Great hotel for the money
Dec 04 2017
We love Park Royal. We've stayed numerous times. The food is good, the people/staff are awesome. Many have been there years and we see them year after year. The staff is friendly and appear to be happy working there. The rooms are okay, hot water usually needs to be adjusted, air works, it's a fine room to sleep in since that's really all we use it for. The food is good in all the restaurants. We don't like the pants requirement for men but have learned to deal with it after so many years. Other than that, no complaints about the hotel or staff. It's also in a good location, just a little over a mile into town. I would highly recommend it as it's one of the best hotels for the money.

Hotel room

There were little bugs all over bathroom counter and on top of the counter in the room of the hotel. The beds need to be replaced! Super hard and uncomfortable. The air did not work properly in our room. The repair man came in to look at it but it was never fixed. A few days we had no wash cloths. We asked for some and the maid said there were none.

Not your resort
Jun 21 2017
This Resort is not only your resort but have to share with any locals and tourist. Resort sells day passes to anyone so it gets a little crowded at times. Elevator was broken several times during our stay, getting a lady stuck in it one morning. Mexican 5 star Restuarant cooks steak one way no matter how you order, well done and tough. Most of staff was very friendly. Very limited items on room service. Several of us were sick at least 3 out of the 7 days there. We will not ever stay at the Grand Park Royal Cozumel again!!! Also need to watch your exchange rate there because if they know you aren't sure, it will change from cab to cab and vendor to vendor. We will be doing a large group trip in the next couple years and it damn sure won't be there!

Second trip in two months
May 09 2017
We were at the resort at the beginning of March and when the opportunity arose for a vacation at the beginning of May, we did the same trip again. The location is perfect, the facility is very nice and very clean, and service is outstanding. Loved every minute of our trips.

The hotel staff were great especially the event staff who we got to know throughout Thur the week. The food was rarely good. I think we had two good dinner meals and a few good breakfasts during our stay otherwise it was pretty subpar. The snack bars had littl variety and the quality of food was lacking. The infinity pools were very beautiful to lay at but thit pool walls were a little dirty. Had a great time despit these things.

selling nightmare
Apr 08 2017
Staff was trying to sell us on things from first minute to last. Told us not to speak to apple staff and only talk to them. Air conditioner did not work near 80 and higher in our room the entire trip and when we asked repeatedly for help they promised to look into it and never did. Had incident of waking up to security shining lights in our room. A majority of staff seemed annoyed and wanted nothing to do with assisting you in restaurants. We will not frequent this location again. Our first experience with apple at another location was far better.

Great value

The location, cleanliness of the entire property, the service are all 5 star. The food was ok and the main pool was rather dirty, but all in all it is a very nice resort. Luis in the sports bar is a treasure and all the staff work very hard to keep the property in to shape. I would definitely go back!

Wheelchair Accessibility
Feb 28 2017
To give this review perspective, we are a same-sex married couple that traveled to this resort for our honeymoon. One of us is also bound to a wheelchair. The Good: This hotel and its staff were great and friendly. The food was pretty good, and the selection was not bad. Adult and non-adult beverages were very good and it was not hard to get them. Entertainment varied from night-to-night and some shows were better than others, but I really appreciate the hard work that the entertainment staff do to try to vary things up, they also all had positive attitudes. The fire show, and Karaoke nights were our favorites. For an able-bodied person I would give this resort a 4/5 The Bad: The issue we had is that this hotel is listed as being wheelchair accessible (which is only partially true). The issue is that the entire grounds including ramps (except in buildings and areas around the pool) are made of a Mayan rock and are very bumpy and hard for someone in a wheelchair to get around on. When pushing my husband in his wheelchair it looked like he was sitting on a jackhammer because the ground is not level. There were other people in similar situations, and people with walkers, or balance issues that were having difficulties as well. It's not comfortable to walk around barefoot on, and if you have stiletto heels, be careful! Some of the restaurants (Mexican, Italian and Caribbean) and one of the pools also have stairs to them, the staff were more than willing to help lift the wheelchair up these stairs so it wasn't as big of an issue. Also, there is a huge flight of stairs between the lobby and the resort, so someone from the staff would bring my husband in his wheelchair around the back employee hallways to get him up to the front desk area (They are working on installing an elevator however). For a mobility-challenged person I would give this resort a 2/5 (But they are making an effort to improve this). Overall, we would not go back unless the mobility issues were improved, but that is a situation many people are not in. I loved the people, and overall we had a great honeymoon. Heads up that someone will likely try to give you free things/discounts to go to a 90 minute "Vacation Club" timeshare presentation, just a heads up in case you are not interested.

