resort. More like a 4 golden apple. We have stayed at 4 red apple resorts that were nicer than this one.

This resort is outstanding. Great food, grounds are immaculate but makes this a 5 stars is the staff. The staff works so hard to make your stay memorable it is crazy. Once we stepped out of the bus we were greeted by Manuel and he made sure to make us feel comfortable and safe, he gave us a tour of the resort and followed up throughout the week to make sure we had everything we needed. Thank you Iberostar for hiring employees that really care about vacationers and ensuring that we are treated like kings and princesses.

We stayed April 1-8, 2019 and had a wonderful vacation. Perfect beach, lots of beach chairs (not required to get up early to throw towel on chair), great service and pretty good food selection. Japanese restaurant was the best a la carte. Pool area was very adequate and room was clean and quiet. The grounds and maintenance of the site is well done. Some of the pre evening entertainment was very good. The evening shows are pretty much like all other resorts (very cheesy). Found the staff overall to be friendly and courteous. Wifi access was superb even on beach. Only disappointment was when you walked down beach off the resort areas there was a lot of garbage on beach-sad really how much waste in areas that were not maintained. Not a resort issue but a glimpse at what other areas of DR must look like. Overall I would say this is a 4.5 star resort and would go back.

We stayed with a large group for 1 week (24 of us) then a week as a couples vacation. Overall it's a decent resort that is made better by the people there. The good: -Great for groups. Even though we were told we are in the same building we were not, but the size and layout of the resort makes it not matter, everything is close. And they were always helpful to accommodate our group for dinners and such. -Quality of food is decent. There's some issues with the food I'll get to but for overall quality it's not bad for "resort food" -As I mentioned the people are great. Genesis is a waitress who is amazing, and William at the lobby bar is the best bartender they have. Everyone was awesome but these two stood out. -Great location. Quick walk into town, close to the airport, great beach, it's perfect. The bad: -Food handling/signage needs improvement badly. On a good day, you'll be very lucky if 50% of the buffet items are labelled (either correctly or labelled at all). There's never enough serving spoons for the buffet either which is an even bigger issue. For example my wife is a vegetarian, she asked if they had a spoon for a vegetable dish, so they pulled out out of a meat dish and just put it directly into the vegetable one. -Resort is dated and could use a solid renovation. In particular the pool NEEDS repair, its a good pool but our entire group ended up with cut up feet from the bottom being so rough. The rooms aren't great for power outlets, we only had 1 outlet in the room that could handle a larger wall plug, the rest were sunken in and if you don't have a small plug, you can't use it. Light switches are right on the bed headboards at pillow height and you will turn lights on and outlets off while you sleep. Overall we enjoyed the stay, it's got it's flaws but it's all stuff that certainly can be fixed. Tip: If you want to do a city tour, talk to the concierge and don't book through one of the agencies. They can set up a private city tour with cab drivers for far less than the booked tour prices. You can do all the same attractions but it's literally a fraction of the price.

Bad experience

First, unless you have $25-50k USD, don't bother with attending the "presentation" . Second, we were promised our room upgrade fee back for attending the presentation but apparently it's given back in Iberostar dollars vs put back on my credit card as discussed. My husband and I were happy to pay the upgrade fee but when this other staff member offered to hook us up by going to the presentation we thought, why not?! This was eventually done but not after having to take things up with management. Third, we had money taken from our room and the staff told me that maybe because my husband and my sister in law had a bit much to drink, maybe they took it...can you believe that?!! This is a long story but short version is that there was no concern or help for us. The staff made rude comments about me in Spanish but my sister inlaw speaks Spanish so she was able to tell me. I asked to call the police and one of the staff women laughed at me and said she doesn't know how to all the Police. I said well maybe they stole my stuff then since they're not willing to help and then another female staff member winked at me. Obviously at that point I had enough and began to yell and give back the rude comments. Like, how much is somebody supposed to take before they retaliate? At that time I was finally given the number for Police and the staff member that originally said she didn't know how to call Police told me to use my own phone to call the Police instead of the hotel's phone. We paid extra to go to an iberostar because we heard they were nice. It's an average hotel. Nothing bad aside from awful staff but nothing above and beyond either to make the hotel stand out. The following morning my husband and I paid to switch to the Be Live Marien next store and it was wonderful there. Equal quality and offerings with staff that went out of their way to ensure we had a good experience for the last half of our trip. at Iberostar our sunwing rep of course did their best to help us and Mario from iberostar management, I appreciated him trying to help us as well! He was understanding of the situation and went as far as to waive penalties for canceling the remainder of our stay when we wanted to switch hotels. My husband and I are truly grateful for that. I went back and forth on whether or not to write a review because in the end people like Mario tried to help us but the experience was just so bad that our trip was truly ruined because of it.
