I've waited a while to write this review because I have so much to say and really don't know where to start. We were recommended by a family friend and thought it was a good choice being that it was going to be our first time (as a family) in the Cancun/Playa del Carmen area. We did browse other places online, comparing prices vs. quality and amenities but we appreciate the person who recommended and decided to go to Grand Palladium Kantenah Resort & Spa. When you get there you feel mesmerized with the beautiful looks of their lobby area and the overall tropical ambiance. The person who received us in the front desk as very amicable and explained how everything works in the resort. It was a lot of information to digest but we grasp the most important things, and I believe that she was the only person that was courteous and friendly in the entire trip... Yes. The rest of the staff really did not show any sympathy or care about their guests, and I not only saw it with us but with other people (maybe a couple other people were nice to us, but can't remember). We actually had an incident the last night we were there, in which I accidentally broke a glass table top in the lobby and the manager the first thing he said was he was going to write a report and make me pay for it. Really? Yes, really, he didn't even ask if I was hurt or if I needed help, and no, I was not drunk, and didn't even have a sip of alcohol for hours and the table actually looked only shiny, but never noticed (in the 7 days we were there) that it was actually a glass on top of the table, because there wasn't even a sign. Maybe I'm asking too much and I'm used to how things work in the USA where everything is marked and with a warning sign. (NOTE: I am Venezuelan, I'm used to the "Latin American way") Now, let's talk about the food. Breakfast was very, very good. The buffet had many options, from the healthiest to the not so much... But then, lunch and dinner were not so much of a big thing. I think dinner needs to be improved a lot of notches up in their à la carte restaurants because really the Brazilian, didn't taste Brazilian; the Spanish restaurant had nothing to do with Spanish cuisine, the Italian food was a bit better, but nothing to die for. We didn't have a chance to go to other à la carte, but I think I didn't miss out on much. Their rooms are really average not to say less, they're not as big as you could imagine. I did like the balcony, though. Their pool area (in the Kantenah side) was just ok. The bar inside the pool could use some extra cleaning. Their cocktails are just bottle pre made mixes with alcohol. The beach area is very pretty, you can actually snorkel and see lots of fish and marine life. They have a kids club that looks cool but our kids didn't wanna go. This property is a 3-in-1 Resort and you can walk around or go to their other properties with their mini shuttles. The facilities are beautiful on the outside, great views and nature contact, but I do think they need to improve a lot in their customer service and kitchen. Not sure if it's a hotel problem or the entire area is like that because of they over saturation of tourism. We'll have to go back and try another hotel! I know I might have forgotten a few more things that I initially wanted to say, but I guess this is it.

Returning Soon!

We just booked our trip to Palladium for the 2nd year in a row! Last year when we went, we had nothing but GREATNESS! We are looking forward to returning this March for another amazing experience. We contemplated going to a different resort, but then questioned why would we after we had no issues at Palladium. We arrived and got upgraded right away and had the most amazing first time in Mexico! We can't wait to see you all at the end of March and are hoping for the great same experience!! :)

Beautiful Hotel but Expectations not Met.

