Could be a good hotel

Stayed here for 10 days over Easter and thought the hotel was ok but with some staff improvements this could be a great place. Travelled here with Virgin Holidays from the Uk and should have been in a family room in the Lite building but the rep puts everyone in the main grand oasis section instead, which is better. Room is ok, clean and on ground floor with a nice terrace to sit out on overlooking gardens. All virgin holidays guests get free use of room safe and wifi as well. The food in the buffet is good quality and a reasonable amount of choice. All the other restaurants are good but can be very slow if you go at a busy time (up to 1.5 hours wait for food). The Bites restaurant at oasis lite seems to be under used by guests so is easy to get a table at and they do great steaks! The staff in all the restaurants work very hard to clear tables and get drinks but they are massively under staffed, more waiters in all restaurants would make a big improvement to the resort. Going to the buffet at a busy time could mean up to a 30 minute wait for a table due to staff not having the time to clear tables and reset them (we could see plenty of empty tables waiting to be cleared). The pool bars are supposed to be open from 10am-5pm but were rarely open before 10.30 and always closed exactly on time. It would be good for the pool bars to stay open until 6pm as they do in most other resorts as there is always people wanting to still be served. Also during the day the single member of staff at each bar would disappear for a while to do other jobs, at one point we could see him painting the walls in a store room behind the bar! The kids pool bar was particularly badly staffed as it could be unmanned for an hour before the bar man returned for 10 minutes and then disappeared again for another hour or two! This is unacceptable. The Havana Cigar Bar seems to be a complete waste of space as I never saw anyone in there apart from one or two members of staff watching the football. This should be changed in to a general lobby bar for all guests to use and provide another space to sit and have a quiet drink in the evening. If the staffing levels were increased so there was not the long waits at all the restaurants then i would happily return as it is a great little hotel, but until this is done I would not return.

Feeling understaffed. Spend too much time on line ups for food.

My friends, three of us stayed at Grand Oasis from Apr 9-16. Our room is on ground level and is near to most of the places which is good. Room is clean and air conditioning is comfortable with the bathroom a little run down, beds are comfortable with lots of pillows. Bathroom has half glass shower panel, so it is always with wet floor. No free wifi in the resort area not even in the public area and that is very inconvenient. Food is quite good on the whole but the service was very slow. Specialties restaurants open for dinner at 6pm, you need to line up at least before 5:30pm before you can get a reservation on that night, and no advance reservations for other days. One restaurant call White Fox is ridiculous with only 7 tables every night. You need to make resrv. with the conceirge in the morning at 9am. People line up as early as 8am and wait for an hour. I was there one morning at 8:30, 8 to 10 people in front of me and a dozen behind. The lady at the desk knew very well they can only do 7 bookings everyday, why can't she said something to the other people on the line don't need to waste time if you are not the first seven or ten in line? Entertainments are good, and the activities personnel, Misael, Spike & Moises are always trying their best to entertain their customer. The grand pool was closed for a couple of times during our stay, so people has to squeeze in to the kids pool area or to the beach. I will say this resort is better for families with kids. Although understaffed, staffs are very friendly and always smiling. Hope they will improve their service in the future to attract us to go again! Note: Hotel room has safe but not free. Not electronic and only use a key to open.

Poor service and money was stolen out of safe

We booked this hotel for our Family vacation, 15 of us went hoping for a wonderful family vacation. I felt the hotel was nice with great pool area with many activities for our kids, and the food was pretty good. However, the service was pretty bad, it took forever to get drinks or food by the pools, and the beach was loaded with smelly seaweed. Most of the other hotels clean theirs up daily, but here they only have people out there every few days so it piles up to where u can’t even get to the water and begins to smell. It was clear that the hotel is understaffed and/or in financial distress. Even with all of that I wasn’t going to complain until the last night of our trip when my sister-in-law went back to her room after dinner and found 3 security guards in her room near her safe. When they saw her they ran out. After checking the safe she discovered that her code was reset and $150 was stolen. Of course we contacted to hotel management but nothing was done. They said they could see that the room was entered at such time, but they didn’t have cameras so we couldn’t prove anything. The security can freely get their hands on the device that can get into any of the safes to open them without any monitoring of this device or cameras. So Please don’t trust that your stuff is safe in this hotel.

We arrived on April 5th and stayed until April 12th/ 2018. DO YOUR RESEARCH! Apparently there are 3 "grades" of hotels on the property. The Sian Kaan (really nice hotel and full access to everything) The Oasis (middle of the road) and The Oasis Lite (same). SUNWING never mentions this. So we were in The Oasis. Rooms are okay, as we use them for sleep and to get changed and never see them otherwise. The layout of the restaurants, buffet, are all very close but also require standing in a line everyday to eat, the Dos Lunas is open from 11pm to 5am but only has Raul who really needs some other staff to help him as the poor kid ran his *ss off with tables of us party goers. Noeli in Coffee and Me ALWAYS has a smile on her face EVERYDAY and makes AMAZING java drinks!! This place is in paradise and needs some small improvements...more staff for less lines (the food was very good btw). The biggest downsides were the 2 days BOTH pools were closed because kids pooped in both. Akeru bar needs more glasses to accommodate being the only bar open at night. The shows in the theatre were THE BEST I HAVE SEEN other than Xcaret! Unfortunately our last night, during the "fire show" a bunch of us, including children, were sprayed with kerosene due to the wind. The staff apologized and moved people back. If you are going to this resort, book the Sian Kaan hotel, be prepared for a lineup or two, and expect to meet amazing people from all over the world! We all have our own expectations on a "great vacation" and everyone has different standards, with a little bit more staff and training, and PROPER ADVERTISING the "Grand" Oasis Tulum can be that. Cheers!

We were there last week April 5-12/18. Travelled with my husband & kids. I can over look a lot but it’s a lot of small things. There was no 24 snack bar, you had to get dress & sit in eat. This is a pain when kids just want fries by the pool. Pool- 1 main pool - 1 kid pool and then a condo pool which we were rudely told by a condo tents that we are not welcome in that pool. We were never told we couldnt use the condo pool. So leaves 2 pools. The main pool bar was supposed to open at 10am but never did before 11 and closed before 5pm. Vacationers were told by staff your on vacation relax if we are late. You couldn’t get drinks other than the beach bar, that’s also an inconvenience when someone poops in the main pool 3 days in a row and the pool was closed. There wasn’t enough staff for restaurants or serving drinks you always had to wait. We asked for some extra beer in our mini fridge and we were told no.... but it’s all included? We had to pay for a safe & wifi. No balcony either. The pictures of the resort are actually the adult resort which you are not allowed access too. There was always seaweed & not enough seats by the pool or beach. The rooms are clean and quick service. Staff is friendly. But wouldn’t stay there again.
