Best service we’ve ever had!

In over 15 trips to Jamaica this was the best service we ever had. Christopher the lifeguard made sure we were happy every time we came out to the pool or used our swim out pool. Never had better service than Christopher provided in 15 trips to Jamaica. Cleon was our favorite bartender. He makes fantastic drinks and conversation. Teon and Anthony our butlers made sure we had everything we needed in the room. Delroy the bellman is such a great guy to be the first person you interact with. Anna at the Diamond club made us truly feel like VIP’s. She’s a real asset to the resort. The resort itself is immaculate. My wife and I were thoroughly impressed. They’ve done a wonderful job restoring the Grand Lido brand. Every employee we met, even the groundskeepers, security guards and painters, was friendly. Our housekeeper Beverly kept our room spotless and was a joy to talk with. Grand Lido/Hideaway/Royalton keep up the good work. Nicest resort in Negril, and we’ve tried quite a few.

Amazing until....

I stayed at the Grand Lido from Aug 31st to Sept 4th. When I arrived at the Royalton entrance, I didn’t realize my resort was completely hidden from the rest of the resort area. I had to walk from the Royalton to the Hideaway resort then be taken to the Grand Lido. After check-in, I was escorted to my room. When the door open, I was completely amazed at how it looked. I stood there with my mouth opened. All the staff were amazing, until my last night at the Grand Lido. I realized someone took $300 US out of my wallet. I have tried to resolve this with the hotel, however, I was advised that no findings were made. Well, I requested copies of these findings and received nothing. So, here I am writing a negative review for a hotel that’s simply breathtaking. I would love to come back but I need my $300 US. This is unfortunate and I’m disappointed. The person who took the money, skipped over my JAD (Jamaica Dollars) in an envelope for the US currency in my wallet because it has more value. Let’s just say this is utterly disrespectful to take from someone! Travelers please make sure your money stays on you at all times and do not trust their safe. The security agent ensured me that the safe cannot be unlocked without a code, however, let’s say your forgot the code, how would they be able to open it to retrieve your items? Lastly, I held off long as possible review this review. Hopefully someone will reach out to me and send me my money.

Wow. What a wonderful place. This must be one if not the most beautiful places we've ever been to. The personal was beyond our expectations. We were more then well taken care off. Our life guard Christopher was phenomenal, never meet someone with so much energy and charisma. This place felt like we were a part of a their family. Everyone working at the hotel was just spectacular. The hotel itself is so gorgeous, with the most beautiful sunsets and incredible views. We'll be definitely looking to stay here many more times. Highly recommend to anyone looking for the most relaxing getaway. Thak you all for making us feel incredibly special. One love to you all.

