25th Wedding Anniversary
ath0llsmart, Aberdeen, United Kingdom

This is our 25th wedding anniversary and i thought i would treat the wife for putting up with me for the past 25 years, So i booked a trip for 14 nights at the Hard Rock Hotel in Cancun, This been the first time in Mexico. When we arrived at the hotel we was met with nice hot towels to help refresh us, and then the luggage was gone. Check in was very straight forward with us getting the romantic bands to celebrate our anniversary. The room was of a very high standard with a pool view (this was the first surprise as we had a lagoon room booked). we thought we would have a early night as we had been up for 23 hours traveling, Then i got a knock at the door and there was a bottle of champagne and a cake for us. The next two weeks was amazing with romantic diners, the room getting decorated on the day of our anniversary with rose petals and a nice hot bath with rose petals waiting for us. Now i am diabetic and have a problem with my foot and wear a special shoe to off load the pressure, I had not taken this with me to Mexico as i wanted to enjoy myself as much as i could, But my foot got really uncomfortable and needed to buy a new shoe, I tried to do this but not having much luck as i don't Spanish, Katie came to my rescue and got one deliver to the hotel within 1 hour ( i can't get a service like that back home). Well done and thank you. The food at this hotel is amazing from breakfast to evening meals with snacks in between, I must also mention the lovely lady who does the omelettes in the Market as a bundle of joy in the morning, Always very happy and smiling even when some people are rude to her (going to miss her omelettes for my breakfast). The Zen restaurant is by far the best one there. Staff round the hotel from the pool to the bars to the cleaners are also very hard working and would do almost anything for you. The only down side i had was the fact that the mini bar was not restocked daily, As a diabetic i only drink the Coke light from the mini bar, I had asked for this to only have Coke light and was stocked with that on day 3, Then it was back to everything else.for the rest of the 14 days, Shame really. Also the room maid failed to leave toiletries in the room after day 3. It's a shame that when week one was over it felt like ground hog week as everything was repeated, We saw all the shows in week one so there was nothing in week 2, Overall the was a excellent hotel to stay in, I am returning in 2 years time with my family for a holiday so they can experience the Hard Rock Hotels.

