Amazing vacation!

Everything about our hotel was wonderful. From the staff, the comfort of the room, to the beach and pool. I would recommend this hotel to any of my family and friends. At first glance we were questioning an all inclusive holiday inn, however this was unlike any other holiday inn you would find in the states. My mother and I traveled together and would choose Ixtapa and the holiday inn again.

Great Family Vacation
PATRICK K.
Mar 28 2017
We take a big family vacation about once every 5 years and came back to Ixtapa after not having been here for 15 years. To our delight, it has not changed much. We decided to go all-inclusive this time since our kids were older and of drinking age. It worked out very well for our family. The food, which seems to be the issue with most reviewers, was fine. You have to remember that Ixtapa is a vacation destination for mostly vacationing Mexicans and the food selections caters to that. We found it refreshing to be eating authentic Mexican food for breakfast and lunch (dinners we always ate at a local restaurant outside the resort). The only suggestion I would give is to have fresh fruit available ALWAYS. That should be a staple on every buffet every day, breakfast and lunch. The drinks were also good but would prefer larger cups than what they offered (good idea to bring an insulated mug so you can consolidate a few into one). Bartenders were friendly, except for one in the sports bar...wish I remembered his name. One night there was a Mexican Fiesta dinner in the courtyard, and what a presentation that was! It took them literally two days to set up and we were not disappointed. Again, authentic Mexican fare for dinner with different food stations scattered throughout the courtyard. Very impressive. The pools were nice but was not a big fan of the "shallow" pool. We spent most of our time at the "quiet" pool and it worked well for us. Didn't appreciate that they allowed smoking poolside but they did a pretty good job of policing that and other unwanted activity. Pools looked like they could use a little cleaning around the inside rims....kind of a slimy ring around it. Rooms were nice and cleaned well. Nice soaps and hair products. Can't say enough about Jorge at the front desk. He was very accommodating with my family and went out of his way to provide my wife with tips for running and swimming during her stay. When we told him mid week that we were eating dinner off site, he offered to have the chef prepare a special dinner for us. We did not take him up on the offer but the gesture was very kind. The hotel location is perfect. Outside the hotel we found many restaurants and sports bars. Our favorite was Casa Morelos. Also close to the market where my wife and kids spent some time shopping for souvenirs. The only excursion we took was to Ixtapa Island. Unfortunately, it was the weekend of a Mexican holiday and it was packed. We had fun snorkeling but it would be best to avoid the weekend there. The best part of the vacation was the beaches and waves. We spent a lot of time in the water but were smart enough to stay out when the waves got over 20' high. The beach is great for walking and it took my wife and I about 75 minutes to walk it from end to end. Overall, a very nice vacation. Not a place to go if you want all the comforts of home (US), but that's exactly what we liked about it and why we plan to come back in the next 5 years again. https://www.tripadvisor.com/ShowUserReviews-g153445-d155708-r470828457-Holiday_Inn_Resort_Ixtapa-Ixtapa_Zihuatanejo_Pacific_Coast.html#

I am sure the description said steamroom sauna and min-golf. Sauna out of order. Steamroom could not be found. Mini-golf found but it looked like it was about year since it was last used. Parts of the resort does need updating. Entertainment was bad but that was expected. Food, , , , unlike other reviews, was not bad for buffets. Lots of selections, but some very odd selections. Chicken and beef dishes for breakfast? Cereal out for dinner? Drinks were fine. Snack foods not the best. Room had ants. Room in winter about 85 degrees with AC set at 68.

We have been vacationing in Ixtapa for many years. We always stay at the Holiday Inn because we know the staff there. Many of them have worked there for over 20 years and we always enjoy catching up with them when we return. Hugo and the activities department make it a lot of fun to play volleyball on the beach and to do water aerobics. We also enjoy taking the morning bike ride. The wait staff is always very friendly and we look forward to connecting with Manuel, Carlos, Lourdes, Zorayda, Thomas, Cesar, Alfredo, Samuel, Adan, and others. Cleofus the towel guy is also a love. They all go the extra mile and make our stay absolutely wonderful.

Review: Ixtapa Holiday Inn

We were disappointed, and we know that we are not the only guests that felt so. We were quite dismayed when we arrived at hotel @ 12pm or so 3.20.16. Check in was extremely crowded, confusing and time consuming, > 1 hour. Our room and general quality of hotel and grounds was disappointing. The food was mediocre and seemed to be re-served in different combinations at subsequent meals. Worst of all was the feeling we had that many daytrippers/families arrived as the week progressed, making the dining areas, pool and beach extremely crowded and staff spread thin. We would have a appreciated more adult exercise options - we participated in one water aerobics class and the instructor (a young woman) was delightful. Nighttime entertainment was clearly directed at a much younger crowd (we are in our 50s). The lobbies and hallways at night were very noisy with revelers returning to their rooms. We would have a appreciated a small refrigerator in our room, or at the very least a hall way ice machine. The sun was lovely, but otherwise it's very unlikely that we'll be returning.

We have stayed a number of times at the Presidente (now Holiday Inn) and have tremendously enjoyed every minute of it. From year to year we're able to reconnect with the staff because many of them have worked there for many years. They have become like family to us. Hugo and Stephanie and now Alberto are great activity hosts and we LOVE playing beach volleyball twice a day with them. Our room is always clean and the towel/floral arrangements are always a treat. The servers like Carlos, Rosario, Manuel, Samuel, Guierrmo, and Alfredo are always welcoming and go out of their way to make sure we have bacon and toast with our breakfasts and kahlua and ice cream for dessert after supper. The location of the hotel is perfect for walking the beach and for going to the shops and cafes and for catching the bus to go to Ixtapa Island. If you go into this place knowing it's not a brand new luxury resort, you'll have the vacation of a lifetime. Just RELAX!! and enjoy!!

