Book a Grand Velas Vacation!

This is our second Apple Vacation. Our first was at another Grand Velas property. Both properties are outstanding. Our only regret is that we didn't book a longer stay.

This resort is GREAT! Just returned from a trip with my adult sons and my parents (and was there in December with my husband). All of us had a fabulous and relaxing time, enjoyed the great food (Thanks, Claudio!), and were treated beyond expectations by all the staff. Wonderful!!!

Most impressive. Beautiful resort, excellent service and the best food I've ever had in Mexico. Good rating on Apple. Everything from start to finish was more than I ecpected. Would love to send some of my clients down there. Thanks for the fam trip It was most excellent! I realize the entertainment was lacking and only because the hotel was so under occupancy rate. Only around 26% So don't feel that would stop me from booking this property.

The staff at the Grand Vilas is all about service. They work tirelessly to keep the facilities perfect and to exceed the expectations of every guest. The restaurants provide an outstanding dining experience, far better than any other "all inclusive" resort we have stayed at. A great resort....we will be back!

Great family venue

Start with service and your own individual concierge, move on to cuisine that is uniformly terrific, to a setting that is picture postcard perfect, and you have the ingredients for a terrific family vacation. The philosophy of Grand Velas is simple: shower your guests with attention. Not the cloying kind, just the right amount so that every need or want is happily supplied. We had been to Riviera Nayarit before and enjoyed our visit but this was our first to Grand Velas. It is a special place. If we had a minor criticism it would be the layout of the guest suites. You enter to find a door-less bathroom. More privacy would be better. But this is a quibble. The rooms are spacious and well appointed. The all-inclusive package makes vacationing here effortless. Well done!

Our stay at the Grand Velas was everything we would ever want in a relaxing vacation. Attention to every detail added to our enjoyment. We were pampered from the initial welcome massage to the farewell gift. The food in every restaurant was five star every night. The service from the personal consierge to the pool servers was excellent. Definitely a destination I will go back to!

This resort is amazing and very kid/family friendly. Food is delicious, hostesses and wait staff is very courteous and attentive. Five stars for Diego Vasquez, Jessica Gsquivel, Juan Aragon and boss Gustavo Diaz for making pool and sand activities incredibly fun!! Can’t say enough how much fun our family had that week playing with Diego, Juan and Jessica. All are amazing with kids!! Diego and Juan especially took extra time with my sons and daughter playing table games and teaching them how to play volleyball. And Francesco was an amazing pool server making sure our food and drinks were always taken care of. Lucca was a class act Italian dinner with amazing wait staff and spectacular food. We couldn’t have asked for a better week. Definitely look forward to returning soon!!

