This hotel is outstanding. The employees who work there give fantastic, friendly service. Having the parks included was excellent. There were so many little touches that made it an excellent holiday-from the rooms, to the hammocks on the balcony, to the extra touches provided while dining in the restaurants, to the beautiful grounds. I will be returning!

Gorgeous Hotel, Excellent Food, but overall Service and Follow Up is Lacking

We are members of Mexico Destination Club (MDC) at Xcaret. This is a gorgeous and luxurious hotel. Service was mostly very high-level. Friendly staff, mostly. Food was amazing. Spa was one of the nicest I have ever been. I would like to praise for this review, but I will rather concentrate on areas for improvement. Please know that we loved our stay, but there were some missed opportunities to treat Members better. I was trained in Customer Service and am currently a Process Improvement Consultant, so I will focus on those improvement opportunities for the hotel and MDC. Check in was not smooth. The person checking us in was distracted and not giving eye contact to us, never smiled, and kept talking with other workers, while she was checking us in. We did not feel welcome AT ALL. That was not the way we wanted our first experience to be as Members. The room we received was very nice, but it was not what we reserved. We reserved a King River View, yet got a Double bed River View. She did not explain this when we checked in and she should have. Our concierge took us to our room, but very quickly saw that we were going to get lost on our own. We did not receive a map, nor are there map kiosks to help guests find their way. We were not able to sit with our concierge until the next evening, to make our reservations for the remaining days of our stay. We did however, send an email the week before, with our requests for tours, park activities, and restaurant reservations. Only one of the reservations (Xel Ha) was actually made from that email. I wonder why only one of the reservations was made? Once we sat with and made the plans with our concierge, he told us to text him for any other requests. He handed us a written paper with the information and told us he would send us reminders about our activities. When we texted him, he did not respond for a day and a half, and only because we sent him a couple of texts to ask the status of one of our requests. He did NOT send us any reminders, nor did he check in with us to see how things were going, the entire rest of the stay. He also did not make our transportation reservation back to the airport, which we requested. We had an issue with our transportation from the airport to Hotel Xcaret, that he was to investigate, but I do not believe he did. Overall, the concierge service was not good. I wasted time going to the concierge lounge a couple of times, in order to ask questions because our Concierge was not responsive. So disappointing. As Members, we feel we should have better service. We did an "update" with the sales team, who wanted us to upgrade from Pearl to Silver. I asked for specific detail about the differences between levels, even talked with the sales manager, but no one ever followed up with us while we were staying at the hotel!! We actually WOULD like to upgrade to Silver. We also were not told when we checked in, that we should have gone to the MDC Member check in area, instead. I think that would have made a huge difference in how welcome we felt. We got lost several times, trying to find our room and trying to find Las Cuevas and the kayak rental. The hotel needs a better directional signage, OR provide a phone app for guests with maps and information. Our room was nice, but the perfumed air kept me up for the first two nights. I could not sleep because the perfume was so strong. I eventually got used to it, but you should consider having some non-perfumed rooms for those guests who are sensitive to smells. Our room was gorgeous. The craftsmanship of the decor is impeccable and so luxurious. I love seeing the stories on the Hotel TV about the craftsmen and artists. The room was cleaned nicely, but the housekeeper kept taking our washcloths!! I had to ask on TWO DAYS to have washcloths brought to our room. Our bathmat was removed and not replaced for the last two days we were there. Also, my Invisalign braces were on a tissue next to my toothbrush and the housekeeper threw them out! I was able to have my dentist send me replacements when we got back home, but it was and inconvenience. One of our chairs was missing a cushion, the lighted mirror did not work. We went to rent a kayak at 3:30 on Friday and no one was there. There were also no kayaks. We stood there for several minutes, waiting for a staff person to arrive to help us, but no one came. Disappointing. We took a tour to Xichen and it was wonderful. The staff person on the bus to Xel Ha for the transfer to the Xichen bus was terrible. He embarrassed me when I found out the bus was going to Xel Ha and not Xichen--he ridiculed me and told me to "Mellow out and relax" in front of an entire bus of people. I did not know we would be transferring there. That was unacceptable treatment of Members. Restaurant reviews: La Trajinera- Our favorite restaurant at the hotel. Wonderful food. Great service. Best views. Teatro Del Rio- We waited in line for 35 minutes to be seated--even with reservations and even as a Member- terrible!! There should be a separate line for Members. Food was nice, but sparse. We were still hungry afterward. Show was amazing. Waiter did not take our drink order, so we had to walk to the bar to get a drink. Las Playas- Very good. Excellent service. Las Cuevas- Very good. We got lost getting there in the dark. Could not see any signs because there is no lighting. Had to wait for 7 minutes for the hostess to come to the podium and waited another 15 minutes for a table! Even though a long wait, it was a wonderful experience sitting in the caves. Food was very good. Service was so-so. Mercado de la Merced- Very good food for breakfast. We ate there three times. Good service. We asked for and were seated on the side patio where it is quiet. Cantina los Faroles- Loved the live music (but very loud). Food was very good. Service also good. Chibali- We wanted a small meal one day and arrived at 4:45. This was the closest restaurant to our room and did not want to walk all the way to another restaurant. The hostess would not seat us because she said the restaurant was closing at 5pm, to switch to dinner. I said we only wanted a snack or small meal and would use self-service only. She still turned us away saying there was not enough time. This was unacceptable. Our tour guide for Xichen, Cesar, was so informative and passionate. He educated us on so many things about Chichen Itza and the Mayan people. This made the tour an amazing experience. We tipped him and the driver Rafael, very well, because of this. On our second to last day at Hotel Xcaret, we contacted the operator to be transferred to MDC in order to upgrade to the Silver level membership. We left a message with the reservations person, to have the sales operations contact us. They did not. On our last day, we contacted them again and left another message. They did not respond. The day after we got back home, we contacted THREE TIMES AGAIN, and still have not gotten a response. I also emailed, and still no response. For this reason, I am marking our overall score down to 3. Not getting a response from our concierge nor the sales operations department is ridiculous. Overall, we enjoyed the stay at Hotel Xcaret, but there was absolutely NO DIFFERENCE in treatment as a Member, so the only perk of being a member is saving 25% off of the hotel cost. It does not make us want to recommend or refer our friends or family to become Members. We talked with another couple who were members, and they had several issues too and felt unwelcome. They said their concierge was GREAT though. I hope we get a different Concierge than who we had this time. He was not good. We would love to be able to talk to someone about any of these issues in more detail.

