Beautiful resort - terrible service

Pros The jungle location is amazing and all that we expected. The newer tower rooms are very nice with views of the ocean. The bungalow rooms give you more of the jungle experience. The resort has adult only areas, which is very nice. The adult pools are beautiful and clean. Housekeeping is good. The Japanese restaurant was good. The chef was very talented. Fernando, the bartender at the adult pool gives outstanding service. Cons The service is sub-par. We asked to be switched to a bungalow room for the jungle experience. The bathtub leaked and had to be repaired. The hot and cold water valves don't work correctly. Either scalding hot water or freezing and poor water pressure...almost a trickle. A few days later the water wasn't working at all and had to be repaired. One evening it was raining so we ordered room service and 45 minutes later we received a call that the phones weren't working and so they never put in our order to the kitchen. It was now after room service hours (9:00 pm) and the restaurants were all closed. When asked why they didn't just go in person to place the order Marco Herrnandez stated that he would first have to ask a manager. I asked him where he expected us to eat, he suggest the pool bar, but then realized it was also closed. He finally called us back, after speaking to his manager, and we received our meal about 30 minutes later. The resort occupancy was so low that the on-site restaurant options were greatly limited. In most cases only 1 restaurant was open per night. We were at the resort for 8 days and were only able to eat 2 nights at the resort restaurants even though we had the "all-inclusive" package. We were told we needed to make reservations but when they were open, they were "booked." However, a staff member told us that if we slipped the restaurant captain $20 american cash, they would most likely find a table for us. The Italian food was terrible. Ultimately, we survived mostly on the pool bar food. Fried fish, hot dogs, natchos, and french fries. The concierge Steve, although nice, is mostly concerned with getting all of the guests to sign up for the "vacation club." Much like a time-share spiel, which became exhausting to continually say "NO" everyday. At the pool, at the spa, at the restaurant, at the Sky Bar club and even on our last day. He said that he gets $100 every time someone goes to the meeting and then he showed us pictures of his kids. It was too much! Overall the Grand Sirenis Matlali Hills Resort & Spa is a beautiful location but management needs to look into their service staff and guest experiences.

we start with the good: hotel is nice and situated in a beautiful mountain with lots of green plants and beautiful views the check in was a breeze thanks to the hard work of Marco Antonio and Nadia in the reception that not only helped us a lot when we first come in but thru the all vacation .All tho the resort is very hilly we didn't had a problem with transportation up and down thru our stay thanks to the hard work of Guadaloupe,Juan Herreno,Jesus,Alejandro to name the ones that we saw the most and all of the drivers inside of the resort that don't stop the all day.We had a beautiful room in building 5 with a great view of the mountains and the pacific ocean a little further our shower was huge with no issues about anything thanks to the hard work of our maid Amelia my husband was celebrating is birthday and they decorated the room beautifully for the occasion every night we had chocolates waiting for us in the room .Katia our concierge was very nice and helpful we had reservations for all of the restaurants we find the Japanese entertaining but if you hadn't eat the all day you need to go back to the buffet, brazilian rodizio just ok Italian ok our favorite the steak house all the food we found to be more like a gourmet style they don't have big portions of anything but we think that what they offer is nicely made and good presentation 'if you are used to regular all included this resort is very different" The drinks at the bars are very nice and this people work very hard to please you I want to thank Fernando and Manuel and the girl that cooks up at the adults only pool for there hard work and Marisol at the buffet .Now the beach ! a lot of rocks to get into the water we did bring water shoes but as soon you try to go in you have a big drop into the water and the waves crash in there so it is very dangerous to go in and out of the water witch is a shame since the water is beautiful and warm we manage to stay in the water just for a little bit if you walk by the left there is some rocks that brake the waves a little no problems with transportation to and from the beach we never had to wait for long.NOW THE BAD this is what to expect from the manager of this hotel and is administration team if God forbit you have a accident: I failed in my room 'and no I wasn't drunk I don't drink" the people that decorated the room left the light on the fan in the ceiling on and at one in the morning I put myself in top of the bed to try to pull the cord since was the only way to shot it off, lost my balance fail into the floor bring the tv with me got very bruzed but thank God didn't killed myself the next morning been very honest before I went to breakfast I went to the reception and reported the accident it took them exactly five minutes to let me know that I had to pay for the tv 6000 pesos and they were quick of taking the money from me NEVER are you ok? do you need a doctor? NOTHING i ask for a accident report or a note from the hotel explaining what happen so I could bring with me for insurance purpose for 5 days I went thru front desk morning afternoon and evening to try to get anything from them went to the concierge nothing they told me the only thing I could have was my credit card receipt but that didn't specifight what was the money for !!!Finally the last day someone found me a receipt that said it was for a tv.So for the manager of this hotel Sir please wake up and smell the flowers try not to catter to the club members or the locals only, us the turists deserve the same treatment as the ones you catter for start having more consideration for your guests all of them not just some have entertainment for all the guests not only when you have a convention going on or you have a full resort and have more consideration for the people that get hurt in your hotel the 4 stars that I'm giving is not for you is for your hard workers because you sir do not deserve ANY kind star

Unique Resort in Hills - Beautiful and Serene

Just spent 1 week at this all inclusive resort and overall we were very happy with our stay here. The service was very good. The room was nice. We thought the food was very good with a good selection. They have a private beach that you can shuttle to that has food and drinks available - Very nice. This resort is located in the Hills so be prepared to walk up and down the hill to get to the pools and restaurants and bars. Shuttles are available but you still have to walk a little bit. They have 3 themed restaurants to choose from but Make your reservations for these restaurants as soon as possible to get a good seating. If you wait to the last second - you may not get in. I do enjoy a good alcoholic drink and was disappointed in the way that they make some of their mixed drinks like Mohito, Margarita, Tequila Sunrise. (too sweet - No you do not add Fresca to a Margarita ???). But that is just me. We will visit this resort again in the future but maybe in the April timeframe when it is not so hot/humid.

Staff - Honor Mention at Adult Pool Bar El Tequila and Beach Club

My wife and I visited the SPT resort during the members celebration event and we quickly notice why we felt at home so quick: the staff is exceptionally hard working and very welcoming. The resort is a more intimate one and you end up getting to know the staff quickly. More surprisingly is the staff also ends up knowing you just as fast. Worth mentionning is the team at the El Tequila Bar at the Adult pool: - Celso the “mesero” he will instantly welcome you and will call out your name from the second floor, just to make you feel welcome and at home. - Victor the “bar tender” is very nice and shy initially but he is very welcoming as well and with more time will also welcome you by your name and will look after you. - Scarlet the “chef” does not leave the kitchen unless to go to another one but wherever she is she will recognize you and welcome you with a timid smile. - Hugo the other “bar tender” is very outgoing and will. Are you feel right at home the very minute he meets you. He may not remember your name as much as Celso but he definitely wants to. Are sure you have a great time. Now if you go to the beach, don’t let the ride stop you as the trip is worth going and the staff down there is just as nice particularly Jose that goes out of his way to meet your every need despite not speaking much English. What is really great is that it is not holding him back from engaging and communicating with you. Jose walks the beach and serve you like none other. Enjoy your stay!
