Great Value
Feb 06 2018
In my opinion, the Emporio Ixtapa is a "no frills" hotel. Rooms are clean, food is acceptable, staff is wonderful. It has what we are looking for and we are repeat visitors. We like the size and location is also great!

Hotel Rooms

The hotel rooms could use a little bit of upkeep (get rid of mold in shower grout, clean ceiling vent, our room curtain was broken)

Emporio Hotel/ loud music after 11 PM nightly across the street
Feb 22 2017
Emporio Hotel has a very friendly staff and very accommodating to the guests. Our biggest complaint was the location of our room which faced the street and the loud music playing across the street starting at 11 PM until 3-4 am, We have stayed at this hotel numerous times and this by far was the worst with all the loud music so late in the night. Ended up using earplugs every night to help mask the noise.

ice avaiability

there are no ice machines available of people in the resort. you have to go to the bars and ask for ice. a centrally located ice machine would be awesome.

It is a place I wouldn't hesitate to Go back to again especially is there was the SAME type of discount pricing for both air and hotel in 2017

A community ice cube dispenser would be nice. Also, a small microwave in rooms.

I think I should have known that there would be no refrigerator in the room. The shower drained up to the drain and there was water in the shower always unless I used the shower mat to push the water to the drain. The standing water then made it smell moldy/mildewy. Not Pleasant!

I've already sent an email to Apple regarding our vacation and dissatisfaction with this hotel and service!

Emporio had air conditioning that barely kept up in the rooms, otherwise very nice.

great vacation, great value

piecing together separate air and hotel, it is slightly cheaper to go independently, but since apple includes very expensive cab transfers, it comes out to be less expensive to but the package. I wish our transfer info could be provided upon arrival rather than interrupt an afternoon or morning to meet with a representative. I know that you need to sell tours, but it is really annoying to wait for a meeting. we have your local phone number and rep schedule.

Run of the House Room not nice!
Mar 02 2013
We had the (I believe) "superior" room through Apple. It was moldy, mildewy, dark, shabby and very depressing. The front desk and Apple rep worked with us to upgrade to a junior suite which was the difference between night and day and well worth the extra money. I think Apple shouldn't offer the run-of-the-house rooms (that's what the front desk said we were originally booked in). The other couple who were on our flight & in our van also changed their room. Based on our experience with the first room, I wouldn't rate this hotel a "golden apple." Other than the room issue, the hotel was excellent.

This is not a luxury hotel. The room was clean and comfortable. We had one afternoon when the water pressure was low but the next day it was back to strong. The elevators move quickly and have a high capacity so you are not waiting and wasting vacation time. This hotel services mostly native Mexicans so signage and reception is in Spanish. The food is Mexican. All that being noted, we were in Mexico so Spanish-language and Mexican food was appreciated. This hotel chain is 100% non-smoking which we noticed on day two. The beach was the cleanest we have experienced, we did not need to continually switch chairs in order to avoid cigarette smoke. There were lots of children at the resort, there is a nicely tucked away kiddie pool with small waterslide. We got an awesome last minute deal and would definitely go here again if the price was right. Also, the bike tours are lovely (flat option or a more vigorous option)

Gust did one week next door, then one week at the Emporio, Non-Inclusive, We Love the Staff there from the front desk to the Restaurants and Bars, they all know us by name, and we get hugs from everyone there, Only person missing this year was Clemente we heard he retired after 30 some years. but Rosa is still there for breakfast and lunch and she still takes good care of us, Our room was also great we always do the Ocean view upgrade and Paula takes care of It we have known her for many years. They still have Happy hour so we can invite friends over for a few and then have dinner. I guess our biggest complaint is all the kids splashing around the pool bar, We are paying for our drinks and don't need pool water in them, they should have the Security Guards say something every now and then about Splashing all over, they do at the other hotels, Anyway met a lot of people and had a Great time, All ready booked to come back next year.

Emporio Hotel: A Great Cultural Experience at an Excellent Price by Marguerita & Ricardo
Margaret F,
Mon Dec 10 08:12:27 EST 2018
Ricardo’s history with the Emporio goes back over fifteen years to when it was family owned. Now it is part of a small, Mexican chain of hotels and we were concerned that it might not be as good. But it was even better. We stayed three weeks and enjoyed excellent service throughout that time. Julian greeted us as our taxi pulled up with, ‘You’re back!” … (after a decade and a half). Once we entered the vast marble lobby we were at home. Julian facilitated everything for us; whether it was giving us directions, making reservations, getting a cab, or informing us of events and places. He was friendly and professional and key to the enjoyment of our stay. Ever friendly and helpful Alan became our front desk ally. Lucila was our housekeeper, and we couldn’t have asked for better. Without being intrusive, she kept our room neat and tidy and always left special touches, like towel sculptures and flowers. When we needed anything for the room, Lucila was quick to oblige. The bed was comfortable and the room was clean and bright. The buffet breakfast (the only meal we included) was truly phenomenal. First of all, many tables looked out over the ocean or the pool area. And the food was varied, endless and excellent. There was fresh fruit every day: Papaya, pineapple, cantaloupe, honeydew, and bananas were standard. In addition we often found grapefruit and/or orange sections, starfruit, and watermelon. For juices, Papaya, orange, melon, and green juice. A nice mix of Mexican foods (chicken and pork, tortillas and fajitas) was always offered as well as two stations where eggs were prepared to individual order by Ema or Elizabeth. There was also a large selection of sweets; baked goods, toast and huge pitchers of interesting marmalades and jams, like guave, green tomato, and pineapple. Also pancakes and/or French toast, and that hotel standard, a waffle maker. Stephan managed the buffet, and he was friendly and accommodating as well as professional. Rosa was our server, we looked forward to her friendly greeting each day as she set a table for us. She always had a cheerful demeanour and gave us great service. The movement/activity coordinators, led by Carlos kept everyone engaged and entertained around the pool. Everything from Zumba to water polo and beach volleyball. Olivia organized events for the kids in a separate pool so that parents could participate in the main events. We went in November. Temperatures ranged from 80 degrees Fahrenheit up (25C) but it was mostly in the 90’s (F). Evenings cooled down to 65 or 70 degrees. Ricardo loved the sun and the pool. The downside? We couldn’t swim in the sea because the waves were too fierce. I love ocean swimming, so we took buses and small boats to Isla Ixtapa from Playa Linda, and to Playa Las Gatas via Zihuateno to swim in the ocean, even though the hotel had beach frontage. We ate at the hotel BBQ twice. Looked after by Gregorio. The first time was lots of seafood; the second time less seafood but a great variety of good meat and lots of salads. The price? About $15 each, including a bottomless wine glass. We look forward to returning.
