The resort was very clean. I don't have any complaints on the food, but the earlier you get to the buffets, the better. The pools were beautiful & clean. The drinks were great! The room was always clean, the maids were always on top of making sure you had fresh towels. Only recommendation, has to do with how the place was constructed. The showers, Leak everywhere. We had to create a wall of towels around the shower/bath in order to not get our entire room flooded. Also, the doors to the rooms slam, very loudly. Which makes it difficult to sleep past 8am. The beach was also beautiful, I saw reviews before going of people complaining about the sea weed- there was some sea weed. But it's because of the side of the island the resort is located on, and they do try to keep it maintained. The language barrier was frustrating after a couple of days, very few people spoke fluent English. Ordering at the sit-down restaurants and asking specific questions was very difficult. Overall I would recommend this resort; giving it 4/5 stars overall.

This was our first experience booking with Apple Vacations and we were very pleased! There were apple representatives to greet us at our departing and arriving airport as well as at our resort to give us details about Punta Cana and excursion options. Grand Palladium was an excellent resort! We went as a couple, but this might be a resort you would pick to go with family or friends. There weren't too many people who were there just as couples. This isn't something that bothered us, but if it is something that would bother you then you may want to look into a different resort. The buffet's offered good quality food and had many different varieties. My boyfriend is very picky and he was very satisfied with the food options. If you want to eat at a restaurant be sure to get there early as they fill up quick! Make reservations for the japanese restaurant the day you arrive at the resort if you plan on eating there. We were disappointed when we were not able to make a reservation because it books up so quick and we had no idea. One complain I have is about the maid service. We wen't out for dinner one night and when we returned to our room at about 9:30 the room to our door was open. There was a maid inside of our room cleaning. To me this was definitely not ok since there was already a maid in our room earlier in the day to clean our room. I was a little thrown off by this. Also a few times in the morning a maid would knock on our door, barely gave us enough time to wake up, and would just walk in. After that we kept the top lock on our door so that wouldn't happen again. The maids should just be more courteous of people's privacy. The hotel staff and bar staff were excellent and very friendly, especially inside the sports bar. This resort is huge, so definitely plan some time to explore the resort and see all the different options they have to offer. We got lucky because our room was very close to one of the many pools as well as the beach. If you are looking for a fun place to stay that offers good food, excellent service, and a lot to do I would recommend staying here!

We had a roll a way bed in our room all week after asking 3 times to have it removed. Three of our four rooms had showers that leaked into the room. Phones that didn't work. Restaraunt reservations weee horrible, it was an all week thing. My husband couldn't wear a tank top to the buffet but I seen a woman in a thong with a see through cover up.

The property is beautiful, there was some construction going on but I appreciate the improvement. The Apple reps were great. The resort is big, that was good for our group. Plenty of room to explore and we were able to get rides most of the time. The rooms are nice, shower is poorly designed as I've read many say, but it was just an inconvenience, nothing major. Service can be spotty in the buffets but very good in the restaurants. It gets better after a few days when we became more familiar faces. We enjoyed the buffets with many things to choose from. The Steakhouse was our favorite restaurant. The beach is beautiful, clean white sand, clear blue water, the best I've seen. Overall a great trip, relaxing, no major problems to report, we would definitely go back!

Upon check in..the manager on duty wouldn't listen to me and I was trying to ask if an upgrade was available and what the price would be. There were 9 of us in our party and we arrived early so they weren't busy. As one of the rooms were not close to others we did ask for room change and a young lady did take care of that. But upgrade wasn't offered nor was I able to ask. He just wanted to hurry us off. The rooms were all good and we were please with the locations. However, I asked for specifics for my minifridge and even left a note in spanish to have only coca light, cerveza and agua. For 2 days still did not get my request. We finally caught the drink boy and explained to him what we wanted and he complied. However it was not on a daily basis. I was lucky if I even got one soda. Had to take from our other party's rooms. Rediculous for a simple request and I left him a tip which he gladly took on more than one occasion. Most of the staff is not friendly. We travel many times to resorts and I was appalled at how lax the staff is here. Pool service was horrible. No enthusiasm at all. We ordered from pool server (pina colada) not sure what we were given but def not a pina colada. No smiles just mopey all day. The bar staff was ok just depended on who was there. Ramon took care of us several times and was always friendly. The beach bar staff was the same. Just there no enthusiasm at all. The only place we ever felt wanted was the buffet..Nico was our morning waiter and he was always friendly and nice and so Mulena(Brazilian). The Brazilian steak house bar was amazing. Kelvin was exceptional. He went above and beyond for us so we went to see him every evening just to have some friendly service and drinks that were consistent. Mervyn, Freddie and Paul in Japanese restaurant were outstanding. They made us feel so welcomed and appreciated to be there. We loved being around them. They had wonderful personalities and always smiling. The rest of the staff could take notes from Kelvin, Paul Freddie and Mervyn. The mexican restaurant was very good. Horrible experience at the Italian. Service was extremely horrible as was the food. We ended up leaving. Couldn't eat the food. Couldn't even get our water filled. Upon leaving the blame was on the kitchen staff. No way was that the case other than the food be inedible. We took 7 people on this vacation that had never been to an all inclusive resort. Sad to say they may never go again due to the lack of service and bad food

