Great place for a free spirited vacation

Our 40th trip to Negril, and 30+ to Hedo. Overall, a great vacation. Arrived at ~2:30pm on a Saturday, and hit immigration just ahead of several other planes. Total time from deplane to exiting the airport: ~20 minutes. Had another 20 min. wait for the Sunholidays bus, then a nice ride to Negril - arrived at 4:15pm. Check-in was fast - much better than past years. The new dining room furniture was very nice - comfortable & tasteful. All other facilities were good and well maintained. The wine bar, courtyard & updated bathrooms are particularly well done. Food overall was great. The main dining room buffet was open only Sat, Mon, and Fri. nights, due to low occupancy. The buffet food was superb - wide assortment of dishes (incl. lobster/shrimp saute, jerk pork, curry goat, snapper w/ caper sauce, etc...) and all were excellent. Other nights, the buffet area had snacks like fruit and cheese. The 3 specialty restaurants were all open for dinner most every other night. The Flame restaurant on the prude beach was very good - a rather small menu, but great filet, shrimp, etc... Pastafari had it's usual nice assortment of Italian dishes, as well as filet & lamb chops - all very good. The sushi at Harry-san was quite good. The menu has several free types of sushi, plus a few higher-end types for extra cost. Bars were all very well stocked, with plenty of top shelf liquors like Grey Goose, Patron, Don Julio, Cointreau, etc. So-so bottled lime juice was used throughout, which was unfortunate, considering the otherwise high end libations. No more ginger beer - too bad for fans of Moscow Mules and Dark & Stormys. The buffet breakfasts had a nice assortment of Jamaican dishes as well as all the usual American stuff. Lunches were good as well, with an assortment of hot dishes, pasta, salad bar, fruit, etc... similar to the past couple of years. Very good food overall - better than I'd typically expect at an AI. Dining and kitchen staff were excellent. I was surprised to find that the desserts (which were significantly better than any past year) are all made in-house. Kudos. We had an ocean view standard room. Nicely updated decor (as of ~1.5 years ago), and comfortable. New individual AC units are being installed in all of the nude-side rooms. We had one (as most rooms did), and it worked great. (The temperature setting on the remote control is in deg. C, so be prepared to convert if you're a deg F. person.) The bathroom is similar to the past few years, except the fancy multi-head shower (that was a hassle to operate) was replaced with a regular shower head & temp control. A bit more basic, but easier to use and worked well. One minor concern was that the shower temp would occasionally get scalding hot when nearby rooms flushed their toilet. The beach and grounds were all very good - very nicely tended. Occupancy was low (maybe 30%?), so chairs, tables, floats, etc... were never in short supply. Weather was great - a couple of afternoon showers, but sunny most of every day. Scuba and snorkel boats were in good shape, and the watersports staff was great as always. Scuba trips were superb as usual - the dive team is very professional & attentive - particularly for less experienced divers. Kudos. We had a quick tour of some upgrades in process for the prude side, where the bathrooms are being gutted and completely redone. They looked VERY nice - an excellent upgrade, with tasteful mosaic tile accents, nice new sinks, showers, and frosted glass doors. This will be a great improvement, since the bathrooms in most of the standard rooms are tired and need an update. Entertainment was excellent. The house band is superb, and the EC team does routines that are quite professional, and far exceed what I'd expect at an AI resort. The staff was great across the board - from the groundskeepers to the front office. Well done. Overall, a very nice vacation, where you can party like a rock star, or chill out as desired. More>