Presidente Intercontinental is rated 4 apples which is about right. Older property but very well maintained. The staff is outstanding. Dining choices are limited. Only a buffet or one sit down choice each night. Lunch was buffet or burgers/hot dogs by the pool. Only one bar open at night so it was sometimes a trek to get a drink. Again, it isn't 5 or 6 apples so it met my expectations. Very good value for what we paid.

Another Great Stay At The Holiday Inn

Our stay for the most part was great, 2 nights the air conditioner wasn't working properly but they got it fixed. Our room was nice, everything worked and the maids kept it very clean. The food was tasty and fresh, kinda repetitive but good. The beach is one of the nicest one I've been at, it's wide and flat. The water can be unpredictable so we did a lot of relaxing under the palapas and had a drink. They have amazing guys bringing you drinks on the beach. The weather is always awesome, we just enjoyed our time so much and will definitely be back. We had a photo shoot done by the photographer on site. his name is Julio, he did and amazing job!! Thank you so much to all the staff who work so hard at making our stay so enjoyable.

We were a family of 7 - with 5 adults and two pre teens. We all had the most amazing vacation at the Holiday Inn Ixtapa. We traveled with Sunwing and had excellent flight times and all ran ON time- in fact we left early. We were so pleased with our room - we were in the little bunglows and facing the garden and front entrance. The room was perfect and spacious for 2. The bathroom had a huge walk in shower - lots of HOT water - really nice towels and toiletries. Enough drawers and cupboards and hangars for both our clothes. The KING bed was so comfortable with really nice linens-changed daily- a big difference from the Beds in Cuba (Ouch). I was thrilled we had very restful sleeps. One night was a bit loud with music...but there was a celebration outside..it ended soon enough. The rooms were cleaned daily and they were pretty spotless. Its an old complex but better than I expected, really well run. I cannot say enough about the staff there. They are the most friendly people, and so attentive its almost embarrassing. If you even glanced at a waiter he was there at your table. Premium service. We just loved the food. So much Original cuisine to choose from. I ate as authentic as I could every day. The fruit was glorious, great bread and pretty good wine. The drinks were very good. The resort seemed smaller than I thought and was not too busy, more busy on the weekend, obviously a favorite of locals too. Never had trouble finding a pool chair or a beach chair. They supplied Massive Fluffy beach towels, and if I had one complaint..it would be the pool chairs... I dislike the ones that are at this resort. They are the hammock style-I find you cannot sit comfortably in them. But that is my only complaint. The beaches are naturally very clean-no seaweed or debris and the water in April was very warm. Big waves all the time...so was very much enjoyed by our family. Except for the 2 pounds of sand in your pants.. The sea was gorgeous. Not one drop of rain nor one cloud interfered with this vacation. Literally across the street was a huge market with restaurants, shops, Ice Cream. Also two bank machines very close to the resort one HSBC and one other. The sidewalks and streets are very clean and easy to walk, with great bike paths in the middle. I wish I had rented a bike. All in all we highly recommend this resort - Its perfectly situated and the beach was amazing, but mostly I must say the Mexican people are really lovely (Like Canadians) and the staff at this resort went above and beyond to make our vacation very fun and special. I will BE BACK VERY SOON

Wonderful staff. Fantastic location. Quiet beach.

My boyfriend and I went to get away from the rain. I was able to book a perfect room thanks to Alajandra. The reservation manager. We also booked a private tour of the ruins and a beach lunch through guest services men. Gerardo and Victor. We were really pleased with it all. We will come back next year

Not a 4 star resort

This resort needs upgrades. The buffet tastes good but has very limited selection. Fiesta night, Friday, is great though. Our first room balcony was too small to sit on and face the ocean as it only had room for the chair. And it smelled of mildew terribly. We requested a second room and the balcony was right on the ocean and our king bed very comfortable. But for 3 nights we had a lot of trouble with the ac, which was finally fixed day 4. Ixtapa is HOT. The two pools are very nice, and I can’t say enough about the staff. From the front desk to the repairmen to the beach bar and restaurant staff as housekeepers etc, they were all beyond excellent trying to make your stay as comfortable as possible. But truly, this is a 2-3 star resort simply because of the hotel itself.

The Good: Location (across from Dining and Shopping) Cleanliness of the rooms Ocean view from the room The Bad: No Fridges in the Rooms so there is nothing restocked except 1 or 2 bottles of water daily No Drinks until after 11 am Only amenities put in the room is a bar of soap and a small shampoo Have a coffee maker in the room but they don't put any glasses or cups, sugar, coffee in there The food was terrible. I have been to AI's all over Mexico and the Carribean and never got food poisoning until this resort. So many locals on the resort (100 to 1) Entertainment and activities are all in Spanish The Ugly The front desk staff are terrible to deal with. They don't know what they are doing. Rude and dismissive. There is no consistency at all. The resort cheaps out on everything. Never been to a AI resort that cut our bracelets off but wouldn't let us eat in the buffet for lunch or have a drink while we waited for our cab. Even though we didn't have to check out until 1pm and it was only noon. They use plastic Solo cups all over the resort. The problem is they REUSE them. There is no way then can possibly get the water hot enough to sanitize them properly. They should be disposed of and recycled. They also refuse to fill up your re-usable travel mugs. Elevators barely work. Only two worked while we were there. Constant fear of being stuck in one. So many things wrong with this Holiday Inn that IHG should be embarrassed to include this hotel in their inventory. Worst Holiday Inn I have ever had the misfortune of staying at. Avoid at all costs.