Exceptional Stay As Always
Feb 04 2017
This is our 5th stay at this resort in Cozumel,MX and as expected it was exceptional. The staff is very friendly and always ready to help with anything needed. The resort is always making changes to accommodate guests and insuring your stay to be fun and relaxing. We personally like this resort for all the accommodations that are on site and the close proximity to things to do. The resort is also nestled in beside the cruise ship peer and is really nice to watch the ships come and go everyday.

Not what i expected
Jan 30 2017
I was unaware that this was a docking port for cruise ships and that was very disappointing to me as I did not want to look at ships. I specifically chose an island so that I could feel like I was no longer in a tourist area. There also is not a beach which I was shocked that I read beachfront property yet there was only a small manmade beach. The water was roped off so that guests could not actually swim out into the ocean. I know it is a family friendly resort but there should be an age limit to at least 1 of the pools. I hated the fact that kids were running around everywhere and SPLASHING in the pools. My room was not ready when I arrived at 3:00pm which is unacceptable since it took me 3 hours to get there from the Cancun airport. Also my room was half cleaned and there were ants everywhere that we had to leave to have them clean it and add in the amenities (such as toilet paper) that were not in our room. I would never come back nor recommend this hotel to anyone.

My boyfriend and I traveled here the week of thanksgiving. While the hotel could use some updating, I was ok with that because it was very clean and well priced. My disappointments were with the comfort of the room.... the hardest bed ever in life. Even additional blankets didn’t help. The fridge didn’t work in our room and it was a major challenge to get bottled water in our room. The food was mediocre. But I guess that’s what is expected at an all inclusive. Staff was friendly, just wish the beds and food were better.

First ten-day vacation

The Grand Park Royal Cozumel is amazing. We have vacationed at this resort previously, but this is the first time as the Grand Park Royal Cozumel. We were very impressed with the excellent service and every staff member treated us like royalty. We did an upgrade to our existing membership and will definitely return with friends and family in the near future. The food at all the restaurants was delicious and we especially appreciated and enjoyed the lunch served in the Caribbean Restaurant.

Big disappointment!

