Great Family Vacation
Mar 28 2017
We take a big family vacation about once every 5 years and came back to Ixtapa after not having been here for 15 years. To our delight, it has not changed much. We decided to go all-inclusive this time since our kids were older and of drinking age. It worked out very well for our family. The food, which seems to be the issue with most reviewers, was fine. You have to remember that Ixtapa is a vacation destination for mostly vacationing Mexicans and the food selections caters to that. We found it refreshing to be eating authentic Mexican food for breakfast and lunch (dinners we always ate at a local restaurant outside the resort). The only suggestion I would give is to have fresh fruit available ALWAYS. That should be a staple on every buffet every day, breakfast and lunch. The drinks were also good but would prefer larger cups than what they offered (good idea to bring an insulated mug so you can consolidate a few into one). Bartenders were friendly, except for one in the sports bar...wish I remembered his name. One night there was a Mexican Fiesta dinner in the courtyard, and what a presentation that was! It took them literally two days to set up and we were not disappointed. Again, authentic Mexican fare for dinner with different food stations scattered throughout the courtyard. Very impressive. The pools were nice but was not a big fan of the "shallow" pool. We spent most of our time at the "quiet" pool and it worked well for us. Didn't appreciate that they allowed smoking poolside but they did a pretty good job of policing that and other unwanted activity. Pools looked like they could use a little cleaning around the inside rims....kind of a slimy ring around it. Rooms were nice and cleaned well. Nice soaps and hair products. Can't say enough about Jorge at the front desk. He was very accommodating with my family and went out of his way to provide my wife with tips for running and swimming during her stay. When we told him mid week that we were eating dinner off site, he offered to have the chef prepare a special dinner for us. We did not take him up on the offer but the gesture was very kind. The hotel location is perfect. Outside the hotel we found many restaurants and sports bars. Our favorite was Casa Morelos. Also close to the market where my wife and kids spent some time shopping for souvenirs. The only excursion we took was to Ixtapa Island. Unfortunately, it was the weekend of a Mexican holiday and it was packed. We had fun snorkeling but it would be best to avoid the weekend there. The best part of the vacation was the beaches and waves. We spent a lot of time in the water but were smart enough to stay out when the waves got over 20' high. The beach is great for walking and it took my wife and I about 75 minutes to walk it from end to end. Overall, a very nice vacation. Not a place to go if you want all the comforts of home (US), but that's exactly what we liked about it and why we plan to come back in the next 5 years again. https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g153445-d155708-r470828457-Holiday_Inn_Resort_Ixtapa-Ixtapa_Zihuatanejo_Pacific_Coast.html#

Where were some of the amenities?
Mar 21 2017
I am sure the description said steamroom sauna and min-golf. Sauna out of order. Steamroom could not be found. Mini-golf found but it looked like it was about year since it was last used. Parts of the resort does need updating. Entertainment was bad but that was expected. Food, , , , unlike other reviews, was not bad for buffets. Lots of selections, but some very odd selections. Chicken and beef dishes for breakfast? Cereal out for dinner? Drinks were fine. Snack foods not the best. Room had ants. Room in winter about 85 degrees with AC set at 68.

We have been vacationing in Ixtapa for many years. We always stay at the Holiday Inn because we know the staff there. Many of them have worked there for over 20 years and we always enjoy catching up with them when we return. Hugo and the activities department make it a lot of fun to play volleyball on the beach and to do water aerobics. We also enjoy taking the morning bike ride. The wait staff is always very friendly and we look forward to connecting with Manuel, Carlos, Lourdes, Zorayda, Thomas, Cesar, Alfredo, Samuel, Adan, and others. Cleofus the towel guy is also a love. They all go the extra mile and make our stay absolutely wonderful.

Review: Ixtapa Holiday Inn
Mar 31 2016
We were disappointed, and we know that we are not the only guests that felt so. We were quite dismayed when we arrived at hotel @ 12pm or so 3.20.16. Check in was extremely crowded, confusing and time consuming, > 1 hour. Our room and general quality of hotel and grounds was disappointing. The food was mediocre and seemed to be re-served in different combinations at subsequent meals. Worst of all was the feeling we had that many daytrippers/families arrived as the week progressed, making the dining areas, pool and beach extremely crowded and staff spread thin. We would have a appreciated more adult exercise options - we participated in one water aerobics class and the instructor (a young woman) was delightful. Nighttime entertainment was clearly directed at a much younger crowd (we are in our 50s). The lobbies and hallways at night were very noisy with revelers returning to their rooms. We would have a appreciated a small refrigerator in our room, or at the very least a hall way ice machine. The sun was lovely, but otherwise it's very unlikely that we'll be returning.

