We spent three nights here at the end of a tour. First the negatives. Our checkin was extremely slow - I think we queued for 45 minutes. Second, the food was not always good value at all. For instance, the stuffed mushrooms were in fact a few slices of mushrooms topped with cheese on three tiny pieces of bread each about two square inches, costing I think 24 US dollars. I had a Happy Hour mojito and could not detect any rum at all, or in fact any flavour, plus the mint was old and slimy. Other dishes were much better. Apart from that everything was lovely, the staff, the breakfast, the rooms, the pools, the animals. The place was very nicely finished, everything well built, double glazing, good beds, good sound insulation, etc. Very well kept grounds with gorgeous plants, varied wildlife and wonderful views. The beach down the road is beautifully situated but down a steep muddy path. It is a public beach with drinks stalls, but did not seem to have toilets, so probably not somewhere to spend a whole day.

Beautiful with amazing views!

We stayed here for 3 nights at the end of a tour extension. Our ground floor room was large with 2 big beds, bathroom and terrace. It was clean with a good range of facilities including aircon, bathroom amenities, tea/coffee (you had to ask housekeeping for milk). Although we didn't have a sea view, our room had a garden view and we had lots of opportunities for wildlife spotting, including toucans, capuchin monkeys, iguanas and various birds. There are fabulous Pacific views from the resort though, especially from the restaurant. The resort is large with a variety of room types including bungalows and multi-storey balcony rooms. It has 3 pools (two are adults only). There is no beach as the hotel grounds finish at cliffs, but there are beaches nearby which can be easily accessed. The grounds are extensive, with rainforest trails within the grounds. Unfortunately half of them were closed, but we did see plently of wildlife. They run a free shuttle bus into Manuel Antonio which has a beach, access to the National Park, shops, restaurants and bars. There is no late return though, you have to get a taxi back if you go out for the evening. We had one evening meal at the hotel, it was the best hotel meal we had on the trip. They struggled to cope with our large tour group, but the food was excellent. The breakfast buffet was also very good with a good selection of local and international food. All staff were helpful and friendly. We had a couple of issues though, which prevented us from scoring this 5. The check-in was a bit chaotic and our luggage took 40 minutes to be sent to our room. The other thing was the bar. They never served you, you had to go to the bar to get your drink. Not luxury hotel standards. Also, if you ordered a coke, it came from an individual bottle. They poured it into a glass and didn't give you the rest of the bottle that you'd paid for (not cheap in a hotel like this!). When I'm hot and thirsty, I want the whole bottle. They were very reluctant to hand it over, the barman even ignored a first request. Very strange!

Beautiful hotel, nice views, attentive staff.

Staying there was a wonderful experience. The breakfast buffet had everything that we could imagine wanting. Amenities and ambience were first rate. We had macaws in the tree just off our balcony one morning, staying around for us take some picture.

Very Nice Hotel

This is a good hotel with fantastic hilltop views over the Pacific, and rainforest of Manuel Antonio. We saw Sloths, monkeys, Macaws and Lizards to name but a few right there at the hotel. The Premium Plus Room was very nice with a great view. It was clean and comfortable and there were tea and coffee making facilities and a fridge. The restaurant was quite large and a little impersonal and the food good but not exceptional, and quite expensive. Breakfast was included and was plentiful. We did eat at the restaurant on the first night, but decided to go down to town on the following three nights. For one thing the wine was too expensive, 9 dollars for a large glass of not very good red wine, or at least 30 dollars plus for a bottle. We found that catching the last shuttle down to town for sunset and cocktails, and then eating at one of the many local restaurants (taxi back - very reasonable) suited us much better. This is probably just down to personal taste, but we found the local bars had much more atmosphere, being lively without being rowdy, and they were much better value. The pools at Parador were very nice, although the largest and arguably best pool is the family pool. We chose to use the smaller adult pool below (shadier and quieter .... although a bit too small), or the pool at the highest level up next to the little restaurant that does lunch and cocktails. It is a lovely quiet spot up there with great views from the restaurant, a nice place for a spot of lunch. Over all this is a very nice quality hotel, but just not my personal cup of tea. Too big, and too resort like for my taste. This was not the hotels fault, it was the fault of our travel agent for misunderstanding our preferences. We tend to prefer smaller and more intimate destinations. I would also have enjoyed a spa treatment, but once again the prices were stupidly expensive. No surprise that the spa looked very quiet. The staff everywhere were attentive and polite. A word of warning, this hotel is on a steep site, and although a few lifts, there are a lot of steps.

To say anything less than perfect is just ridiculous. I arrived to a pleasant young man at a ridiculous hour (3AM). He was so kind and such a breath of fresh air after such a long flight. My first room was not correct (size, number of beds, type of room) and changed immediately with me simply calling the desk. Every single person of every shift was beyond kind and respectable. One of my best vacations so far.