We went as a group of 11 and from the very start the service was terrible. Starting from the airlines who lost one luggage and broke another. The transfer from the airport to the hotel was ridiculously long. We waited 2 hours on the bus. The resort was clean, beautiful and big which was great. The employees were not very friendly and at times very rude. The restaurant reservations was a joke, on average 1 hour wait. We even had a wait to get into a buffet. The beds were terrible, hard as a rock. The bathroom was very strangely done. We had a family of 3 and it made showering and going to the bathroom complicated because of the glass wall. Also the inside of the shower didn't have a door so it remained as a pool. The food was mediocre compared to other resorts we've stayed at. The best part of the trip was the beach. Punta Cana has great beaches and we love it there but this resort missed the mark.

We had asked for three rooms together on the ground floor and they were not able to accommodate either of those requests. Very confusing on making reservations at the restaurants they said you couldn't make reservations but if you had the hotel app you could make reservations. Very confusing. The thing we enjoyed was the high level of entertainment that was provided nightly with the two shows at the theatres. The staff was talented. We were impressed with the Pop group at the resort, especially Gasolina and Blue. They went above and beyond to accommodate the us at the shows both at the pool area and theatre area.

Stayed in room 6805 from 3/10/17 for 2 weeks ,beautiful hotel and gardens .Room clean credit to the maid. Waiting Staff came over as ignorant and only interested in American /Canadian who tipped for every thing I understand it is a poor country you tip when you get good service we didn't !!!. On my Birthday we didn't even get a drink with our meal we left .At breakfast we ordered coffee I got served .but then the Waitress spotted a Canadian family and went off and served them I had to ask her to come back . In the Lobby Bar we ordered two Coffees we waited ages only to discover he had gone too serve a American group who arrived after us . Bombarded by the Spa staff and People trying to sell you trips .Coming face to face with a very stern gent called Charlie who worked for Holiday Extras who wanted to know why we had not booked a trip to Santiago? !! The food a bit hit and miss the same menu for 2 weeks .No lids on the food flies and wasps around . Building work noise not really the Hotels fault as they had informed TUI at the beginning of it that it was going to happen and they let us know 3 weeks before departure . I must say Gustav the TUI Rep was brilliant and he sorted out the issues with the door lock which happened twice and the Safe which happened once and the issue with the Reception Staff who again didn't want to know . This was our fourth visit to this Country which we both love and saved hard to get back we will return ,but not too this hotel .

Our holiday to the grand palladium palace was absolutely amazing from start to finish. All the staff are so helpful and friendly and always at hand to help. There was such a huge variety of food to choose from and all the al le Carte restaurants are faultless. The room hand everything you needed and if you didn’t have something, staff were able to help. 100% would recommend this hotel and the area

