I have already written to Apple concerning the inaccurate description of "upgrade." I don't expect much will be done, as I never hear about questions related to MANY past stays booked through Apple. Now for El Cid...our family is not fond of the "cafeteria" style food option @ the Marketplace. Guests must eat there if specialty restaurant reservations aren't available, and they're booked many, many nights. We arrived on a Thursday and couldn't get a reservation for anything after 9:00 until Sunday. We had children in our group that needed to eat earlier. And we had adults that needed the same thing. It got dark quite early and the pools were cold, so that would have been much too late. The beach is okay. Most areas are reserved for folks who upgrade to Platinum. It's difficult to find a spot for 5 or more people. As far as the rating...it's off the mark we feel! And we have stayed at MANY resorts in that area! The food options, the beach seating methods and the push for Platinum made it lower on the Apple scale.

Nice hotel, but....

We stayed here two years ago and loved it which is why we went back with additional family members. Since then, they built El CID Ventus next door. That side has a beautiful large pool that no one uses because of no entertainment and no pool bar. Everyone from this hotel uses Marinas pool. Itís packed. It canít handle the amount of people. You must be at the pool BEFORE 730 to even attempt to get a pool chair. Again, on the Ventus side, they put a buffet with different stations and a French restaurant. Thatís it. So again, everyone uses Marinas restaurants. We checked in on a Saturday and went to make reservations at the restaurants and we could not get dinner in the 6-630 hour. So we either had to have dinner by 530 and get off the beach early or dinner at 8 and miss the shows. There is not enough seats for everyone at the shows. In the conference center show, people were packed in, lined on the walls and sitting on the aisles. Outside, people had to stand and drag pool chairs to sit. This is a beautiful property and we loved it before Ventus. We will not return until they fix these problems. This seemed to be the feeling amongst other guests we talked to. A couple employees mentioned they were going to build a stage 3 also. I also want to mention that the Mexican restaurant at Marina was open last time was closed for dinner now. Hope Marina El CID makes some changes soon!

If very good was a category in the rating system, a couple of the excellent ratings would has been given very good. Regarding the beach rating, there was an unbelievable amount of seaweed washing up all day every day. This is nature and should not reflect on the hotel. However, the water at the beach is loaded with rocks. This makes it very difficult to experience the water.

CHECK IN DESK STAFF

Feb 22 2018
After a long day of travel (due to weather) we were happy to finally arrive at the Resort. We are a married couple and clearly had booked an upgrade to a Junior Suite with a king size bed through our travel agent and Apple Vacations (we had proof of same on our itinerary). Upon check-in, we were advised by the desk staff that there were no Junior Suites with king size beds available as the hotel was full and that for the evening we would be in a room with two double beds and perhaps be moved the next day. After much back and forth and an argument we were provided with a Junior Suite with king size bed which mystically appeared in their computer system!

Not satisfied with apple service

Jun 20 2017
We have been using apple for almost 20 years & this is the first time ever that the service was horrible. They couldn't find our reservation at the airport. 30 mins later they finally did. Oscar at the hotel was the worst!!!! He was never there to help us. Also there was no apple party at the hotel. We look forward to that on every vacation & it's always been fantastic. Very very disappointed that there was nothing! Even though we have never had a problem with apple before after this trip we will be looking for another company & no longer recommending this company to our friends & family

The beach walking into the ocean was full of rocks that part was very disappointing and go in the water at all. Someone had a bow movement in the pool and the staff did nothing about it

A great hotel, good food, pools and staff. Only complaint is the reserve too many chairs for the "Platinum Members" that they are not even using. Beach is great but ocean is rocky.

Gorgeous resort! Staff were very friendly and accommodating. The food was excellent, with many choices for both kids and adults. The only drawback is the ocean in front of this property is extremely rocky with lots of seaweed.

Bad experience

The hotel was over booked so we were unable to get in a room till after 4 and that was only for 1 night. We then had to be out by 12 and couldn't get into the new room till after 3 on Monday. We were told we were getting an up grade to an ocean view but the 2nd room was not better. Our free mini bar was never filled and our Apple rep was no help. If this was our 1st trip to Mexico I would never go back. There were more issues to lengthy to explain.

Rooms were great - large and very clean. Although the buffet was good, we found the specialty restaurants to be a little lacking. Very disappointed in the Mexican restaurant, as my 4 kids were expecting quesadillas and burritos, but the waiter didn't even know what that was. Pool was wonderful. Nightly entertainment was OK, but they need a bigger space as it is held in a small area by the pool and there were never enough seats. They could also use a stage, because the shows were very difficult to see.

I had going to a tropical place on my bucket list. I am glad it was here. The people were very friendly and there were many smiles from staff. I tried to be polite as my mother taught me and this lesson was well learned. Hola and Gracias were my go to phrases. I had a wonderful week eating great food and drinking all my hearts content. The number of pools and Jacuzzi were abundant, clear and wonderful every day. The serving staff were very accommodating. They're wages are so low that tipping was very appreciated.

The property was gorgeous and clean. The food was delish & of excellent quality and variety. The on site entertainment was top-notch. Our only minor complaints on this trip was that it was too short & the weather wasn't sooo great but hey, what can ya do about that?!!! Taxis to head out on own excursions can be a bit pricey as it's a bit too far to walk in from the main highway for public transit. Highly recommend this hotel for couples or families. The kids looked like they were having a blast!!

2nd Stay at El Cid
Trail18675227774, New York City, New York
Wed Dec 12 16:47:41 EST 2018
This was our 2nd time at Marina El Cid and we were a little nervous as we had a great time two years ago and had high expectations second time around. Our stay did not disappoint! The resort was just as great as the first time and got even better with additional features such as Mercado de Dolores and Ventus facilities. We traveled with 2 kids ages 7 and 9, grand parents and great-grandparents. Pros: - very clean, beautiful, well kept property with air conditioned restaurants, lobby, etc. - entertainment is great (pool parties, zumba, volleyball, events for kids, some of the best shows we've seen in the evening as comparing to other resorts). - rooms are nice, clean - ask for higher floors if you want a view. we were in building 19 and it was a short walk to everything- resort is not too big and is very walkable, but in case you need a lift - golf carts are there to help get you to that restaurant or pool- new Mercado is amazing. First impression was not that great but it quickly disappeared as there are many choices to eat, lots of seafood, cafe, crepe station, etc. - pools are awesome. Kids had a blast jumping off the cliff, sliding down the slide and just hanging out in the pool. A few days we were there it was a bit chilly so the hot tub where the kids can warm up was great as well. - kids club is very nice - girls there are very friendly and really enjoy what they do. Our kids didn't want to leave once they hung around there- animals - loved seeing the crocodiles in the pond between buildings 18 and 19 - kids were mesmerized every time. the other pond by the spa has really nice birds, turtles, etc. - bike tour - definitely recommend if you have the time and want to see the village of Puerto MorelosCons- beach. Not really resorts' fault with all the seaweed but the beach is still pretty rocky and both times we were here we went in only a few times. If you are a pool person though - shouldn't be an issue- was a bit disappointed that no towel animals or anything like that was made the entire stay we were there. Usually in other resorts you get that at least a few times during the stay and we left tips every day but didn't see it. Kids were looking forward to it but not a big deal- internet is very expensive and is per device so if you have a family it won't work. we ended up getting for one day because of work but this is one of the few resorts that we've been to that still charges for the internetOverall - great time! Would come back!
