Grotto Bay off season
KATHY M.
Apr 16 2019
We arrived at the end of the off season. Staff was always pleasant and very helpful. Grounds were well kept. Property is set on a hill so be ready to hike. They do have carts and small vans that will come and get you if needed. Pool was small, but due to the terrain was appropriate. Grotto and caves on site were amazing. Views overlooking the bay were also amazing. There bus system is a little tricky on the island, but residents are very helpful, so just ask. The forts and other historical sites are a must see. Best shopping is down at the DockYard, but not cheap. Overall a great experience. Choose the All Inclusive option as worth it.

Airline created a rough start that turned into a great vacation

American Airlines created some issues which caused a delayed and very stressful start to our vacation but the staff at Grotto Bay made it all good. By the time we arrived in Bermuda 8 hours late because American Airlines had no forethought to have a new crew ready after a weather delay pushed the regular crew outside the FAA work time regulations the room we wanted was not available (king bed over 2 doubles). The staff at the Grotto Bay put us in a room one step down from what we paid for but it was a king bed and moved us into our proper room with the king bed the next day. This trip was for my 50th birthday and the Grotto Bay went the extra mile in working with my wife to make the trip awesome. We will definitely be going back!

I was so disappointed in my stay at Grotto Bay. We were in building 8 so had a hike up the hill to get to the room. Then to go to lunch, the pool or what is referred to as the beach you had to go down several levels of steps. I was glad I had not taken my disabled mother with me as she would not have been able to walk to the room or the pool. I was also disappoint in the fact that tips are included in the all inclusive package but they have you sign a receipt at every meal that has a line for additional gratuity. There was a comedian one night and gombay dancers for five minutes another evening. That was the extent of the entertainment. I had so much more fun in Aruba

From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding. Grotto Bay Beach Resort's staff are attentive, friendly and very knowledgable. The property is beautiful. Our room was completely refurbished with Mahogany furniture, an excellent mattress, fine linens and a bathroom finished with Travertine tile. The view from our room was amazing - gorgeous Grotto Bay. We did not purchase the all inclusive plan. Instead, we ate at both the hotel's restaurants and local restaurants. The breakfast buffet, at Grotto Bay, was large and had multiple delicious entrees. Lunch was at the poolside grill and served sandwiches/salads. Dinner was in one of the formal dining rooms. In St. George(a short bus ride from the hotel), we'd highly recommend Temptations Bakery and the CV Cafe for breakfast. In Hamilton, Flannigans and Dockside have waterfront views and excellent pub style food. To get around, we purchased 7 day passes for both the bus and ferries. We traveled the entire island by public transportation, visiting historical sites, beaches and the main cities. For $56 USD, it was very inexpensive. Bermuda is a clean, beautiful, friendly island. It definitely ranks as one of the best places that we visited.

Grotto Bay is such a wonderful place and we have stayed there many times and will continue to return there in the future. They were so accomodating to all of our needs. The facility is beautiful and located near the airport with a bus-stop out front.

My family was extremely pleased with our stay at Grotto Bay. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Bermuda. The facilities were spotless, the service and food were great, and the pool and beach were very nice. The bus and ferry pass that was included with the package came in very handy. We are already talking about going back to Grotto Bay next year. All of the staff were exceptionally friendly. We found the same friendliness and cleanliness throughout Bermuda.

We loved the location of the resort which is close to the airport. We never heard the planes. We enjoyed everything about the resort. We did the all inclusive which we would recommend. This includes 3 meals/day, all drinks, transportation ( bus or ferry) and use of the non motorized sports( kayaks and snorkeling equipment). Every staff member was friendly and accommodating. There was also a nice mix of guests.

It was my first time visiting Grotto Bay, in fact visiting Bermuda. The location is ideal and quite stunning. The hotel was renovated over 10 years ago and it shows. It could use another update. My bathroom had cracks in the tub and every morning we found large bugs dead on the floor. The front desk staff are short tempered and not every helpful. They seem like you are bothering them when asking a question. My main reasons I would consider coming back is Liviu, our waiter. He’s lively and hilarious. You can see he takes pride in his job and the guests love him for it. He remembers all the guest names and has a nickname for them all. He makes everyone smile when he just walks in the room. The other reason and it’s a selfish one is the wonderful “ Omelet” guy. He’s kind and patient. He makes these wonderful omelettes that we have come to enjoy each morning. It’s the highlight of the day each morning.

Missing Items Spoiled an Otherwise Good Trip

We stayed at Grotto Bay for five nights. Overall, we enjoyed the experience. The weather was nice, the food was good, and the staff was friendly. Unfortunately, during my stay, and upon returning home, we realized that several articles of my daughter’s clothing and other small items were missing. First it was a jean jacket that we thought we might have left (but still cannot find), a pair of jean shorts, a toy doll, and various other items. We scoured the room during our stay and before leaving and could not find the items, nor were they left at home. This experience has soured me on the otherwise lovely time we had at the resort. I do not appreciate my property being taken from me, no matter what the situation. Thankfully, we made use of the safe while we were there, but we shouldn’t be expected to lock up our clothing.

Nice room , great heated pool and beach . Complimentary Afternoon tea and snacks a nice touch . Bus stop right in front of resort makes for easy traveling to Hamilton, or St Georges. Swizzle Inn walking distance away is worth a try .

If you want premiere service, great food, a comfortable, well-appointed room and some of the friendliest people in Bermuda, please stay at Grotto Bay. From Stephen at the Bell desk who met us, to the front desk, to Charmaine and the team at the Concierge desk... these are some of the most gracious and accommodating hotel staff I've ever met. Of specific note, the restaurant staff, especially the head chef, and Raj, accommodated my wife's seafood allergy in superior fashion. We WILL stay with Grotto Bay again...

Return Trip Far Less Impressive
Ken N,
Tue Apr 23 05:23:13 EDT 2019
My wife and I visited Grotto Bay in 2014 for a romantic getaway and absolutely loved it. The resort left such an impression that when my parents wanted to visit the island in April 2019, we immediately recommended Grotto Bay! All I can say is the resort was a solid "5" in 2014 and unfortunately in 2019 I consider it a solid "3". First the good stuff; The food is still impressive and most of the staff were extremely friendly, helpful and attentive. Kudos specifically to the staff in the dining rooms and pool area who managed huge crowds with a personal touch as they get to know each guest. The scenery is breathtaking and the location is quiet and perfect for launching day trips to the many things to do on the Island. Our bad experience was isolated to front desk staff who were rude, inattentive and unwilling to make accommodations for my mom who has a disability. This was resolved with the General Manager, who speedily corrected the issues, but first impressions are everything and that first impression was very bad. The "all inclusive" has been limited on both menu and drink selection from 5 years ago; the inside bar has limited operating hours and neither the inside or pool bar has the local "Dockyard" beer. The only reason this is even slightly important is because the resort is isolated and shopping for groceries takes time and planning, as you have to take a bus, or cab to the nearest store 10 minutes away. The rooms have been updated and are aesthetically appealing, but the bed frames are were extremely noisy even with slight movement; The majority of the grounds are well maintained, but there were a few signs of neglect inside and outside the rooms we stayed in (door blinds not working, rotting outside storage closet doors directly across from the room door, discarded kayaks in the tall grass between the buildings and the bay (these may seem a bit trivial, but again first impressions are important). If I go back to Bermuda, I would consider Grotto Bay again, but would likely look for other options as well.