8 Days in Paradise - Vegans Included!

We just returned from 8 days at Hotel Xcaret Mexico and loved every minute of it...even the day of rain! We would highly recommend this hotel to anyone, especially those traveling with teens. We traveled with a 13 and 17 year old from February 6-14th. The all-fun inclusive package was amazing and gave our teens something to do. Xcaret park is a 7 minute walk from the hotel (take the paved trail to the left of the boat launch) or a 10 minute boat ride. Wouldn't recommend the bus (you can walk or boat faster). We took hotel bikes to Xenses which took about 15 minutes. We did opt for the bus to get to Xplor which was a good choice as its the furthest park from the hotel (technically Xel Ha is but you need a reservation to visit that park). Important tip for women visiting Xplor...wear bike shorts over your bathing suit otherwise you get an interesting wedgie from the zip line harness! Do NOT wear a thong bathing suit. Our favourite reserved tour was the Xentoes. Amazingly beautiful and lots of fun. If you have to choose between going to either Xcaret or Xel Ha, we would recommend Xcaret. Xcaret's "lazy river" is shaded and you have more then 1 river option. They also have an awesome aviary and butterfly sanctuary. The horse show and the evening show are really good. Xcaret has an awesome mix of natural surroundings and preservation/education of the Mayan culture. Xel Ha's river is out in the bright sun and doesn't have as many attractions. There is so much to do at the hotel (river swim, SUP, spa, pools) and the food is AMAZING! It is true that the natural ocean beach area is small but we still enjoyed exploring and swimming in the Caribbean Sea. They have done a great job maintaining the natural flora and fauna which makes Hotel Xcaret feel and look magical. Now for Hotel Xcaret's best kept secret...their newest restaurant - BIO! BIO is located in a cave near the SUP/kayak rental area, and the view is only outdone by the amazing vegetarian and vegan food they serve. It is so nice to see a big hotel embracing vegetarian/vegan gastronomy. Caesar our server at BIO went above and beyond and quite frankly deserves a raise! We were also impressed with the 2 female cooks at BIO that take great pride and care in their plant based creations. If you are looking for healthy options that are easier on your waistline and the planet, you can't go wrong at BIO. They are open for breakfast and lunch. Please tell Caesar his Canadian friends say "hi". Bring sweaters for the evenings and water shoes for the parks. You also need fish safe sunscreen to float in the rivers at Xcaret and Xel Ha. Buy ahead of time or purchase at the parks. Eat the mangos and the papayas! Nothing like what we get at home. Don't forget to bring pesos or small American bills for tipping. The staff work SO hard, smile so readily, and are willing to help you with anything. They deserve some monetary gratitude. We loved our time at Hotel Xcaret Mexico and will go back. They are building a new hotel, but we were not bothered by any construction noise (we stayed in Viento building). The glass on the sliding doors in the rooms in really thick and blocks most noise. You do get a bit of noise from the hallway, but most people are respectful and keep the noise down after 10 pm. Do yourself a favour and book at this hotel. From the moment you arrive and are handed a towel to clean your face/hands and a fruit popsicle, to the moment you check-out you will not be disappointed. Oh! Some people have mentioned problems with check-in. They have improved the process and if you go with your appointed concierge they will fill you in on everything and walk you to your room. If you are tired upon arrival and not able to take everything in, just let them know and you can go back later and book tours/spa treatments/dinners. There is no pressure to do it all at once. Our concierge, Denisse was amazing. She was available all week to help us out. She was like our own personal trip advisor! Yes, she mentioned the "exclusive brunch" (sales pitch) but we politely declined. There was no pressure, which we were grateful for. Enjoy the treats in your mini fridge, the turn-down service, and the complimentary beach bag! Go now and book at Hotel Xcaret!

Our first night on resort after flying all day, we were starving... so Marketplace was recommended. It was an excellent presentation & so many stations you will definitely not be disappointed! Hipolito took great care of us, bringing my husband a spoon for his ice cream without us even asking! He was so pleasant & helpful... had a great time for dinner.
