Just beautiful! A five star resort! The grounds, gardens and pools are beautiful. We are Hilton gold and were upgraded to an ocean view room. The room was nicely appointed, clean with a balcony. We were given a $30 in room credit in lieu of free breakfast. Hilton hotels usually comp breakfast for gold, but it has been my experience that Hilton resorts do not. The credit provided for a lite breakfast on the balcony which was wonderful. We made coffee & tea free in the room. There was also a small fridge in the room for snacks and drinks we bought. Also, a room safe. We also had lunch at Bistro Molokini and dinner at Humuhumunuku. Also, the lobby bar was very nice with live music in the evening. Overall, the stay was excellent!

A lot of Pros but also a few Cons

We just came back from a 4 night stay at this property and there's a lot of both Pros and Cons that I wanted to share here. We booked the standard garden view room for all 4 nights. What we liked: - As a Diamond member I was offered a free upgrade to a Deluxe Garden View Room or a $50/night upgrade to a Deluxe Ocean View room which was a no brainier, as they set us up at the top floor of one of the tower. The view was amazing. - The garden, river and landscaping in general are a blast. You can spend hours easily just walking around the resort and admire the plants, birds and fish. - The pools are really cool and they have a separate massive pool with 2 hot tubs for adults only. - The beach is super nice and not crowded and it does offer some high quality snorkeling on both sides in the rocky areas. - The breakfasts ordered through room-service are really good ... but ... What I literally hated: - It feels like they are trying to rip every penny out of you at this hotel, even if the prices you pay for everything, including the room / resort / parking fee are super high, so you would think that certain basic things will be covered. - Instead of my daily breakfast that I get as a Diamond member at any Hilton property, I received $30 credit per day that I could only use towards ordering food through room-service. The room service fee itself is $8 which basically means you can only use $22 of that credit for food. Go figure ... - Their "business center" has only 2 computers and 1 printer and it costs you $1 to print one file :) This was really / really embarrassing in my opinion. - The only option for parking was through their valets. This was by far the thing that we hated the most at this hotel and I heard the same feedback at last 10 times in just 4 days from a bunch of customers. It's simply ridiculous that you don't have the freedom to get in your car on your own and drive out when you want. No ... you need to call the valet or wait in line in the lobby (which can be a really long wait if it's one of their Luau nights, when tens of participants from outside attend the show). Not to mention that in case you forget something in our car you have to call the valet again, as you are not allowed to get you your own car in the parking. Simply stupid to force your customers to use the valet service. This should be an option at best. - The property is indeed outdated, but it's kind of ridiculous that some of the buttons in the elevators have lost their numbers, so you have to spend a few seconds to figure it out. You simply do not expect that from the most known hotel in Maui. This is one basic operation that generally travelers use the most when staying there.

Best staff on Maui!

The Grand Wailea is our home away from home on Maui! We have visited this hotel over 23 times starting just after it opened in 1991. Needless to say, we have seen a lot of changes over the years! The one thing that never changes is quality of the staff. Even with multiple changes in ownership, the people who call the Grand their place of work seem to have a special bond to the hotel and to it's guests-especially returning guests like us. We have never had a bad experience with any of the staff-even when they were stressed by a overly demanding convention group or service disrupting remodeling project. This maybe the result of the hotels ability to move staff around the facility, for example, thet pool staff also experiences the front end. One member of the valet staff (Jessica) was once a pool server. As such, she remembered us and made the experience of getting our car fun. Speaking of the pool staff, they probably have the toughest job of any group in the hotel. Image trying to satisfy hundreds of guests all who want the best seat near the pool or beach! (oh by the way, the pool deck and beech can be well over 95 degrees-especially physically demanding when carrying heavy trays with drinks, food, cold towels, frozen grapes, and buckets of water bottles and ice to eager quests. I would be remiss if I didn't mention many of pool "ohana" by name: Aki, Mandy, Becky, Kresta, Dwayne, Ryan (Leon), Nicole, and Hiraly. Cannot forget Sachito, Poom, Shana, Hi Poi, and Travis. We spent 20 days at the Hibiscus pool and everyone of these attendants made sure we had what we needed. Our room was in the special Napua Tower. This concierge floor adds another level of service beyond the Grand's usual standards. No matter what the request, Patty, Ken, Jonathan, Lei, and Faye made sure we had what we needed. Every morning, we enjoyed the great breakfast service provided by Carmen and Armi. They always had a smile for us and made us feel like we were eating at their house. Spa Grande is always on our agenda. Our favorite masseuse, Laura and Robyn are the best. Kei, the spiritual leader of the men's spa, reminded us each morning of the importance of Hawaiian culture to the Grand. Finally, I must also thank Jaime of the front desk for helping us make this our best visit ever. Looking for a great hotel-start by looking for a great staff! Look for the people of the Grand Wailea!

25th Anniversary

We had an overall excellent experience at the Grand Wailea! It is a beautiful luxury hotel with wonderful amenities. Our room was perfect with a nice view overlooking the pools and ocean. We enjoyed the convenience of the oceanfront, all of the pools and the many outdoor lounging areas to relax. We ate at 2 of the onsite restaurants Bistro Molokini and Humuhmunuku Nukuapua'a - both were very good! We also went to the Lua one evening which was fun and the food was delicious. We rented a car for 2 days of off site excursions. We picked the car up right in the lobby which was super convenient! Just for fun we scheduled a professional photo session to celebrate our 25th Anniversary with Pacific Dream Photography. Mind you my husband does NOT like photo sessions or really getting his picture taken period! It was a delightful experience. We both truly enjoyed ourselves during the 45 minute session! It was a fun memory in and of itself thanks to our excellent photographer Moorea! We ended up purchasing photos to commemorate our 25th Hawaiian Anniversary and the video they created of our photo session was just lovely. Quite a nice keepsake. The hotel was convenient to other restaurants and easy to navigate to any excursion. Although I would highly recommend this hotel, especially for a special occasion, there were a few negatives. I was surprised that the bathroom grout was not properly cleaned for such a nice hotel. Also we specifically called the hotel to inquire about shuttle service from the airport. They did not tell us there was shuttle service nor coordinate the shuttle service. They did advertise shuttle service in and around Wailea, however when we tried to use it it was never available so we just took cabs. But other than that we had a fabulous stay at Grand Wailea and would highly recommend it!

Wonderful Honeymoon

We came to Grand Wailea for our honeymoon where we were upgraded upon arrival! They were so kind and even sent champagne and chocolate covered strawberries to our room to congratulate us! The room/bathroom was very clean and updated. Our room was always cleaned with bed made when we returned from the pool/beach (usually cleaned twice daily). We loved the adult only pool and spent most of our time there. The food at the resort is pricey but everything we had was delicious (we loved the pork pizza at the Bistro Molokini by the pool). The Grotto swim up bar was so much fun and bar tender was a rockstar! All the employees were very friendly and helpful throughout our stay. We loved how close we were to the Wailea shops. We walked there several times during our stay to eat/shop. You can spend a whole week at the Grand and not run out of things to do. We only rented a car and left the resort one day to go check out some snorkeling beaches..but we actually saw the most turtles right on Wailea Beach behind the resorts. My only complaint would be I wish there were more umbrellas to sit under in the pool areas. The seats under the umbrellas were always taken at 7am (when the pools open) and occupied the entire day. It would be nice if there were more umbrellas with the option to put them down instead of fighting for seats to sit in the shade. We definitely will be returning. It was such a relaxing week filled with beautiful views and lots of Lava Flows (must try drinks)!