My adult son and I spent a week at the Grand Park Royale January 6-13, 2018. We chose this hotel based on the reviews and on the location. I absolutely cannot believe that anyone would give this place 5 stars. If you are a member of the timeshare they definitely treat you differently. They have gold bracelets and are treated like gold. Those of us with green bracelets were definitely second class citizens. The timeshare people try to nab you as soon as you have checked in and want to set up the time for the presentation. The woman was not happy when we said we were not interested and would never buy into a time share. I also have never checked into a resort and not been escorted to our room. The bellman stood at the top of the lobby stairs and pointed at a building in the distance and told us to go there and take the elevator up to the second floor. He said the bags would already be there. We found our way to building 1 and found our room, but the bags were not there. I called the front desk and asked about the bags and she said they were on the way. They showed up about a half hour later. The lack of attention to detail at the hotel is mind boggling. At breakfast nearly every day there were no glasses for juice at the buffet and none of the employees seemed to notice. When they were advised, it took them 15 minutes to get some glasses. The buffet would run out of an item and the empty pan was not replaced within the time it took us to eat the meal. We actually never encountered hot food on the buffet. The eggs were barely lukewarm and the sausages were downright cold. Coffee and water was provided by the waiters and it was not until our last day that we actually got any service. 6 out of 7 mornings they never came by to refill the coffee or give us more water. Finally, on the last morning we got Jorge and he was very attentive. When we arrived I noticed that the main pool looked murky, not crystal clear. It was late afternoon so I chalked it up to people swimming with suntan lotion on. However, I noticed that the pool water was never clear. They vacuumed it regularly, but the water remained murky the entire time. The 2 infinity pools by the beach were clear. No way was I getting in the main pool! My son did swim in it and he got sick. We ate dinner the first night at the buffet and it was awful. It was Mexican night and we figured they couldn't mess that up! Well, they did - lukewarm food, empty pans so our choices were limited and lousy service. We had no problems getting reservations at the a la carte restaurants. I got reservations for 5 nights the morning after we arrived. We first ate at the Mexican Restaurant, then the Italian and then the Caribbean. I originally made reservations for 2 nights at each restaurant, but after a very disappointing meal in the Mexican restaurant, decide to cancel the second visit there. The choices at the Mexican restaurant were limited. Frankly, I can't even remember what I ordered, but I do remember leaving hungry. Our first visit to the Italian restaurant I had the Citrus Salmon and my son had the Saltimbucca a la Romana. Both entrees were good and they had a very nice salad bar. Service was better than at the Mexican restaurant, but not great. However, the 2nd time we visited the Saltimbucca a la Romana was so tough we couldn't chew it and the service was even worse than the first visit. We were still hungry so we ordered room service around 8:30pm and it never arrived. The Caribbean restaurant was the best of the lot. The Coconut Shrimp and Coconut Mousse were excellent, as was the salad bar there. The service from Alex was also very good. We ate there twice. We wanted some Mexican food, so one night we went out for dinner and Paid $60.00 for decent Margaritas, Enchiladas and Fajitas. We went out for lunch 3 times during our stay. So much for an all inclusive! I will say that the maid kept our room in good order, but some days she came at 9am and other days it was not done until 4pm. We left her a tip every day and it paid off as she gave us additional bottled water and tied the curtains into a flower with a hibiscus in the center. A few times we did not receive wash cloths, but we prepared for that by bringing a stack of cheap washcloths that we threw out after using them. Room service was hit or miss. One night it took an hour to get a cheesburger, another night the order never arrived and on our last night it arrived within 30 minutes, but the order was wrong. The other problem we had was that the other guests were very ill mannered. There was no buffet etiquette from the Europeans or S. American guests. They just butted into the buffet line without excusing themselves. The walls were paper thin and there was a wailing baby in the room next door and another wailing toddler across the hall. The people seemed to have no problem letting the babies scream at the top of their lungs for long periods in the middle of the night. We also had a domestic disturbance one night across the hall when the man locked the woman out of the room. She was pounding on the door cursing at the top of her lungs. He finally let her in and the fight continued for another hour. The next morning they resumed the fight. We called the front desk, but they never sent Security. We were concerned because they both seemed very hostile and they had a toddler in there. Also during our stay we got to feel the effects of the 7.6 earthquake that hit off of the coast of Honduras. The building swayed, and then the beds started shaking. Luckily, the power did not go out, but we did not go out on the balcony in case there had been any damage. When I said something to the hotel employees the next day they denied that there had been one, yet when we went off property it was a major topic of conversation. Also, the TV was out for several days. The message on the screen said that the subscription needed to be renewed. Didn't pay the cable bill? The biggest annoyance was not having any ice for 5 of the 7 days. When we arrived I was able to get ice from the ice maker on our floor. It was empty the rest of the week. Finally on our 6th day they put an out of order sign on it. On the second day we were able to get ice from the machine on the 9th floor, but that too was out of order from the 3rd day on. We even went over to builiding 2 and checked the ice machines there, but they too were out of order. I called the front desk and asked if anyone could tell me where I could get ice. They said the icemakers were on every other floor. I explained that we had already checked them and none were working. She suggested we call room service. We called and asked for some ice and they brought us a glass with 3 rapidly melting ice cubes. There is a major lack of communication with the guests who are not time share owners. They need to put the days activities on the TV (lhad a button for that on the TV, but it never worked) or give you a newsletter each night with the next day's activities on it. We only figued out that there was a show because we could hear it from our room. Check out was easier than check in. We called for a bellman and he came promptly and then met us in the lobby. We checked out around 11:30. but they allowed us to keep our wristbands. We had to leave for the airport around 1pm, so eating lunch was not in the cards. We walked off the property and ate a nice lunch at Albertos. When were ready to leave for the airport we got our bags out of bag storage and the bellman hailed us a taxi. I love Cozumel, just not the Grand Park Royal. I previously stayed at Aura and at the Occidental and at El Cozumeleno. I definitely will return to Cozumel, but will never stay at the Grand Park Royal again.

