Nice Place to Spend HHonors Points

I'm loyal to Hilton and had a bunch of points to spend so I decided to stay here. We normally stay at a much smaller, local hotel when in Puerto Vallarta but I was quite impressed with this Hilton! It's an all-inclusive resort which mostly means that you get a wristband slapped on your wrist at check-in which you flash for "free" mediocre meals at their boring tourist restaurants and watered down drinks by the pool and at all hotel bars. I had never stayed at an all-inclusive resort before, but there are some positives and negatives about the experience. The huge negative is I feel that it encourages visitors to never venture outside the property. If you're a traveler who never leaves the comforts of the American style hotel, then why bother traveling in the first place? Luckily it was super easy to get a taxi right out front but we didn't see many other guests ever venturing out of their comfort zone. The hotel has a good location but it's about an hour long walk into Old Town. Doable, but not fun when it's humid outside. It's best to grab a quick cab. Our hotel room was clean and well appointed, very spacious with a gorgeous view. The resort has a very nice pool and a private beach area, and the employees were all so helpful and friendly down to the lobby bartenders to the housekeeping staff. We chose to dine at the "Mexican" restaurant at the hotel one night just because it was included, and it was okay but far from authentic food. I had mole and hubby had a burrito, and neither was memorable at all. Even the salsas weren't spicy! I was super disappointed because I wanted to order the fresh churros for dessert but we were told that they were out of them. (We walked down the street later that night and hit up a local taco truck and it was crazy good, much better than the Hilton's "gourmet" restaurant). I did like the huge spread at the breakfast buffet, however. The best part of the all-inclusive package is that you've already paid for just about everything. We did enjoy having drinks whenever we wanted them, and the minibar in the room was completely free to use. The bad was that it totally gave us an easy excuse for day drinking! There's a great rooftop bar with a spectacular view, especially at dusk! Head up there for a little romance. I probably would stay here again, especially if I could spend my Hilton points to do so.

3 star facilities 1 star food TUI need look at their ratings. For the amount of money we paid for 2weeks all inclusive the food was appalling. Had to eat out 10 nights due to food being cold or luke warm. Tried French restaurant 1 night service was way below par (had to ask for spoon for soup), then main courses were on the table before we had finished starters. Tried to give us another tables starters when finished our mains. Had room service 1 night, food arrived stone cold. Desperately disappointed nowhere near 5*

Great for all inclusive

Staff was very helpful overall and almost always friendly and accommodating. Accommodations were satisfactory, rooms were clean overall but could use a little more cleanliness especially the dust on the floors. The beds were comfortable and pillows were great.

Good luck getting a pool chair

Every darn chair at the pool and the beach was "reserved" with towels, books etc from sunrise to sunset. And most sat empty all day. Talk about frustrating. Talked to the desk manager about it but as you can imagine nothing was done. The drinks were also very watered down, I ended up drinking my own. On the up side the room was the nicest we had seen in Mexico and I thought the food was good. Activities were minimal (good by me) and at least they didn't blast rap music around the pool. Not that you could sit by the pool but I bet the towels enjoyed it. Fix the lounge chair problem and it would be a pretty good place.

I’ll start with the good - the location is convenient if you are planning lots of excursions. It’s a 5 minute walk to the marina and there are a number of stores/restaurants nearby. The people are all super nice and are as helpful as they can be with what they have to work with. The bad - I cannot stress with words how bad the food was. I am not a foodie... give me a Wendy’s hamburger and I’m happy. We ate at the buffet the first night because we arrived late and it was easy. It was bad - bad look, bad texture, bad taste. Refried beans looked like they were made with a can of water added for every can of beans. We heard from some other guests that the specialty restaurants were better, so the second night we tried the Brazilian place. There was really nothing Brazilian about it other than they had “meat on a stick,” similar to what a churrascaría would serve. The meat was dry and it was ~15 minutes between waiters that would drop a 2 ounce piece of meat on your plate. There was nothing that was actually Brazilian in the restaurant... Spanish rice, mashed potatoes, sliced American deli meats, etc. After day two, we ate all meals offsite, although twice we went to the buffet first to see if it looked any better... it did not. The AC in the room was filled with mold so badly that we were unable to run the AC without making the room uninhabitable in minutes. We asked to be moved to a different room, but the only three other rooms they had available suffered for the same problem. I am leaving on day seven with a sinus and respiratory infection which I’ve had for the last two days. I could understand if this was some random hotel in a run down area, but this is by far the worst Hilton I have ever seen. We would not stay in this hotel again even if it was free.
