Great Value
Feb 06 2018
In my opinion, the Emporio Ixtapa is a "no frills" hotel. Rooms are clean, food is acceptable, staff is wonderful. It has what we are looking for and we are repeat visitors. We like the size and location is also great!

The hotel rooms could use a little bit of upkeep (get rid of mold in shower grout, clean ceiling vent, our room curtain was broken)

Emporio Hotel/ loud music after 11 PM nightly across the street
Feb 22 2017
Emporio Hotel has a very friendly staff and very accommodating to the guests. Our biggest complaint was the location of our room which faced the street and the loud music playing across the street starting at 11 PM until 3-4 am, We have stayed at this hotel numerous times and this by far was the worst with all the loud music so late in the night. Ended up using earplugs every night to help mask the noise.

there are no ice machines available of people in the resort. you have to go to the bars and ask for ice. a centrally located ice machine would be awesome.

It is a place I wouldn't hesitate to Go back to again especially is there was the SAME type of discount pricing for both air and hotel in 2017

A community ice cube dispenser would be nice. Also, a small microwave in rooms.

I think I should have known that there would be no refrigerator in the room. The shower drained up to the drain and there was water in the shower always unless I used the shower mat to push the water to the drain. The standing water then made it smell moldy/mildewy. Not Pleasant!

I've already sent an email to Apple regarding our vacation and dissatisfaction with this hotel and service!

Emporio had air conditioning that barely kept up in the rooms, otherwise very nice.

great vacation, great value

piecing together separate air and hotel, it is slightly cheaper to go independently, but since apple includes very expensive cab transfers, it comes out to be less expensive to but the package. I wish our transfer info could be provided upon arrival rather than interrupt an afternoon or morning to meet with a representative. I know that you need to sell tours, but it is really annoying to wait for a meeting. we have your local phone number and rep schedule.

Run of the House Room not nice!
Mar 02 2013
We had the (I believe) "superior" room through Apple. It was moldy, mildewy, dark, shabby and very depressing. The front desk and Apple rep worked with us to upgrade to a junior suite which was the difference between night and day and well worth the extra money. I think Apple shouldn't offer the run-of-the-house rooms (that's what the front desk said we were originally booked in). The other couple who were on our flight & in our van also changed their room. Based on our experience with the first room, I wouldn't rate this hotel a "golden apple." Other than the room issue, the hotel was excellent.

This Hotel was very clean and organized, is not to big, at the begging was a little concerned but very fast I liked it. The junior suite is a perfect size for a family of 5 ( 3 kids, 10,12,13yrs old). Everynight they a have a theme (tex-mex, international night, Mexican night, and dome other nights they have a musical group and you can dance. The swimming pool sometimes is crowded but easily you just walk to the beach. The size of the hotel is so comfortable, even if you want to go to the bathroom at your own room is just fine, You have can see your kids easily. other good thing is they offer very nice packages to know better Ixtapa, Sergio was our guide, and Dorian explain everything to us, we chosse to go sail from Zihuatanejo , then we did snorkel (amazing experience ) then we sail for 1 hour (we saw 2 whales ), the we stop at Isla Ixtapa, we eat there a huge delicious lunch and to wrap it up we ended at the cocodrilrio playa Linda Ixtapa. Then my husband went in to the sea with his cel phone by accident and we lost all the pictures from the snorkel experience, and Sergio help us to contact the person who to took the pictures very nice and personal service, plus he gave us a private boat to sail during the tour. The hotel has a nice tennis court, baseball / soccer space to play during the day . The room is not luxurious is comfortable, clean and with good space for 5 guests. The Food is delicious , the seasoning is just exact for an international restaurant every member of my family was enjoying the different plates and desert. they have 3 different restaurants , the condimento is the main restaurant , the Italian is more elegant and you have to make reservation, but the one who stole my soul is the grilled dinner just beside the beach, also you have to make a reservation is so worth it. All the waiters are so polite and humble, Anibal, Raphael, Gregorio, Luis, Rosa, etc they make you fell at home. If you want to go to the market or to take a walk after lunch or dinner out of the hotel , is just across the street you can see coffee shops, restaurants and boutiques, also you have a drugstore and doctors in case you need it. Is one church close to the hotel, 4 minutes by car or 10 minutes walking . The only good or bad thing is no balcony , So if I go to the Gym I don't have to worry (3 kids 10,12,14 old) alone at the room), but I would loved to have one to go out with my husband or just to put to dry the wet clothes, (they have a laundry services don't worry) Ixtapa is so beautiful , safe and calm. To one word , YES I WILL GO BACK. Thank You Emporio for this amazing vacation. Elsa Rentería.

