YSW Takeover
RamblingMariner, Melbourne, Florida
Sat Aug 13 09:30:23 EDT 2016
This review is long overdue. We made our first trip to Hedo with YSW back in October. Wow. First the transfer. We opted to just take the bus transfer vice the TimAir option since it's kind of pricey. The bus ride was fine, we even stopped for a bathroom break and beers along the way, but that's because it took so long we really needed to. It seemed like it was about an hour and a half from MBJ to the resort. Once we showed up the check in was a little hectic. They were in the middle of renovations so we had to do a haphazard check in at the piano bar. Within 20 minutes we were off to our room. We spent a little more to be on the nude side and we figured it would be nice to have an ocean view so we splurged for that as well. We were a bit disappointed to find that being on the second floor, you had to squint to see through the trees to see the water. The room we had was very dated, but more than adequate for the short time we spent sleeping there ;) We visited with some new friends we made in their jacuzzi suite room and it had been totally updated and was quite nice. We must admit that we did get sick for about a day while we were here. Talking to veterans they were of the opinion it was because of the A/C in our room. They recommended taking a can of Lysol and dousing it before using it. This really sucked being out of the game for a day but it won't keep us from coming back, we'll just have to pack some cleaning supplies! Our first dining experience was at the beach grill on the prude side. There were a number of options to choose from but of course we had to get the jerk chicken since that's the grill's specialty. It was delicious and had a nice kick to it. To move onto the other food venues, the main dining area is quite good. Apparently it had just recently been renovated. The food options were always ample, breakfast, lunch and dinner. The lines for the omelet bar at breakfast and the pasta bar at dinner can get pretty long, but other than that everything was great. I especially loved the make your own mimosas at breakfast. It's a much better way of doing it than having to order 6 on your own ;) We did the Italian restaurant one night and the food was very good. The nude pool grill has an array of tasty choices during the day but late night it seems like they mostly only do pizza. One night after some pool aerobics we ordered a pizza and we waited a good half hour to get it. Not cool. They should have faster food options available late night, it would be easier for everyone including the cook. The nude pool bar is fantastic. I can't remember the ladies names right now but they are so damn fast! They have to be with so many people downing lots of drinks. I got a few dirty bananas (you have to try it if you haven't) but didn't want to order too many since it's a rather labor intensive drink. You're at Hedo so don't even worry about the prude pool. We only went over there when our group had events there. The nude pool is where all the fun is and where you'll want to spend all of your time. The club is one of the more outdated parts of the resort. It's not bad at night when you're intended to be there, but if you happen to wonder in during the day and see it in the light it's not too good looking. Our group had some great theme nights and the foam party was awesome. I'm pretty sure we washed thoroughly after the foam party but it made our skin super tight the next day. May want to exfoliate after that one. The play room was a place that usually didn't' have too many people in it. The first night the group had an event up there we packed it pretty well but in subsequent nights it was pretty quiet. It's not a bad space and the Roman pool is a nice touch to cool down after some vigorous activities. All in all we had an excellent time. The YSW group is a wild bunch with tons of energy. I'm sure we'd have fun even outside of this group but they have so many great activities that you WANT to do that keep you busy the whole time. I'd imagine with another group there'd be less of these and we may focus on other aspects of the resort and that's not why we come! Bottom line, if you want 5 stars and you only care about a luxurious resort then don't come here. If you want to have a wild time and don't care where you spend your 4 hours a morning sleeping then this is place for you. More>

Absolutely Loved It!!!!

This was my 9th trip back Home... this is also the first time I was single. The group I'm with made my trip the best (Freaky Family). Booking through Cocktails International takes away any issues or concerns. Cocktails takes care of the booking, transportation, and they make sure your trip is the way you want it. Now the actual review: The negative: it really isn't a negative as the rooms haven't been updated, and I DON"T CARE! I did see the bathroom renovation on one of the rooms out towards the end of the prude side, and they will be as nice as a 5 star hotel. My A/C had issues, but we worked it out so that it was working at night when I went to bed...treat people with respect and understanding and you get it back! The food was even better than any previous times...Anthony, you are simply the best chef ever! Usually on a ten day stay the food gets boring around the 7th day...not this time. The variety and taste is incredible. The new "steak house" down by the prude beach was a real hit. The other restaurants, Japanese steakhouse and the Pastafari were great as usual. My eggs cooked by Austin each morning were perfect, he is a master! The staff was and is simply the best. They remember your name, and everyone of them has a greeting when you pass by. I don't drink, but I still have favorite bartenders: Alicia, Paulette, Tista, Michelle were always accommodating and friendly. Eaton and the rest of the EC crew gave the pool area energy. I fell in love with Marsha, an EC member, and tried to figure out how to get her to come home with me...just kidding... she is great! My housekeeper (room 1154) who I never saw, made my room spotless every single day. Incredibly clean... which is why I don't care about the old rooms. I do want to mention that there were several groups there at the same time. A huge "diversity" if you get my drift... and it was fantastic! The world needs more of this. There is no room for prejudice or judgment at Hedo and it really showed thru this time. I came up with the idea of having all the world leaders be forced to go there with their spouses, lock them away for a week, and I would bet a lot of problems would be solved! I look forward to my trip to Jamaica every year... having missed last year, it seemed like a piece of my soul was missing for most of the year. Even though I was single, I had a great time, a lot of fun, and will continue to come back again and again. This is really the only place I can actually relax. One hint: I went "completely off the grid" meaning, no cell phone, laptop or any communication with the "outside world"...that is the way to truly enjoy your vacation. More>

Hedo's rooms, food, inhouse entertainment and security aparatus has vastly been improved by the new owners. The rooms has been renovated The main resturant provide mouth watering Jamaican dishes along with other tasty international dishes. The inhouse entertainment bring about an atmosphere of ahh for, just pure pleasure. The roving security officers in and around the compound gave us a sense of peace. More>

For someone who has never experienced a hotel, bar, business of the adult genre I had a great time. The people working there from servers to show entertainers are lovely, friendly and fun. Management was helpful and friendly. Guests interact, friendly. The dancers and singers are top notch could be working Las Vegas, etc. There is a beach, pool and jacuzzi for folks with no clothes and the same if nakedness isn't your thing. Adult sexy entertainment is available. Great experience if you are open minded. More>

Expensive and in STILL in Need of Updating

We have been to Hedo many times over the years through the good times and bad and stopped for a few years, we wanted to give management time to renovate as they promised when they took over, but no luck. We saw a new lobby, new dining decor and a new courtyard with poor wi-fi . We saw a wine bar that costs extra and is not included. The airport transfer is also no longer included. We saw that only about 20 rooms out of over 200 are redone and we dont see any new room renovation going on,, and those few newly updated rooms are very expensive compared to the other rooms. Please keep this next saying in mind and read as many reviews as possible you will find this line in many of them! YOU DONT GO FOR THE ROOMS. I go on vacation for the rooms as an integral part of the entire vacation experience in addition to everything else you want on vacation. I ask fro decent working Air conditioning and decent working plumbing, neither of which i got here. Thats the most ridiiculous statement i have ever heard and you will read over and over right here in a large percentage of reviews, good and bad, here on tripadvisor! . This is one of the more expensive weeks that you can purchase in Negril and they are still suffering from the same old infrastructure problems as the old days. Thats it,,no sense reviewing other aspects of the hotel since i cant get past the oudated rooms and I can find everything that is on offer here PLUS a nice working room at other resorts on the same beach.Have fun but remember YOU DONT GO FOR THE ROOMS! haha i still dont understand that...Dont you want a nice room?
