Brilliant stay with just a couple of disappointments

This is our last day here & we are sad to be leaving. On the whole we’ve had a great time. On arrival we were given all the info we needed along with room keys and towel cards, a cold flannel and a nice drink! We were quickly taken to our room in block 57 on the ground floor. Disappointed at first as we had requested a top floor. The first few days were great and it was perfect for getting close to the wildlife (part of the reason we wanted to visit Riviera Maya again). However, during the first week the person above sounded like she was walking around in kittten heals the whole time and the second week there was a young family above us so we could hear the children running around, furniture being moved, things being dropped on the floor (our ceiling) and the whirlpool bath being used anywhere between 3 and 6 in the morning. I am definitely not anti children so don’t get me wrong, but I would definitely insist on a top floor room next time. Note to other guests: please just be mindful of those staying in rooms below you! The room however has everything suited to your needs, comfy bed (if a little short in length) and kept spotlessly clean. The buffet restaurants are all great, especially La Hacienda in Colonial which we felt had better quality and more variety of food. Unfortunately, it closed for a refurb half way through our stay and we didn’t feel Tikal buffet nearby was as good and a bit samey. Favourite meal of the day was breakfast in the white sands buffet. We also visited the Mexican, Tapas and Thai al a cartes. All good, but the Thai was a favourite and we were hoping to go tonight for our last meal but as there was always a queue we decided to book, only to be told it was closed tonight. Shame. Building 57 is in an excellent location, close to the pool and beach. Once you find your way around, you’ll find you’re not more than a 10 min walk to anywhere from here (or there are buggies to carry you where ever you want to go). White Sand pool is huge and always fairly quiet with activities if you want to join in. Plenty of beds available every day. Colonial is the busier resort with shows in the evening and the pool area is extremely busy with a more party vibe. We generally preferred Colonial in the evening and white sands pool during the day. There is lots of wildlife here (part of the reason for our return), mostly nocturnal. Agoutis roam during the day along with lots of iguanas who love to come out and sunbathe! Raccoons and Coatis tend to come out more at night here. I was also (pleasantly) surprised to see cats! I was not expecting this but the guests generally loved them, fed and petted them if they were tame. They do absolutely no harm. They just roam like all the other animals but I’ve heard stories of people being borderline cruel and also of the hotel possibly ‘removing’ them. As an animal lover, this would be a deal breaker for me if I were deciding to return to this hotel as we will most definitely be back in Riviera Maya. If you don’t want to share the grounds with the wildlife (and the cats) I suggest you either don’t visit Grand Palladium (or any other hotel in Riviera Maya for that matter!) or please leave them be. Appreciate them! I can’t leave without a mention of the staff who work tirelessly to keep us all satisfied! They all deserve medals for their happy and polite demeanours which I’m sure can get very tiring! A simple please or thank you and return of a compliment can go a long way to ensuring that coming to work for them is slightly more pleasurable. They are the kindest most humble of people so please treat them respectfully. Tips are obviously not mandatory but they deserve a little extra for their hard work. On the whole we have had a fab time & will definitely be back at some point. I would definitely recommend a stay at the Grand Palladium.

Pefect Holiday

We stayed as a couple mid-November for 10 days & I honestly have nothing bad to say about the whole holiday. It was amazing from start to finish & we are already looking to rebook for next year. The resort itself is huge and so beautiful. The staff work round the clock to keep the grounds, rooms & restaurants spotlessly clean. We stayed in the White Sands section of the resort in room 5317. The room was huge and came with everything you could need including robes, slippers, stocked mini bar, toiletries etc. We were on the 2nd floor & had a balcony that looked out to the jungle, this was fab and we were lucky enough to see a whole range of animals including racoons, coati, Iguana’s to name a few. I loved that the animals roamed around freely. The restaurants were all amazing, we didn’t have a bad meal there. We ate mostly at the buffet in the white sands as this was quieter then the main buffet in the colonial section of the restaurant and had plenty of choice. The only thing I would mention about the buffet restaurant is it was difficult to see what was vegetarian due to not all the dishes having labels on. If you could just put a little V next to the veggie dishes that would be amazing, I had a couple of near misses with food I thought was veggie which wasn’t. We tried the Italian, Mexican & Thai Ala Carte restaurant, all were delicious. We booked a massage at the spa which was a wonderful relaxing day. The therapists were great and it was so peaceful around the pool. We also enjoyed the juice & smoothie bar. The hydro therapy experience was great although I was not brave enough to go in the ice pool On our final night we went to the Chic Cabaret and wow what a show that was! It is so worth the money for a show with some of the best performers and acrobats I have seen. The sax player was excellent and played beautify. The waiting staff were great and made sure you never fell short of a drink and the meal was a gorgeous 6 course meal and I was very happy to see a full veggie/vegan menu 😊 Although the resort is beautiful it’s the staff that really make your time here. They all work so hard and are always happy and friendly. The service was great from everyone we met & they really are a credit to the resort. A huge thank you to all the staff for making my holiday so amazing

Wedding fail. Resort fail. TERRIBLE. BAD SERVICE.

I was planning to go here for my wedding. It never happened. I searched for months for a resort and this resort became my #1 pick. It looked beautiful and I really thought my search had ended. But then both my travel agent and I had issues getting in contact with the wedding coordinator. I attempted to email her for a week or 2 before I got a breif response and little information on their wedding packages. I emailed again for more information (the day she emailed me) asking for more information and clarifications on their packages. It's been just over a month now and I still haven't recieved a response!! It's not like I was asking for anything out of the ordinary. I'm sure the resort doesn't care about this as the resort is huge and is profitting regardless of me going there or not. But for anyone looking to book a wedding here just be cautious!

