Staying at the Grand Wailea
KATHERINE G.
Sep 29 2014
The Grand Wailea is a beautiful resort. The staff was friendly. We arrived before 4 so they partially checked us in and gave us a room to change in which was an empty hotel room. This was a great convenience because we were able to take our suitcases there and change for the pool. It would have been nice if it would have been vacuumed first. The floor was covered with debris. We were later called by the front desk that our room was ready and had to wait in another long line to get our key. It was Saturday so there were a lot of arrivals. Some additional check in staff to make the lines go faster would have been nice. The grounds were beautiful including the pool area but it was packed with people. It seemed the pool deck is too small to accommodate the number of guests. There are many cabanas available but they charge as much as a night in the resort so most went unused. The food at the resort was very good but somewhat overpriced. Lunch for one at the bistro was $40. The daily parking charge seemed excessive to the resort fee. Great location in Wailea. Snorkeling right on property was great. Nice walking path along the beach to other resorts and Wailea shops.

food choice was very limited and extremely expensive. Beach umbrella had to booked, had a loooong queue. Xbox games for teenagers were limited and parents hv to be present even for 10 year olds. Club kids had to paid for you have to pay for every single thing after having spent a bunch on the hotel itself

This is a great place for families. On the other hand it was a celebration for our 25th Wedding anniversary. We did not appreciate the amount of children that were there. Beach space was limited so we had to be at the beach at 7am to get a seat on the beach.

We had a magical week at the resort. It was a true vacation for us-we went there to rest and this resort was the place to do it. Yoga on the beach every morning, massages were great and the pools were amazing. We paid a bit extra for the breakfast package, which was well worth it-the food was really good and a large variety.

Love the resort and pacific dream photography!!

The Grand Wailea grounds are beautiful!! Everyone is so kind and helpful! I want to highly recommend Pacific Dream Photography. Everyone should take advantage of the complimentary session! We did the sunset session with Ana and the photos were unbelievable!! So. Stunning. Everyone at Pacific dream photography is so professional and nice! Very impressed.

Lackluster Honeymoon stay

We came here over Thanksgiving break to celebrate our recent nuptials. We chose this resort b/c of all the hype about this place, but the only great thing about it is the facade. We arrived and were given leis and upon checkin no one even acknowledged it was our honeymoon. We checked into our room after getting lost since the front desk gave poor directions on the location of the elevators. We had rolling bags and thought it was be easy to roll up to our room. They failed to inform us where the handicap walkways were and we had to lug our bags up flights of stairs. Super annoying after a long journey from CA. The room was large and had a nice view however the rooms are in need of attention. The hooks in the bathrooms were practically falling off the wall. Tried to hang up my robe and the hook almost came off the wall. We got ready for dinner and tried to take a shower. The shower hardware was falling apart. Possibly bc most people assume you turn the knob instead of pulling it out. Regardless for over $600 a night at this place you would expect this type of state in a motel 6 or best western. Not a Waldorf resort. We decided to have dinner at the Fairmont and ask for a taxi. The valet informs us the hotel has a car service that again the front desk forgot to inform us that is included in our resort fee. Things that maybe should have been reviewed when we checked in. Day two we head to the pool area and it seems everyone has SAVED seats and there are few and far between lounge chairs. I can’t imagine ALL the chairs to be occupied. ::insert eye roll:: giving up on chairs we went to the towel stand. To our surprise the ONLY person that congratulated us on our honeymoon was a nice lady at the towel stand. So sad really. This hotel is a far cry from Ritz Carlton, Montage and Four Seasons. The water elevator and slide were fun, but the pools were full of kids running around. The adult pool is less than appealing as well. The only plus side was the beautiful greenery and flowers on the grounds and the proximity to the Wailea shops. We enjoyed the Whaler’s market poke bowls and Leppert’s ice cream for lunch. Upon checkout the front desk didn’t even bother to ask about our stay. I would have told them what I said here, but customer service is not priority at this hotel. We checked into the Andaz on DAY 4 and wished we had spent our entire stay there. The service from the staff was what we were yearning for the whole honeymoon. They clearly explained all amenities and resort features, and their 3 level infinity pools was to die for. If you’re coming to Maui on a honeymoon avoid the Grand Wailea and head to the Andaz. The Wailea would be great if we were on a family vacation, NOT a romantic getaway.

Beautiful Hotel with Service Lacking

The Grand Wailea can't be beat for beauty and location, however, the service we received was below my expectations. The grounds are magnificent, our room was a bit "tired" and the service was just fair. We encountered problems with front desk service, housekeeping, slow valet and terrible wifi. If you don't require any of these your stay should be just fine. Aloha

This is my second time to stay at this hotel, and I had a great stay. I will definitely return next time I am in Maui. The room did need a little maintenance but the other areas of the hotel were perfect. In my opinion there isn't any grounds or pool as wonderful as this.