We were supposed to stay at the Palace Resort, but because of remodeling we were "upgraded" to the Turquesa at no extra charge. If this was an upgrade, I would hate to see a downgrade!! The Turquesa is tucked away in the farthest corner of this huge resort complex with no restaurants within a reasonable walk for seniors. I should add that upon our arrival, 5 of the resort's restaurants were closed, two for remodeling and three because staff could not get there due to hurricane damage. Of the restaurants that were open, the main buffet was marginal, the oriental was OK, the Indian and Mexican were disgusting, but Le Chanterelle was excellent. The sports bar needs lots of help when it comes to switching out food that is on the "buffet". The high point of the trip was Carlos, our assigned butler who went way out of his way to make sure my wife's birthday was not forgotten and did several other little details for us. The two low points were the overly aggressive "concierge" (read club membership pusher), Andres, who would not let it go that we weren't interested. We finally relented and the 1 hour presentation became 3 1/2, and when we told the lady we were not interested, she turned from pleasant to rudely evil in a second. The other low point was a group of 12 from Louisiana and Texas who got belligerently drunk before dinner each day (blame "all-inclusive") with none of the staff paying any attention to the objections of the other guests until someone finally complained. Also to be noted: (1) we are both seniors and were put in a second floor room in a building without elevators; (2) the air conditioning in our room would run constantly, and when maintenance finally showed up, he told us where the "off" button was on the thermostat; (3) both ice makers on our floor were inoperable; (4) the trolleys that ferry guests around the resort give off sickening exhaust vapors.

My wife and I traveled to this resort the second week of October. Our experience was less than good, but better than bad. I've highlighted the main points below. The Good: This resort is connected to two/three other resorts, which allowed us to vary our experience the five days we were there. There are a lot of restaurants to choose from and several buffets. The food in the ala carte restaurants was enjoyable, but I'll reserve comments about the buffet food below in the next section. The grounds themselves are very beautiful and well maintained by the facility. There are people working non-stop to care for the fauna and keeping the place liter free. It was recently grazed by a hurricane and there were people working to repair the facility. Not a lot of damage, but great to see people working hard to repair the facility. The wait staff was usually friendly and helpful. Everyone was quick to help and take care of you. Even though tipping is not required, the staff is always motivated by the potential for an extra buck or two. I'll share more about the staff in the last section. The beach is beautiful, simply gorgeous. There are some beach vendors, but they are not too bad with their sell. Nobody is coming to take your drink order and I wish there were more bars open on the beach. Always friendly staff. The Bad: As in previous reviews, the amount of 'harassment' from vendors and staff trying to sell us something became very annoying. We learned how to avoid some of these people. One secret I'll share is to tell the vendors and sales people you've been there for five days and you're leaving tomorrow. Everyone is trying to arrange something for the following day or two. Once you drop this on them, they leave you alone pretty easy. Be careful of the Travel Club sell, it's not as bad as some time share sells that can last four hours, but they give you a decent compensation for your time. You decide if it's worth it for you. The room we stayed in was fairly nice, but our shower leaked...a lot. There is a Jacuzzi tub and a shower is part of it, but the shower walls don't prevent water from running ALL over the floor. We had to place extra towels around to soak up the water that ran out in multiple spots, serious slipping hazard. This explained the mildew smell when we walked in to the room the each day. The food. Oh the food. The first day we arrived we were impressed by the food selection and presentation. Very clean and organized. There were enough choices our first evening to make us very happy with our buffet meal. The buffet is the main/only choice for breakfast and lunch, it is an option for dinner, but the ala carte restaurants are open. That said, when we got up the next morning for breakfast we noticed that 90% of what was offered was the same food from the night before. They added an omelet station and more pastries, but the hot dishes were the same if not the exact same ones in the same dish. This pattern continued throughout the rest of the stay...every...single...day...every...single...buffet meal. At lunch they added a sandwich station and a grilled fish or sandwich option, but the hot food was the exact same...every...single...meal. So was the cold food section (cheese, cold meat, fruits and vegetables). By day five we were tired of the food. The 'alcoholic' drinks. Almost an oxymoron. There was one evening my wife had three drinks in a short amount of time and said, "I think I feel a little buzz". I've been to two all-inclusive resorts in Mexico and noticed the same thing. I thought they were watered down, and they may have been, but I think the 'alcohol' in the bottles contains such a small percentage of alcohol. We are not big drinkers by any stretch of the mind, but there was no effect from the alcohol in our drinks. The ugly. We wanted to order room service, but our phone didn't work. We reported that the phone didn't work twice and for three days nobody came to fix the phone. We had other issues we wanted to call the front desk about, but couldn't...because the phone didn't work. Any questions or issue we had required us to walk to the front desk. Our TV only had six channels that were broadcast in English and after two days we lost access to half of those. We reported that to the front desk, but nothing was done about that either. The Smile Service: This is my wife's issue, I wasn't bothered by it, but my wife was livid (she's a pretty relaxed and roll with the punches type of person). The vacation coincided with my birthday and she arranged for some things to take place through Smile Service. She contacted them a month ahead of our trip and twice while we were there. She was expecting some things to be delivered and some other niceties. Nothing happened. She contacted them again and didn't hear back. This pretty much was the last straw on a lackluster experience. We are not advocating people not go to the resort, but want people to know a little more about the experience. Some of these are the nature of all-inclusive resorts, some are a different type of experience from what we are use to, and others are unacceptable regardless of the location. We won't be going back here or to other Palladium resorts.