Pool service and beach service was not provided as it was in the past. The bar service was good when it was open however the bars were often closed. The air conditioner in our room did not work properly

Just relax!!
Jan 21 2016
We have stayed a number of times at the Presidente (now Holiday Inn) and have tremendously enjoyed every minute of it. From year to year we're able to reconnect with the staff because many of them have worked there for many years. They have become like family to us. Hugo and Stephanie and now Alberto are great activity hosts and we LOVE playing beach volleyball twice a day with them. Our room is always clean and the towel/floral arrangements are always a treat. The servers like Carlos, Rosario, Manuel, Samuel, Guierrmo, and Alfredo are always welcoming and go out of their way to make sure we have bacon and toast with our breakfasts and kahlua and ice cream for dessert after supper. The location of the hotel is perfect for walking the beach and for going to the shops and cafes and for catching the bus to go to Ixtapa Island. If you go into this place knowing it's not a brand new luxury resort, you'll have the vacation of a lifetime. Just RELAX!! and enjoy!!

Nice Hotel

Presidente Intercontinental is rated 4 apples which is about right. Older property but very well maintained. The staff is outstanding. Dining choices are limited. Only a buffet or one sit down choice each night. Lunch was buffet or burgers/hot dogs by the pool. Only one bar open at night so it was sometimes a trek to get a drink. Again, it isn't 5 or 6 apples so it met my expectations. Very good value for what we paid.

Too many local Nationals with a MILLION kids overtook the place on both weekends we were there, very disappointed. Could not have a peaceful day at the pool or beach. Bed too hard, air conditioning not great, food just ok. Staff was good but all did not speak English. Flight (Aeromexico) eexcellent & Piccante Sunset cruise great!

Excellent for economy minded travellers who don't require luxury lodging but who do enjoy safe, clean, comfortable accommodation, with friendly and attentive service. Apparently part of the original Ixtapa development in the 1970's, the resort has been maintained and upgraded. Our pool view room had modern plumbing, decor, television and effective air conditioning (controls locked at 20 degrees C. which, believe it or not is plenthy cool). Located roughly in the middle of the Ixtapa hotel strip, with a great beach area and a quick 15 minute bus ride to downtown Zihua. Housekeeping was fine, once we figured out the tricks. For fresh bedding you hang the appropriate sign on the door knob, for new towels put the old ones in the shower. We did this about every two days because the humidity when we were there was fierce. Towels and bathing suits neve dried completely, anything made of paper became limp and damp (the pages of our passports curled). You get used to it quickly though, especially after spending time on the beach. We enjoyed the food selections very much. There are 4 dining areas. The Fruitas y Flores buffet which is the main dining area off the lobby. La Terraza Restaurant, the a la carte location on the patio just off the main buffet, La Isla, a palapa roofed buffet restaurant by the beach and the Cana Brava snack bar by the pool bat (limited a la carte menu). You want to check the schedule/ activities guide issued by the front desk because not every location is open every day or for every meal. Twice a week Wednesday and Saturday(Mexican fiesta night-don't miss!) they shut everything down for dinner and move to the "Theatre" area outside the lobby for an outdoor buffet (very fun) The food is mainly Mexican, which makes sense because so are most of the guests. But he resort tries hard to provide variety with Oriental, Americano, Italiano & International nights. There's a very passable sushi bar on Oriental night. Right across the street there are also a number of other dining choices in the shopping areas, not to mention hundreds of affordable restaurants in Zihua, when you want to mix it up. The resort provides daily activities for adults and kids and nightly entertainment (Friday is the Disney show, terrific for families). Because the Ixtapa hotels are located on the beaches where sea turtles lay their eggs, hotel staff move the nests to turtle nurseries to protect them. When they hatch, the staff, with the help of the guests, release the baby turtles into the ocean. We took part in two release and it was a highlight of our vacation. Check with the front desk or the security staff if there's a scheduled release (usually 9PM. on the beach). The thing that really made our trip though, was the friendly and helpful staff (not a single unhappy experience all week). Special thanks to Ildefonsea (housekeeping) Teodoro & Roberto (bellmen) Filberto (La Isla) and Miguel (front desk) apologies to all those we missed and to those whose names we misspelled.

