If very good was a category in the rating system, a couple of the excellent ratings would has been given very good. Regarding the beach rating, there was an unbelievable amount of seaweed washing up all day every day. This is nature and should not reflect on the hotel. However, the water at the beach is loaded with rocks. This makes it very difficult to experience the water.

CHECK IN DESK STAFF

Feb 22 2018
After a long day of travel (due to weather) we were happy to finally arrive at the Resort. We are a married couple and clearly had booked an upgrade to a Junior Suite with a king size bed through our travel agent and Apple Vacations (we had proof of same on our itinerary). Upon check-in, we were advised by the desk staff that there were no Junior Suites with king size beds available as the hotel was full and that for the evening we would be in a room with two double beds and perhaps be moved the next day. After much back and forth and an argument we were provided with a Junior Suite with king size bed which mystically appeared in their computer system!

Not satisfied with apple service
RICHARD P.
Jun 20 2017
We have been using apple for almost 20 years & this is the first time ever that the service was horrible. They couldn't find our reservation at the airport. 30 mins later they finally did. Oscar at the hotel was the worst!!!! He was never there to help us. Also there was no apple party at the hotel. We look forward to that on every vacation & it's always been fantastic. Very very disappointed that there was nothing! Even though we have never had a problem with apple before after this trip we will be looking for another company & no longer recommending this company to our friends & family

The beach walking into the ocean was full of rocks that part was very disappointing and go in the water at all. Someone had a bow movement in the pool and the staff did nothing about it

A great hotel, good food, pools and staff. Only complaint is the reserve too many chairs for the "Platinum Members" that they are not even using. Beach is great but ocean is rocky.

Gorgeous resort! Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent, with many choices for both kids and adults. The only drawback is the ocean in front of this property is extremely rocky with lots of seaweed.

Bad experience

The hotel was over booked so we were unable to get in a room till after 4 and that was only for 1 night. We then had to be out by 12 and couldn't get into the new room till after 3 on Monday. We were told we were getting an up grade to an ocean view but the 2nd room was not better. Our free mini bar was never filled and our Apple rep was no help. If this was our 1st trip to Mexico I would never go back. There were more issues to lengthy to explain.

Rooms were great - large and very clean. Although the buffet was good, we found the specialty restaurants to be a little lacking. Very disappointed in the Mexican restaurant, as my 4 kids were expecting quesadillas and burritos, but the waiter didn't even know what that was. Pool was wonderful. Nightly entertainment was OK, but they need a bigger space as it is held in a small area by the pool and there were never enough seats. They could also use a stage, because the shows were very difficult to see.

Restaurant Reservations

I don't understand why it was so difficult to make reservations at the restaurants; they only allowed one reservation per day, and it seemed that the three restaurants on the property were always booked. When we did eat at one of the restaurants, they were only 1/3 or so filled.

The Main lobby has the best bar staff to start your morning off every day. Please say hi to Enrique and David on your next trip for me. There are others that were awesome as well, but these two got my day started right everyday. The grounds is very nice. The rooms are great. Food: It was ok Breakfast was awesome, lunch was good. I was not impressed with the dinners. My only 2 cents on suggestions. 1) Rent a car if you want to travel outside the resort. For the same price as a resort tour. I was able to see more and do more for a fraction of the cost. 2) Go for the snorkel tour and walk over to the Dolphin park. The crew for snorkeling was great and ok price. The dolphin place has the best exchange rate and prices for things close to that location to buy. Along with fish to make your feet soft... Strange at first, but feet feel wonderful.

Pros - Great pools, very fun family pool Beautiful grounds Awesome pool staff Kids club staff were wonderful Cons - - Arrival was a huge let down. We stepped up to the front desk SO excited for our first tropical vacation only to be met with a very bored and unhelpful employee. Front desk staff were super rude on every single occasion we needed them, even when they completely messed up our currency exchange. They tried to charge us more money for this mistake (and they did say it was their mistake) upon our check out and then ROLLED THEIR EYES at us when we expressed how frustrated we were. - There was literally no information upon check in, we weren't given a map, tour, no restaurant information, nothing. We had no idea what to do. When I asked for help, we were heavily pressured to attend the sales conference instead. No information about the resort was offered freely, it was like pulling teeth. - Tons of pressure to attend time share conference. Every time you speak to the concierge they ask you yet again to attend. - Towel cards, you have 1 towel card per person that you exchange for a clean towel. If you lose it you have to pay for it. Having to police my kids towels and cards is hardly my idea of a relaxing time. Luckily there are lots of towels laying around at the end of the night. Do yourself a favour and take these to turn in for new cards and lock yours up in the safe until check out. - The beach is full of a seaweed called sargassum. They try to clean it up, but more often than not you have to climb over a little hill of it to get to the water where you'll be swimming with it all around you. Their website pictures of the beach are totally misleading. Look at reviewer's photos to get a better idea. Also, bring aqua socks if you do want to swim, lots of sharp rocks to cut your feet up. - If you have to buy anything, be prepared to pay WAY too much money for it. Pack a suitcase of sunscreen, it's roughly $35 Canadian to purchase it there (Canadian's bring US currency, it seems to be more desirable over pesos. Bring a bunch of US $1 bills for tips). - Tables and loungers at the main family pool get claimed by towels well before breakfast, just to sit empty most of the day. It is incredibly frustrating to see a pool surrounded by empty loungers you can't sit in. This sense of competition is hardly relaxing. - If you don't want to eat at the buffet for dinner, make your reservations as soon as you are allowed to (you can only do 2 days in advance). These spots fill up super fast and you'll get stuck with a lousy time or no reservation at all. - Only the adults get room cards, the kids have no way to come and go, even our 16 year old. So we were constantly having to arrange meeting points or searching for each other wasting our time. Carrying room cards is a pain when you are spending your day in the water, especially when you aren't able to secure a table or chair for yourself. Wrist bands that open your door are much better. - Takes super long to get any drink order at all the buffet restaurants, probably better to get it from the bar yourself. I was more often than not done eating before my drink arrived. We would not return to El Cid, mainly because we felt like a burden to the front desk staff. Any problem was met with their very apparent disapproval, regardless that it was their resonsibility. I would spend way more time reading reviews before selecting an all inclusive again.

A girlfriend and I needed a quick getaway to someplace warm and we found this location on Delta Vacations. The property is nice, but the newer resort next door, Venues is definitely a lot nicer. The beach is a mess, so don't plan on swimming in the ocean. The piles of seaweed are huge and they smell. The pools are awesome though and the food was actually good for an all inclusive. All in all we enjoyed our time here.

Worth the trip!

This was a fun, safe, and clean resort! It completely exceeded our expectations! We took our three teens down for vacation and there was plenty to do for all of us (if we wanted to), or if we wanted peace and quiet, that was available, too :) The food was amazing, the service was good, everyone was very friendly. The only down side was the beach. Rocky and seaweed :( But we didn't mind choosing the infinity pool overlooking the ocean. Perfect get-away for our family!

Resort is nice with a lot of activities, children's pool was great, my 11 year old son really enjoyed it. We found the food lacking, fresh vegetable and fruit choices very, very limited - A typical tropical medley I would have at a 4 star resort. Beach is virtually not swimmable, there are many under water rocks with are quite sharp. Location is convenient, El Cid is located within walking distance to the snorkeling, scuba diving and dolphin experience. Room Service is prompt and reliable. Rooms are clean and made up twice a day, but are a little weird, be prepared that the bathroom door is a) frosted glass, b) does not lock, c) has a sizable gap between the door and the side wall. You can see into the room. So, if pooping with an audience is your thing.... that's the place.