Good but not quite good enough!
Suzie C,
Fri Oct 13 08:48:58 EDT 2017
We have recently returned from 11 nights at The Palace. We had a great time but the resort was just not quite good enough for a number of reasons. My first gripe is the renovations. We were only notified of these one week before departure, which is unacceptable, but were assured that it would not impact our stay. Well it did - not massively but there are a number of parts of the hotel which are currently a building site and tarpaulins present on a number of the rooves. I told myself 'they've just come through a hurricane' but it became clear that some of this was old damage and general disrepair. It's not a luxury resort if half of it is closed off for renovation with trucks coming a going and the general noise of construction. I don't expect to hear cement mixers and angle grinders when I'm trying to relax on the beach. There was also a lot of closures to various bars and restaurants at various times - again not a major issue but not what we had hoped for and it often resulted in over crowding particularly at breakfast times. My second issue is the constant harassment inside the resort from people trying to sell you Travel Club/upgrades/tours/spa treatments (grossly overpriced) etc. It was constant, everywhere you went they pounced on you. Not relaxing in the slightest having to come up with new routes around the complex to avoid it. We even had them hassle us at our pool loungers whilst we were reading! It is unacceptable that a hotel allows this practice and I've never experienced it at any other resort I have stayed at. I felt there was little regard for the guests experience, and all they seem interested in is making more cash out of you. By all means have the desks there but let the guests come to you if they want and if they say no, don't keep trying every single day! The cleaners, although kept the place spotless, were very noisy and were in the corridors from 8am shouting and crashing and banging. Followed by the builders. We were staying in building 68. Disturbed lay ins every day! Another example of general disregard for their guests. The food, although plenty of choice and variety, was always lacking something. The buffet was generally luke warm often cold, and every Al a Carte meal was missing something listed in the menu description. The Indian and Tapas were the best of the restaurants and were a lovely dining experience and we also liked the sports bar food. The Steak house, however, was appalling - just a lump of fat and gristle on the plate! Inedible. We downloaded the hotel app and were one day alerted to an 'all you can eat' lobster grill - only 40 spaces so book now! When we went to the desk the lady had no idea about this surprise surprise, but advised we could book a lobster dinner with wine for $35 per person at a restaurant of our choice. So we booked a beachside table at the steak place. Guess what? When we arrived there was no table available and we were given the standard menu. I pointed out we had booked and paid for a lobster dinner and reserved a table by the sea and it had been arranged with the manager and that is what we expected. We got our lobster dinner in the end - it was beautiful and a very good portion for the price but again, not a straightforward or romantic experience. There are some good points. Most of the staff are friendly and helpful, but there are the odd ones who just expect a tip without offering any service in return. The bars are good with a wide variety of drinks and delicious cocktails. The beach is beautiful and the hotel overall is kept very clean. Free wi fi is always a bonus too! We also spent $10 to use the spa facilities one rainy morning - that place really is 5 star and a very relaxing experience using the hydrotherapy pools, saunas and steam room. Treatments very overpriced with some as much as $300!! Overall we made the best of our time - it was a great holiday and the resort was fine for our needs, but I just felt everything was a hassle here and intended to rip you off and extract more cash out of you. From the constant harassment, the generally sullen staff, and the overpriced services offered. We had already spent the best part of ÂŁ3K on this holiday and just expected a little better. The tariff should be reduced due to the renovations if you can't offer the full facilities. We've had better experiences in other Caribbean resorts, and as a result, would not stay at a Palladium resort in the future as our money goes further elsewhere. So it was good, but not good enough.
