This hotel is renovated and looks modern. The room is very cozy, queen beds are actually double. There is safe and fridge and microwave in the room. The stay is nice and staff are friendly. The ocean view room offers nice view of Hilo Bay.

Love the view!

As a lifetime diamond member, the upgrade was a corner room with a spectacular view. Although, I had an upgrade better in the past, room 436 is still a great room!Food at the restaurant was awesome! Chicken dumplings must have...

Very Poor

A really disappointing stay with the highlight being the valet parking attendant who having parked the car then recommended a place to eat that turned out to be exceptionally good. It wasn’t the hotel! This hotel is well located with panoramic views of Hilo Bay but is rather basic on many levels and offers very poor value for money. For an area which claims to need to attract tourists (since the eruption of the volcano and closure of the national park) this hotel does nothing in my view to do this. The room was small and provided two reasonable comfortable beds but bizarrely 3 pillows on each. All the basics are there, fridge toilet, shower but they ignored the fact that there were 4 of us and provided 2 of everything. Indeed on arrival they had (kindly) offered a suite with a single king bed (which was generous) but had clearly not thought about how it would accommodate 4. The room was predominately white which gives the impression of cleanliness. It wasn’t however with mould in the bathroom and thick dirt on the windows. It was rather horrible. (See pictures) The room had a floor to ceiling window which provided an outstanding view or rather would have had, had it been clean! Breakfast was a meagre and expensive offering in the most basic of surroundings. A cracked concrete floor greeted you, the only thing that did.The voucher laughingly stated it did not included a gratuity. To have expected one to be paid was itself gratuitous! There was no service and I had to seek out someone twice, to get coffee and milk before I simply left. Continental breakfast included a small selection of cereal, melon and one other bowl of unpleasant looking papaya. Plain bagels, croissant and toast completed the poor line up for what was the single worst breakfast offering I had in the USA this trip. Indeed Holiday Inn Express offers more both in terms of quality and quantity. You can have more but that’s a further $11 a head and frankly $22 a head for breakfast here is laughable! Poor service extended to the pool where I headed after breakfast. Despite it being 9am there were no pool towels and the only solution was for me to tramp around the hotel to reception, stand in line behind those attempting to check out, and request a towel from them. The male pool attendant simply could not have cared less. These are of course, first world problems, and whilst I refuse to allow them to spoil my vacation I also think they should not spoil other people’s. At well over $220 a night you should reasonably expect far more than is offered here but alas, unless money is not a consideration the Hilton Doubletree won’t provide it. Indeed there is a very hollow promise plastered around the hotel which states let’s put things right. When leaving I was asked “how’s was your stay?” So I told them to which they replied. “We’ve emailed your invoice hope to see you again! “.

This hotel is directly on the ocean, beautiful. We were treated with delicious cookies and water. The newly renovated rooms are decorated with pictures of hula dancers. There is a great pool but no hot tub. We had a great view from our suite. 2 beds. Shower got warm, but never hot. Room service forgot to refill the coffee, but housekeeping was great and brought lots of extra when we called for more. Did not eat at the restaurant but our friends who live local say it is very good. It was close to so many delicious restaurants, walking distance to coconut beach. There was live music on multiple days that my daughter danced to. Overall worthwhile.

Quiet and good location (40min to volcano national park). Modern rooms with a big fridge and a microwave. They asked for 10$/day for valet park service. Because of that, my wife and me decided to park at the big parking-area on the opposite of the hotel. It was free of charge.