FULL REVIEW - Hard Rock Hotel Cancun

Stayed at the Hard Rock Hotel Cancun during July 4th week as part of a family group of 14. We have visited the Riviera Maya from Tulum up to Cancun over 12 times and have stayed at a variety of places. We booked the Hard Rock Cancun based on a previous stay at the Hard Rock Playa del Carmen, but we wanted to avoid the transportation for such a large group down to Playa. Overall the hotel is good, not great. We booked as part of some VIP package, but surely did not receive any type of VIP/Rock star treatment during our stay. The check-in process was terrible, we waited in the lobby for over 45 minutes for our "special" check-in just to get front desk clerks that were cold and did a poor job in welcoming us to the hotel. As the very first staff one encounters, this was a warning sign of what was to come throughout our week. Restaurants: Ciao - this is the Italian restaurant. Service was excellent, truly a 5-star service experience. Unfortunately, the food service was extremely slow and the food was poor - overcooked and clearly had been sitting underneath a heat lamp for quite some time. Zen - is the Asian-themed restaurant with mix of seating at the Hibachi table or standard tables. This was truly a dining experience and we were treated like royalty. The service was spectacular - we did not have to order appetizers as they brought us a variety of dishes for the table and the food quality was spectacular. We highly recommend; Frida - this is the outdoor Mexican restaurant. I had been looking forward to our dinner based on previous comments from other Trip Advisor reviews, but the experience was terrible. Service, while friendly, was terribly slow and 13 out of 14 orders were incorrect. Having sat there for over an hour, we all decided to take whatever the waitress brought to the table. I had the fajitas that were terribly dry and again, had been sitting under a heat lamp for quite some time. I must note that the restaurant was only 1/3 full; Ipanema - mixed reviews. This is the hotel's Brazilian BBQ steakhouse. The hostess Mariana is terrible and unfriendly. Asking for a reservation for a group of 4 was like asking for a favor, despite the restaurant being less than half full. However, once inside, the wait staff is excellent and are true professionals. The food quality was outstanding and the buffet offered a wide variety of options to satisfy any palate. We liked the food/service so much the first time, we wanted to have it again for our last night. Again, the hostess told us that she would not be able to seat us until 9:45pm, despite the restaurant being less than half full. We had to ask a Concierge member to assist us with finding a dinner reservation anywhere within the hotel because they made it so complicated; The Market - the hotel's buffet restaurant. Sadly, again we faced a clearly unhappy hostess that greeted one in the morning with a healthy portion of attitude. Again, as one of the first employees to start a customer's day, it set a poor tone for the rest of the experience. At one point, one of our children came to our table and pulled up a chair - again, restaurant half full. The hostess told us that we couldn't have him sit there, but offered no alternative. Finally, our friendly waitress came over and slid over a small table to accommodate. Was that so hard? Food quality was good (tacos and other Mexican dishes were spectacular) and a wide variety of options. The breakfast omelet station is fantastic; Pizzeto - the outdoor, wood-fired mini-pie station. Excellent service, fantastic/unique pizza options and you can watch it all happen right before your eyes. Pool - the hotel offers a large pool in the back, large enough for folks who want to watch the entertainment festivities to be close, or for those who want a bit more quiet, to be further away. They also offer a VIP pool/hot tub on the 3rd floor for even more seclusion. Finding chairs was not at all difficult and unattended towels from folks trying to reserve chairs were removed after 30 mins of non-use. The staff was very friendly and would bring over an umbrella or small table to place your drinks; Entertainment - Clearly, the hardest working and most-friendly entertainers in all of Riviera Maya. Tabata, Batman and all of the others filled our days with aqua-robics, games, activities and non-stop fun. Again, we've been to many other hotels and have seen the same tired activities over and over again, but not here. This staff really knows how to get the crowd to participate in the activities and have a ton of fun doing so; Spa - a few members of our group took part in the spa services and they all raved about it. Bars - all of the bars offer top-shelf liquor and the bartenders do a fantastic job. I truly must call out our good friend Julian who made us feel like guests in his home and is a true gentleman. His picture is attached and I encourage you to look for him for excellent service; World Cup - the hotel did an excellent job in hosting the World Cup. They dedicated a banquet room for guests to watch the games and had a buffet and bar setup with waitress service. There is nothing that I can compare the level of excitement in watching Mexico play in the Copa in Mexico. The room was electric and the entertainment staff dressed up in costumes, had face painting for the kids and made it a great time, see pictures. Credits - Honestly, I do not see any benefit to the credit system and think that it's just a way to make you believe that you are getting something, when you are not. For example, a massage in the spa costs $300. You pay 20%, or $60. Well, that's what a one hour massage in Mexico costs, so where is the bargain? Location - the hotel is conveniently located in my favorite part of the Zona Hotelera. Close enough to walk to shops, malls and the bus stop is right outside the main gate. However, you are far enough from the Club Zone where all of the clubs/bars are that you are not disturbed. It is a short walk to Aqua World for all of your water sport activities and a nice walk to La Casa del Habano, Cancun's legit Cuban cigar bar, see my review. Other - Not affiliated with the hotel, there are jet ski rentals, parasailing on the beach behind the hotel. There is a Coco Bongo's representative in the pool area every day to buy your tickets. Security - as it's often a question asked by first-timers to Mexico, the hotel area and the entire Zona Hotelera are extremely safe with security everywhere. The hotel has security guards at the entrances (front and back from the beach), all cars and people entering stop at the front gate before entering the property and, a number of us took very long walks along the strip every morning and never once felt unsafe. Again, we've been coming here for years and have never had an issue. Rooms - we had a wonderful room overlooking the pools and beach. As commented by others, we had this huge tub in the middle of the room that was awkward and, at times, an annoyance. It really does seem out of place. Housekeeping was hit or miss. We had one incident where Housekeeping did not come to clean our room or change towels, despite calling the front desk and speaking with a Housekeeping employee in the hallway outside of our room. Our boy's room had significant air conditioning problems and they woke up 4 nights with no AC. The front desk was notified 5 times, checked it out and said that they needed to order a part - so it was very difficult to sleep in that room with out AC. The hotel should have moved them to another room, but did not offer. Overall, the hotel lacks a lot in terms of staff friendliness and service. The front desk staff and hostesses for dinner reservations should be retrained to act as ambassadors of the hotel and make a guest feel welcome. On the bright side, the entertainment staff is the best in the business, the waiters in the restaurants are very friendly and the bartenders are fantastic. For the price, we would not recommend the Hard Rock and I encourage you to read my review of the Fiesta Americana Condessa for a superior overall experience.

Amazing Vacation!!!!

