Disappointed

I was so disappointed in my stay at Grotto Bay. We were in building 8 so had a hike up the hill to get to the room. Then to go to lunch, the pool or what is referred to as the beach you had to go down several levels of steps. I was glad I had not taken my disabled mother with me as she would not have been able to walk to the room or the pool. I was also disappoint in the fact that tips are included in the all inclusive package but they have you sign a receipt at every meal that has a line for additional gratuity. There was a comedian one night and gombay dancers for five minutes another evening. That was the extent of the entertainment. I had so much more fun in Aruba

From the moment we arrived, the service was outstanding. Grotto Bay Beach Resort's staff are attentive, friendly and very knowledgable. The property is beautiful. Our room was completely refurbished with Mahogany furniture, an excellent mattress, fine linens and a bathroom finished with Travertine tile. The view from our room was amazing - gorgeous Grotto Bay. We did not purchase the all inclusive plan. Instead, we ate at both the hotel's restaurants and local restaurants. The breakfast buffet, at Grotto Bay, was large and had multiple delicious entrees. Lunch was at the poolside grill and served sandwiches/salads. Dinner was in one of the formal dining rooms. In St. George(a short bus ride from the hotel), we'd highly recommend Temptations Bakery and the CV Cafe for breakfast. In Hamilton, Flannigans and Dockside have waterfront views and excellent pub style food. To get around, we purchased 7 day passes for both the bus and ferries. We traveled the entire island by public transportation, visiting historical sites, beaches and the main cities. For $56 USD, it was very inexpensive. Bermuda is a clean, beautiful, friendly island. It definitely ranks as one of the best places that we visited.

My family was extremely pleased with our stay at Grotto Bay. We thoroughly enjoyed our visit to Bermuda. The facilities were spotless, the service and food were great, and the pool and beach were very nice. The bus and ferry pass that was included with the package came in very handy. We are already talking about going back to Grotto Bay next year. All of the staff were exceptionally friendly. We found the same friendliness and cleanliness throughout Bermuda.

We loved the location of the resort which is close to the airport. We never heard the planes. We enjoyed everything about the resort. We did the all inclusive which we would recommend. This includes 3 meals/day, all drinks, transportation ( bus or ferry) and use of the non motorized sports( kayaks and snorkeling equipment). Every staff member was friendly and accommodating. There was also a nice mix of guests.

Bermuda is not the place to go in March, the weather was cold & rainy all week temps in low 60's with gale force winds, tried the pool once but too cold to enjoy, the jacuzzi was the highlight of the resort (because in was hot) but you froze getting to it & getting out of it. If not for the local city bus we would have nothing to do,did a lot of sightseeing because of the weather. I would not go back to Bermuda or this hotel. Also, the Apple rep was not existant, she met us at the airport that's all didn't see or hear from her for the rest of the week if I didn't check with the hotel desk,I wouldn't have known when we should be ready for pick-up for return trip.

How brilliant to get off a long flight and be at your hotel in just a few minutes. The taxi fare was $15 on arrival and $10 when going. Not sure why! The hotel makes no secret of the fact that it is on many levels interconnected by steep paths and steps. My knee was in trouble by the end of my stay but this is not the hotel's fault as I had sustained a knee injury before my arrival. The garage next door sells Tylenol! I was upgraded to an ocean front room from an ocean view room on arrival and although I can see from other photographs it was not one that had been upgraded, I was extremely pleased with the room. It was a good size with a king size comfy bed. The safe has an old-fashioned key rather than a code. It amuses me to read in previous reviews by US citizens that the fridge is mini or small. That is the same fridge size most Brits will have I can assure you! The bathroom was clean and functional and the air con very efficient. Hanging space is limited mind. I had no issues with the Wi-Fi around the resort. Very quick I thought. As a female solo traveller personal safety is very important to me and I generally felt safe in the resort. There was one evening when walking back to my room near the tennis courts it seemed very dark (there may have been a bulb out) and I would suggest that taking a small torch with you is a good idea. The one issue I did have and I raised it directly with management as I said I would be mentioning it in my review, is the design of the room doors. They have a glass panel with integral venetian blind which can be opened or shut by moving a magnet on the inside of the door. Even when you think you’ve closed the blind, if there is any light in the room at all, you can still see in to the room from outside through the small eyelets the cord runs through. There is also a gap at the bottom. I got around this by keeping my bathroom door open at all times when in the room. This last tip also blocks the very bright light you get in the room overnight by the lights on the access porches. Housekeeping also seemed to have a directive to fully open this venetian blind when servicing the room. Sorry but I don’t really want someone walking past to easily see what items or purchases I may have placed on my chest of drawers during the day. The balcony has lovely views, in my case of the bay and L F Wade airport which as an aviation enthusiast was great for me. Be assured that there are no issues with aircraft noise. I was very pleased with the all-inclusive package. I enjoyed the breakfasts, the lunches and the dinners in both the Palm Court and Hibiscus. The food was varied and of good quality apart from one meal in Hibiscus which was inedible but was immediately removed and replaced with a delicious replacement. Loves all the drinks and cocktails. Again a huge variety, I have read previous comments about staff. Everyone I met was delightful and made me feel special. No issues at all- in fact they could not have been more helpful. On my last day I was fortunate to get a late checkout and I came back to find the loveliest note hoping I’d enjoyed my stay and wishing me a pleasant flight. I have no idea who left this note but I was very touched. I think this is what sums up the lovely people of Bermuda so thank you.

Came here for our honeymoon and it was the best choice we made! We had the most beautiful view from our room. The room was super clean. The housekeeping were so so friendly. The wait staff and bartenders were AMAZING!! If you eat you must sit in Livius section. Bartenders terry and keyonne were fabulous. And the pink sand drink maker! Victor and David as well such friendly friendly men! The best staff ever. The menu selections were wonderful! The breakfast buffet was a dream! Food was always hot and delicious!! The only thing I would say that needs improvement is the front desk staff. A few were ok but some were cold or clueless. Other than that I would stay here over and over and over again. The drinks were unreal. The towel room was neat. The caves were extraordinary. The jacuzzi was fantastic. The heated pool, the clear blue water. The all inclusive is a must. You def should add that to your stay. I already miss it here. I can't wait to go back. The wait staff and bartenders need medals!! Such a job well done. Can't wait to go to grotto heaven!!! Also the men that helped us to our room were perfect! They took our luggage to our room just a wonderful and lovely honeymoon.

Wish your all inclusive was a very less in price, me and my husband do not eat or drink 228 per day. Your beach area needs to be rake, which on the days we were by the beach I had to keep up garbage from the area. It also goes into the ocean if not cleaned up. The beach is beautiful.

We stayed here from a Saturday through Wednesday. Beautiful views, they put us on the top/third floor so we didn't hear anybody else around us. The staff is super friendly and helpful. The Bermudians all around the island everywhere we went were very friendly and helpful. Everyone speaks English and considering it was just 2-3 girls exploring the island, we felt safe at all times. Would definitely recommend this resort. Bus pass is cheaper than taxis which they sell at front desk. Front desk also exchanges American money for Bermuda money and vise versa at exact rate which currently is 1:1.
