My husband and I LOVE Cozumel! So much so, that we took our 10 year anniversary to the island this May. After seeing our pictures, our children were so jealous, we decided to book our family trip to Cozumel as well! We've never done an all inclusive stay, because we love to explore and sample local food. However, on this trip, we had our 5 year old and 1 year old in tow, and thought the simplicity of an all inclusive might be better this time. If nothing else, we could let the kids eat at the hotel and later on my husband and I could eat something off site. When we arrived on the island, we picked up our rental car and ate at Toro's Place (an amazing restaurant in town) ... but that ended up being the ONLY MEAL we ate away from the hotel the entire week! This was the most relaxing weekend with the kids we've ever had! When we arrived at the hotel, there was ample parking space for our rental right up front! We walked in and it was gorgeous (obviously dated, but well taken care of). Check in was a breeze and we were greeted with welcome drinks (non-alcoholic for the kiddos) and we got the key to our room. Our son loved that the floors had see-through tiles that he could see all the way to the bottom from our floor. We got unpacked and hit the pool. My husband and I really enjoyed the free drinks. We had pina coladas, SOL beer, daiquiris, and so much more. The kiddos had an endless flow of virgin blended drinks and juice! The pool was spectacular!!! A place for standard swimming, a kiddie pool, and even a wading area for tiny babies! It was truly paradise! We did get warnings from several reviews that there was a $20 charge for any lost pool towel. That is true, and we brought our own beach towels so we didn't have to worry about it. Now the food. Was it amazingly wonderful??? No. Better than average and tasty, but nothing that knocked my socks off. But what it did offer to two parents ... FREEDOM!!!!!! Oh how nice that was to have the full all-you-can-eat-bar instead of menu ordering!! I took my son to the front of the line and we just walked down as he picked out what he thought looked yummy. Oh, the night you had deviled eggs on the cold bar, he gorged himself till popping (and this is a kid who rarely eats at all). My son DOESNT EAT ... all meal long we usually have to remind him that he's supposed to be eating, but not here. He loved the pancakes in the morning, the fruit all day, the eggs, the fajitas, the beans, the chicken. He loved the hamburgers that were poolside, and the drinks that flowed all day. The only part none of us enjoyed were the desserts. They were flavorless and dry ... with the exception of the one day we found ice cream being served at lunch time. I don't know if it was there every day, but that was the first time we noticed it. If that was offered at every meal it would have been magical. The food bar was ocean front and open air, but it never really felt hot. I felt like royalty having staff run around constantly refilling my drink and telling us how cute our children were! This took so much stress off of our trip, I don't think any vacation will ever measure up to this one. The ocean... The beach area was pretty dangerous for the kids. I didn't let them run free because there really wasn't a barrier from the hammocks to falling off the wall into the ocean. But I'm a good parent and watched my kids. I never really saw anyone hanging out in that hammock area other than single people, and I suspect it was due to the dangerous nature of that area. So if you are thinking you are going to lounge at the beach with the kiddos, think again .. families hang at the pool. Activities: We didn't take advantage of many activities while there because we had something booked every day. I noticed several events geared towards children occurring throughout the day. But for my American families, be advised, everything is in Spanish. Most of the guests are Mexican or from surrounding countries. I think that adds to the experience, but if you are expecting that movie night will be a movie played in English, you will be disappointed. (El Cid La Cieba plays movies in English if that matters to you, but it isn't a quarter of what Hotel Cozumel is). We definitely watched COCO in Spanish with our kids and my son was fascinated learning another culture and realizing that there are different languages all around the world, not just ours. :) Right off the beach is a snorkeling area to get in the water. This was amazing. It is super small, but it was perhaps the most magical moment of my life. This was the first time my son has ever snorkeled. I snorkeled all the time as a kid and we bought him a full face mask for the experience. He got in the water and took to it like a fish. Showing him all the fish and anemones under the water will be an experience I will cherish for a lifetime! Oh, but do wear water shoes in that spot. There are a TON of anemones that will stab you in the foot. My son found that out the first time he jumped in without fins. They sting and the barb remained in his foot for a long time. The staff was super helpful and the people at the dive shop had vinegar handy to help him take the edge off. There is a tunnel between the hotel and beach bar/ocean/dive shop .... we didn't know till the last day. :/ I wish the front desk had mentioned it, but crossing the street wasn't that bad. The room was SUPER COLD! Oh, after a day of hiking the Mayan ruins, or playing at Chakkanab, the AC was greatly appreciated by all in our group! My son asked for it periodically all day when it got really humid. There really isn't much around the hotel you can walk to, other than the dolphin thing across the street, everything needs to be driven to in a car or taxi. If you are alone or a couple, a taxi is really cheep if you keep pesos on you, it's too expensive if you are trying to pay in dollars. The driving is pretty sketchy, but stay alert and research the basic signs and you'll be okay. It is really difficult to find places to park, but there aren't a lot of police around waiting to issue tickets and they love their tourists, so if you ask someone on the street if it's an okay place to park, they'll let you know and the cops usually look the other way unless it's a dangerous place to park or are blocking a driveway. Checkout: Was super easy! We handed over our keys, our pool cards, and they cut off our wrist bands. Thank you so much for a wonderful week!!! We will have to do this again!