5 Diamond! 2nd time here and it was just as amazing. Will definitely return! Pros and Cons list in review.

We stayed at this property from November 25 - December 2, 2017. I love to research vacation spots and before we went on our 2-week trip I looked everywhere for our best options. I knew we needed to come back to Grand Velas but I wanted to give another hotel a chance. We stayed at the other hotel a week before and it honestly did not even compare. There is a reason Grand Velas is a 5 diamond, Virtuoso, Forbes list property. You will not be disappointed staying here! Pros 1. Food is seriously incredible. We are major foodies and wine lovers (we have our own vineyard) and the food and wine that is included here is what will make us keep coming back. So many options. 2. Service. They take giving amazing service seriously. For example, Every time you walk by a staff member, they make sure to look at you and say hello. Everyone is super friendly and it makes your stay extra enjoyable when everyone is so nice and happy. 3. The Azul buffet breakfast and lunch can also be A La Carte. Whatever you want they will make (as long as they have it). It may just take a Mexican minute :) For example: There was no chocolate cake on the lunch dessert buffet one day so we just asked for it and they brought us one. Same thing for chocolate covered strawberries. 4. So many lounge chairs. Extra comfy. Beautiful, sturdy, wooden chairs with thick cushions and a towel cover on the cushion. Then a rolled up towel is placed on each chair. There are also lots of towel stands all around the pool if you need more. No towel cards. No rushing to save seats. If you need three towels, take 3. Or ask the pool waiters for them and they will bring them. If you need another umbrella, just ask, you will receive. 5. Sunscreen. I brought a sunscreen from home that was bugging our skin and making it very dry. Luckily, they have sunscreen that you can use, complimentary. So we ended up using theirs the last 4 days! Such a great bonus so I didn't have to run into town and find something different. 6. They have Resident Hawks to keep the pesky little birds away (a huge improvement from two years ago when we were here and there were no hawks). 7. Bottles of wine. Their all inclusive wine list had 27 different bottles to choose from! 8. Room service - for the most part was quick and the menu is fantastic - rack of lamb, filet mignon and chicken strips (made fresh with real chicken). No charge for room service, its all included in your stay. 9. Personal concierge. Roberto was so helpful and kind. I asked him if there were any toys to keep our boys occupied when we were up in the room getting ready for dinner and he brought a huge bucket of Lego and some party balloons that were made into bicycles and sword shapes! And we were able to keep the toys for the whole week. 10. Beach. It was beautiful, the sand was finer and softer than in Puerto Vallarta and the water was warmer than the pool! We brought our boys (3&5) boogie boarding every morning when the water was extra calm and they had the most wonderful time! You could walk out far and not be too deep so it was an especially great beach location for young kids. 11. Kayaks, Boogie boards, buckets and shovels for sand castle building all were included. 12. Pools. Beautiful large infinity pools. They are separated into 3 pools and the top one is actually quite warm. We didn’t realize this until a few days into our stay but once we did it was hard to stay away. Kids pool was great too. Good size and shallow. 13. Check in was a breeze! So smooth and easy. Everyone comes to you. They brought us hibiscus water and my son accidentally dropped his and they had someone cleaning it up within a minute. I also got a little cut from the broken glass and they were so worried about me and bandaged me up (it was not even worth a band-aid) but the man helping me was so sweet and genuinely cared that I was ok. We also received a 5-minute head and neck massage. What a way to start the week! 14. The spa is astounding. The water therapy was quite the experience and my spa butler was so nice and helpful. I would go back just for that! My massage ritual was so beautiful and she was so great at her job. From someone who gets regular massages and is pretty picky, I was impressed! 15. We were upgraded to a 2 bedroom family suite that was so spacious (3000 sqft), modern and had the most incredible view of the resort, pool, ocean, and sunsets! It also had plush robes, tons of towels and slippers for the adults. 16. Maid service. We were always well stocked with towels, soaps and minibar extras and everything was tidied up so nice in the morning. Then in the evening they would do turndown service where they would clean and organize everything again and leave a newsletter of what was happening the next day! If you are going for an early dinner, just call and let them know you are ready for turndown as I think they regularly come much later. 17. The kids club is great. We only used it once and the girls there were so kind and we felt that our kids were safe and secure. 18. The Koi ponds and waterfalls are so beautiful and calming and the landscaping is manicured meticulously. 19. The A La Carte restaurants were all equally delicious. Frida has this duck dish that I now dream about. So drool worthy. Lucca had an incredible carbonara and the chocolate mousse was perfect. At Piaf, my favourites were the lobster bisque and the beef short ribs. 20. Free wifi. Cons 1. Pools seemed a bit dirty - bugs in the water and a few small tiles were missing. 2. Price (but will continue to pay because it’s worth it). 3. Didn’t like the competitive feeling you get from servers at Azul. Telling us to tell the hostess we only want to sit in their section (I'm thinking because they knew we tipped? Or maybe they just really liked us LOL). :) 4. Pool service wasn’t consistent. We were there 7 nights. Some mornings we were getting served early, others we weren’t seeing anyone until 11am. We would see staff standing in a circle getting briefed in the poolside restaurant for (no exaggeration) HOURS! Also we noticed that certain areas had pool side staff but if you aren’t sitting in their area you don’t get served. One guy (I think his name was Juan) was amazing and he was poolside the first day we were there and then he was moved to the beach and he would always wave to us and say hi but it seemed like he wasn’t allowed to come serve us. But whoever was supposed to be serving us was nowhere to be found. I heard one lady saying to her husband “Where are all the pool servers, I didn’t pay $3000 a night to have to go get my own drink.” 5. Our last night was my biggest frustration. The hotel was booked with a huge conference so they only had one restaurant open. The restaurant was Piaf which is for ages 12 and up and we have 3 kids under 5. So our concierge offered to take us to any restaurant we wanted to go and they would pay. They were incredibly accommodating and went above and beyond to make it not inconvenient for us. BUT then my eldest son got sick and we didn't want to leave the hotel. So we were trying to arrange to have the Piaf menu to come to us in our room but it took them forever to figure it out and it was really frustrating because no one knew what was originally offered (our concierge wasn’t there anymore). Then they were telling us to just order off the regular room service menu, which of course is not what we wanted (or what was offered). Anyway, this all started at around 7pm and we finally got the Piaf dinner around 930pm. By then we were exhausted, ate dinner quickly and went to bed. It was definitely not what we were expecting for our last night there. At the end of our week, we were sad to leave. Check out was just as easy as checking in. I printed our boarding passes in the business center and when we were about to leave they told us we could probably wait another 20 minutes as it would be a quick ride to the airport. So we sat in the gorgeous, massive open-air lobby and enjoyed a drink before we jumped in the cab ($20 USD to the airport). We look forward to returning again!
