The Good, Bad, and Ugly

I just got back from the GP Bavaro with my mom. Please note, my aunt stayed at the Palace and she did not experience any issues. Also note: I have time stamps from posting photos/videos on my Snapchat. The Bad: Arrived 6/8 around 3:45. Greeted by Melinna. We loved her in the beginning however we soon learned how much of a liar she is. I purchased the Master Junior Suite from the hotel directly. Melinna explains that we have been offered a "FREE upgrade" to a luxury room however it's going to take about 20 mins to be ready. She suggest we grab a bite from the Sports Bar. We do. We spend about 30 mins at the Sports Bar where the food was good to me. We come back and Melinna presents us with room keys and states it's going to be 10 more minutes. Something about a light fixture. We agree as we were just excited to be receiving the upgrade. Melinna comes back AGAIN and switches out the room key and state two more minutes. At this time, we just want to get to the room. She finally comes back and send us with a bell boy. He takes us to the room. The time is now 5:21 PM. We arrive at the room and it is a MASTER JUNIOR SUITE not the LUXURY we were promised. Of course, we are pissed by this and proceed to go back to Melinna with our luggage. Melinna is gone to the back. Now we are telling the entire story to FRANSICO and YAMEL who are very pleasant and attempts to compensate us by offering us a JUNIOR SUITE DELUXE. We decline as this was not what was promised. They acted as if they were doing us a favor by offering that room as if we were not promised a luxury suite. After going back and forth, they finally agreed to give us the luxury room however they only need me to sign for it. Jhoenmy from Guest Services provides me with the paper that stated that the hotel does not take responsibility and I could not post my review on any social media. I declined and advise I would not sign this paper. Jhoenmy states he's trying to help and Melinna was doing her best. I sternly disagreed and asked for HIS manager. After asking over 5 times, FRANKLIN the Room Division Manager (gte de habitaciones) finally came out and resolved the issue by having us view two luxury rooms and picking one. Mind you, they told us the luxury rooms were not available. #liars We finally got to the room at 7:21 PM. The luxury room was gorgeous! Terrace with Jacuzzi! Just lovely! This brings me to the GOOD: The beach was beautiful and there were plenty of chairs. You had to come out early to reserve though. There were many pools on the resorts which was nice. We received reservations from FRANKLIN for the Italian and Mexican restaurant. We enjoyed both and I loved the buffets every breakfast/lunch. The transportation was good if you were riding with our favorite LUIS, he's great. They sometimes ride right past you however it wasn't a big deal. As previously mentioned the room was great, the view was a construction site however that didn't bother us. It's a lot of walking as the resort is huge however that helped me keep the weight off. The UGLY: On our last night, we went to dinner at the Mexican Restaurant (La Adelita) and decided to come back to hit the adult pool that closes at midnight. (all other pools close at 7pm) We get back to the room and we're there for about 30 minutes. The time is now around 9pm. There is a knock at the door so my mom proceeds to get up and walk towards the door. She turns around to get her glasses and at this point it's as if someone is pulling on the door extremely hard. My mom heard the door open however we had the chain on the door. THANK GOD! We both get to the door and my mom sees it's a housekeeping lady dressed in a black dress. (mind you our housekeepers wear PINK) She has towels in her hand asking if we need housekeeping. We say no thank you and she proceeds to motion as if she needs to come in. My mom let's her in and I peek out the door. There is a tall guy with a white polo and a walkie talkie radio leaning on the wall. He smiles and says Hola. I close the door. The "housekeeper" asks again. My mom shows her the towels and she leaves. Me, now paranoid keeps looking out the peephole and I see the "housekeeper" kiss the guy in the white polo and she walks away. He stays there for about 5 minutes and another guy in a polo walks up to him with a small blue bag. They hang around for a minute and walk away. For the rest of the night, we kept hearing doors being pulled on. We decided to stay in for the night. We thought about it and believed that this girl works on the resort somewhere. She and the two guys go to guest rooms who are on their last night because of course you don't want to spend it in the room. They probably go through your stuff and take what they want. You don't think nothing of it because you get in late and fly out the next day. I probably won't return to DR again however if I do, trust and believe I will not stay here at the GP Bavaro nor the other resorts. Be safe out there!

