Completely understand construction and horrible customer service
OSCAR S.
Oct 15 2017
We booked our stay here due to the highly advertised children's activities and pool. We arrived and the entire children's pool and amenities were closed. We were then told the information was on the website however they couldn't find it nor could I after searching. The next day someone finally found a hidden disclosure that the area would be under construction until 10/15 but we got back 10/11 and there is no way it will be completed within months. A good 30% of the resort is under construction including the Brazilian and japanese restaurants. At night you need to walk past all the dark covered construction areas which are poorly lit and made us nervous for our safety. When we complained to the management about the kids closures and the lack of transparency they said the only thing they would give us was an apology. They were rude and completely dismissive. We have been on numerous all inclusives and the management at this hotel is the worst we have ever encountered.

We were bombarded with solicitors starting with check in! We were greeted with drinks & cold towels, which was nice, but then it started with them hounding us to join their travel club. Solicitors rent space there & are extremely pushy! Room was ok but we called the front desk 3 times about running out of toilet paper & water. We had to hunt it down ourselves. The entertainment staff were all amazing.

Unsatified with my stay

Aug 13 2017
I was very unhappy with my stay. The check in process was horrible it took an approx 2 hrs for me to check in after waiting for over 30 mins and no one would assist me. We were told that they have a BBQ for apple guest which they never had and we were unable to make reservation at an restaurants. The communication from the hotel staff was horrible. 93% off the staff was rude. I called numerous times to get my fridge refilled and for extra blankets and towels never received. My son dropped a bottle in the balcony and broke called for service 3 times and finally someone came but left half of the broken bottle so we didn't use the balcony the rest of our stay. We had a leak in our room over my sons bed we called complained no one ever showed up. I have a video of it. Booked an excursion and the representative gave me wrong prices. Not a good experience with hotel. Btw it wasn't a language barrier because I speak Spanish.

The hotel room was below average. The first room we got smelled like mold. We were moved to another, which smelled a little better. The facility is old and is in need of updates. The beds weren't comfortable and the pull out sofa was a joke. My kids couldn't even sleep on it so all 6 of us squished in two beds. The staff was nice and pleasant, but too many people pushing to constantly sell you stuff. I think this hotel had a 5 star apple rating. At most I would give it two star. Beaches were nice though and the restaurants that you book reservations for were good. We all liked the Spanish, Japanese, and Italian.

Place was beautiful and beach was amazing unfortunately my entire family (5 ofus) got sock with a stomach bug. Not sure if it was caused by the ice or food at one of the restaurants.

My biggest complaints were the beds in the rooms are too small. Two adults cannot sleep comfortably in a double bed. Queen sized beds are a must. The pull out sofa is a joke. Only people 4' tall can fit otherwise your legs hang off the bottom. It's more like a futon than a pull out sofa. The waitstaff at the buffets needs serious improvement. It takes multiple requests for beverages/coffee before anyone comes to the table. You're not allowed to get up and go get your own coffee or water. Most tables of four are set for only two people so there is never enough silverware, napkins, glasses, ect for a family of four. Dirty tables are rarely cleared so you can't find a clean table to sit at. The buffet restaurants need a lot of work in general.

Food so bad you wouldn't want to stay here

Yes, the beach is stunning and the drinks are strong. But you can get that at countless resorts. The food was so poor that we would not return. Everyone we met at our hotel had the same opinion of the food. We even met a couple who left the resort for restaurants in town since the food was so lacking. The only good meal was at Sumptuori but we ended up with food poisoning that ruined our last three days. So frustrating! Now to the Amstar service. A nice bus takes you from the airport to the resort. You get tips and are told a designated time to meet your Amstar rep to get your shuttle departure time. This actually ends up being a sales pitch for excursions and after the meeting they make you come back again to get your departure pick up time. We did want a short excursion and Luis told us the Scape Park with two activities would keep us away for about 4 1/2 hours. Well, that trip kept us away for 8 1/2 hours where three of those hours were spent on the bus picking up and dropping off passengers. The downtime continued before, during, and after each event at the Scape Park. This was a definite disappointment that we would not recommend. Too much downtime, so much longer than told and it was just a crowded tourist trap.

calender of events

the resort did not hand you a schedule of events nor did they tell you where you could find it. It was is the middle of the week until we located the schedule which was not even near the lobby. Also the front desk did not even tell us there was an ice machine in our villa area. The front desk seemed very overwhelmed and uninformed.

Brilliant holiday

Just sat in our fantastic room on our last night after 14 fantastic days. Our room in bavero is lovely with so much space and a fantastic jacuzzi bath. The area is stunning with beautiful manicured gardens. The restaurants are great and there is a varied choice of food. The staff are so happy and friendly especially when you say please and thank you. Manners cost nothing. The beach was beautiful up o the last day when masses of seaweed got washed up. Nothing to do with the hotel though. Loved the pools especially the adults only pool. The hotel had todo repairs to some of the buildings due to the hurricanes but this did t distract from our holiday. All 4 of us have said that we would love to return here.

*** 3.5 Stars *** The Grand Palladium Bavaro is a beautiful resort, though I agree with some other reviewers that it's beginning to show its age. We travelled here for our honeymoon as a relaxing beach vacation for a great price, and that's definitely what we got. We booked the "romance suite" and our room was lovely -- right by the beach with a patio and a private outdoor shower. The staff was incredibly friendly, though the language barrier was difficult at times, especially when we'd try to find out information (for example, asking longer/more complicated questions, like when and where something was taking place). The people trying to sell the "travel club" packages were also a bit much -- very persistent, and after talking to other vacationers, we found out their pitch could last 2-3 hours. We were approached as soon as we checked in to book this meeting, but cancelled as soon as we learned more and weren't asked about it again. The beaches were beautiful, but a bit crowded with vendors (not tied to the resort) selling jewelry, excursions, cigars, etc. If you just say "no, thank you," they'll usually stop bothering you! Same goes for the pools -- beautiful! Our favorites were the "secret adult pool" and the spa pool. Very well kept, and the swim up bars were all delicious. My only complaint -- and it's kind of a big one -- was the food. It was not up to the standards that we expect in the US, and to a certain degree, that's understandable. However, finding chicken bones in chicken pad thai is unappetizing. Ordering a chicken caesar panini and getting bread, chicken, peppers, and spicy mayo back is baffling (not even any lettuce!). My husband ordered the chicken with mole sauce at the Mexican restaurant, and it was basically chicken with chocolate sauce. I could go on, but I'll spare you the details! We figured out early on that the buffets offered a better selection, and you can also see what you're getting, so we had better luck there. I don't know if the food would deter me from recommending this resort, but I honestly think we'd have rave reviews of this place if it was at least a little better. Nonetheless, it was a beautiful place for an unbeatable price, and we had a relaxing week away -- just what we wanted!

It was our 25th wedding anniversary the hotel had a cake for us and some wine and took pictures in we were told that they would send copies of the pictures to us and we are 4 months later and not gotten anything and when we email them we don't hear anything back communication is not good. Communication is not big for this Resort

Beautiful resort. Starting to show its age. Very attentive staff. Daniel is the best bellboy ever. Special thanx to Denise our lobby bartender. Need to have a more easily accessible activity schedule. Scheduling dinner reservations was nearly impossible. Need to mix up the music at the pool. Need more America music. Way too many people trying to sell things. Totally annoying. All in all great trip. Likely will book elewhere for our next vacation.
