I’m so glad I came to this resort. It is beautiful and very spacious. I would definitely come back. I had an amazing time and so did my bf. The staff is very attentive to what you need and how to improve the resort more. I loved that.

A Bit of Paradise (and how best to deal with issues rather than gripe about it here)

Just returned from an all to short week at this resort. We stayed in the Hideaway at the Royalton and di the "Diamond Club" upgrade. Beautiful spacious room most comfortable mattress and pillows to match. Very friendly staff and for the most part exceptionally helpful. Located across a beach with a multitude of pools which allow you to either be around some noisy types with loud music if that is your choice or at a quieter pool or beach if that is less of your desire! The Hideaway gives that option even better as one can escape around the corner to an area only accessible to Hideaway guests and is child free. Has its own bar which produces some good bar snacks. The Diamond Club at the other end of the beach has its' own pool and bar and produces some very good bar snacks. I am not sure there is any real value in the upgrade to Diamond Club if you are already in the Hideaway. The restaurants- First is the Dorado only accessible to Hideaway guests, good food and service nominally seafood, but other non fish dishes also available. Second the Zen Japanese- a must visit. A Tepanyaki show and a great night out. Also sushi available here. Third Hunter steak restaurant- nice ambience good food (excellent steaks) especially the Tournedos Fourth Calypso-Creole style food. Good food nice clean environment. Fifth Gourmet Marche.- Buffet style food but equally some of the best fresh food/ fruit, vegetables in the resort. I never understand why people will post a review moaning that food in these places is lukewarm as to an extent this is inevitable when you are feeding hundreds and the food is kept warm over burners. If you want piping hot food go to a restaurant and have your food cooked individually!! Sixth- Grazie -Italian, sadly would not want to return too this one, Food ok but clearly has staff issues. If there is a restaurant manager in this restaurant they clearly need to take this in hand and do some serious staff training. Seventh - (only because we didn't visit it) -Tex-Mex Sports facilities- excellent gym, well equipped, well air conditioned. Sports activities- TRX, boot camp (circuit train) Yoga, Kick boxing are all well run by the ever smiling Delan and Everton. Beach sports- limited number of paddle boards and Kayaks, only one functional Hobie Cat which suffered a ripped sail after 2 days of use and then out of action thereafter. Bad Stuff - We had issues with there being no rescue boat available for our first three days and therefore no waterspouts were possible.. We also had issues with lack of information surrounding the activities, in that no reception staff seemed to know anything about them and the TV screens which were supposed to carry info regarding them was never updated. I am not sure whether this is because the general manager does not see any value in the sports on offer and is more interested in making sure that the restaurants and bars run smoothly (just a hunch) After moaning at the various people at the beach reception etc and unable to contact our invisible butler, we went to manager services (in the lobby opposite reception) The following day there was a rescue boat on the beach so that problem was resolved very quickly. However the TV screens were not updated. So 2 days later we returned having again been to reception and asked when the Yoga was, and again being greeted with blank faces, and again complained to the manager services explaining that in effect we were acting rather like a secret shopper and he had been caught out! Having promised something had been sorted (As by then we already knew the answer) and finding that he hadn't followed through. Again very apologetic and this time the TV activities list were updated. So credit where it is due. We also received the courtesy of a private transfer to the airport when we left two days later by way of an apology. So overall a very good experience, and if you do have any concerns don't be shy to complain, as they will address things

