Not a 5* hotel

We visited this hotel for 2 weeks in September although we did enjoy our holiday overall there are a few problems that the hotel needs to improve upon. ROOM: Our room was in block 8 opposite the lovely orchid garden. I would say that the rooms need updating now especially the bathroom. No complaints at all with the cleanliness, the maids do a fantastic job. It was a quiet room as on the opposite side of where the pool was, GARDENS: The gardens around the hotel are lovely, the gardeners also do a fantastic job. POOL: The pool was huge with a swim up bar and jacuzzi in the middle. The tiles and the bottom of the pool are in urgent need of repair and the filters did not seem to do their job properly as some days there was a film of scum all over the surface of the water which was not very nice. The staff did try their best to sort this out though. BUFFET RESTAURANT: A lot of people complained about the food but I can honestly say I always found something to eat that I liked everyday. They had theme nights on with fresh lobster, sushi and steak which was cooked to order. We only used this restaurant on an evening as we tended to go to the snack restaurant at the pool or had a couple of BBQ’s and paella on the beach on a lunchtime. A LA CARTE RESTAURANTS: We used all 3 and found we liked the Mexican one the best. BEACH: As it is facing the Atlantic Ocean it does get quite windy on an afternoon and yes it has seaweed but this was always cleaned up 2or 3 times daily. We only braved the sea once as some days the waves were too high but it was lovely and warm. ENTERTAINMENT: Not good - we watched a few shows in the first week but as we got to know other couples we just sat in the bar talking and drinking most evenings so can’t really comment on the shows in the second week. BARS: We found you had to tip the waiters/waitresses to get good service and drinks otherwise the service and quality of the drinks was a bit hitty missy. The only thing which spoilt our holiday was the influx of locals who inundated the hotel from Friday until Sunday hence why I have only given 3 stars to my review. I know that the hotel needs to fill the empty rooms but they need to have security around when they arrive as they are just allowed to get away with anything. The Tui rep knew about this but brushed complaints aside saying they are paying guests as well. After suffering the first weekend round the pool we went to the beach the second weekend to get peace and quiet. We just couldn’t stand listening to their music which they played on huge speakers around the pool, the drunkenness and the children who were jumping in the pool anywhere including from the pool bar - the staff or parents never told them to stop - I heard they were using drugs and even going in the pool in their underwear! We had huge families staying in the rooms either side of our room god knows how many they crammed into each room as we saw that they had 3 double beds in one of the rooms! We also saw prostitutes in the hotel on a weekend which the hotel knew about but again did nothing to stop. This was our second visit to Dominican Republic but we will never return.

Checked in sept 28 - Oct 5. Superior room. Was suppose to get turn down service every night . Only happen once. Resort very nice big pool. It was windy all week beach nice however red flagged every day except 2nd to last day yellow flag. If you go past tree line on to beach your vulnerable to the folks wanting to sell you something or bring you to the flea market. Beach grill food was discussing. The restaurant buffet around pool much better. This restaurant is also the mediterranean alacarte we had chicken it wasn't cooked. The Mexican restaurant wasn't much better. The Japanese restaurant wasn't bad . Buffet for us was the best choice. We still was expecting great food it's not much better then a 5* in Cuba for us. This hotel allows the locals to pay and stay on weekends . Lots of kids. The only place we found that tips were appreciated were at the Buffett. We had a waiter that had same table for our party for six always set up . We left $5 us every time we sat at Buffett. Giving tips at bars didn't really assure you good service especially if a local was beside you.?? Rooms were clean and comfortable.. If you leave more the 2 beers in your fridge the maid will gladly take whatever is above 2 beers. Suggestion if you want more beer take all beer out until your room was cleaned by maid the you'll get 2 more. You get my drift. Lots of wild life at least 8 cats that love to be fed. Lots of peacocks and turtles and flamingos in pond by lobby bar and Stage. Night life show of some kind and the usual Michael Jackson night . Whoo Hooo. We did 2 excursions the cable car and outback terra cross awesome ATV trip. Recommended .see review on trip advisor also cable car as well . Trip advisor section for ratings wouldn't allow selections so service was average . Cleanliness very good and value was average.

Great holiday but not 5 star

Rooms a bit dated but clean and plenty of towels. Staff and service very good the first week but second you could feel the difference as though it was the end of the season. Service not quite the same, didn’t greet you as you went into dinner, didn’t serve you drinks at lunch and had to get them yourself at the bar. Mainly little complaints that you don’t expect from a 5 star hotel. Grounds are beautiful although some tiles missing in the pool and beach is gorgeous. Entertainment on a evening, sorry to say they give their all but not up to expectations. All in all had a good relaxing holiday.

Staff and hotel.

The staff here were very friendly, polite and helpful. From the managers too the maids and entertainment staff. The hotel was clean the rooms were kept clean. The gardener's were always busy in the grounds. The only thing that I had a problem with, not enough coffee and coffee mate left in the room.

Summer Rest break

Returned home after 2 weeks stay, Can honestly say we had a wonderful break. Both in our 50s great weather, yes it rains in september sometimes 5 mins 5 times in a day otherwise Hot high 80s low 90s sometimes high cloud mostly sunny. Yes the sea has seaweed! And it comes ashore and on the Atlantic side the beach can be windy, we had 1 day were it was too windy to enjoy meal under palms. Rooms a little dated but perfectly adequate. Maids brilliant, cleaned every day, towels, sheets, brought whatever we left notes for. Used a electrical Mozi device in room 24 hours overall less than 10 bites between us over 2 weeks. Food what can I say, first day in buffet, went to chef cooking lobster/prawns he asked me to sit down as just started new batch and brought to my table plateful of gorgeous seafood. The A la cartes were good but as the food especially soups were brilliant we preferred the relaxed no bookings required of the buffets. Staff everywhere were always smiling Hola! Greetings dawn to dusk. The Whole management team were presented at the beach lunch during a lunch once a week as approachable professionals is needed. My only gripe was the influx of local arriving from Friday to Monday. Yes it’s low season and the hotel needs to fill rooms. Unfortunately the Dominicans enjoy loud music and bring boom boxes/amp and have no problem playing different sounds every 10 feet in addition to the hotel sound system. This gets very annoying especially when people move to quieter areas and next min a speaker arrives next to them. The hotel needs to understand most hotels won’t allow this and need to make a decision about restrictions were they can be used. Yes the bars, pools get busy and noisy with 500+ extra paying guests arriving for 3 days but adjust and it isn’t a problem! Earlier breakfast/dinner and move a little away from the pool. We found engaging with staff brings on a lovely smile and you can see the appreciation when applauded for their cooking, work or just saying hello rather than some ignorant people treating them like servants! I won’t mention names are there are too many! Overall Bravo Iberostar and all your staff, would love to visit you again. Andy & Trace (I smoked a lot of Cigars)
