I really enjoyed my stay here in the honeymoon suite. Rain shower, private pool, great room service 24 hours, and staff was awesomely friendly and helpful. The one thing that didn’t meet up to expectations is some of their restaurants. The steak and Japanese were excellent. The buffets, unfortunately, were sub par. I recommend you get the upgrade for better restaurant choice guaranteed for every day.

Book Platinum!!

This review is a bit late, we stayed in November of 2017 in the Platinum side of this resort. It's a great hotel - if you book platinum. First, how the hotel is set up. The hotel (sunset and riviera) are two "different hotels" that mirror each other. You will have access to both hotels by staying at one. At the back of the hotel, near the water, are both the platinum sections (again, mirrored on either side). Lastly, there is the Platinum Yucatan Princess off to the side - which is the adult's only section. You don't have access to this hotel whether or not you book platinum but the Adult's only resort does have access to the rest of the Princess hotel (except the Platinum). There is also a family club section (for the kiddies). *Please note I can't speak for the rooms/pools etc. that are not Platinum. I'm going to start with the main differences between platinum, and non-platinum, because I had the hardest time finding this! 1. The platinum guests get free 24-hour room service, where the non-platinum guests have to pay for room service. 2. The platinum guests can pre-book their a la carts, and the non-platinum have to line up at 2:00 p.m. and hope there is availability. 3. the check-in for platinum is not as busy as the main lobby. 4. The platinum section has their own buffet (x2, for sunset and riviera) and their own private pool (x2, for sunset and riviera). It's a small pool, but private and close to the platinum rooms. 5. Platinum rooms have a Jacuzzi on the balcony (but keep in mind the corner rooms have NO privacy on the balcony). 6. There is a reserved-platinum section of the beach that has a drink service and comfier loungers (as opposed to those blue woven-plastic chairs). I personally didn't find it an issue. We arrived at the main lobby and we were asked where we were staying. As soon as we said platinum, the man brought us to the platinum lobby in a golf cart and we were checked in right away. We did see lines that were quite long in the regular lobby on a couple of nights. In platinum, you can pre-book your a la carts when you check-in; highly recommend you do this as they fill up quite quickly! Non-platinum guests have to line up at 2:00 p.m. and hope there is space available (keep in mind the platinum guests have probably pre-booked and filled up all the spots). That being said, the a la carts are never busy (always available seats) but they don't seat you without a reservation. A $10 bill can usually resolve that issue. The rooms are clean, and relatively new. From what I understood, very few rooms had an ocean view. There is a large mangrove in between the resort and the beach that obstructs the view - but the mangroves house cranes, birds, and all sorts of amazing animals (so it's not a let-down). The platinum rooms have an outside Jacuzzi as well as one inside, and a shower. (The only down side was that the water pressure was awful!). There are hair dryers in the bathroom. Due to the sheer size of the resort - it's hard to fault the staff for taking some time to clean the rooms. Keep in mind that the maid is a different person than the one who stocks the fridge - so you have to leave 2 separate tips (assuming you tip these hard-working people!). The food was a hit or a miss; typical resort food. The buffets had regular buffet food, with different themes each night. There are two main buffets to choose from, as well as the two platinum buffets (for breakfast and lunch). The a-la-carts are amazing. We tried the italian (absolutely the BEST food on the resort), the international and the steak-house which were all great. The sports bar has 24-hour paninis (which were probably the second best food on the resort). The size of the resort is large - but not overwhelming. During the day there is a shuttle running constantly. We only had to wait once because it was full (and also pouring rain- so it's understandable. They also post the times they will come for pick-up so it's not a surprise waiting game. They come about every 15 minutes. There's a daily shuttle to Playa del Carmen for approx $4USD there and $4USD back. It comes at set times during the day. It drops you off at the heart of Playa del Carmen, which is a lot of fun to travel to. Obviously you are going to get people yelling at you to buy their wares; but no one was overly pushy or offensive. Simply say no thank-you or just continue walking. There are a couple of malls that have higher end stores (apple, Oakley, American Eagle, MAC etc.) as well as souvenir shops. Just a tip: Don't buy souvenirs at the hotel shop! They are so overpriced! Spend the $8 and take the trip to Playa del Carmen - you'll save so much more than that! The biggest down-fall to this resort was not something that the resort can be faulted for - but it is the other guests. We were appalled with the behavior of some of the guests. There seemed to be a lot of local people at this resort-who may have a different set of how to be respectful of others. It was a constant flow of being shoulder-checked as we walked down the paths, to having people steal seats (when we got up from our meal for less than a minute), and as far as having people throw footballs at us and laugh about it. Over all, a great resort. Highly recommend that you book platinum though. It's an extra $200-$300 for the week (when you're already spending so much - you may as well).