Three couples decided to go on a vacation to the Grand Paladium White Sands Resort in Riviera Maya. Two of us couples have been there several times, the other couple, this was their first time. Our overall experience was excellent, from the time we arrived and during our stay we were treated like family. The people of Palladium (POP) do a fantastic job, they try to get you involved in activities and nightly shows. Some of the activities we were involved with, were aqua bike, bingo, fruit carving, latin classes, ping pong tournament and dance lessons. If an active holiday is what you are looking for, I would highly recommend this fine hotel. Kudos to the POP staff, Ladies : #1 Karen, Adriana & Rafouanti. Men #1 Diego, Enrique & Didier. The best service during our stay was the server @ the Poseidon Retaurant (Eli)

After finishing a two week holiday here recently (3rd time to the hotel), I dont think that it could have been a much better trip. After clearing customs and jumping into our private transfer (recommended as it cuts travel time down quite a lot) we arrived at the white sands lobby greeted by the bell boys to collect our luggage. We headed over to the front desk for check in and were welcomed back with a smile, given our two room keys and all necessary resort information. (Including a map, which if it's your first time here is very helpful haha) Rooms: We were given two rooms in block 53 top floor which were great for close and easy access to the white sand lobby which is a good hub to get to anywhere else you need, whether it be walking or taking a golf buggy. The room itself is incredible, it is generously spacious and well equipped with minibar (stocked daily with beers, soft drinks water and nuts. Although potato chips/chocolate may have been nice as I don't like nuts, but that's being picky), safe, iron and board and a balcony with table and chairs. Inside the room was a large wall mounted TV, with plenty of channels, oppisite my king sized comfortable bed. To one side of that is your lounge area with sofa, table, coffee table and chairs. The other side is the 'open planned' bathroom which holds the sink area, jacuzzi style bathtub and then two enclosed units with the rainfall shower and toilet. The room also comes equipped with a docking station but be aware its connection is that for the older style iPhones(the wider chargers). Food and drink: You will not go hungry here nor will you be thirsty. I believe there are 5 buffet restaurants (one seems to be under refurbishment though) serving breakfast, lunch and dinner with a really wide and varied choice of foods. The desserts offered here also have seriously been far greater than I have seen in most all inclusive hotels and are of a real top quality (even sweets/candies were often available in large bowls). The a la Cartes I think there are 9 of (an extra 4 I believe if staying in TRS) and I'll quickly run through each one. La Lola: Spanish tapas, slightly confused when ordering, more our fault for not fully understanding. But I suggest probably ordering about 4 portions of hot tapas dish/es per person. Chang Thai: As the name suggests this is a Thai restaurant and one of the best I've eaten in ever. Very authentic starters/salads and curries. Just be warned if you not keen on spice the curries are very hot, the yellow one was meant to be cooler than the red (I tried both) but spice level almost indistinguishable from each other. El Dorado: Not much to say here, typical steakhouse restaurant with good quality cuts cooked as ordered which were tender and well seasoned. Recommend the cowboy 500g cut steak. Bahia e brasa: Brazilian style restaurant where a wide variety of meats are cooked on big skewers and carved up table side per person. Definitely worth a visit. La adelita: The Mexican restaurant we somehow didn't eat in so can't comment on quality. Ribs and more: Typical American style food serving burgers, ribs and steak. Not much to say other than well cooked and tasty. Portofino: Italian restaurant, food could be improved upon here, the gnocchi o had was good but pasta and pizza dishes not great. Sumptuori: The Japanese and teppanyaki restaurant, this is probably a must for most people to book the teppanyaki table(only one of two restaurants needed to book, a day in advance times mostly easily available) a great show cooking experience with a variety of proteins to choose from. Poseidon: The other restaurant you book, beach side fish cuisine, didn't visit here due to some in party not liking seafood that much. Facilities: The beach is huge and ,similar to around the pool, you will struggle to NOT find a bed, there are plenty around with lots of shade too. The beach is big but some parts are rocky and you are best suited heading near to the colonial/kantenah side of the resort for the best spot. Two large pools serve each side of the resort with many smaller pools spread in between including a kids splash pool with slides on the colonial side. Evening entertainment doesn't tend to bother me but they put on nightly shows around the colonial theatre as well as a few musical acts spread across the lobby and bars. Sports bar really good with lots of screens, a good food menu and nice bar service. Spa: Large spa with great facilities and an excellent massage, reasonably priced. Only two things is that just to use the general facilities is $35 which is way too much, especially when it used to be free, and still is for TRS. And the sauna is far to cold, I spent almost 20 mins in there and I think i started to sweat more when I stepped outside. Staff: All staff were incredible but like to mention a couple by name for being so great. Antonio was my housekeeper and the few times I saw him was always cheery but he did a fantastic job in the room including making incredibly intricate towel art pieces almost every day. Cieclo the bell boys we saw at colonial lobby was super helpful and friendly, we had a tour booked which arrived to pick some other guests up saying we hadn't been booked on properly, Thomson's fault later fixed the following day, but cieclo made sure he then looked after us trying his best to convince the tour to take us anyway and then personally drove is back to our room later on complete with a little tour of the grounds. All the other bell boys also are unsung heroes of this hotel as it's so big they really help make sure things run smoothly, without them there would likely be chaos. One last note that there was a large lagoon around the white sands lobby and pool which so unfortunately suffered from a cenote opening up a sink hole in it meaning the majority of the water drained out along with a lot marine life living in it. such a shame this natural event occurred but hopefully the best of the situation can be made from it.
