Airline created a rough start that turned into a great vacation
DAVID L.
Oct 27 2018
American Airlines created some issues which caused a delayed and very stressful start to our vacation but the staff at Grotto Bay made it all good. By the time we arrived in Bermuda 8 hours late because American Airlines had no forethought to have a new crew ready after a weather delay pushed the regular crew outside the FAA work time regulations the room we wanted was not available (king bed over 2 doubles). The staff at the Grotto Bay put us in a room one step down from what we paid for but it was a king bed and moved us into our proper room with the king bed the next day. This trip was for my 50th birthday and the Grotto Bay went the extra mile in working with my wife to make the trip awesome. We will definitely be going back!

I was so disappointed in my stay at Grotto Bay. We were in building 8 so had a hike up the hill to get to the room. Then to go to lunch, the pool or what is referred to as the beach you had to go down several levels of steps. I was glad I had not taken my disabled mother with me as she would not have been able to walk to the room or the pool. I was also disappoint in the fact that tips are included in the all inclusive package but they have you sign a receipt at every meal that has a line for additional gratuity. There was a comedian one night and gombay dancers for five minutes another evening. That was the extent of the entertainment. I had so much more fun in Aruba

From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding. Grotto Bay Beach Resort's staff are attentive, friendly and very knowledgable. The property is beautiful. Our room was completely refurbished with Mahogany furniture, an excellent mattress, fine linens and a bathroom finished with Travertine tile. The view from our room was amazing - gorgeous Grotto Bay. We did not purchase the all inclusive plan. Instead, we ate at both the hotel's restaurants and local restaurants. The breakfast buffet, at Grotto Bay, was large and had multiple delicious entrees. Lunch was at the poolside grill and served sandwiches/salads. Dinner was in one of the formal dining rooms. In St. George(a short bus ride from the hotel), we'd highly recommend Temptations Bakery and the CV Cafe for breakfast. In Hamilton, Flannigans and Dockside have waterfront views and excellent pub style food. To get around, we purchased 7 day passes for both the bus and ferries. We traveled the entire island by public transportation, visiting historical sites, beaches and the main cities. For $56 USD, it was very inexpensive. Bermuda is a clean, beautiful, friendly island. It definitely ranks as one of the best places that we visited.

Grotto Bay is such a wonderful place and we have stayed there many times and will continue to return there in the future. They were so accomodating to all of our needs. The facility is beautiful and located near the airport with a bus-stop out front.

My family was extremely pleased with our stay at Grotto Bay. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Bermuda. The facilities were spotless, the service and food were great, and the pool and beach were very nice. The bus and ferry pass that was included with the package came in very handy. We are already talking about going back to Grotto Bay next year. All of the staff were exceptionally friendly. We found the same friendliness and cleanliness throughout Bermuda.

We loved the location of the resort which is close to the airport. We never heard the planes. We enjoyed everything about the resort. We did the all inclusive which we would recommend. This includes 3 meals/day, all drinks, transportation ( bus or ferry) and use of the non motorized sports( kayaks and snorkeling equipment). Every staff member was friendly and accommodating. There was also a nice mix of guests.

Okay Stay

Room was comfortable, small refrigerator, no microwave. Dining at the resort was very expensive and the food was just average. The wifi worked well about 50% of the time we tried to watch a movie on Netflix but kept losing connection. It was easy to take the bus to various areas of the island. There's a restaurant called Swizzle Inn within walking distance, they sell American style food, there's also a Jamaican restaurant about 1/2 mile away the prices and food is better than the resort's. We were there for 5 days in March, we didn't go to the beach because it was chilly and windy every day, temperatures in the 50's. I didn't realize that it gets that cold in Bermuda. I had to go out and purchase a jacket. My husband tried to take a shower one morning and there was no water, hours later when the water started running, it was the color of rust for the first few minutes. I wouldn't stay there again.

Amazing Honeymoon Spot

My husband and I justuat returned from our honeymoon at the Grotto and we would go back in a heartbeat. With many things to do at the resort, there was always something for everyone. We did ocean kayaking, swimming and exploring the cave on the property and near by, swimming in the bay and the pool and relaxing in the hot tub. There are also 2 bus stops at the hotel which is very convenient! One bus goes to St George and the other goes to Hamilton. All of this wouldnt matter if the staff wasn't as amazing and courteous as they were. From the front door until we left we encountered the kindest and most helpful staff. They really got to know us as our stay went on. Winston at the bar was the best. Everyone everyday would ask how our last day was and actually seemed interested. Take me back to Grotto Bay !

Stayed there for two nights this month and got a ocean view room with balcony, room was spacious with one king bed. Everything was great, didn’t talk to staff much so I couldn’t stay if they were attentive or not. Didn’t try the breakfast either, but enjoyed my stay overall. Went to check out the pool area, the cathedral cave was pretty cool. Are that swizzle inn which wasn’t bad either, will definitively stay there again next time in Bermuda. But will see how I can go explore Hamilton, probably a short bus ride.

We had a wonderful time at Grotto Bay. The property is gorgeous and the resort is somewhat small which we like. The staff was wonderful, we did have a problem with noise in the next room and they upgraded us to a more private room. We loved the small touches like tea everyday at 3:30. We really like the fact that it was so close to the airport and with the bus stop in right in front of the resort you can get anywhere on the island in no time. We did not do the all inclusive so that we could experience all the island had to offer and feel we made the right decision for us. I would highly recommend this place for it's convenience and location.

A charming hotel, clean rooms and mostly quiet. The staff was wonderful. Everyone I interacted with from front desk to wait staff and housekeeping was lovely. They recommended restaurants and helped me understand the bus and ferrys. DO take the bus!! Taxi's are so expensive and the bus is a fraction of the cost and so so easy to navigate. While close to the airport (Less than 5 minutes/$8 cab - you can see the airport from the beach) it means you are VERY far from Hamilton and the pink sand beaches. Close to St. Georges - which was good for dinner. My only critique is that I could very often hear the loud noisy girls staying on the floor above me. Blaring music and stomping around - I almost complained about them on multiple occasions. Definitely disruptive.
