The hotel is located on the water. The location is beautiful. The rooms look and smell clean. I found my room to be quiet. Staff is helpful. Nice spacious gym with a view. Restaurant is great for breakfast. Parking is available for free, but sometimes it is hard to find a spot especially at night. Overall, I had a fantastic experience. I would stay here again if I am in Hilo. No doubt about it.

Overall good, but they have some things to work on.

As you have by now read, this property has recently joined Hilton and recently completed renovations. I would say they are still working out some of the kinks from the re-branding and remodel. Also the restaurant Hula Hula appears to be leased out, and though visually very appealing and with an interesting menu, management needs to be more present and provide more training and support to improve execution of the food and service. Dinner tasted quite average and every single person who brought food to the table had to ask which diner it belonged to; breakfast from the menu was really quite good and the buffet looked good too; burger at lunch good but older female daytime bartender barely capable of making a drink at all; nice high end liquor selections and interesting wine list; emphasis on fresh locally sourced ingredients. There are a few basic truths here - there really aren't any other options in Hilo for an actual resort hotel; it is entirely remodeled which is always nice; the location is convenient to the airport and to sites on this side of the island; its situation on the point of the harbor makes for calm waters and very pretty views; it is a Doubletree so it is limited service by design not a full blown resort but they do have rental kayaks and SUP, a tour company located on site, a nice gift shop and a basic golf course; and the room rates seemed fair. I liked the modern style of the decor and the open air lobby and lounge area, the artwork is pretty, they had live music in the lobby bar and the main restaurant many times during our stay; natural setting is relaxing and scenic; staff was friendly and at least willing to help if not overly competent and able to do so. I am a Diamond member, and while they weren't exactly effusive they did at least put me in a room with a lanai and good view in the Mauna Lea wing. Frankly on the Big Island the major chains are not that plentiful so I was just happy to be able to earn some points. Nearby restaurant Hilo Bay Club is truly excellent, the park and Coconut Island just down the street is a pleasant morning walk, and downtown Hilo just a few minute's drive away offers a good selection of shops, restaurants, art murals, market and history for a day or two of walking around. Overall I would recommend this property over others we saw in the area, and recommend spending a few days based in Hilo.

Yes, there are very few secret places like Hilo, a laid back town in the Hawaiian Islands. We’ve been staying at the Naniloa thru thick and thin over 25 years. This is our special hideout and our Mecca for select Asian and Hawaiian food. Time took it’s toll on this place. We saw it at it’s declining best and also into bankruptcy. Finally, Hilton saved this jewel. And, as someone said, it remains a work in progress. It’s impressive to see the improvements from revamped parking areas to more revitalized rooms. There used to be only a few. What’s also nice is that the reasonably priced product is drawing new, younger clientele to savor marvelous Hilo Bay and the quaint city of Hilo. Hats off to management. Foods pretty interesting too. Maybe we’re just the Choir.

Great restful place after long flight!

After a long flight, this was the quick and easy place to get to from the airport, and enjoy of first few days in Hawaii. Very clean, updated, and well maintained property that I feel happy to recommend.

Don’t book if you’re a Diamond Member of Hilton.

I’ve spent MONTHS of my life spending time at Hiltons around the country for work. After working all year, I took a much needed vacation. Don’t expect to be treated as a Diamond member. The breakfast sucks, and the only person who made my stay better was Sandie.
