Disappointed

I was so disappointed in my stay at Grotto Bay. We were in building 8 so had a hike up the hill to get to the room. Then to go to lunch, the pool or what is referred to as the beach you had to go down several levels of steps. I was glad I had not taken my disabled mother with me as she would not have been able to walk to the room or the pool. I was also disappoint in the fact that tips are included in the all inclusive package but they have you sign a receipt at every meal that has a line for additional gratuity. There was a comedian one night and gombay dancers for five minutes another evening. That was the extent of the entertainment. I had so much more fun in Aruba

From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding. Grotto Bay Beach Resort's staff are attentive, friendly and very knowledgable. The property is beautiful. Our room was completely refurbished with Mahogany furniture, an excellent mattress, fine linens and a bathroom finished with Travertine tile. The view from our room was amazing - gorgeous Grotto Bay. We did not purchase the all inclusive plan. Instead, we ate at both the hotel's restaurants and local restaurants. The breakfast buffet, at Grotto Bay, was large and had multiple delicious entrees. Lunch was at the poolside grill and served sandwiches/salads. Dinner was in one of the formal dining rooms. In St. George(a short bus ride from the hotel), we'd highly recommend Temptations Bakery and the CV Cafe for breakfast. In Hamilton, Flannigans and Dockside have waterfront views and excellent pub style food. To get around, we purchased 7 day passes for both the bus and ferries. We traveled the entire island by public transportation, visiting historical sites, beaches and the main cities. For $56 USD, it was very inexpensive. Bermuda is a clean, beautiful, friendly island. It definitely ranks as one of the best places that we visited.

My family was extremely pleased with our stay at Grotto Bay. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Bermuda. The facilities were spotless, the service and food were great, and the pool and beach were very nice. The bus and ferry pass that was included with the package came in very handy. We are already talking about going back to Grotto Bay next year. All of the staff were exceptionally friendly. We found the same friendliness and cleanliness throughout Bermuda.

We loved the location of the resort which is close to the airport. We never heard the planes. We enjoyed everything about the resort. We did the all inclusive which we would recommend. This includes 3 meals/day, all drinks, transportation ( bus or ferry) and use of the non motorized sports( kayaks and snorkeling equipment). Every staff member was friendly and accommodating. There was also a nice mix of guests.

Bermuda is not the place to go in March, the weather was cold & rainy all week temps in low 60's with gale force winds, tried the pool once but too cold to enjoy, the jacuzzi was the highlight of the resort (because in was hot) but you froze getting to it & getting out of it. If not for the local city bus we would have nothing to do,did a lot of sightseeing because of the weather. I would not go back to Bermuda or this hotel. Also, the Apple rep was not existant, she met us at the airport that's all didn't see or hear from her for the rest of the week if I didn't check with the hotel desk,I wouldn't have known when we should be ready for pick-up for return trip.

Not great but not all bad.

Pros: The property's located 10 mins from the airport. Get the All inclusive package, its not bad but be aware there is only 1 restaurant for lunch and 2 restaurants for dinner and a breakfast buffet. There is a kayaking, paddle boarding and snorkeling on site. The waters are very calm, there is also a pool and the best part, the Cathedral Cave to go swimming in. The view from our balcony of the ocean is beautiful. Cons: Tired rooms, from afar the pictures of the rooms look great, but our room tiles were cracked everywhere! The bed squeaked every time you move. (think squeaky toy in dog's mouth!) You could FEEL the springs in the mattress! that's how old it was. Water pressure is non existent in the shower. the Natural Spa Massage and the RIP OFF While the massage in the cave was great the staff FAILED to mentioned that a "Gratuity FEE" will be added to your BILL in the hotel!! When I asked if we had to give gratuity (bc I live in NYC and its standard) the spa staff fails to mention it will be tacked on and allows us to TIP them 20%. Imagine my outrage upon checking out, when long and behold there is a gratuity fee on my bill! AND the front desk is NOT even remorseful, stating "oh there's nothing we can do about that!" Will absolutely NOT be returning.

Best Resort Facility on Bermuda . . . Must elect "All Inclusive."