Not a hideaway

Initially good impression nice large room well decorated, modern, light contemporary nice large spa bath and double shower. Restaurants are good great night in the Zen and excellent steak in the steak house nice Italian, and hot food from room service. heard others complaining about the coldness of the food in the buffet but we never ate in there so can not comment. Although we had a good holiday and met some great people there are several issues that in my opinion the hotel is overdeveloped and not 5*. The Hideaway is simply several blocks within the same complex as the Royalton with it's own beach bar and pool, however the pool is directly above the Royalton pool so not secluded as the name suggests, it has its "own" beach in reality this is part of the small beach for the whole resort with a small area literally roped off. It has 1 restaurant solely for the use of Hideaway guests, food good service a bit hit and miss although hats off to Sabryana excellent service friendly and polite, unlike the member of staff that tutted at me, when I pointed out that my order was wrong. In a nutshell that is the difference between being a Hideaway guest and a Royalton guest. As for the rest of the resort this hotel has only been opened since Feb 17 in mine and others we spoke to the hotel has many issues some areas are very tatty for a relatively new hotel, the day beds on the beach all curtains either missing or large rips back bars missing so cushions fall off. Sun bed cushions look as if the have been in use for years, badly stained and torn. we did have a storm why we were there but the condition was bad before the storm as every time I mentioned this staff would respond " we've had a storm" ( we were in Cuba when Hurricane George struck and the hotel lost the glass dome roof with 24 hours you would never have known a hurricane happened) but here 9- 14 days later were still blaming the storm. Pool not cleaned sufficiently only saw them cleaning it with a large net daily and once in 2 weeks with the pool "Hoover" I never saw the paving areas around pool cleaned most places I've stayed you see them at least hosing down the paved areas. One morning at approx 7.15 I noticed 4 glasses of drinks on the side of the pool ( Royalton Pool) half filled with drink at 3.30 I took them to bar they had obviously been there since the previous day. The hotel is overdeveloped for the size of the small beach ( amazed how they make it look so big in photos !) the hotel was not at full capacity when we were there but I should image you would have difficulty in finding a sun bed when they are. You certainly won't find a parasol as they only had 72 and that included all the damaged ones for 800 + guests. Get you drinks order in fast as the bars frequently run out !! No beer one day no rum no fruit for cocktails and they have to go off and get new supplies. Rooms given a cursory clean razor behind door on arrival we put in bin on day 3. Tea coffee and sugar never replenished had to ring every day although they did respond quite quickly and I asked why was this not done the girl sighed and said you tell me. After day 5 gave up and and when the brought it up after my call I took handfuls and when that ran out did the same again. Our balcony on arrival was very coffee/drink stained but thought no worries that will be cleaned tomorrow, despite having mentioned this on at least 2 satisfaction surveys that staff come up to you while you're by the pool/ beach to fill out the balcony remained same until we left even though on the 2nd survey I did say I had already mentioned this he assured me he would get it dealt with. Martini bar often runs of martini glasses so you have your martini in a tumbler !! Along with your champagne . Loud Rap type music played by pool most of the afternoon just as you want to read or sleep despite several requests by a few guests to turn it down and / or play more mellow music, they continued to play it. At weekends locals get a day pass and the bars and pool areas become very busy and noisy. Excellent aqua aerobics not the usual splashing about a real workout. In all an overdeveloped site for the size of the beach, and grounds if you like a stroll along the beach this is not the place for you as it takes literary 5 - 10 mins from one side to the other, hit and miss service. Hideaway inappropriately named it is not a Hideaway. Hopefully I have attached photos of the sun beds and balcony . Would not let me do the hotel ratings on this review but they are Service 2 - 3 Rooms 4-5 Cleaniness 2-3

Good but not great

We went for our honeymoon, so we spent top dollar with the thought that we would only do this once so we should go full out. After a full week, I definitely wouldn't return to this resort, but possibly also not to this island. EVERYONE wants to sell you something. All beaches are public, so there were hockers that pestered us to buy their excursions 3 days in a row, after we had already told them we had booked ours. We got sucked into a 2 hour "not a timeshare (but really, a timeshare)" sales spiel through the resort. (JUST TELL THEM NO.) Each excursion - including snorkeling in this little alcove - had locals pushing you to buy stuff. As well, the bars never seemed to be well-stocked, which is unacceptable for the size of the resort. We were told that some bartenders had to hide their liquor because other bartenders would come empty their bottles, leading me to believe management was just cheap. That's all hearsay; however, it explains the experience of inadequacy at the bars. The resort randomly shut down restaurants, leaving us scrambling to get a table for dinner. And, the only restaurant that exceeded my expectations was Calypso. All the others were mediocre. I don't want to sound like the trip was all terrible. The accommodations and pools were clean. The gym was FANTASTIC. The island is inexpressibly beautiful. Maybe research other resorts and hire a private car to do your own, nongroup excursions.
