Good but not great

The 1st two days our ac didn’t work & they acted like we were crazy. Went to workers, front desk & Apple person!!! Guessing others complained bc on 3rd day they dug up the floor & was fixed. We were suppose to have 2 beds but only had 1 king which we let slide since ac wasn’t working!!! Then we had trouble just getting wash clothes & towels. Was told to come back later....but then entertainment was awesome!! The workers at the pool went above & beyond making all feel welcome!!!

The beach is AMAZING, and the resort itself has a number of pools that are all well maintained and have nice features like plenty of shade and hammocks. The adults pool was our favorite, since it did not have loud kids, had comfy chairs, and had daybeds as well. The food was the only downside, but you can only expect so much from an all inclusive. There was no local food whatsoever which was a bummer, and the buffets were mediocre. The only positive when it came to food was that the a la carte dinners were much better. Overall I would not do it again, but the positives of the resort and beach make up for the mediocre food. Check in was also a hassle, but all other aspects of the room were above expectations.

The first three days of my vacation were a wash. We booked and paid for a sea view jr suite at the grand palladium punta cana. We were given a no view room several buildings back from the beach facing a road. it was impossible to track down the on site apple rep I wasted three days trying to get it rectified and in the end I had to sign a waiver saying I wouldn't write a bad review for palladium to get my room changed to something remotely close to a sea view. I will tell everyone I know not to use apple and just to steer clear of the D.R. all together.

I see Expedia rating is 3.6 out of 5. About right. RESERVATION: We reserved 4 rooms, but two were allegedly unavailable in our price range, so we had to pay extra to get what we’d already paid for. ADEQUATE SUPPLY OF CHAIRS: There were plenty at the beach under umbrella trees, as well as at the pool. If you wanted a pool towel, you needed to get there before noon (or wait). BEACH: Atlantic with waves; no debris. TENNIS AVAILABILITY: Courts “for Club members only” are fine, but 3 courts for non-VIPs in poor shape: surface worn, parts peeing, fence too low, no lights. FOOD: Huge, but buffet food was often not hot. Restaurants closed without warning. They ran out of what should be staples, like passion fruit. Even fish cooked to order was tough. Coffee didn’t meet expectations, except in lobby bar. Overall, the food was mediocre. BARS: Plentiful ICE: Not always available. MINI-BAR: Re-stocked in morning, so if you sleep late, you may have to wait; fridges varied in temperature. NON-HARRASSMENT: Hotel rents space to vendors, and others prowl the beach, not to mention time-share and spa employees bothering people. Teen girls in our party detoured to avoid aggressive jewely salesmen. TV STATIONS: A large number in many languages, but not that many US. WI-FI: Spotty QUIET: The pools had the usual annoying music. Beach-goers could avoid noise. Rooms were especially quiet. STAFF: They seem to enjoy helping guests, though many don’t understand much English. CLEANING: Hotel offers a choice of cleaning times, but these aren’t honored. Some days we were cleaned in the morning, some we needed to ask the maid to do us next. GROUNDS: Nice like most resorts.. ROOM: Poorly designed. Impossible to turn on shower or Jacuzzi (in same unit) without climbing in. Rooms with 2 beds had frosted glass walls, so bathroom privacy impossible. TRANSPORTATION: A huge resort, with trams frequently circling. There are speed-bumps in their roads; what does this say about how their drives are supervised? (and they can trip you up at night) ELECTRICITY: Could shut off for short periods. WRISTBANDS: Required, apparently to keep guests out of the VIP area.. CASINO: We won on slots on our only visit I see Expedia rating is 3.6 out of 5. About right. RESERVATION: We reserved 4 rooms, but two were allegedly unavailable in our price range, so we had to pay extra to get what we’d already paid for. I was told there would be a rep at our hotel everyday... There was not. In fact, I only saw one, the day we got there. It was very disappointing. I had questions about excursions, but I was not ale to ask them due to no rep. I was told to look for the blue shirt with flowers, there was not an a rep present. I also feel like I should have been warned about the lack of people who spoke English. This would have been nice to know. Had I known that English was not valued here, I would have picked a different resort/destination. Over all my vacation was fine, the resort was very nice, the staff (even though they could not understand me) tried very hard to get me what we wanted. My disappointment is not with the resort, it's with Apple.