We were vacationing in Islam mujeres this trip but wanted to come to Cozumel to visit friends from past stays . I wanted to stay close to town so we could walk into town instead of using taxis . We have stayed here before and knew we liked it , check in was a breeze and they even checked us in early which was nice . We had a nice sea view room and the staff even remembered us from last year . We had the pool all to ourselves which was fun , it was rather slow when we were there . I had no problem with the food and the drinks were fine .

The hotel is definitely old and needs some renovations. Changing sheets and towels once in a while wouldn't hurt either (we stayed for 6 nights and they never changed the sheets). That being said this hotel is fine for a relaxing stay. The pool area and the beach area are very nice. The ocean water was very clean and did not seem to have the algae problem that was affecting Mexico's coast. It's also really nice to swim and snorkel as there is a little reef right there with lots of colorful fish. The food is definitely not the best and needs improvement and a little more options. There's two restaurants, one inside and one outside. The one outside is right on the beach but does not have air conditioning and, although the view was great, I hated eating there because it was really hot. The inside restaurant was definitely more comfortable but you can't choose where to eat as they will only serve your meal in one of the two restaurants. Overall it is cheaper than most 4*hotels so worth the money

Consistantly good!

Love this place as it is older but well maintained and clean for the amount of people who stay here. Large pool and plenty of shade and sun to relax. Man made beach with ironshore for great snorkeling. Pier for dive pickup or use onsite dive shop for convenience. AI option which is a good value. Never went hungry. Staff is what makes this place what it is and will definitely be back and in fact that will be Christmas of this year. I am sure my 4th time this past year won't be a disappointment. Can't wait to go back!!

Great Bang for the Buck!!!

Having stayed her two other times in the past year I knew exactly what I was getting and was not disappointed . Older hotel but well maintained. Beautiful lobby and easy check in. Largest pool in Cozumel with a hot tub which comes in handy in the winter during those cool nights. Nice rooms with good water pressure and hot water with great A/C. Nice balcony with place to hang diving gear with a view of the pool.Elevator to rear all floors. Has an all- inclusive option which is a good value. Food is decent for what you pay and I never went hungry or got sick which is important Breakfast and lunch were the best meals. At the price you can go downtown to eat at the many restaurants as you are within walking distance. Great place for divers with on site dive shop and pier but any dive shop can pick you up there. Great place to hang out with man made beach and iron shore with great snorkeling. The best thing about this hotel is the people who work there who will go over and above to make your stay the best they can possible make it. . Is this place for everyone? Probably not as some peoples expectations are much to high but its the place for me. In fact I am booked again this December over Christmas and am looking forward to returning as I know exactly what I am going to get.
