Hotel Rooms

The hotel rooms could use a little bit of upkeep (get rid of mold in shower grout, clean ceiling vent, our room curtain was broken)

Emporio Hotel/ loud music after 11 PM nightly across the street
Feb 22 2017
Emporio Hotel has a very friendly staff and very accommodating to the guests. Our biggest complaint was the location of our room which faced the street and the loud music playing across the street starting at 11 PM until 3-4 am, We have stayed at this hotel numerous times and this by far was the worst with all the loud music so late in the night. Ended up using earplugs every night to help mask the noise.

ice avaiability

there are no ice machines available of people in the resort. you have to go to the bars and ask for ice. a centrally located ice machine would be awesome.

It is a place I wouldn't hesitate to Go back to again especially is there was the SAME type of discount pricing for both air and hotel in 2017

A community ice cube dispenser would be nice. Also, a small microwave in rooms.

I think I should have known that there would be no refrigerator in the room. The shower drained up to the drain and there was water in the shower always unless I used the shower mat to push the water to the drain. The standing water then made it smell moldy/mildewy. Not Pleasant!

I've already sent an email to Apple regarding our vacation and dissatisfaction with this hotel and service!

Emporio had air conditioning that barely kept up in the rooms, otherwise very nice.

great vacation, great value

piecing together separate air and hotel, it is slightly cheaper to go independently, but since apple includes very expensive cab transfers, it comes out to be less expensive to but the package. I wish our transfer info could be provided upon arrival rather than interrupt an afternoon or morning to meet with a representative. I know that you need to sell tours, but it is really annoying to wait for a meeting. we have your local phone number and rep schedule.

Run of the House Room not nice!
Mar 02 2013
We had the (I believe) "superior" room through Apple. It was moldy, mildewy, dark, shabby and very depressing. The front desk and Apple rep worked with us to upgrade to a junior suite which was the difference between night and day and well worth the extra money. I think Apple shouldn't offer the run-of-the-house rooms (that's what the front desk said we were originally booked in). The other couple who were on our flight & in our van also changed their room. Based on our experience with the first room, I wouldn't rate this hotel a "golden apple." Other than the room issue, the hotel was excellent.

We've always enjoyed the Emporio. The food is good. The beach is nice. Waitors are very nice and attentive. They've spent some money refurbishing rooms, and building new beach pallapas. We do nothing but go to the beach all day and occasionally run into Zihuan. Upon reviewing the bill at checkout, I discovered the $60 hotel credit wasn't applied. The receptionist seemed both surprised and a little irritated I found the mistake. She proceeded to use a very low exchange rate for the credit. Possibly just someone having a bad day. We proceeded to get a taxi to Zihuan airport and had a lot of trouble getting taxi drivers to take the Apple voucher. Finally one of the Emporia bell boys explained how the voucher worked. Again, this isn't a hotel problem, but it was the first time it's happened to us. Would still recommend Emporia.

On our first day, we enjoyed a wonderful meal at the Sunset Grill which was made all the more special by the wonderful service provided by Oscar and Gregario. Such exceptional service goes a long way to making a dining experience enjoyable and we plan to return to that restaurant. Rafael provided timely service at the pool bar. Alan at the front desk was helpful and if unable to provide an answer was quick to look into it and come back with an answer. Housekeeping are to be commended for the exceptionally clean rooms. Overall ever staff member we encountered at this hotel was well trained, very helpful and friendly.

Old hotel, great staff.

Let's start with the negative. The Emporio feels like an old hotel. It's rooms and fittings are old and fighting to keep working. A friend had a room that had a bad smell and was moved to another better room. Apparently there are some newer rooms, but we didn't get one. The other negative is that there are signs around the hotel and pool saying that the hotel is 'no smoking'. But there were many people wandering around smoking and no staff said anything to them. Having a young child with us, it was really annoying. The positive. The staff are great. They make the hotel. Very friendly, happy, willing to do anything to make our stay better. We even selected some food from the buffet and they turned it into baby food for us! The food was very good with a good selection. Although the veggie selection can be limiting some days. A plate of rice does not a meal make. Other good bits. Their are 3 varieties of kids pools at the hotel. The beach is great and stays shallow for a nice distance. The hotel wifi reaches the beach. The included beer is very nice and refreshing. ... So. in conclusion. Fix the hotel, keep the great staff, stop people smoking by the pool and turn this into a really great family hotel.

Family friendly-good food if you like Mexican food

Overall our stay was good. Nice variety for kids. If you’re expecting American white food, just get the European package which is room only. If you are ready to indulge in near authentic Mexican cuisine, go for the all inclusive package. Most of the reviews here say food isn’t that great but it’s misleading. Children’s evening with movie/theater duros, cupcakes and marshmallows on a stick on a Monday night that I was there. Be ready to tip in order for waiter to come back to you. Otherwise, you’ll need to go yourself to the palapa and order drinks there directly. 6th floor rooms smelled moldy. All our clothes smelled like that when we went home. Hard to take out the stench. Overall, nice family friendly hotel. Variety of pools for the entire family to enjoy. Direct access to the the beach. Not very many tourists here, more upperclass Mexican families from other states than white people.

Great Location - Rooms Need Updating

My family stayed here two nights. The staff were wonderful and the location was perfect. However, the rooms need a lot of updating, fixtures worn and electrical socket not working in bathroom. Everything just seemed old. The pool and grounds however were beautifully maintained. It is very crowded during Christmas week so be prepared to NOT have seats by the pool or on the beach unless you grab them early.