Had such a great time last year we had to bring our adult kids to experience what we did. We reserved the same exact room as the year prior the exact. When they showed us our room they said they had a big group coming in and couldn't move us. We had 7 people. The room was ok except one room the sewer ran up into the shower while my guest was taking a shower. I had 2 groups the girls the second room was the boys. They really felt uncomfortable going to the bathroom and taking a shower with others in the room with others watching you. Make sure you get the room you reserve not sure how you would know. Until you get here. Then it still doesn't matter you will have to take room anyway. Basically staff, bartenders, drivers, all employees were off the chart perfect and accommodating The front desk and management was not good. So disappointing... Also, wouldn't count on 3 people per room The couch was urinated on. When asked to exchange it They said yes but it never happened. After 3 stops at desk I could go on and on about small things wrong in the room. Hair dryer, Tv refrigerator etc. we had 3 rooms to get what we needed to use. Food is just average you won't go hungry. Be prepared to eAt dinner late. We went to the Punta Cana side for dinner and it was night and day on attitudes. The Bavaro side much much nicer and not grumpy. Be prepared. We leave Friday. I would come back but only on a special deal. Not worth trying to communicate and dealing with little to know help on issues on if you don't need front desk you will have a fabulous vacation otherwise no need to get upset just get a drink maybe 10.

if you want to get robbed... this is the place to go!

I recently just returned from my trip and it was absolutely dreadful. For starters, this was rated 5 apples which it was definitely not. When we first arrived we were greeted with a drink as it said we would be however we were told our room wasn’t ready and that we would need To wait 5 minutes, a few hours later we were still not in our room (we arrived between 1:30/2:00) there is no reason that we should be checking in our room at 5:30….. when check in was at 3. They offered us a room so we could check in quicker however said we would have to move out of it the next day (it was the same basic room.. does that even make sense?) at this point we already have a bad taste in our mouth so we chose to wait for our room because we did not want to move around or be told the next day our room still wasn’t ready. We did purchase the honeymoon package which stated it would have a bottle of something along with rose pedals, we did not have any of that. Instead we had a room with a door that did not even lock which was a huge hazard for us and super uncomfortable, when we went to complain they told us they had nothing available. the shower was broken and had a leak because when we used it and got out the entire floor was soaked, we had to use every towel we had. The “maids” came in and out about 7x a day which is just super annoying not to mention we were sleeping and at midnight got woken up by someone trying to get in our room. Completely unprofessional nor did we know who it was because they ran out when we woke up.. which leads me to think they were not coming here to clean our room... PS. WE HAD OUR DO NOT DISTURB SIGN ON THE DOOR. The food was terrible, our friends that met us there were sick the whole trip, the families we met there said the same thing. We were told all nonmotor water activities were included but when we went to use them they said we had to pay for lessons…what a rip off and false advertisement completely. Our apples agent Lenny was very rude and unfriendly. She didn’t help us with anything and when we asked for help she just sent us to the front desk which didn’t speak English. We were told that we would have access to every pool yet when we went to one we got embarrassed in front of everyone and kicked out because we did not have the proper badge. The AC went in and out throughout the night which kept us up majority of the night because it was so hot we couldn’t sleep. When we arrived the bed sheets already had sand all over the bed and it was not from us. Overall the resort looked like a nice place but everything in it was terrible. We did not get to enjoy our trip and constantly got harassed by “vendors” selling their stuff.. AT THE POOL.. I could not even close my eyes without getting bothered to ask if I needed my hair braided which goes back to our safety.. they were not employees of the hotel and had just as much access as we did. This was a terrible trip and I would never return back. ** we have contacted apples vacation and have yet tot hear back. please stay far away from this place.