Honeymoon at Grand Lido

I will start off being 100% honest. We decided we wanted to stay at a Royalton in Jamaica after staying at Chic Punta Cana (royalton owned) and Hideaway at Royalton Riviera Cancun. Both resorts we absolutely loved and found them to be 5 stars. When planning our honeymoon, our intention was to stay in a swim out room in the Hideaway section. However, we had a death in the family and by the time we got back into planning the honeymoon all of the swim outs in the Hideaway section were booked. I was determined to have no children and a swim out room for our honeymoon so I booked the Grand Lido section after determining we would still be able to use the rest of the resort. I did not realize that there were extra perks to being Grand Lido so that was a nice surprise. For instance, we were diamond club so we got to use their lounge and were invited to their Jamaican dinner party and we also had our own private butler, Clinton. We wouldn't care to pay more for these perks, however it was a very nice touch! Our butler Clinton stocked my husband with 5 different bottles of alcohol so we could have drinks in our room, and drew up a nice romantic bath for us. Our check in went very smoothly, we were dropped off at the main entrance and were instantly greeted with a damp washcloth and a cocktail. Shortly after, a golf cart picked us and our luggage up to be driven to the Grand Lido entrance where we sat down and checked in. We had to initial a lot of paperwork to stay in the Grand Lido section (no photos allowed, no groping, must be nude, etc). The MUST be nude requirement was a shock to me as I was not planning on being nude, I simply booked this room because the rest were sold out. This rule was enforced in the main pool and hot tub but no one ever told us we HAD to be nude in our swim out pool - Thank God. I will say however, that despite being our first time in a nude resort it was not awkward and uncomfortable like we thought it could be - it was actually extremely private and we did loosen up and went in the main pool/hot tub. No complaints with our room, it was fully stocked with all of the necessities every day, our TV worked, our AC was a bit confusing to work but we figured it out, and it was very clean. We absolutely LOVED having the swim out pool, it was worth every penny! However, I will say for a few days of our vacation they did not have the swim out pools on so the pool got a bit buggy and gross. After we complained a couple of times, they finally fixed the issue and got them on. I believe we ate at every restaurant, and as always Royalton's food did not disappoint. Our favorite restaurants were Hunter, Dorado and Ocean Point. The view at Ocean Point was breath taking but I think that Hunter's steak was actually the best. I thought that Zen would have been one of my favorite restaurants after eating at Zen in Mexico, however it was a bit disappointing. They did not do a show, they kind of mass cooked everything and spread it out between two tables. I will say the wait times at all of the restaurants were all extremely long so it did get tiring just waiting patiently at the table, however the food was excellent. We loved the wings and poutine at the sports bar and we got ice cream at scoops café almost every day. The hotel grounds were nice and clean and no matter where you were it seemed like there was always a nice view of the ocean. The layout is pretty much one long strip so it does take time to get from one end to another but we didn’t mind burning the extra calories. As for entertainment, it was the usual – Michael Jackson show, dancing, etc. It was the Fourth of July during our stay and they did a little parade during the day and a cake at night but I was disappointed there were no fireworks or a party. For entertainment, we usually went to the sports bar at night and hung out with a fun bartender who did tricks. It seemed like all the bars were lacking some type of alcohol at one point – the biggest let down was the first couple of days having no pina colada or frozen daquiris at any of the bars! However, we made it work and enjoyed our drinks none the less. Overall, we loved Jamaica and had a great honeymoon. However, compared to the other Royalton resorts we have stayed at – this one wasn’t functioning quite as well. Our favorite remains Royalton Riviera Cancun.