We arrived on Christmas Eve and had an easy check in. We were offered a drink and were quickly taken to our room. We booked the Mayan Suite and it was beautiful! It was a little smaller than I expected and in the Kantenah Resort, they are in an 8 plex of suites. The room was clean, cool, and well maintained. The outdoor shower was wonderful! We rarely heard the people in the rooms around us and had limited issues with noise from the resort beside us (mostly music during the day). The room was right on the beach and really was the star of our stay. The food on the night of our arrival was amazing! We went to one of the buffets and they went all out with lobster, leg of beef, leg of lamb, the whole deal! We were a bit disappointed to find that the food was not like this every night. The food was okay at the buffets for the rest of our stay but repetitive and the same at all the different buffet restaurants. It was good with lots of options, but nothing to write home about. The a la carte restaurants are the real stars! The food was great and we found the waitstaff to be wonderful! We especially enjoyed the Thai restaurant. Booking a table was easy for our group of 2 and we walked right in when it opened, even without a reservation. We also used room service, which was included. It was fast, tasted good, and allowed us to enjoy the beach from our hammock when eating lunch. We have rated the service as poor due to an issue described later in this review. The service with the bartenders, waitstaff, and housekeeping was very good. They are the reasons that we did not rate the service as terrible as they worked hard and were very polite and engaging. We tipped well to show our appreciation which only helped improve our experience. The beach was beautiful! It was pretty clean, had wonderful fine, white sand, and the water was clear. There is a little reef closer to the White Sands Resort where you can see a large variety of fish. There are also areas with kelp along the whole beach where you can enjoy the marine life too. The bars and bathrooms were clean and the drinks made quickly. The hotel offers currency exchange but they run out of small bills (50s and 20s) very quickly so make sure you check with them early if you need those bills. Better yet, make sure you have more than you think you will need when you get there! It was recommended to us by the WestJet representative to tip bartenders a 20, a 50 for meals, the maid a 20 or 50 daily or to give about $10USD at the end of the visit, and a 20 to a driver within the resort. Unfortunately, our honeymoon was not all sunshine and roses. There were hidden exclusives at the hotel for members of the TravelClub and the TRS resort. We understand that those clubs should have exclusives but they were never labelled and this lead to negative interactions ("No, you can't have that. That's TRS only."). There were areas on the opposite end of the resort from the TRS resort that were exclusive only for them but had no signs to tell you that. Only after you had settled in did someone come and tell you that you had to leave. No sorry, just a, "You can't be here. This is an exclusive area." There are also exclusive shuttles that would completely ignore you if you were not part of those clubs and drive off empty. This would not have been much of a problem, except that the shuttles for non-club members were few and far between in our experience or would only want to go between the resorts instead of to the villas. We were also refused rides to our villa by transports that were not exclusive and were not offered an explanation. When they say that transportation to the villas is included, it makes it really frustrating to not be able to get transportation. This happened consistently throughout the week we were there. We also received misinformation at check-in about the hours that amenities were open. We were told that the bar near our room was 24 hours and were disappointed to find out that it was not. It was not that big of a deal but it is something to be aware of. Double check what is open and when! For the shows and restaurants, there were multiple start times posted in different areas (example: The app said 10:00, one poster said 9:30, the front desk said 9:00) and this made it tough to plan our day. Again, a small issue but still a little frustrating. Finally, we left to go to an evening show halfway through our stay (late, around 9:00pm) and came back to a letter in our door. The letter reads, "Dear guest, You have been chosen to enjoy in courtesy, the last nights of your stay in our new concept TRS Hotels. If you are interested, please confirm at reception before noon." When we went to reception before noon the next day (about 10:30am), we were told that there were no rooms left, it was first come, first serve and that we were out of luck. We politely explained that this was frustrating as the letter does not say that it is first come, first serve and we followed the directions, but the response was to say that they would put us on the wait list. When we tried to plead our case, we were offered a free beach bag (free to everyone that talks to the members club representative) and a tour of the areas that we would not be allowed to use without the upgrade. This happened in the middle of our vacation and really overshadowed the rest of the trip. No where did it say that it is first come, first serve or we would have gone to reception when we found the letter. The customer service was appalling considering that they offered us an upgrade and did not carry through, then did nothing to compensate. In hopes of reaching a compromise as they said they had no rooms, we mentioned that we would be okay with staying in our existing room if we were allowed to use the facilities that are included in the upgrade but were told no. The attitude of the people we spoke to at reception and with the Palladium Travel Club was very dismissive and we felt that our concerns and frustrations were brushed off. We also completed the survey that the resort has in their lobbies and were never contacted. This survey was completed the day after the upgrade issue in hopes that the resort would reach out to us before our stay was over (completed on the Thursday, we left on the Sunday). It has now been 2 weeks since we returned from our trip, 2 1/2 weeks since the survey was filled out, and we have not heard anything. Our room was beautiful and the beach was clean, but our experience was marred by poor customer service. This resort is supposed to be a 5 star resort but we found it to be severely lacking. It may have lots of amenities but they were mediocre or unsatisfactory in quality. As a 5 star resort, they should have customer service to reflect that rating. Had our experience with customer service been more positive (example: an offer of a complementary service in place of the upgrade), we would have no problems returning to the resort in the future. Unfortunately, it was not and we do not feel confident returning to the resort or recommending this resort to other people.

