One Night Stay No More Needed

Some people working here are very nice, others not so much. Here on business and had to drive to the other side of the island first thing in the morning to accounts. We were up early and went to breakfast at 6am in the hopes of hitting the road right away. Breakfast is supposed to open at 6am. They did not open til 6:30am. Just running late. No apologies or reasons given. Once inside took forever to get coffee, cream, etc. Wasted an hour. Also, diamond members don’t get the full breakfast, just continental which is only breads and cereals. 10 more for the warm items. Wish we would have hit the road and grabbed breakfast instead. Perhaps, the late breakfast isn’t a big deal if you are on vacation, but 30 minutes late is a big deal for a business as traveler. Also, Hilo is super rainy and not a good vacation spot. All in all I would not recommend staying here.

My boyfriend and I went to the both sides of the island. This hotel did a fabulous job making you feel right at home. The valet is very quick, efficient and friendly, rooms were very clean, the restaurant was good, the view was amazing. The kayaks and paddles board rentals were a plus. The store within the hotel has everything you'd need and the prices were very reasonable. Great time would definitely recommend!

Do not stay here!

The only staff that were helpful were the valet employees, which ironically were contractors and employees of another company. The hotel staff was not helpful - no one had any idea what was going on. I believe some of this stems from management. Here's a list of the many things that went wrong. 1) We arrived early around 10:30/11am. I know early check-in cannot always be honored and we had plans to do activities for most of the day anyways. I informed the front desk we'd be back around 2-3pm. The front desk representative stated she would call housekeeping and ask that they attend to our room shortly. That clearly never happened. When we got back around 3/315pm, the new front desk person said our room wasn't ready and housekeeping was in the room next to ours. (If they were in the room next to ours, they clearly could've cleaned ours first.) She said she "had no idea when it would be ready" and told me to keep checking back. A call to me, as a customer, would've been nice instead of me having to keep going back to the front desk to check in. 2) The air conditioner was LOUD. I live in a busy city and am used to noise, but this thing kept us up at night, waking us up each time it would turn on and off. Our room was not the only room with this. I overhead two other rooms complaining about this while waiting to check in - one person so much that they just moved to another hotel. 3) No iron or ironing board in the room. 4) I'm not sure housekeeping actually cleaned the room between nights. They took 2 towels, and did not replace them. There was still hair in the sink. 5) No one answers the phone. Whether it's the number listed on the hotel's website or any button on the hotel phone in the room. 6) To top things off, the restaurant in the hotel was closed to the public the second night we were there. The hotel gave NO notice to guests of this closure. There are little to no restaurants in walking distance from this hotel. When I asked the front desk person why the hotel did not give guests notice, she told me "well, even I didn't know that it was closed until I came here at 2pm." That is absurd. The hotel had been setting up for the event upon our arrival - there is no way an entire restaurant gets rented out to the public the day of. The front desk had no recommendations for restaurant nearby besides a fast food drive through. The hotel's solution for the closure was to put up a pizza food truck outside. Odd and unacceptable for a Hilton, one would assume. When I asked to speak to the manager, the front desk told me there was no manager there at the moment. Total lack of preparation and service at this hotel. I stayed at a Doubletree in Nashville, TN just a week prior. My stay at this hotel is the opposite. I will NEVER recommend this hotel to anyone. The only plus to this hotel is its location on the bay in Hilo.. besides the shipyard...

Worst DoubleTree Ever

Worst Double Tree ever!!!!For all Hilton Diamond members, be aware, this hotel doesn't live up to any of Hiltons standards. This is the first time I've ever given anything other then a positive review of any Hilton property I've stayed at but this place is such a dump I wished I had read reviews before staying there. Although the rooms seem to have been updated recently the hotel itself is dated. Clearly, most of the rooms used to have balconies at one time but now there's just a concrete slab of sorts with a window that doesn't open and the framing around the window is old. There is a two way mirror window in the shower that leaves one exposed to everyone in the living room if you don't close the curtain. There's also a strange bathtub in the middle of the room. The A/C units in our room worked less then half of our stay. They are extremely loud. So if you're a light sleep bring ear plugs. As for housekeeping service, it leaves a lot to be desired. Our second day of our stay our room wasn't cleaned. When I called the following afternoon to let them know that I was now going on 2 days of no service the woman with housekeeping didn't seem very moved by that information. Our room was eventually cleaned but not till 8pm at night. The carpet in the hallways is filthy, never vacuumed while we were there...7 days. Also, black trash bags full of dirty bedding and trash is routinely left in the hallways for hours. The service in the restaurant stinks! They were out of most of the wines on their wine list while we were there....7 days. The wait staff are friendly enough but the service is slow. Getting seated in the morning for breakfast can be quite an ordeal. You should plan to wait for a table as there aren't any clean ones available since no is cleaning said dirty tables. And lastly if your feeling like you should call and complain about issues with your stay don't call the front desk....they never answer! The only employees that clearly worked their tails off and were consistently friendly were the valet parking folks! They deserve a raise! Hilton should really reconsider having the "DoubleTree" name associated with this place!! Yuck!

I NEVER give bad reviews UNTIL NOW! I holiday very often overseas and now I see why Australia is far superior. We chose here because of its apparent proximity to the volcanos and shops. I get it....... why stay too close to the volcanos?..... they’re VOLCANOS! 1.5hrs away that’s a 3 hour round trip............But how about this place being close to anything! I put my thumbs down to its location. And let’s get onto the overall feel. NOT GREAT! Gotta say, the hostel staff in town would’ve got me the couple of spoons to eat my damn dessert with..... which I had to get at the sack’n’save coz the hotel closed the restaurant to paying patrons for a function.... some kinda staff rubbish! The waiter Andrew could’ve got himself a lesson in communication and customer relations. Someone’s gotta tell him to pretend at least to feel regret for what he cannot do. Seriously DRINKS MENU? “NO” Tequila Sunrise, “NO”. The reception staff could’ve even help with a simple request and kept saying yeah yeah and delivered NOTHING. I recommend this hotel to the drunk losers who love the sound of their own voice.! Highlights. Uber driver who pretended to know where he was going and taxi driver who gave me the first glimmer of hope for this joint......... I’ll let him know in a day that everyone else crapped all over it. Pictures.... why bother!
