Nice, but....

Traveled with family, six all together, and two rooms. We are travel club members. Two rooms across the hall on first floor good location. My husband and I had the room that the air conditioner was not working properly, just blew warm air. We complained four days in a row, no one seemed to care. A maintenance man came on second day and wiped off the ceiling and floor, but that was it. Very humid and smelled musty our whole stay! Other than that we had s good trip, food was good, beaches were gorgeous, some friendly staff. Bus boys were excellent and also drivers were excellent. The vendors that are on the resort selling jewelry and souvenirs were extremely pushy, would not take no for an answer, putting jewelry on you as you walk by, we did purchase, but still pushy every day, finally they took no, after we said we already gave them alot of money, then they were fine! Excellent waiters, Edwin especially!! We prefer Riviera Mya over Punta Cana. The air conditioner really spoiled our trip, otherwise I wouldn't have anything bad to say! Also beware of flying into Punta Cana airport if you are from US, they ask for $10 per person as they take your passports, but they won't tell you why. We found out later it is a government tax. Grand Palladium Bavaro is Spanish owned, extremely large resort nestled along resort row on the north/Atlantic side (Bavaro) of Punta Cana. The resort is actually three resorts combined into one. Most of the restaurants and amenities are shared by all three resorts. There are 6-7 restaurants, and bars littered throughout the resorts. There are 2-3 restaurant within a 5 minute walk of your room no matter which resort you choose. The complex also includes a casino and spa/fitness center. The restaurants are all average, but the food is marginal. We enjoyed the Chinese and Spanish restaurant, which was above average. The Hemingway Bar serves top shelf alcohol and was our favorite place to relax after dinner. We stayed in the romance suite, which was large and well appointed. Our toilet water ran continuously the 1st night, which took 4 hours and multiple requests to just to get the water to stop running. They had to remove tiles to access the toiled reservoir and plunger, so it was not fully repaired until mid-morning the next day. In addition, a electrical outlet was hanging out of the wall. The beaches are great, with warm water, great sand, and light waves. There are bars every 100-200 meters, and there are plenty of beach chairs with shade-no matter the time of day. I ran along the beach by 4-5 other resorts, and Grand Palladium had the best beaches. There are salesmen that roam the beaches peddling cigars, hats, sunglasses, and wood carvings. We negotiated and got pretty decent deals. We also stopped by some shops that line the beach east of the resort. The service at the resort was average. The resort employees speak limited English, so some basic knowledge of Spanish words help (coffee with cream, water, beer, food, etc.). I did not encounter anyone that was rude, but some waitresses were coarse. If you have an issue, the employees will tell you "it will be fixed in 10 minutes". Every 5 minutes equated to 1 hour. When our tour company representative scheduled our return bus to the airport for the wrong day, the hotel front desk told me "On time in the Dominican Republic is 15 minutes late". Since the resort is owned by a Spanish company, there are lots of tourist from Europe and Latin America. It was great to talk with them at night over drinks. We got massages at the spa. The spa is well appointed and clean, and our massages were great. In conclusion, the resort was a great place to relax, but remember, everyone is relaxing. If you expect service to be prompt and responsive, with top end restaurants, this is probably the wrong place to stay. If you are ok with waiting on food service, relaxing on great beaches, and generally not in a rush, and don't mind mixing with other nationalities, the resort is a great value. Advice: Don't be afraid to negotiate anything, even on the resort. We received a 50% discount on our massages. Get to the beach in the morning or late afternoon as it is not as crowded. Don't let a la carte restaurants dictate your "beach hours". The best restaurant had no line. More>

Not what I expected

Royal Suites Turquesa is not what I would call “Adult Only”. I did not expect to see children at any time during our stay. Fortunately before our trip I read the reviews; advising us to make reservation; which I’m glad we did. There were a lot of unhappy guest who had to wait at least 2 hrs. to dine. We stayed in room 5530; the furniture needs to be changed. The window shades in our room did not work; the sleeper sofa did not insert properly; so we had to make sure not to trip over it. Our room was cleaned daily but could only get one washcloth per day; never was our sheets changed ??? The buffet food was not good. Room service was no better and very slow. By our second day both my husband and I was sick. And no it was not the “spirits” Overall the staff members were not friendly unless you were tipping every time they brought your water, soda etc. The server on the beach was hard to find; she would say she would be back but never did. The resort is huge; there’s a lot of walking. The golf cart drivers could be seen every ten minutes but a lot of times they would not stop. I was tired of being harassed to purchase additional excursions, spas or sign up for their club. This was our first and last time staying at Royal Suites Turquesa. I would not say it's a 4 or 5 star quality . More>

Great relaxing vacation. Beautiful grounds. Relaxed with the family, from grandfather to a toddler, service treated us well. Julio from guest service helped grandfather with transportation and us with other services. A few minor repairs with the rooms. But once you report it, they are helpful. Overall great vacation spot. As always, I do not like to start a review with a negative comment. With that being said, let me point out the positive aspects before I give the bad. Pros: This compound is gorgeous. I say compound because there is a total of four resorts that comprise the Punta Cana Grand Palladium Resort. The rooms are well appointed with all the features you could expect from what they say is a 5 star resort. Around the pool and on the beach there is plenty of lounge chairs and shaded huts to enjoy and take in the scenery. There are plenty of restaurants with a large variety to choose from. That sums up the positive portion of this review. Cons: The staff, I have taken probability and statistics so when I say 65% of the staff is rude and condescending if you do not speak Spanish, it is a pretty accurate statement. Lets start with the concierge, I had an issue with my television, I called the front desk and they told me that someone would be right up to take care of it. An hour later I was still waiting. I walked to the lobby to see what was taking so long. I guy was on the phone and never acknowledged me. I wait 30 minutes before one of the 5 people behind the desk asked if they could help me. My house keeper was rude and did not address any of my wife or my concerns. We arrived on a Friday and did not have any wash clothes in the room. We call up to the front desk about the problem. It took 2 days for them to bring us wash clothes. Two days later we ask her for clean wash clothes. She did not bring them until the night before we were leaving. The restaurant staff took their time getting anything you asked for. I asked for hotdogs at the beach restaurant for my wife and I. the guy put on hotdog on the grill. when I asked him to put one on for my wife he gave me the uncooked hotdog and started talking about us in Spanish with the other cooks. I know this because our friend speaks Spanish and she told us that they were talking negatively about us. At the buffet, my Sister in law asked for a cup of coffee. The waiter walked away from our table again speaking negatively about us. He proceeded to clear a few tables and take the dirty dishes to the back before getting my sister in law her coffee. We had other encounters with the rude restaurant staff, but there are other areas of concern here. The entertainment seemed unrehearsed and at times was boring. The drinks were only good at the Lobby Bar. Not all bars could make the same drink. If you had a drink you liked, you had to good back to the bar you got it from. There is more, but I think this is enough for one review. More>