Went for a week stay with the family right after Christmas. Rooms: our room was great, clean and great working shower. Patio was nice to sit on and have a coffee in the morning. Hair drier in the bathroom is just as good as the one from home, no need to bring one. The best part is 1 litre water bottles, 4 at a time were left. This is great since I drink 3-4 litres a day and I didn't have to track down water from the hotel bars. Also I drank water at the restaurants and bars, no need to worry it's safe to drink. Lobby: We were close to the cantina lobby. Great to have a early morning coffee in the sun or have a night cap listening to the live bands that play each night. Also the sports bar in this lobby is awesome, great bar food and the bar tenders are quick and great to chat with. At 6pm the have popcorn, fires, and pizza to munch on while you watch football, or play pool. Only complaint is that world juniors were on and I couldn't watch the boys play...this really sucked, I'm Canadian and there's a duty to watch the game. Haha. If you're going to have a sports bar have all the sports channels. Food/ restaurant and bar: This resort has a great selection of restaurants and the food is great and lots to chose from. The line for breakfast seems long, but you're waiting about 10mins some mornings to be seated, which is reasonable. The dessert at the buffet is great, and you can get ice cream from the pool bar restaurant. The only thing is the straws, if you need one make sure to ask. Sports area: There is a huge sports area, two fields to play soccer, throw a baseball or football. Basketball courts, volleyball nets, badminton nets, mini golf, Shuffle board and tennis courts. My fiancé and I had a blast in this area. Gym: You can find the gym and yoga studio in the spa. The gym is nice, the ac could be turned on more. But it's good for an early morning run or bike. I wish I did a yoga class but they only offer them at 10am and 5pm which I find not good times. 10am is eating up beach and sun time. Spa: The spa is amazing! I had the zentopia massage. I felt so relaxed my therapist was great!! I went 40min early and spent my time in the sauna, steam room and this amazing pool with water running to drown out all sounds. The greeted me with a warm robe and nice warm neck pillow and took me to a relaxation room to wait for my therapist. He explained everything and had excellent pressure. My 80min massage ended with a mimosa. I've had some terrible massage experiences at other resorts but this one was excellent. Pool: okay good thing there is a kids area, a separate pool with slides for them, because the main pool is 5'3 deep...I'm 5'3...I love swimming but when you go to the swim up bar you have no choice but to stay there or hang onto a taller family member to make it anywhere with your drink. What I would suggest is for the resort to invest in drink floaters or for you to bring one from the dollar store with you. I saw someone with them and I was jealous. Resort bathrooms: bathrooms were always clean and stocked. They also have shower rooms in the lobby so when you checkout if you have a few hours to wait till you need to get to the airport, feel free to hit the beach and shower off and change into clean clothes before hitting the shuttle to the airport. Beach: beautiful and lots of activities to do. The beach bars and 24 hour restaurant is great. I would recommend going on the Segway tour, I was very hesitant at first but I had a blast! They're so fun! Downside: The resort is big and took some time getting used to finding things. But there are side roads for golf carts to drive on to get you from point A to B but sometimes you need to walk on these roads to get to places too, and there were full size trucks ripping down them very quickly which I found unsafe. Upside: they have resort cats here, they are super friendly and love a few pets and ice cream.

Family Holiday Gone Good

We were recently on a family holiday to the Grand Palladium Kantenah for a week in early January. There were 16 of us in total, 2 infants, 2 children, 12 adults. We stayed in villa 47 which was absolutely perfect. It was near a small swimming pool that was a bit warmer which was perfect for the kids. The pools themselves are quite deep, over 5 feet which was a negative for all of us. The kids pools with slides was a bit chilly but that didn't stop the kids. There are smaller slides for the younger children and bigger slides for the older ones. It is also right beside the main pool so you still feel part of the resort and are not segregated like at other resorts. The main pool again is a bit on the cooler side and is deep, over 5 feet. The buffets were your standard buffets. The beach bar was 24 hours which was nice, there is always something to eat and when it is late you order it so it is fresh and hasn't been sitting in the warmer for hours. The a la cartes are unlimited but there are no reservations, it is all first come first serve which can create a long wait. There is an app that they say you can reserve but no one in our group could make a reservation on it so I wouldn't depend on that. We went to the Steakhouse, Brazilian, and Ribs N More. All were quite good. There are great options for kids and adults at the buffets and a la cartes. The main pool, buffet and beach bar are also part of Grand Palladium Colonial so reviews of that resort would be similar. The theater is at the Colonial so if you are at Kantenah it is a bit of a walk but we all did it with kids so its not a problem. There is a shuttle that takes you to the Colonial lobby if you would rather. The Colonial is a bit of a fancier resort but very similar. We also visited Whitesands for a day. This resort seemed very empty. We had the pool all to ourselves. The temperature was the same but this pool isn't quite as deep, only about 4 feet. The pontoon boat was not running when we were there as the water level was too low. This resort just didn't feel as inviting and it was kind of eerie with how quiet and vacant it was. However, the service was still great. There is free wi-fi offered throughout the resort. Although this is nice and can be handy, it can take away from some of your holiday. Try to leave the electronics behind and enjoy yourselves. We seen people all over just surfing the internet and not relaxing and enjoying themselves. Overall, this resort was great. The villa you do stay in could affect the outcome of your trip. Everyone on this trip had a great time and there is something for everyone of all ages.