I thought I knew what good service was, but after spending a week at the Grand Park Royal in Cozumel, I have a true understanding of what it means to be hospitable. This was mine and my boyfriends first vacation and we could not have left happier. Although we did not spend much time on the resort during the day, we always made sure to be back in time for dinner at the Italian restaurant. The food was beyond expectation, if you visit you must try the gnocchi with carbonara sauce and the pavlova for dessert. The service in the restaurant was extremely prompt thanks to the wonderful staff, Crystel, Raul, Edwardo, Fernando, Ricardo, Havier, Luis, and Manuel. I am looking forward to returning to the resort to dine with these amazing hosts again. I also have to give a huge shoutout to Pascal Diaz, the food and beverage manager. He went above and beyond his job description to ensure our stay was both memorable and hassle free. My boyfriend and I both work in restaurants back in Toronto and we both agree that Pascal was the most professional manager we have ever seen. He is a true representation of what A+ fantastic service is. Overall, the hotel was extremely clean and well maintained, the beach was a beautiful place for a morning swim. We will never forget our experience at the Grand Park Royal in Cozumel. For any travelers new to Mexico like we were I highly recommend you stop your search right here. You have landed on a place that will make you feel welcome, that will take care of you, and that will show you the time of your life.

Good resort, good people with amazing restaurants staff
Thu Jan 11 15:14:05 EST 2018
I am finishing a 2.5 week stay at the Grand Park Royal Cozumel. I was here not for a vacation (so I didn’t take advantage of many amenities) but for work with a company on the island. The hotel and resort are classic all inclusive but the common areas are meticulously maintained. My housekeeping quality varies on the individual cleaning it but it was usually than what I do for myself at home so very grateful to many of the team. What really made the Grand Park Royal fantastic was the attention of the staff to creating unexpected moments of delight (sorry for retail term but it’s my business and there is no better words to describe it). The front desk team ensuring I had taxis and a warm welcome were awesome. Occasional treats unexpectedly from room service of beautifully presented truffles (yay for chocolate and see pics) really made a long day of work fade away and make me grateful for everyone who works very hard here and I wish I could give their names for recognition. Everyone who contributed towards room 1001 - thank you. The host and service team in the restaurant end were amazing. They took time to make sure this tired working girl was taken care of in the buffet and always had a smile to welcome me with. As atrainer of a sales and service team, it was great to see them not only be courteous to the guests but to their peers as well. The Italian restaurant people are the definition of amazing. Crystel, the hostess always tried to fit me in to the restaurants when possible - going above and beyond since my work schedule did not allowed to make a reservation. Luis, Ricardo and Esteban - you three are true gentleman who made me smile, made me laugh and made me eat probably more than I should. You are 6 star service in a world where 5 stars is the top. And then there was Raul. This amazing gentleman remembered me by name no matter where we ran into each other and ensure I had great experiences. This is not an easy thing for anyone in the service industry but he was able to do it for myself and others. Thank you Raul for making me feel welcome. Your gift is rare and appreciated all the more for it. Thank you to the team for making me feel I was at home while I was away from my own. As a frequent business traveler, you went above and beyond anything I could have imagined. Carrie Lindsay