Fun weekend with the squad

Our trip here was great, but Farelo (the bartender at the adults only section of the beach) really made it amazing. He took care of our every need and made sure we had the best time ever. He was so friendly, he definitely made the trip very memorable. The beach was nice but a little rocky. Buffets and the habachi restaurant were good but the steak restaurant was a no go. Also beds were hard but the rooms were nice and clean. Overall a really fun time

Family Wedding Vacation

This was a family wedding vacation. The check in was a bit slow but once we got to our room we were happy with our accommodations. The resort is large and there is a lot of walking, either to the restaurants, beach or pool. We had a garden facing room on the second floor. The bed was comfy and the room was quite large. The only thing missing in the room are Kleenex, so if that is something you need make sure to bring some with you. The 2 buffets in the main lobby were good, breakfast always seems the best, The 2 main buffet were very busy every morning but on our second day discovered that they serve breakfast at 2 other restaurants closer to the beach that were not as busy. There may not have been as many choices as the main buffet but so much more relaxing. You do need to make reservations to dine at any of the specialty restaurants. It was a bit difficult to get earlier reservations. All the restaurants we tried were pretty good. The buffet always has lots of choices and there always was either roast turkey, pork or beef on the menu every night. The pools were all very nice, water warm and lots of different areas to hang out at. Music was only at the main pool, so lots of quiet pool area for those who prefer that. Getting pool chairs was not an issue, lots of chairs available at pool and at the beach. The beach was OK but not the best. It was calmer and nicer a bit further up. The snack bar at the beach had a good selection for lunch, there was a taco cart at the pool as well as a BBQ grill at another pool. Lots of choices for daytime snacking and lunch. The sports bar had a good selection of food and was open 24 hrs. There were TVs for watching sports, pool tables and bar. Good place to hang out. Entertainment was good. There was a show every night and music in main area as well. The ice cream shop which is a bit hidden was very good, retro style restaurant with lots of ice cream choices. Make sure you find it, the ice cream was awesome. There were a lot of raccoon like animals on the resort. We did not have an issue with them. They do like to steal food if they have the opportunity and they are very good at dumping your drink and slurping it up. They do not bother you, but they are always around. Overall this was a good resort and would recommend it to anyone.

Great stay at the Grand Riviera Princess

Our stay at the Grand Riviera Princess was as advertised. The grounds were meticulously kept which is no small task given the expansive property. The beach is very well maintained, and there is enough space so that all guests can find a suitable spot. The restaurants are diverse in culinary style and the waiter service is extremely attentive and friendly. The only criticisms were that the all inclusive alcohol consumption only included 3 rd rate alcohol and you had to pay for even medium shelf liquor AND there has to be a better option for getting cash than the on site ATM which charged an unimaginable $48 USD fee for a $440 withdrawl, The resort should never allow that. Finally,,, a huge thanks to Juan, Fredy, and Rodolfo, the 3 amazing bartrenders at the lobby bar for being so attentive and gracious....we looked forward to going to the bar every night.