We were struggling with where to spend our 28th wedding anniversary. We live in the mountains and we'd had a rough year on a lot of fronts. I really wanted a beach, but my beloved thought it would be out of our budget. After searching Cabo, Puerto Vallerta and several other all-inclusive locations, Hedonism II came up in my search. I'd heard of it years ago but had forgotten all about it. The price was right, the features were right… We weren't looking for a clothing optional resort, but I don't have a problem with that, so I booked it. My husband was not so thrilled with the clothing optional part, so I booked our room on the "prude" side where the beach is not mandatory nude. September is the slow season, so when we arrived we were informed that we had been upgraded to an ocean view room… On the nude beach side of the resort. There just wasn't enough business to justify keeping the prude rooms open. It turned out to be just the first of many delightful surprises. The rooms are…adequate. Nothing fancy, but the bed was comfortable, the water pressure sufficient, and the air-conditioner worked just fine. The first room we were assigned was near the nude pool, where we had heard the party can go on into the late hours. So we asked to be moved and ended up with a room that was pretty much in line with the border between the nude and the prude beach. Really, with a beach just outside of our door, the room served all of its intended purposes Let me clarify here and say we are not swingers. We met several people who were there for that aspect of Hedo. Some were with the many groups that come back again and again, and some were first timers traveling on their own. The ones who were not with groups expressed dismay over the "lack of action". Since that wasn't part of our attraction to the resort, we were not negatively impacted. In fact, we rather enjoyed the off-season low-key feeling - no lines or delays, uncrowded beaches, etc. The swingers never pressured us in anyway and everyone seemed to get along quite well regardless of their interests and inclinations. So for those of you who want to know about the late-night activities, please check the other reviews. Our evenings were of a much more private nature. As a result, we did not check out the rendezvous space or the disco. Both of the beaches, prude and nude, are pretty nice. We were able to snorkel right off of the beach. They do offer excursions but we were satisfied where we were. Yes, they do enforce nudity on the nude beach after about 10 minutes. But as others have said, nudity is enough of a norm at Hedo that it's pretty well, natural! Even my reluctant spouse took it all off and frolicked the week away! (The dining areas require some degree of coverage, if for nothing other than health reasons, I imagine) There are three restaurants, two poolside grills (nude and prude) plus the buffet. Friday nights are the chefs grand buffet and the restaurants are closed. We ate at two of the restaurants – Flame, the steakhouse and Harry San, with teppenyaki table- prepared Asian cuisine. Well I would not call the cuisine world class, there are some real highlight such as the jerk chicken and the patties. Alcohol is call brands and also plentiful. If ganja is more your thing, a couple of vendors ply the beach all day. One of them, who goes by the name of "shell boy" seems to specialize in ganja while the other guy, whose name I did not get, reportedly offers other intoxicants as well. There are also women at the far end of the prude beach who will sell you overpriced tchotchkes. Some were pretty mercenary but others were very sweet - we spent quite a while talking to a few of them. and considering the poverty of the country, we had no problem paying a little too much for a few of them. Others have said it and I will repeated: what really makes Hedo is the staff. From the entertainers, to the front desk people, to the housekeepers, bartenders, spa personnel and even the groundskeepers… Everyone goes out of their way to make sure their guests are happy. We've traveled all over the United States and to a handful of foreign countries and I can honestly say neither of us have ever experienced this quality of service, although some four star resorts have come close. Even in the off-season, the resort was well-maintained with the beach being groomed every day as well as the landscaping. There are multiple pools and spas on the property, several private areas and poolside beds that never wanted for attention for more than a few minutes. Particular shout outs to Austin, the amazing omelette man, and Conroy, who met us once the first day and remembered our names as we were leaving the last day even though we didn't see him in between. The house band is pretty awesome and can play anything, really anything, well!! Kudos to the guitar player, and to the singers, both male and female. Y'all rock steady! And thank you to the staff people who arrange to have a bottle of champagne and fruit plate delivered to our room the evening of our anniversary! I wish I recalled more of the staff by name, because every single one of them deserves personal recognition. When you arrive at Hedo, you are greeted with "welcome home". It's not just a slogan here, it's a way of service. And we will most certainly be back! More>

This is my second trip and we had a great time. The only downfall was that we went during "slow" season. We'll definitely be back when there are events being held. The staff was great, especially Damian Allen who works in guest relations. He was very helpful from the beginning, even before we arrived. We communicated via emails and his customer service is outstanding. More>

4th visit, fantastic staff, great food, great people. Only place in the world where you can just "be". It's not for everyone, but you don't have to do everything, or anything for that matter. Don't be afraid, it's not as bad as everyone thinks it is.... unless you want it to be. Everyone is accepted for who they are, not what they do or how old you young you are. Once you go, you'll know. Nuff said. More>
