Grand Wailea is an absolutely gorgeous resort with expansive grounds, lush gardens, numerous waterfalls, fountains, koi ponds, and pools. It also happens to share the number one beach in Maui, Wailea Beach, with the Four Seasons next door. From the moment you arrive, you will be impressed (the pictures online don't really do it justice). Once you step out of your car, you'll be warmly greeted with a lei and led to the check in desk where there's complimentary guava juice and ice water. The gym complimentary green tea and water. The resort boasts a lazy river, the world's only water elevator, a swim up bar, at least three hot tubs, a number of pools attached by small slides, and two huge speed slides. In addition, Grand Wailea is also home to Spa Grande, one of the most impressive (and most expensive) spas in Hawaii. The rooms are clean and decent, and most have at least a partial ocean view. Each room has its own patio, perfect for enjoying the beautiful views. However, the age of the resort does show, especially in the bathroom where there's a bit of grout between the tiles. Don't let this small detail deter you from staying here; it truly is a first class resort. My biggest gripes with Grand Wailea are its overpriced, lackluster restaurants and the mandatory $30/night valet parking. To me, it's necessary to rent a car to truly experience Maui, so it feels like they're underhandedly charging you more on top of your room charge. Tips: If you're planning on drinking a bit at the resort, grab one of the tiki/pineapple cups for $22.00. They are 22oz vs your standard 16oz plastic cup. Refills cost as much as a 16oz cup ($15) so you get more drink for your buck plus you get a cute souvenir cup to bring home. Come in early to mid May so you can avoid the crazy Summer rush while still enjoying gorgeous weather and low off season prices. No line at the slides and you don't need to fight for pool chairs. Wee! Wear your swimsuit if you're going to dine outside of Bistro Molokini. You can jump in the hot tub of the adult pool while you wait for your food. Double wee! Go to Spa Grande and take advantage of the Hawaiian Airlines Hana Hou magazine deal. $298 gets you an hour of the terme baths, a mango honey scrub, a 50 minute couples massage, and two $25 certificates to Bistro Molokini. Triple wee!