Days of Lido past are gone. Pros: First, this is a fantastic property, period. - This paradise has been kept clean over the years - we've been to some that have not. I remember ambling along the same beach here on horseback from the stables maintained by a nearby hotel. Staff - most all customer facing people we met were polite, accommodating, efficient, and friendly in the resort at large. Room - Our swim out room with sunsets no extra charge - was SWEET - our view of island obscured by a tree in ground floor room - sour. The swim-out pools were very clean, life guard and delivery service with a smile by Christoper, Orlando, and Vince was great too, thanks guys!!! Ocean Point for sunset and dinner BRAVO! I would be amiss if I didn't mention the overnight security guard Lolita Ingram as well. We had, lively political discussion and advise on local beers in the very early morning. Thanks Lo! I never did find my old friend Delroy from days-gone-by although I inquired with many of his where about's. Most all the rooms have a great, I mean GREAT view of Bloody Bay and beyond. Rooms are modern not at all like the classic more traditional Grand Lido. It's clothing optional only at the far west end of the Royalton Negril Estate, overlooking Booby Caye. Fairly private and maybe great for noobies and hipsters, for salty seasoned old hippies not so much. Speaking of rooms, they are now modern and stylish. The beds were firm but VERY comfortable. Sound proofing was great and since they are sunset rooms you don't get blinding brightness beaming into your suite (like Cancun) first thing in the morning. Food - Most a la cart restaurants are quite far to walk and we found ourselves with room service choices and/or limited offerings off the GL grill mid-day at the Lido pool area, mostly chicken and pork, rice and peas and mixed veg. We avoided the burgers as we get those at home. The local fresh fruit is fantastic. There was always an abundant variety. Try everything, amazing flavors. Sour sop, figs, genips(Spanish Limes), passion fruit are a few we don't usually get at home. Papaya, mango and pineapple were also flavorful and fresh. Most of the fish we got was fresh too. Beef was tough at all we tried. The West Indies Calypso restaurant had tasty dishes. We enjoyed the rice and peas with coconut, grilled fish, and spring rolls among the highlights. I completely enjoyed espresso drinks in the coffee shop. A brisk walk first thing in the morning landed me at Coffee Cafe in lobby. It ruined blue mountain coffee for me. Cons: Staff - upsell/vacation club urchins abound - as with most resorts in this class. Grounds keeps, guards, and maintenance workers at times scowl, stare, make comments in patois. GL Beach = NONE AT ALL!! - there is a hole in the earth where the GL beach should be - we found ourselves at the far east end of Royalton property near the neighbouring resort to enjoy the beach daily. The adventurous may also like to enjoy the mostly private beach on the back side of Booby Caye too - check google maps. Room: missing robes, coffee pot, lounges on the swim out patio, slow to restock in room drinks without prompting. Food: Main dining area was more versatile and accommodating than other dinner spots ackee and salt fish available morning and noon daily. Menus seemed basic and redundant we got our fill of meats with Jerk sauce. Royalton will need to step up a notch to match or hopefully better the competing mega resorts, in the food and entertainment areas. I ordered lobster bisque at Dorado one evening and when it finally arrived, a single bare grilled shrimp in the center of otherwise empty bowl and some lukewarm consomme was then poured over it. No garnish, viola lobster bisque. Ambiance at GL seemed hollow from years past. "take the party with you" Our timing was always off when trying to connect and meet with provided butlers, housekeepers and other service requests. So many unsolicited phone calls - I vacation to AVOID answering the phone. Is it so hard to send housekeeping while we dine. Replenish the mini bar with requested items, and stock the room with standard amenities? Patio lounge chairs, robes and coffee makers that are standard fare at competing resorts didn't appear until requested, then it took days. Our fun-in-the-sun was interrupted by afternoon downpours each day, hustling for cover back to the room would have be greatly comforted by bathrobes to take the chill off. We tipped for most every request made, and many we didn't make, all with understanding tipping was not required. Maintenance and simple design issues abound, some mentioned in other reviews. A mega property is going to have some level of issues. Where do you draw the line? Some of the plaster/drywall crashed from the ceiling one day in Hunter Steak house. The lights constantly flickered and dimmed on the Hide-away side of the main buffet everyday. Our first day huge glass double doors at entrance of GL. Next day one of the 2 huge glass panels was completely missing never to return leaving GL lobby open air. The designer tub in the middle of the bathroom was always in the way. Swim out pool missing a few tiles from the bottom. Stone was crumbling on the stairs in the Hide Away lobby. There is also obvious sewage / waste water emitted near the nude Jacuzzi. Perhaps drainage was under repair but I saw no sign of that. Currently you are, Grand Lido in name only. Suggest: Fix the hole that should be the GL beach. Dredge it out and make a nude water park with slides, ladders, salt -water fountain , and a floating platform in the middle for lounging. Provide floats like the neighboring resort. Clean out some of the cave areas and grottoes to make natural cover. Add 10J Dragon Stout/ Red Stripe Light to bar menu - and Hedo classics like - calico jack rum punch, Purple Rain, Dirty Banana, Vodka slush, Ting. Last time I was at GL, I was drinking Pimms. "Pimm's Royale" would be grand touch on arrival, no? GL Grill - food add patties, yucca fries, grilled rock lobsters/fish with jerk on the GL pool grill. Ocean Point could also use a face lift, I've got great ideas for that too, for a return trip i'll share design choices and details. I can bring concept team and structural engineer. Ditch the massage/relaxation music at GL. and turn the Main Reggae Stage into a Tomorrowland Rave couple nights a week. Was that interpretative dance on Jamaica Night? Just no.
