Hotel and staff are first rate. The food in the hotel eateries were so good and the staff were great, we never ate at outside eateries

The worst front desk I’ve ever experienced

On arrival it took 45 minutes to give us a key from our room. Very slow and careless staff. We arrived late evening and were very exhausted and thirsty. In the departure we were few minutes late because my husband had temperature and fell asleep. I apologized the front desk manager that I’m couple minutes late and was charged 11$ for these 10 minutes. What? 5stars hotel??? Furthermore they charged us a dollar for a phone call to taxi driver because the staff was not able to do that themselves. I stayed overwhelmed. I travel a lot and stay in good hotels all around the world, but I never experienced behavior like this. Positives Are the staff in fitness, pool and deluxe lounge which is available for some extra charge per night. In Panama are many choices of great hotels for similar money, next time I’d rather pick Global hotel which was super good and the staff was really helpful and carefull.

Bad location

Nice place but cannot walk anywhere outside the grounds to check out anything near by. Had to take a taxi to go even a few miles and their minimum charge was $10 per person. Water taxi was only $3 round trip to a nice restaurant down the shore. The snorkeling areas were very limited. The excursion to the canal and surrounding jungle and lakes was great but you have to go on a Sunday or you ll be stuck in traffic most of the day. Excursions during the week are cut short because of this. People at the hotel were nice and the food was a lil above average.

perfect hotel

I must be fair and say that the tours from this place were ok considering the time we had left at the end of our vacation in Panama City. We bought the city tour. The Driver and tour guide was excellent and personable. It was our first time in Panama City. We had an issue with our flight into Panama City and we tried to move our check in to the following day. We called RIU and the person at customer service failed to speak fluent english, so my partner passed me the phone as he would not understand a word from her. My disappointment is not the language barrier, but the approach from her on the phone and the 'tone' as she took it personal. I politely asked her to move the check in date to the following day and she said she could not doing it, and that its it was done by an online agency then it had to be done through them. The bottom line is the RIU customer service was useless, leaving us in a situation where our request about changing the room were sent days before, no-one ever answered us, we lost one night which was paid in advance. I found that to be unfair. We will never book another room with this this RIU again. Some of the staff is either badly trained (Poor English) or lazy, I observed that mainly on women (very slow, catty and lazy) .... I put my passport on the edge of the counter as I was looking for something else and she actually a face and sound (of reaching far) like it was a huge effort to reach for it. I mean... I am a business person, I hire people in my team who goes the extra mile to please very demanding clients. I trained them to follow a process and one thing out that process is to leave out attitude, laziness, and arrogance. No one has time not the energy to witness that after a long trip from BOCAS del Toro in a hot day with traffic, while she is behind the counter with A/C feeling like a princess. Looking up and down while we were walking towards the counter. Body language could sometimes stronger than verbal (No one does that, it is rude). "We came from a 5* jungle rain forest secluded resort in Bocas and yes we probably looked rough ...LOL! All the guys, servers, drivers, moved fast, smartly, on the spot, picked us up on time....it was just amazing. From far the room and the space impresses the eye but after 10 minutes one feels is in a over used, neglected room. Overall it is just ok, with another year of use it will be not be. The view to Downtown Panama City from the 25 floor of course is amazing. I cannot deny it. Breakfast was ok if you are really hungry. I appreciate the eggs Benedict, but the béarnaise sauce was too thick, when I asked to the cook/chef what was the sauce he told me it was béarnaise so I tried it. It was not pleasant at all. The food was boring, the meat served was not tender, I mean the whole menu was cooked with lack of passion....except the omelette. I actually enjoyed it. Breakfast buffet traffic: Not sure if this is cultural, people were rude, desperate to fill their plates and eat as much as possible. embarrassing to watch or perhaps is the way management sets this buffet which is not supervised. there were a lot of locals there and noone knows how to wait for their turn. Drove me bunkers! the two mornings I tried breakfast. kids running around and mothers carrying food to the tables as there is no tomorrow. OMG. just relax. There was no host or anyone helping the customers getting their plates filled as they please but in an orderly manner! some food is hot in this area. Gift shop retail worker: she needs to be told that when a client walks in she actually puts her phone away and stops texting....and looks at the client and smiles. I was looking for a nail clipper and while she was texting she answered me by indicating with her finger 'down' the glass shelf where the nail clipper was....I honestly I cracked laughing ...i find that sooo lazy and rude. I could not locate it and she made of those faces 'again' and passed it to me. I bought it. I wonder if she really wants to sell anything? to anyone? why is she there? Pool: boring menu, again. Had caesar salad as we decided to go to Casco Viejo to eat. so I didn't want to eat a lot. I believe this was not understood and I was kept asking if i wanted more staff lol. I understand the server wanted to make a bigger sale but some people drink one beer and go and others stay for dinner. The music is too loud, way too loud to enjoy the patio...one cannot talk. Feels like a tiny Cesar Palace party town in Vegas! the pool is in a 'patio' no view to anything but skyscrapers. I didn't last 15 mins there the 2 occasions I decided to go and see what was going on. I also noticed the arrangement of the siting area was badly set...there was no capacity for a lot of people around the pool. Elevators: They just dont work. Scary thought. Sometimes they work on one side and sometimes they dont. No shampoo or conditioner. Thanks god I had mine. Riu and booking.com lost a customer. Not impressed with the location neither. I regret have booked RIU. I wish I could've booked another place with ocean views, which we asked and never got (Counter princess host was not easy to deal with). At the end of my review I have decreased my rating of this hotel from poor to terrible. That I don't regret.

Bad service but great breakfast buffet

First time at this Hotel. Since the front desk check in we had a bad experience. They were rude, couldn’t answer any of our questions. The worst... they charge you $12 for parking. Don’t have self-parking Rooms were ok. The TV was not working properly and it was difficult to connect to WiFi The Studio 50(bar) was closed before midnight on a Thursday night 😬😩 The best was the breakfast buffet. Really good, tasty, and great variety A lot to improve on this hotel. And I had other experiences st Riu hotels ( I.e Bahamas and Aruba) and were much much better