Friendly staff with lack of attention to detail.

I called before my arrival to ask for a Sea View room, I was helped by the Front Desk Supervisor, who happily allocated a room with an amazing view for an extra cost. I asked her to specify not to mention that there was a fee involved about the upgrade as it was a surprise to my partner. Awkward Check-In: The first thing it was asked by the receptionist was for the payment of the upgrade despite mentioning it was a surprise; this caused a big rant with my partner about it. He could easily have asked for pre-authorization on my card and settle the upgrade with the hold. I paid the all-inclusive service and the upgrade, with my card using my PIN which no longer requires a Signature. However, the receptionist sent someone to look for me while I was at lunch to go back to the reception to sign his receipt. Missed Opportunity: he could have sent the ticket and have it signed while I was at lunch. F&B: You need to reserve 2 of the 3 restaurants for dinner upon arrival. We only found about its when we try to have dinner on those restaurants. Room: The only downside was that you couldn't open the window, and the actual window was extremely dirty which made the amazing view not as enjoyable. Friendly Staff: congrats to the amazing staff. Paula our room attendant; always kept our room spotless. Cleaning lady from the pool stopped doing her job to personally take me to the towels area. FD Supervisor: had the amazing gesture to send a cake given our special celebration. Thank you!

Top choice for cleanliness, friendly staff and easy on the budget

This was our 3rd time staying in this hotel, but it was our first time as true vacationers. (On previous visits we were there on a mission trip and were hardly on property except for sleeping.) This time we stayed for a quick 4 nights. We were looking for affordable, but clean and safe lodging and we received all of that. We booked a superior ocean view room and we were assigned room 818. It was one of the corner rooms with ocean views, so views on both sides was nice! We also appreciated the kitchenette in the room with fridge and microwave. (See below for info on the sad state of the refrigerator) We stayed as non-all-inclusive guests, but our package did have a hotel food & beverage credit worth $35 US. Our goal for the trip was warmth and relaxation, we had no plans to go off property very much except for a bike ride and meals. As others have said, this place was a good value for the money spent. While I recall basic hospitality on prior visits, something that stood out to us on this trip was how friendly and helpful all the staff were. It seems like that may be even more of a focus than in the past – and that’s a great thing! From front desk (Enrique and Laura and another guy I forgot the name) to restaurant wait staff (Rosa) and beach wait staff (Jordan), as well as housekeeping, everyone was very nice, friendly and super helpful. One evening we ran out of tissues – made the call and within 5 mins a new box was delivered and 1 min later a follow-up call to the room to ensure we were happy. That is great service. Also, it seemed that perhaps the front desk staff were a little more comfortable with English this trip, which helps when my very little Spanish isn’t enough. What surprised me, and not in a good way, is that on past visits, the hotel was always crazy busy on Fri/Sat/Sun but less so during the week. We arrived late Saturday knowing Sunday would be busy but expected Mon/Tues to be a little less busy. I don’t know what holidays were going on, but it was actually busier on Mon and Tues than Sunday! I believe the hotel was 99-100% full all the days we were there. The pool was packed, the patio was packed, and the restaurant was packed. What was frustrating to me was the lack of beach and pool etiquette – different culture and customs I suppose but there was no sense of personal space. We had kids rushing right next to our chairs but worse were grown adults conducting lengthy and loud business calls right from their beach chairs. It was so obnoxious I was wishing the guy’s phone would just die. I wasn’t expecting an adults-only quiet experience because I know that’s not what this place is. And you get what you pay for and we wanted more of a budget-friendly trip. But, it is something that would make me say that I was glad we only stayed 4 nights. I would