My letter to JP Marens: "This is the second consecutive year that my wife and I have stayed at Grotto Bay. The experience this year, as it was last year, was outstanding. We thoroughly enjoy the staff and make it a point to get to know them by name. Accolades to Ezra and Eugene at the door! If I recall Wendell was also at the door and just a great resource. Front desk was wonderful as are ALL the staff, including Alison as a relatively new concierge. Thoroughly enjoyed the presentation by Tim Rogers. You would be surprised at the number of people who are not aware of the excellent “all inclusive” plan. And, Grotto Bay is the ONLY resort on the island that offers such a plan. That, in itself, will continue to bring us back. It is our intent to return every year if possible in May and we will stay exclusively at Grotto Bay. Thanks again for everything and please give your wonderful staff accolades!" Now an explanation of the "All Inclusive" package. First, knowing the cost is essential. For 4 days and 3 nights, we paid about $680.00, TOTAL. That is for TWO people and with the amenities included it is well worth it. Why? ALL meals are included including the opportunities to participate in two weekly barbecues. The value on those is $60 per person. Under the plan, two alcoholic beverages are available per day for each person. A bus pass is provided for each person which includes ferry service. One ride on the bus system retails at $20 per person and ferry service costs the same. So, here are some average daily costs at a retail value: two people using the bus ($40), two people using the ferry ($40), two at buffet breakfast ($40), two at lunch ($35.00), two for barbecue night ($120). Equipment for water sports is available, as well, as part of the plan. Now let's calculate a rough daily sum based on the numbers I have provided. That's $350 per day times three days equals $1050." Thus, is it worth it? Just look at the numbers!

All-inclusive package

All-inclusive resorts are not my type of holiday but I was part of a big group for a business travel trip and was on all-inclusive package. The room was spacious and had all the amenities I needed and a small balcony with views of the ocean. The bed big and very comfortable. The bathroom was decent size - it needed some modernising but everything was working and it was clean. The food was very good but I felt it was leaning too much on American style: heavy on burgers and the like (perhaps because a big chunk of their clientele is from the US?). The choices for vegetarians are quite limited still you won't go hungry and the portions are US-size. The staff was always polite and friendly. The beach is small but beautiful and there is a pool nearby. the season hadn't started when we were there so most of the facilities were not available so cannot comment on this point. The hotel is very close to the airport (in fact you can see it from the resort) but you don't hear any noises at all. Be sure you walk around the resort and outside - there are many caves and small beaches worth seeing.

Service was excellent and facility was clean

Stayed in the St. David's bldg. Room was clean and good sized. The property has lots and lots of stairs so not suggested for those who have trouble walking (unless closer to "main house"). Everyone from the bellman (upon arrival and our departure) and Patricia who registered us in and the 2 or 3 concierge staff and housekeeping staff were friendly and attentive. We recommend the all inclusive package with the huge selections and many options of foods and drinks. The daily breakfast and special buffets were something not to miss and the Surf and Turf buffet on Thursday down at the beach was OVER THE TOP! Agree with the convenience of the bus transportation (at the driveway entrance) and the frequency and various routes to take to cruise around and see the island (this was included in the all inclusive package) from The Dockyard to downtown Hamilton to St. George's. The BEST part of the week (including the beach, sand, water and weather) were the wait staff...Kudo's Grotto Bay for your amazing servers and restaurant team...Liviu always went above and beyond had a smile and joke to share and made a point to wave or say hi when he saw us. Your head waiter/Maitre d, Christian and Danny and Cosin were also very attentive and very friendly. We had a wonderful vacation and would definitely come back.

Thank you Grotto Bay!

We have just returned to Canada after a wonderful week at Grotto Bay. We really appreciated the beautiful setting and the friendly staff. I have to agree with the previous writer - Liviu was so friendly and even waved from across the room when he was not our server, making us feel welcome. The resort is so centrally located for daily outings (we especially enjoyed a quick bus trip to St. Georges for a bit of shopping followed by a dip at the little beach at Tobacco Bay - a short but "uphill" walk from downtown, but worth it) and time by the beach or pool is so enjoyable. I learned the pool is available 24-7 which is great (I planned a late-night dip, but didn't get there!) Our room in the "Smith" building was in a great location with a stunning view. We enjoyed a lovely variety of meals in our "all-inclusive" package with the highlight being the lamb dishes (not a seafood person). I also highly recommend the soups. All in all a great trip, and we look forward to our return. Thanks, all!