My husband and I stayed at this resort Dec. 3-10th. It’s a smaller resort compared to some others we stayed at in the Mayan Riveria. The resort used to be the “Presidente” and is now a Holiday Inn. The hotel is older but clean and comfortable. It is situated in the middle of hotels and condos right on the beach. We had an Oceanview room in the tower - 2 comfortable queen beds, blow dryer, couple bottles of water, soap, shampoo etc. our room had a shower and we did have issues with a lack of water pressure. It made rinsing thick hair a challenge. The food and drinks were very good! The omelet station is worth the wait for breakfast. The resort uses heavier plastic cups (size of red solo cups) for drinks. These are washed and reused. They ask guests not to bring coffee mugs or the like to get drinks. The staff were very friendly. The Mexican night on Saturday was fantastic! The resort was busy for part of our stay. Lots of families with small children. This did make it challenging to find a lounger by the pool. Lots of loungers on the beach. The beach is lovely -lots of soft sand and we enjoyed our beach walks. We had red flags during our stay so difficult to swim in the ocean. Martin, West Jet rep, was most helpful and arranged a private tour of Zihuatanejo for us. We also managed to take the public bus on our own ($12 peso pp one way) to Zihuatanejo. Just for comparison purposes, $100 pesos is approximately $6 cdn. Taxis are available everywhere and quite reasonable. We felt safe venturing off the resort. The shopping area across the street from the hotel has everything you may need e.g. bank, ATMs, pharmacy, small grocery store, clothing stores, bars, restaurants etc. We had a great vacation and hope to return in the future.

This was our 5th trip to the Holiday Inn Resort. We stayed from Nov-16 to the 28th. We have no complaints again. All staff are very friendly and helpful. Food and drinks are great. Visited Zihuatanejo twice and done lots of walking and exploring. Felt very safe anywhere we went. Walked around Ixtapa town almost daily and never once felt threatened in any way. We are always back to the resort by 10 or so pm so we dont do the nightlife off the resort.Walked to Playa Linda twice on the bike path and brought a bus back.We use the ATM at HSBC bank to exchange money. Very easy and a better rate than going to a teller. We like to get away from the tourist zones and and see different things and people were always friendly. I have seen travel advisories about travelling to Mexico but I've always felt safe. The beds are comfortable and the air conditioning worked good. We will definitely visit again as we have made many friends there. Thanks to Rodolfo and everyone else for a great holiday.

Had a great time at the holiday inn resort. The activities staff were amazing at bringing us into all the different activites and made us feel very comfortable in the resort. Visiting the town was great and really realacing. It was easy to take a local bus into zihuatenejo and spend the day at the local beaches including la ropa.

So Beautiful and so Relaxing

This was our second trip to Ixtapa , our last trip was in April and every thing was very dry, this trip we decided to visit in November. Every thing was so lush and green. Upon arrival at the front Desk at the Hotel we were greeted by a very friendly employee, we were quickly give our key to our room and taken then by a Bell man. I had asked for a room on the 3rd floor over looking the quiet pool with a king sized bed. That is exactly what they had for me. It happens to be the same room as our last Visit. I could not be happier, the room has had the bed updated since our last visit and the Bathroom had be completed renovated and updated. We spent a week at this Beautiful resort right on the beach and so close to everything. Ixtapa is so relaxing , the people are very friendly and you feel so safe walking around. We walked down the beach after 9pm, went across into the shopping areas after dark. The Staff at this resort are incredible, most of them have been there for 20 plus year. Carlos Huerta who is the Server at pool side is a wonderful person, always smiling and always remebers what you drink even from the day before. Our house keeper her name was Ellie and she left us the most incredible towel creatures each day. I have to say a special thank you to Donaciano Cano Navarrete, he was our Service Each day for Breakfast and lunch. We would walk into the restaurant , he new us by Name. Coffee on the table upon sitting down, OJ brought to the Table. Add to this the interesting conversations we had. I was very sad to leave as i felt as i was leaving a friend there. We did not take any tours this time, but during our last visit visited Ixtapa Island as well as going on a Jungle and Beach ATV tour. Another exciting 1st for us on this trip was being able to release baby turtles 3 nights at the hotel. The hotel has an area where the Turtles can safely Hatch and each night after they have hatched they allow guest to assist in their release back into then ocean Entertainment at the Hotel from the entertainment staff is Excellent, Carlo and Victor were always making it fun for all of the Guests. My only small complaint with the hotel was that the food was only Labled in Spanish, I not read Spanish. Hover I mentioned this to Carlo's and he personally brought the Hotel Chef to me and he was going to address this with the Hotel Manager. There are lots of things to do on the Beach, Jet Ski's $40 per half hour plus tip for the guys helping you on and off, the sea is rough there, there is also Para Sailing and Banana boat rides all are sold on the Beach. My personal Favorite was to Walk down the beach to the Massage huts. There are huts in both directions when you hit the beach left or right, I tried several ones this time. A one hour massage is $200 peso's , A tip is always appreciated. I found the best massages were giving in Hut 6 "Monce" . A tip when leaving the Zihuatanejo, make sure you eat before you go there, as there is not much in the way of food or restaurants any where in the AP as it is very small. Any Ways i know many people worry about Traveling to Mexico, I can tell you that going to Ixtapa is Safe and very beautiful