I have been to the Hard Rock in Punta Cana, which is probably 5 times bigger than this one in Cancun, but we still had lots of fun! The entertainment was non-stop and the activities by the pool and beach area were awesome for all ages!! Room was awesome and the view was breathtaking!! The restaurants were also very good and the ranking based on our experience was: Zen, Market, Ciao, Frida and Ipanema (for being a Brazilian steakhouse we expected better food - meat was too salty). Zen is the BEST restaurant at this Hard Rock for Dinner! The food was amazing both times we went (ordered from the kitchen not hibachi). We had all the appetizers and entrees we ordered pretty much every item from the menu between both times (we are a family of 7). The service was spectacular!!! Please make sure you ask for Santos to be your waiter and you will for sure have the best service ever!! Market is the BEST for breakfast, as far as variety and quality (always fresh). Please make sure you ask for Hector, he works pretty much everyday and he will make sure your table is ready with all the drinks you need!!! He is awesome!!! The only thing we were a bit disappointed was with the seaweed but unfortunately we cannot control the environment.... if you walk a bit towards the resort next door (Secrets) you will find a cleaner beach area!

Just back from a week of all inclusive fun

Just back from a week at the Hard Rock Cancun. I went with a girlfriend for an all inclusive week of rest and relaxation. This was my first time in Cancun. Booked with BA holidays and had a room upgrade and resort credits thrown into our package. Our twin room had the normal double jacuzzi set up in the bedroom. Not very usable really as we tried it once, the water shot out of the jets all over the floor when we turned it on and soaked everything in its range. Would be much better on the balcony in the fresh air rather than steaming up the bedroom. In this very humid climate this is the last thing you need in your air conditioned room. We had a room on the 6th floor overlooking the pool area and out to sea. Great view but very noisy a lot of the time whenever there was a party or event on level 3, the rockstar level. However this is what you expect from hard rock so it didn’t bother us but might bother someone. The All inclusive was amazing. Premium spirits 24x7. In your room the mini bar/fridge is stocked with cans of mixers and beer, and there is a special pull out draw with a full bottle of Bacardi, tequila, vodka and whisky with bar optics to enable you to serve spirit measures in your room. All this and 24 hour room service is included. The quality of the food and drinks was superb. My friend drinks wine. This wasn’t in our fridge so she called reception and within 10 mins they delivered a bottle of white wine, all inclusive, no extra charge. She was in heaven. There is really only one very large pool running along by the beach. There are two swim-up bars, one at each end, and the pool is like a warm bath. One end there is a stage where the entertainment team hang out and run constant games and entertainment for the guests. It’s loud, fun and messy. They have foam parties a couple of times a week. Water aerobics a couple of times each day and regular pool side DJs. The other end of the pool attracts families with kids. There were loads more kids here than we expected so be warned. It’s a very very family friendly place, not like the hard rock in Ibiza last summer. If you want a bit more peace head to the beach. It’s lovely white soft sand, very clean and you can dip in the sea, which is lovely and warm, as you would expect for the Caribbean. Whilst there we saw 3 weddings on the beach, but I’ve been to quite a few Caribbean islands and this was my least favourite location for a wedding as it’s not pretty, private or quiet. There are loads of loungers on the beach and by the pool and they operate a 40 min reservation policy. I.e. if you reserve a sunbed and don’t use it in 40 mins the pool or beach attendants remove your stuff and give the bed to the next guest. This is great at peak times. They have a Rock spa which we used at least 3 times, but it’s really a small waiting room with massage rooms. There are no showers or changing facilities, no hot tubs, steam rooms or relaxation area, so it had the rock spa label but really isn’t up to scratch. The treatments were good though and we used our resort credits to pay for the massages etc. There are 4 amazing restaurants for dinner, and the buffet in the Market. They have Ipanema which is a Brazilian rodizio. Their Mexican restaurant, a tepenyaki restaurant and their Italian. We ate in all during our stay and the quality and service was amazing. One issue is that there is only one bar in the hotel, and in the evening with so many families it’s packed and feels like a crèche. They really need an adult only bar somewhere in the resort. They have the space but just aren’t using it at night. You can go to the pool bar outside which is quieter but again there can be kids there. This isn’t what we wanted for our holiday. On our last night they held a Mexican fiesta in the front of the hotel which was superb. They set up loads of tables and food stands and had a Mariachi band playing. It was excellent and the food delicious. One great night in their theatre was the Michael Jackson tribute band. This is highly recommended. All in all this is a great resort, we loved it but probably won’t come back as there are too many kids and nowhere for adults only. We love Hard Rock and will try another of their hotels in a different location next time.

Excellent place to stay!

This was a perfect place for our family vacation, the seven of us had a wonderful time. The food and drinks were delicious, good variety, staff was extremely friendly and accommodating. Great planned activities/entertainment daily. Defiantly, will recommend this place to our friends and family.