have needed to relocate if our trip was any longer. Room – the bed was horribly hard for me, my husband tolerated it. We’ve been spoiled by our tempurpedic. I slept with much tossing and turning and woke up sore each day. The room though was clean and had sufficient closet with the safe and a table with four chairs. The refrigerator had to be unlocked so we could use it and it was blocked up with ICE. It was also not very clean. We requested a replacement. They brought in another one, slightly smaller but all we needed. So that helped. Bathroom was fine, didn’t notice tons of mold or anything like that which is often common. Well maintained is the way to describe it. We did use our hotel credit in the Condimento restaurant for lunch several days. Sunday we actually ate in the restaurant a la carte and were served by super friendly and efficient Rosa. Our fish filet and melted cheese w/ tortillas was great and came out in a decent amount of time. We also ordered a club sandwich on the beach one day and the last day some more of the melted cheese/tortillas. Good stuff. I also got 1 drink with the credit, so it extended far enough for being on property and paying that premium. Pool – very crowded and not for me. Plus the music was played very loudly and I can’t recall how many times a day I heard the same pop/dance song played over and over again. We stuck to the beach. We did set up on the beach every single day. Due to the high occupancy, we found it best to go locate our beach chairs early, between 7-8 and play the dreaded saving chairs game with towel on the chair with hat/sunscreen to hold our place. After 9am, the options were less and less. Activities – we went on the bike ride to Playa Linda thru the hotel animacion group at 9am on Monday. It was a nice ride and took just over an hour as we couldn’t go very fast. The bikes didn’t really fit us well, but it was free, so there you go. My husband’s bike wouldn’t shift correctly, so he tried to trade with the leader, but that bike had a tiny seat which was NOT happening. I didn’t see a list of daily activities listed anywhere, you really have to just ask around. So being non- all- inclusive worked fine for us. We were able to get buckets of ice (or by the glass) as needed at the bars or restaurant and we gave a small tip for this. We went to the Merza market and stocked up on snacks/bread/drinks/lots of bottled water and made sandwiches on several days. We ate out dinner every night though, the place was too crowded and chaotic to attempt to dine on property. The breakfast buffet is usually tempting to me, but after 830 or so, the place was packed through 10am. Again, chaotic and not what I needed. In summary, I would stay again if I wanted a budget-minded and short trip, but there is no way I could stay there and chill on property for more than 4 nights, 3 days.

Had a great time at Emporio Ixtapa!

Spouse and I travelled to Ixtapa/Zihua for the first time and had a wonderful trip. We stayed for 1 week this March at the Emporio Ixtapa and found it a great place to stay for a moderate budgeted resort. The hotel is located right in the middle of hotel row on the beach and allowed for great morning walks each way. The staff were always great and very accommodating. We had booked an oceanside room and was very pleased with our room #719 which was a corner room giving us a beautiful view of the entire beach. The clientele was approximately 90% mexican families which we didn't mind but it it would have been better if we were able to speak some spanish. The hotel is older but seems to have been kept up pretty good. There is only one main pool where the water could have been kept a little cleaner as it was always busy with families. We opted to choose the beach where it was quieter and park ourselves under their palapas each day enjoying the cool ocean breeze. The beaches were extremely clean and never overcrowded. You can choose to go the all-inclusive route (which we did), European or not. In hindsight I would have preferred to go with the European package which only included breakfasts (which were great with fresh made to order omelettes) to save some money and allowing us to eat lunch/dinners out to explore more the restaurants in Ixtapa/Zihua. It was wonderful to go to sleep and wake up to the sound of the ocean. We had great weather and I would love for the opportunity to travel here again.