There was way too much trash around the pools, and the hotel. My room A.C. didn't work. Was moved to a second room... not better, but had a working fan. The beds were lumpy and rutted. The first room had a jacuzzi tub, with a shower head. The water goes EVERYWHERE in the bathroom, so having to mop up after a shower. The beach is small, it was never cleaned of similar trash left behind, nor cleaned of ocean "junk" after high tide. There were vendors onsite constantly pushing their trinkets. As well - the hotel vacation club kept trying to push us into a meeting where they would try to sell us a timeshare. When all you want is to be left to have a quiet vacation, this is an unacceptable annoyance. I will not go back to this place. I have friends who've stayed in other places not far from this location, with very different experiences.

The area we stayed in was new and it still has some things to work out. No instructions how tho work the TV, when the restaurants are available and where thou are allowed based on your booking status. The shuttle tuition us into the TSR pool and we were not supposed to be there and security was very rude. Quite a language barrier too. Beach was rough but speciality restaurants were great! Beds were nice but staff woke us up being loud in the halls. Got some work to do here!

Excellent Holiday!

My fiance and I visited here with two of our friends on October 17th for 2 weeks and we had a great time!! The Rooms: The rooms were incredible. They were spotlessly clean, the bed was massive and very comfy! The bathroom had a hydrotherapy bath which had a sliding frosted window on one side which opened out to the rest of the room which I thought was a nice touch. Two basins so plenty of room! And lots of bath and shower bits :) The cleaners left nice pretty flowers around our basins and the bathroom each day which was so nice! The Restaurants: There was so much choice when it came to restaurants!! Our top 3 ones....the Japanese, the Indian, and the Argentinian. The rest were also lovely but these were our favourites! Love the fact you don't have to book any of them except the Japanese. It meant we could just go to any we fancied that evening! A Special shout out to Jeffrey who was our waiter in the Indian Restaurant :) ! He was great and even taught us some of the local lingo! The Bars: Our ultimate favourite bar was the Hemingway! It's a cocktail bar and they definitely exceeded our expectations! They had branded spirits such as Grey Goose Vodka and Gins etc. which were all included within our All inclusive package! (we thought we may have to pay extra). There's plenty of other bars to drink at such as the lobby bars, but we spent most of our evenings in the Hemingway or the Sports bar :) The sports bar is 24 hours serving food and drink which is fantastic! We did go to the club one night which was fun! It turned into a 5am in the morning bedtime and we had a great time (not so great the next day...ha!) It started with a Pink party on the beach which was amazing! Fire breathers and a DJ playing, great vibe! The Pools: We spent literally all of our time in the Adult Only Secret Pool, nice and chilled but they also hold Foam parties a few times a week later on in the afternoon which is a lot of fun! The pool is actually open until midnight but it's probably a bit too cool to stay in it that long! The other pools looked lovely but none of us have children so we went for the more chilled one :) The Beach: The beach was really nice however there was lots of seaweed in the sea and it was the scratchy seaweed so I wasn't as keen to go in. There were always plenty of sun beds free and lots of room! Also loads of shade if you can't lay in the sun too long! They do helicopter rides and lots of boat trips so it was quite noisy from that point of view, nothing too annoying though it's still nice and relaxing! The Staff: Staff were all very friendly at this hotel! Even the security guards wandering around were helpful, I couldn't find my way back to my room once and looked a bit lost, instead of ignoring me the kind Security man asked if I was ok and pointed me in the right direction to my room block :) No complaints about any staff at all! Buffet Food: Such a wide variety of food at the buffet's! Breakfast, Lunch and dinner never disappointed. The buffets were massive so make sure you have a wander around it before you start putting food on your plate! Although it was large, the food was still of a very decent quality! The Resort: The resort is massive which might be quite daunting but there are plenty of buggies to pick you up and take you where you want to be, also a train that is always on the go! (Loved the train!) With it being so big it is more like a village which is lovely. Lots of shops spread out everywhere, loos are easily located and you're never far away from any of them, and the grounds are very well kept and pretty! Overall, we had a great time and would definitely recommend this hotel to others :) Will return one day!

11 years ago I visited the resort for my honeymoon. My husband and I loved it. Every time we returned to DR and stayed elsewhere we were left comparing our current resort to the Palladium. We always wanted to return, however the price was never right, until this year. Check in was good and quick. I was told since we were celebrating our anniversary something extra was in our room. Upon check in we were never asked about Travel Club or attending a breakfast. Bellboy took our bags and provided a ride to our room. Once in the room, nothing was waiting as advised by front desk. I called 5 times and emailed, with no response. The room was fine, aside from dirty sheets. I knew it would be impossible to communicate to change them since I wasn’t getting anywhere with my “gift” in my room. Yes, the shower is difficult to get into. I can see someone who has mobility issues having trouble. Buffet food was good. However, I do have to say the first morning we had crepes at the Bavaro buffet and it was the worst I have ever had. The rest of our time we ate at the Palace and the crepes were delicious. We also ate at the Indian Restaurant, food was good but warm/cold. I ordered samosas to find the middle cold. Moving on to service was hit and miss. I’ve come to learn this is the Dominican way and just learn to accept it. I’ve never had a problem asking for tea with milk until this time. Sometimes I had to ask 3 times to the man in a black coat for milk. Other times I went up myself to get it. A couple of times we were completely ignored. However, a hostess did ask us once why we were not going to grab food and we mentioned we wanted drinks and we have been sitting waiting for a waitress to take our order. She corrected that immediately. I do have to say we didn’t tip as much this trip. It wasn’t getting us anywhere with regards to the buffet and better service. Yes, you have to wait to be seated by the hostess which was new for us and yes it can cause a line up but it wasn’t an issue. Lobby bar. I cannot day enough good things. My husband and I always spend our nights at the bar. On our first night my hubby recognized a bartender. Sure enough it was Francisco, the same bartender we had the privilege of meeting 6 years ago at another resort we stayed at. We were thrilled to see him at the Palladium he is fantastic. Ana, she has some sass to her but she is deep down kindhearted and I will miss her. Vidal, he always kept the drinks coming, always entertaining. Never missed a beat. Last Jordi, that man has the most contagious laugh I have ever heard. He is hilarious. All the evening bartenders were great and we tipped them well. Hey, did it change how we were treated possibly, but don’t we all work a little harder when shown some appreciation. Palladium you have a fantastic team working the evening shift at the PC lobby bar and I hope you let them know it. I was somewhat worried coming here this time with all the negative reviews with being bothered by timeshare and on the beach. For the most part we were left alone. (We were bothered when entering the Bavaro lobby once). I will say, I did notice they profile who they ask. If you a family they were on you. My husband and I travel simple and with that, tend to be overlooked. On the beach we were asked once and they moved on. No different than any other time in the Dominican. Last but not least. Checkout. I was asked how everything was and voiced my frustration with asking 5 times for something to be done and not getting anywhere. The hotel always responds to reviews and encourages guest to ask for help when needed rather that write a negative review. To which I did 5 TIMES. The response I received was “ I dunno what happened? But, the next time you come everything will be perfect” My response to that is, it doesn’t work that way. If I had to be asked 5 times to do something at my job I am sure I would have been fired after the third. In Mexico, you ask and within 30 seconds someone is there to help. But heck that’s the DR for you. I should also mention if you are looking to spend time with fellow Canadians this resort may not be for you. We were the only couple from our plane to be taken to the Palladium which wasn’t the case years ago. This resort had a lot of German, Russian and Spanish. Canadians were hard to come by.

The Grand Palladium Punta Cana is a huge property but the staff is exceptionnaly friendly. The quality of the food is superior. The rooms are modern and very clean. Last night we went to the Japanese Restaurant and we had so much fun. our cooks Carlos and Luis and all the supporting cast : Noelia and Yosar made this experience very memorable. Thanks so much.
